To install these in the Mazdaspeed 3, I had to make some 3/4 MDF adapters to convert the 5x7 opening to 6.5, and to space them out enough to clear the window.
The speakers themselves are very well made. The sound is much cleaner and they can take more power without distorting than stock. Some have complained that these offer little bass. the specs indicate these only go down to 70 Hz and I imagine you would need an amp if you want more bass. For my application they work perfectly.
Performs above its price tag.

I can see why these are a top rated product. After seeing the number of positive reviews, I took a chance on these. For the money, they sound great. I did have to buy an alpine power pack to give them a bit more juice. Once I did that, they performed above my expectations.

I recently installed a pair of Kicker ks 6 1/2 speakers in my civic and was shocked at how bad they sounded with an Alpine head unit. Today, I pulled them out and installed a pair of these Alpines and they are a lot more musical. I would have rated them 5 star but I feel that they may lack in the low end but sound great for mids and highs. I'm using a sub for lows so the bass output wasn't important to me. They are much better than the Kickers when powered from a head unit only which surprised me due to the Kickers higher spl.

Bought these a few weeks ago. I was able to listen to them at a local store and compared to all the others, the Alpines have smoother highs and tighter bass. They do need more power than many of the other brands but it's worth it. Definitely for those who prefer quality over quantity.
Great speakers for a good price
I have these speakers paired with an Alpine SPS 610c system in the front, powered by a 4 channel alpine amp. They sound great, can produce solid bass, with nice highs. The Crutchfield fitment guide said they would not fit in my 1999 Dodge Durango SLT, however, they fit perfectly.
