If you have high-speed Internet service, Onkyo built the TX-NR708 with you in mind. Wouldn't you love to be able to listen to Internet Radio stations through your home theatre system? Well, now you can. You can also play music files stored on your computer—view track titles on your TV and select the tunes you want to hear using the receiver's remote.

The Onkyo TX-NR708 takes charge of your home theatre without breaking a sweat with 110 watts per channel and versatility to spare.This receiver features seven 3D-ready HDMI inputs, including one in the front for quick connection to a device like an HD camcorder. You will find six more inputs on the rear to cover all the latest HD gear with room to grow in the future. The 'NR708 can even connect to a wired home computer network so you can enjoy music from your PC or the Internet.

Flowing with digital music
Connect your iPod® or iPhone® easily through the front panel USB. The 'NR708 will charge your iPod, show you album art on your monitor and give you control using the receiver's remote. In addition to PC music and Internet Radio, you can add SIRIUS satellite radio. With so much programming available your hardest decision will be choosing what to listen to next.

Top-notch sound for any room
The 'NR708 includes Audyssey MultEQ™, a pretty amazing speaker calibration system. Using the included microphone, the receiver analyzes sound from six different listening positions, then automatically adjusts volume level, equalization, and delay settings for each of your speakers. You'll get clear, naturally seamless sound that's optimized for your room. Plus, Audyssey's Dynamic Volume mode eliminates those annoying spikes in volume that often accompany TV commercials, helping to keep your sound clear and steady,. You'll also find THX Select2 Plus certification with exclusive THX processing enhancements for convincingly theatre-like sound. Great sound and easy set up (especially with a quick call to Crutchfield tech
support).  I'm looking forward to exploring all the options it offers (e.g. internet radio
etc.) which I haven't had a chance to try yet.

The TX-NR708 receiver is a first-class foundation to a killer system I have been
waiting too long to build.  I was pleased that I bought this unit immediately.
Well, to be honest, I was panicking for the first half an hour, until I got used
to the volume control.  It is completely different than a volume control I am
used to with integrated amplifiers.  It's awesome now that I am used to it.  

I couldn't afford to get all the speakers for this receiver at once.  I bought
the sub-woofer and fronts first- all Klipsch Reference Series.  At this point I
was pretty happy.  The sound blew me away!  The Audyssey MultEQT is a pretty
amazing speaker calibration system.  I used it to calibrate my new 2.1 system
and then used it again recently, when I finally made the jump to 5.1.  It works
wonderfully and you don't need to be a genius to succeed in setting it up quick
& easy.

I was really happy with the Theater-Dimensional mode when I was still on 2.1.
It made it sound almost like surround!  If you plan on going with 2.1 for a
while like I did, this feature rocks.

Two weeks ago, I finally got the center and surrounds for my 5.1 system.  Again,
Klipsch Reference Series.  Holy Cannoli!  The LISTENING MODES are awesome!  What
fun!  Even listening to stereo sources, you swear that it's still surround the
way it completely envelopes you.

I am more than completely satisfied with this receiver.  I absolutely love it.

Loving my 708 March-04-11

I waited until I learned all the features before giving my review. I got it on
sale for $600 so it easily gets 5 stars. I can't comment on the power as I'm
using a separate amplifier ( I have 4 ohm speakers so I have to use an amplifier
) but the sound is amazing. The Audyssey sound features are very nice and the
auto set up is great but I also did additional manual sound settings to get it
just right. Love the GUI on screen menu options. I'm running a 5.2 system with
dual subwoofers. Very balanced and smooth sound. What I really love is the
internet radio streaming. So much music at your command. Onkyo is ahead of the
curve with their new receivers at a really great value.

 
DLNA Player lacks features March-01-11

Overall this is a great reciever.  

The only thing I am having issues with is using it as a DLNA Player. I have LOTS of music that is served up through a synology DLNA Server on my network.

Now I cannot be too negative about this as the reciever plays all the music...BUT... the interface to the music is nasty.  I know this is limited by the remote control outputing to a television screen instead of a monitor.  

Things that I dislike about the media player
 - No Search Function
 - Scrolling is painful..  only shows 10 files per screen..   With 5000+ music folder.. this is not workable..  this really needs to be a media library not a folder list..
- No screen saver.. So my 60 inch DLP burns if i want to see music info
- Unable to customize interface ( stock look, features )

I am tempted to go back to connected laptop but hoping that these features will come with later firmware upgrades.

Overall great product just a bit bummed as these were the features I was looking to use the most.  

Internet radio works great..  You can update your audio bookmarks on the reciever webpage.

Just be careful if your expecting to browse large DLNA music collections using the built in interface..

great up-grade from my h/k easy set up right out tof the box. nice clean sound not to
bright its a joy to use. very happy with this product so far. onkyo has made me like the
hobby of home theatre all over agian....
