Keep your steering wheel audio controls

The ASWC-1 adapter from Axxess allows you to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to almost any brand of aftermarket stereo, including Alpine, Clarion, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony, and more. (Note: your new stereo must have a 3.5mm steering wheel control or wired remote control input.)

Installation is a straightforward process. You usually have to connect a few wires to your factory wiring. In most cases, the adapter automatically recognizes the vehicle it's been connected to. If not, you can manually program the adapter for your vehicle by following a step-by-step process with LED confirmation. Once connected, the adapter's memory retains its programming even if battery power is interrupted. A USB slot allows you keep the ASWC-1 current when updates become available. Warranty: 1 year.

Installation Note: This adapter will not retain your vehicle's factory Bluetooth functionality. Please identify your vehicle or call an Advisor at 1-800-297-9469 to see if the ASWC-1 adapter is compatible with your vehicle.

Wiring Advisory: You'll usually have to tap or splice into one to three wires in your vehicle at the radio location to connect this interface. If you're using a Metra Axxess OEM integration adapter to connect your new car stereo to your vehicle, then it most likely will have a prewired connector for this Axxess ASWC-1 adapter. In these cases, no additional wiring in required. Axxess does provide custom wiring instructions for all confirmed compatible vehicles on their website.

Instructions are not as clear as they could be, but that is where Crutchfield Help line comes in.  They were awesome and now it works perfectly.  I Highly recommend updating the device as soon as you get it.  Mine was a few revisions behind.  I do not think it would have affected my installation, but if you have a newer car it will.

Love it! It was a little tricky on the wiring for me, but that was because I didn't read everything before connecting the wires. For my vehicle, and the stereo I bought, there were a few "if your wiring has this then hook this this color wire to that...". Took me a bit to get it, but when I finally got through it, It works perfectly. All my controls work as they should, and it's reprogammable if I decide to change my current mute button to the call button for the hands free calling that the stereo I bought has.

This works with my 2005 Honda S2000's controls, except for the mute button. I'm not sure why, although it is indicated in the instructions. The new radio (a Kenwood) has a mute wire, so at some point I'll figure out how to connect it to the mute button directly. Oddly, the car's service manual has a schematic of the wiring harness for the factory radio and the pin called "mute" seems to be connected differently from what is indicated in the Axxess instructions.

This car's controls are limited to just volume up and down, mute, "next channel" and input select. There seems to be a delay between button presses and the stereo's recognition of them, and I suppose that's due to the processor in the ASWC-1's box interpreting the button presses and generating the proper message to the radio.

Installation instructions are confusing, but the key thing to remember is that the manual linked to in the Crutchfield page for this thing is the one you want. I entered the car information into Axxess' web site and it kept giving me the same one-page note that came with the product.
