I read the reviews of others with the understanding that I may have to do some modification. I received the kit and installed it with out a problem. This was installed on a 99.5 a4. You must remove the trim piece that goes around the headunit and heater controls. This kit will fit right behind that trim piece it does not clip onto the trim piece from the front.

Still Doesn't Fit |

Just to reiterate, this kit does not fit a 1999 Audi A4 (non-Bose) without modifications. Ended up removing all mounting tabs and using super glue to attach the now flat plastic trim piece to the back side of the console (large) trim plate. This required removing the large console trim plate, gluing kit plate to it, and reinstalling console plate. The result is actually nice looking and provides additional room (countersinkish) for the deck faceplate to fold down (motorized for cd load). Certainly not the 15 min kit install I was hoping for.

I have to agree with everyone else. It just doesn't fit my 2004 Audi TT Roadster. Based on the other reviews, I wonder exactly which Audi this thing is supposed to fit. Very frustrating. The only redeeming factor is that, since it was "free" with the purchase of the head unit (as part of an installation kit that included that included a wiring harness, antenna adapter and factory radio removal tool), I didn't have to pay extra for it. So, I paid what it was worth -- nothing.

Does Not Fit, has to be modified |

The faceplate is about 1/8" too large (on all sides) to fit the opening. It has to be filed down. When you file it down, you need to be careful not to damage the tabs the grab the faceplate in place. This is easier said than done. I did this with a dremel tool, and unfortunately, I slipped, scratching the face of it. I bought a second one from Crutchfield so I can try again.

Had to modify it |

I eventually got the faceplate to work pretty well in my 1998 A4, but only by filing and cutting. At first it seemed slightly too large for the opening, but I finally realized that it would fit if it could be recessed about 1/8". To get it to do that I had to file down a little bit the support flanges that protrude from the back. I also had to file a little bit of material from the top 1/2" or so of each side of the plate.
To make it fit with my radio (a Sony) I also had to cut away completely the larger of the 3 tabs that protrude from both the top and bottom, to keep it from buldging out. That turned out to be ok, though, because the other 2 smaller ones held it in place just fine.
