I got my new car stereo installed and one of the speakers didn't work. After taking everything completely apart, I found the problem was a backed-out terminal in the Crutchfield jumper harness.

Power & Amp by-pass..Great, Speaker adapter is ter |

I recently changed out the stock radio in a '94 Ford Explorer and used this harness collection to make the necessary connections. The amp by-pass cable worked perfectly, and the connector for power & accessory controls snapped into the Ford harness with ease. The speaker connector, however, was a 45 minute frustrating curse fest. The problem is weak and poor design of the the eight pin connector. The slightest pressure against the pin(s) sends the pin, with wire connected, straight out the back of the plug. The eight pins in the Crutchfield connector appeared to be in perfect alignment but time and time again 2 or more of the pins would not enter the Ford connector, and those pins would exit the back of the connector while the others would seat. The Ford connector was is perfect condition with no apparent blockages. I eventually got all pins to sync, but now they are so weak in the plastic housing, I have had to use electrical tape to keep them from falling out. Not the seamless professional installation that I anticipated. I will probably have to end up cutting and splicing directly into the Ford speaker harness because I am getting occassional distortion from one of the speakers already.

The amplifier bypass was great. The instructions were clear. The speaker and receiver adaptors should have been a simple matter. The instructions of these are not clear and left a lot to be desired. The instructions did not address the two additional wiring harnesses from the factory radio. That created another problem because two of the factory wiring harnesses are interchangeable.

If you are not colorblind, this harness collection is outstanding. If you're colorblind, GOOD LUCK! How about some RF- and RF+ type tab labels on all the wiring?? 67% of the male population is colorblind.

We have 2 1992 Lincoln Town Cars in our family. Both still had the original AM FM Cassette players in them. I switched to MP3. The 2 harnesses and instructions made the job easy. I was able to bypass the trunk amp in 60 seconds, and installed my stereo in 5 minutes. Crutchfields harness helped save me hours of time by not rerouting new wires from the doors and rear deck to the stereo. I was able to use all of the OEM Ford wiring. Way to go Crutchfields!! Their customer service adviser (Greg) was fantastic. I highly recommend this kit. Mark B. Somerset, NJ
