Description Features Crutchfield Hands-on Research Accessories

For great stereo sound at a remarkably down-to-earth price, check out this versatile receiver from Onkyo. The TX-8555 boasts 100 watts per channel of clean, high-current power to deliver a powerful sonic punch that's sure to satisfy. You can also get your iPod® into the mix using an optional dock, or add XM and SIRIUS Satellite Radio to your listening choices.

Rock-solid Onkyo construction
The '8555 owes its impressive sound quality to Onkyo's renowned low-impedance amplifier design. Its oversized, shielded transformer provides maximum power capacity and stability with minimum hum. An efficient heavy-duty extruded aluminum heat sink ensures cooler operation and longer life from your receiver. Plus the rigid, reinforced chassis and aluminum front panel fight performance-robbing vibration. These details all add up to breathtaking performance, and the ability to drive virtually any speaker system with ease.

Satellite radio ready and iPod® compatible
If you're a fan of XM Radio, you'll appreciate how easily you can add it to the '8555. Simply plug in an optional XM Mini-Tuner package and activate your XM subscription to tune in your favourite XM radio channels. Or, you can listen to SIRIUS Radio by adding a SiriusConnect™ home tuner kit. Plus, Onkyo's optional control dock lets you enjoy the music stored on your iPod® through your stereo system.

Hook-up flexibility and convenience
The '8555 provides plenty of inputs for your audio/video gear. Connect up to three audio source components (including a turntable), and up to four audio/video components (VCR, DVD, etc.). The TX-8555 even offers video switching for added convenience. Two-room/two-source capability means you can enjoy one audio or video source in your main room while a housemate listens to another source in a different room. (You'll need amplifiers or powered speakers for the second room.) Two sets of main speaker outputs let you connect an additional pair of speakers.

Satisfied August-09-11
Reviewer: Dave S from Gainesville FL
I bought it as an open box, for a huge discount. Couldn't beat the price & the quality. 100 watts isn't really enough for me, but wasn't in the mood to spend more. It will do for now. I bought a 500 watt  Sony surround receiver from Best Buy for dirt. The bells & whistles croaked in that within 3 yrs. Didn't need the Sony to be surround but couldn't beat the price. I have (2) other Onkyo Receivers & a surround  that have given me trouble free operation since the mid 90's.  A good product. I play music to the (ear splatting loading hammer) ! I recommend it! Long live rock-n-roll !! Dave

Onkyo TX 8555 June-16-11

This review is based on the second one I received, as the first one was dead  on arrival. I was hesitant about getting a second one and almost chose a  Yamaha instead. This one powered up and works superbly so far. Two channel  stereo is all that interest me, and this receiver has most of features that I want  without being loaded down with clutter and useless features that I couldn't care  less for. I don't care for the layout of, or the speaker wire connections, but they  work fine. The unit while missing a loudness/bass boost feature for low volume  bass enhancement produces excellent overall sound without one. I like the  intelligent volume control settings. This feature allows you to adjust the pre  amps gain for each individual source. It's my favorite feature of this unit so far. I  have it driving a pair in Infinity 362's in a rather large room. I've added the Infinity  PS 28 sub for a little low end enhancement, but the sound is surprisingly quite  adequate without the powered sub. The remote leaves a little to be desired, but  I bought this receiver for musical enjoyment, not the fancy remote. I'm still  getting to know this receiver, and time will tell the rest. So far though, for the  money spent, I'm pleased. I came here looking for, and expecting to purchase a  Yamaha, but price still sells, and this one was on sale. This unit out performs  the Sony unit it replaces by a wide margin, and was far fewer dollars than a  comparably spec'ed Yamaha.
