I have had this unit for a little over a year now, and it was very easy to install in my 2004 Mitsubishi Galant. I used the navigation to get from Fairbanks, AK to Des Moines, IA. Watching movies is great with DVD or iPod. Overall, this unit is great, but I experienced a "Mech Err" after the first week, and could not retrieve the DVD out of the unit. As mentioned above, mailing the unit for repair was a poor and only option. Kenwood should send a new unit so you don't have to wait a month to get yours back.

The product is everything that was advertised. At first it was a little frustrating getting used to the slow boot up times, and learning to navigate throught the differnt screens. After the learning curve, I really love it. While support at Garmin is adequate, it could use a little more info on the Kenwood units, such as uploads, etc.
All in all a great unit, easy to install, looks great in my 2004 Explorer, sounds great and I would heartily recommend it to anyone.

GPS screen goes Blank ! |

I am reviewing my second Kenwood that I purchased because of a problem with my first. With my first Kenwood aftera first few months my GPS screen went blank and the only solution customer servive offered was to mail it in so I just didn't use the GPS. After a few years I decided instead if paying the hundreds to repair my defective Kenwood (since it is now over 1yr old) I would get a new system. Since all the cables had been set up for the Kenwood the installer said it would easy and cheep to install another Kenwood.
So with fear and trepidation I went for it and guess what? The GPS screen goes blank. This has happen 4 or 5 times (month one) and the only good news is that it does come back on once the car is turned off and back on.
I do like this system over the last as it is easier to function. The sound quality is great the Ipod feature is great the GPS (when working) is the best.
I was hoping I had a lemon with my first Kenwood but it seams there is must be some issue with the GPS locking up.
I can't give an expensive product like this a good rating when it is not 100% out of the box.
When you have these units installed it is not cheep and to pull them out and send then in for service is a huge deal and not a good option.

Other users have commented on boot up. Trust me, its SLOW. If gettting in your car and waiting almost 60 seconds to either jam or put in your destination into the NAV this unit will frustrate you. Outside of that the unit works great and is very responsive once its up and running - GPS is spot on and I dont even have the antenna mounted outside. It is on the dash of my F150. The ipod controls are great but dont remove your ipod and put it back in while the unit is on. Nothing happens to the unit, it just freezes your ipod. Some of the rural addresses cannot be located in the GPS unless you know how the GPS names the street or road. Playback of all audio is awesome. DVD and IPOD movie playback is crystal clear. The unit has plenty of power for my door speakers and the flexibility allows you to tune the crap out of your system. Crutchfield support is Class A and with their help my truck sounds great. The few things I mentioned as negatives can be easily overlooked for the price and quality you will get with this Kenwood.

Good but the UI is disappointing |

Pro's; - iPod integration is excellent...easy and fast. - Audio and tuner section is very good with plenty of adjustments - Bluetooth and phone integration generally works ok but sometimes has a few bugs - GPS is "Garmin based" and can be updated but some of the functioning isn't as good as the Garmin GPS dash units - Nearly everything is adjustable so you can configure it to suit your style Con's; - The biggest negative is the user interface can be very frustrating. Adjustments are buried in the menu system in places they shouldn't be. For example the volume for the GPS directions is in the "AV" submenu and not in the "audio control" area? I actually know people that could design a better UI than this unit has. - The user's manual is nearly worthless.....and 90 pages long.
Overall, I'd probably buy this unit again but it's certainly not perfect.
