Description Features Crutchfield Hands-on Research Accessories

The 32" KDL-32S5100 is Sony's lowest-priced HDTV with full 1080p screen resolution. Compared to 720p screens, 1080p provides around twice the pixel count, for more detailed images. Whether you receive your high-def programs from over-the-air broadcasts, cable, or satellite TV, most HD shows use the 1080i format. To see all of the detail in those programs, you need 1080p.

For stunning pictures, you need high resolution and high contrast
For TV images that will wow you, look for models that combine high resolution and high picture contrast — they're equally important. Sony's Advanced Contrast Enhancer continuously monitors the video signal and automatically adjusts the TV's backlight levels to improve contrast without masking details in darker areas of the picture.

Plenty of inputs for your high-def sources
The KDL-32S5100's "jack pack" includes three HDMI connections to ensure maximum picture quality from top-notch sources like a Blu-ray player. Two HDMI inputs are located on the side of the TV for quick, easy hookup of an HD camcorder or video game console.

Sony The One And Only ? February-19-10
Reviewer: Mike from waterford michigan
Sony is not the one and only these days, i sold an old 32' 1080p to get this model, it had a contrast problem, anytime there was a picture on the screen where the background had a lot of white in it it would completly whiteout everything in the surrounding bright area. the sony does not have this problem but it does have a few other quirks, like popping sounds when i turn the blu ray player on or off, and an uneven look in the screen where you can see the backlights, its brighter in some areas of the screen than others, but it seems to be a problem only when i am using  the blu ray player so it may really be the blu ray player causing the strange effects, but it dosent seem to effect the picture that  is on the screen just the dark areas, whatever it may be sony needs to fire all the engineers and hire new ones unless the anomolies are on purpose. the tv seems excellent otherwise and was a good choice. because of the screwy quirks i only give 4 stars

Good Except for HDMI Problems May-15-09
Reviewer: Robert from Pulaski, VA
The TV is excellent as far as picture is concerned.  It works best for me if I turn off all the "enahancements" such as Advanced Contrast Enhancer and especially noise reduction.

The only gripe I have is with the HDMI interface.  It does not work with my Directv receivers.  Specifically the H20-100 and H21-200.  To be fair, the HDMI interface can be rather fussy.  I don't think it has been implemented well at all throughout the industry.
