Description Crutchfield Hands-on Research Accessories

Dust off those vinyl records and put them back into your listening rotation with the DP-29F turntable from Denon. Even if your receiver or amp does not have a phono input, this versatile turntable will play through your system — you don't even need a phono adapter. The DP-29F includes a built-in phono preamp, so you can hook it up to your system through a standard analog connection. But if your receiver does have a phono input, and you'd prefer to use it, a small switch beneath the platter disengages the preamp.

The DP-29F features an automatic system that starts the music with a simple touch of a button. When the record is finished, the tonearm automatically returns to its original position. By eliminating the need to handle the tonearm manually, you dramatically minimize the chances of inadvertently scratching your records. There's also a manual lifter mechanism that allows you to place the needle on the record wherever you want, just in case you'd like to skip to a song in the middle of a side. And for solid, dependable playback, the DP-29F has been precision manufactured with rigid diecast aluminum for perfectly stable turntable rotation.

Listening to Records Again May-22-13
Reviewer: L. P from Hickory, NC
The Denon DP-29F is exactly what I was looking for to listen to a stack of records I saved from the 60's and 70's. It is very easy to set up and operate. Although it is very light weight, it works very well. I purchased it after my 32 year old turn table died. May not meet the needs of someone looking for studio quality.

Get the DP-300F...AVOID this toy... December-10-12
Reviewer: Amalgaman from Pound, Va.
This item may be alright for kids from 8-12. After that, they deserve better. I paid for a used DP-29.  First, my experience in Hi-Fi:

I began putting my first decent system together in 1977. I bought a BIC 940, then a Kenwood amp and AR-18 speakers, later a cassette deck. I began to collect, sell and thoroughly enjoy speakers from the AR's to Bolivar's, Technics, Micro-Acoustics, KLH's, Pioneers and as many amps and tape machines, tuners , CD, SACD, DVD-Audio and on to Japanese consumer heaven...

After receiving my Ebay "prize" I gave it a look over. I thought,"NO way I would put good vinyl on this...who knows what kind of stylus it has? How much weigh does it track with? If I want to change cartridges do I really need epoxy, a hack-saw and two pennies taped to the head shell for weight? I threw it away.

It came time a year and a half later to get a real but inexpensive turntable. It HAD to be automatic as I am prone to falling asleep and finding the record in the lead out groove...for hours. The controls are on mthe outside of the dust-cover where they should be.

The DP-29 is built on the same design pattern as the cheapest asian offerings. Do yourself a favor and get a 300. It is as if two different companies designed and built them but although the DP-300 F is a step-up dollar-wise it is a real turntable, the other, a toy...the tonearm is just awful, the flutter is a problem as are the "little feet". Good for a classroom...maybe.

Denon DP29F October-26-12
Reviewer: Jennifer from Hilo, Hawaii
The set up is easy. Unfortunately I didnt open the box or set it up for nearly a year after buying it. It was a Christmas gift and we just didn't get around to bringing the boxes of LP's out of storage, or creating a good set up area soon enough.   I know Crutchfield would have taken it back, it isn't their fault.  My advice is set it up and use it right away to hear how your music sounds.  I'm not sure  if it is the cartridge- I see other reviewers mention issues with the sound because of the cartridge. In our case it actually plays the albums at a slightly higher speed. There is no adjustment for turntable speed on this model. I contrasted the playback to the artists website versions, or my purchased cd versions and indeed the sound is way off. One reviewer improved the sound by turning off a preamp on the model, which I couldn't locate or don't have. Another another reviewer said theirs played 78's well. Our model has speed adjustment for 45 and 33-1/3.  Ours was bought a couple years ago. Sadly, I wouldnt even feel good giving it to Salvation Army.

Did not work October-02-12
Reviewer: Ron V from Frisco, TX
I was recommended this product  to give to my son for his 20th birthday at college.  The first unit did not work and as the stylus arm and motor would not activate.  A second unit was shipped and this unit had a humming noise when playing records.  It was hooked up to two different amps with the same result.  He is on his third try to get a unit to work for him and we have our fingers crossed that this one does the job.   Denon should probably stay with making surround sound systems

Denon-29F Belt-drive turntable September-07-12
Reviewer: Mike G from Mendota, IL
Although I just recently purchased this item, I am confident that it will be just what I needed. It runs very smoothly and plays both LP and 45rpm records without any problems. The average customer reviews give it an academic grade of "B," which implies that very few complaints have been registered  against the turntable. Doubtless, I would need to spend a lot more money for one the received an "A." rating. As the leading comsumer magazine would say it's a "Best Buy."
