Well, I was excited to set up my receiver, and things started out well... then it started to fail. All of a sudden, the picture cut out. I'm using all 3 HDMI inputs, and go to my TV via the single HDMI output. It started working again after a reset, but then failed again within minutes. If I leave the receiver on for 15 to 20 minutes, the picture will eventually return, as long as I don't switch inputs or resolutions on any of my devices. This thing feels cheap, acts cheap, and surprise of suprises... is cheap. I guess you get what you pay for. The kind Crutchfield guys though let me upgrade to the STR-DN1000 without any hassle. We'll see how that one goes. I'll review it after it's all configured and running. I can't wait to send this one back. This was a mistake.

This was a replacement for my 6.1 receiver that lasted about three years. I hope this one lasts longer. I have owned it for approximately 4 months now and have only one complaint about it that I will explain now = When I turn it on and off it makes loud clicks making me wonder just how long it will last (though seems to be normal since my other receiver /s did that). The surround seems to sound great even though I am using it as a 6.1 system. It is great to finally have more HDMI inputs as well as optical and coax. It runs hot, so you should not put it in a confined space. When I bought it, Crutchfield had it priced about $50.00 cheaper than other web sites and also offered free shipping! A great deal in my opinion!

This receiver will not compete with the high end stuff, but for the price it does audio and video HDMI switching, its easy to set up and sounds good. I am using this in my master bedroom and I could not be happier. Thanks Crutchfield

This is a decent receiver for not alot of money but I can't help but notice how the manufacturing quality has really declined over the years. There are no "switched" and "unswitched" outlets in the back of the unit which is a minor nuisance when trying to to have a "clean" set up with minimal cords showing. Also, there are "A" speakers in the front and no "B" speakers which is again minor. Overall it is still a great machine. The only downside was the incredibly poor instructions. They were extremely confusing and not at all intuitive. Luckily, I bought this from Crutchfield where service still means something.

This HT receiver is an excellent value in sound and video reproduction, and an excellent video switcher when using HDMI cables. I purchased the Sony STR-DH700 receiver (along with a Sony KDL-40XBR6 HDTV and a Sony Blu-ray player for my home theater bedroom system) and have avoided some of the compatibility problems others have seemed to encounter with multiple HDMI input devices from utilizing input devices and TVs from multiple manufacturers.
This inexpensive receiver offers setup for speaker configurations from only two front speakers to a full blown 7.1 surround system. I don't particularly care for the "processed" sounding surround field selections, but there are 3 movie surround field selections which sound natural as well as a "Sports" surround field selection which sounds great on sports events with the commentators' voices sounding natural and not like they are in an echo chamber. Commercials, however, do sound "processed" when using the processed "surround fields". But, you can choose not to use any of the "processed sounding" surround fields and use the auto detection of the natural sounding Dolby or DTS surround fields. This receiver's versatility also minimizes the back and forth between multiple remote controls also. Great price, great sound, no degradation in picture quality from the receiver's pass through of video from input of HDMI sources, and outstanding versatility in use.
