I bought it as an open box, for a huge discount. Couldn't beat the price & the quality. 100 watts isn't really enough for me, but wasn't in the mood to spend more. It will do for now. I bought a 500 watt Sony surround receiver from Best Buy for dirt. The bells & whistles croaked in that within 3 yrs. Didn't need the Sony to be surround but couldn't beat the price. I have (2) other Onkyo Receivers & a surround that have given me trouble free operation since the mid 90's. A good product. I play music to the (ear splatting loading hammer) ! I recommend it! Long live rock-n-roll !! Dave

This review is based on the second one I received, as the first one was dead on arrival. I was hesitant about getting a second one and almost chose a Yamaha instead. This one powered up and works superbly so far. Two channel stereo is all that interest me, and this receiver has most of features that I want without being loaded down with clutter and useless features that I couldn't care less for. I don't care for the layout of, or the speaker wire connections, but they work fine. The unit while missing a loudness/bass boost feature for low volume bass enhancement produces excellent overall sound without one. I like the intelligent volume control settings. This feature allows you to adjust the pre amps gain for each individual source. It's my favorite feature of this unit so far. I have it driving a pair in Infinity 362's in a rather large room. I've added the Infinity PS 28 sub for a little low end enhancement, but the sound is surprisingly quite adequate without the powered sub. The remote leaves a little to be desired, but I bought this receiver for musical enjoyment, not the fancy remote. I'm still getting to know this receiver, and time will tell the rest. So far though, for the money spent, I'm pleased. I came here looking for, and expecting to purchase a Yamaha, but price still sells, and this one was on sale. This unit out performs the Sony unit it replaces by a wide margin, and was far fewer dollars than a comparably spec'ed Yamaha.
