This is my second Onkyo receiver. My older one still works well except for the remote volume control which is a pain during commercials, and I wanted to get a newer one with HDMI connections. The TX-SR508 has more features than I will ever use, but I really like the Audyssey 2EQ speaker set up and the Audyssey Dynamic Volume features. Everything else sems pretty automatic although the audio enthusiast can still set things manually using the overrides. This is a lot of receiver for the money, and it's too bad that Onkyo has discontinued it. Hopefully the new model will be a good. The Channel Master HDMI cable I also ordered at a good price seems to work well also. The service, communication, and follow-up from Crutchfield have been outstanding.

This unit was a breeze to set up and sounds great coupled with my polk audio equipment. If you are on a budget and just dipping into the world of home theater components like I was its the buy for you! Now that I have experienced this quality of sound there will never be a HTIB in my household again!

I have always wanted an Onkyo receiver but the $600+ price tag never made much sense. So for the past 20+ years I have been living in the "shelter" of the typical brands that dominate the market. My inability to use my newer HDMI products, and my past experience with Crutchfield was my driving force for my recent purchase of this "Beautiful" Onkyo Receiver! Not to mention this price tag. Crutchfield mailed this out IMMEDIATELY. I tracked the order like Santa on Christmas Day. Set up was simple. And the sound is amazing. I went from RCA plug to 4 HDMI connections. I can actually see carpet! The only semi- negative thing I have to say is that you need some patience to read and figure out all the things this receiver does! But the sound will knock your socks off. And I am still using 10+ year old speakers. Don't hesitate to buy this product or any product from Crutchfield!

I was originally looking at the 608 model, but saw that this one was identical except for having two fewer hdmi inputs and no video upconversion. I didn't care about either issue as I watch HD 95% of the time. The fact that it was 150 dollars less clinched it for me. I've been very satisfied with it so far. The Audyssey system made setup a breeze and it looks and sounds great. Does run a little warm, but not bad.
I have it paired up with the energy micro 5.1 system and it sounds very good to me. No lip sync issues so far. Plenty of different options for sound for those who like to tinker. You'd be hard pressed to find a 3d ready receiver with more features than this one for 249 dollars. Highly recommended.
