Have you moved beyond CDs? Alpine designed the iDA-X303 digital media receiver to be the most intuitive solution for using an iPod in your car. The centrally located jog dial mimics the functions of an iPod's click wheel, so you can locate your favourite tunes in a hurry on the 2-line display. And Alpine's 24-bit digital-to-analog converter gives you excellent sound quality from your iPod.

Simple iPod navigation and control
Turn the jog dial a little to access Search mode, then scroll line-by-line. Turn and hold the knob to move to Alphabet Search mode — now you can scroll through the alphabet to jump quickly through your lists of artists, albums, or songs. The current song keeps playing, so you won't interrupt the music while you're searching. The convenient "Back" button lets you backtrack through the menus, instead of starting over from the top.

Play your other digital files, too
Throw your favourite MP3, WMA, and AAC files on a thumb drive, and you've got an easy way to stock up on tunes for your next road trip. Or you can also play another USB-equipped music player through the USB slot. No matter what your source, Alpine's built-in amp offers the punch you need to make your music sound great.

Flexible system-building options
This versatile stereo works with all of Alpine's peripheral gear, including satellite radio, auxiliary input adapter, add-on USB input, or CD changer. Add an HD Radio™ tuner, and you can "tag" songs you hear on an HD Radio broadcast for purchasing later in iTunes®. With Alpine's optional KCE-400BT Bluetooth® interface, you'll be able to answer or place a call with a touch of a button. You can also stream music from a music phone or Bluetooth-capable music player.

Setting up a system with external amplifiers or subwoofers? You'll love the three sets of preamp outputs, along with the ability to control the subwoofer's output level from the stereo. Add the combination of Alpine's PXA-H100 IMPRINT sound processor and the KTX-H100 tuning kit and you'll turn your vehicle into the perfect listening space — the IMPRINT measures your car's acoustics and adjusts the stereo's settings automatically to create a perfect audio environment.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Hands-on Research" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use this adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Alpine stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Alpine, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

March-03-11
Reviewer: Bovuk from Chicago
I bought this to replace a older Alpine reciever which had problems one of which the
satellite radio stopped working (could not select function).  Atter installation, i discovered
this radio did not work either which now leads me to believe the problem is with the
satellite reciever. Otherwise the radio is great and my wife loves that she can have her
Ipod hooked up inside the glove box.

Works great with iPhone 3G February-20-11
Reviewer: Tim from Portland, OR
I read a few reviews of people having problems with this deck working with their
iPhone 3G. To my experience, I have had no issues at all. It sounds great, and
is able to call up my music library quickly. Which is over 1,100 songs on my iPhone.

Unusable for large USB media January-31-11
Reviewer: feldmrob from PA
[The following criticism mostly just applies to USB media usage. IPod owners seem
much happier.]

Using USB & wanna hear a particular artist right when you hop in the car? Forget it.
There is no searching until banking is done. That's every time the power cycles, whether
you stopped overnight or just for gas. I could almost deal with that if searching would
then work, but odds are the song you are looking for isn't in the bank that was searched,
and changing banks starts the indexing process all over again. So you wait another 4
minutes, only to find out that you still haven't stumbled upon the correct bank -- try again.
Truly maddening, not to mention distracting and downright dangerous. I also suffer from
incomplete Indexing, as lots of my music never shows up in any bank, despite it being
properly tagged and playable when attached to my PC.

Just not enough LCD characters. How many artists named Steve something are in your
collection? They're all the same to the X303.

Take a look at a picture of this unit. Imagine it is in your dash, and you are grasping the
knob like you have to do in order to make a selection. Can you see the LCD? Nope. You
can turn the knob, or you can see what the knob is doing, but not both. If the road is
perfectly smooth you can try to "fingertip" it. Then if the sun is out all you'll see is the
reflection from the passenger window. Whoever designed this thing can't possibly have
tried to use it in an actual car.

New Stereo January-28-11
Reviewer: DavL from Ashburn, VA
The Stereo is nice. It has all of the features I need for my Iphone and the quality is great.
The only think i wish was that the docking was permanent. It's a hassel to remove the
stereo each time i get out of the car. The case is nice though! I like all of the features I
have including the automatic sync with my Iphone and switching between calls and
music. Really helpful. Overall a terrific addition to my Miata!

Mostly happy September-26-10
Reviewer: BRich from Atlanta, GA
Search options could be more user friendly for USB. Very slow to read large Flashdrives.
