Description Crutchfield Hands-on Research

Got a portable music player? Then you probably know that a direct connection to your vehicle's radio will give you the best possible sound quality. The Precision Interface Electronics HON98-AUX adapter lets you convert the CD changer port on your Honda factory stereo into an auxiliary input, suitable for connecting an add-on satellite radio tuner, portable music player, or other audio source.

Just plug the 14-pin data connector on the adapter cable into the factory radio's changer port, connect your portable player to the adapter's RCA inputs, press "CD" on the radio, and go. This adapter uses the CD changer port — once connected, you can't use a changer with your factory radio. If you have a factory cassette player, you'll make the connection directly to that, rather than to the receiver. Warranty: 90 days.

Please enter your vehicle information or call a Sales Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if this adapter is compatible with your vehicle.

CD quality audio! December 16, 2009
Reviewer: Anonymous person from Charleston, WV
I bought this as an upgrade to an FM converter for my wife.  Had so many headaches
with the FM converter - static, always having to change the station, sub-par audio, etc.  I
installed this converter in less than an hour.  I used the Poly-Planar IC-3.5PM for a
factory-look installation.  What a differnece in sound! I did not use the ground cable
and have had no issues with noise.  Top notch product and service.  I would, though,
recommend purchasing the Pro.Fit Trim Panel Tool- I marred the dash a bit using a
screw driver to pop the dash trim off.

Should have bought this years ago November 19, 2009

Thanks to previous writers, especially regarding the need to ground unit if not using a
charger with it, using foam tape to place it on top of radio, and ordering the 2 male RCA
jacks into one 3.5m cable (which plugs into the MP3 headphone jack).  For some
reason, after I installed mine, the background light
bulbs for the digital clock, and the air conditioning control panel LCD both burned out
immediately.  I followed instructions carefully, and disconnected the car's battery during
the install.  Should this happen to you, the bulbs are actually easy to replace.  Each is
removed by using a phillips screwdriver on the small circular plastic disc on the rear of
each unit.  The clock is simple because there is only one, but the air conditioning unit
has about 6.  The one for the LCD screen is the only one with a black disk (the others are
all white).  It is the one immediately behind the bottom right corner of the LCD screen.
You'll need to go to your Honda dealer to get the bulbs.  Mine knew the part number for
the one for the clock, but not the AC unit, so I would suggest removing the old one and
taking in with you to make sure you get the correct  bulb (they're different).    4-stars for
not including needed cable and foam tape.

Skeptical at first, now I recommend this October 22, 2009

I was skeptical regarding the ease of installation and the quality of the product.  Seemed too good to be true, but I installed this in 15 mins while on vacation.  We used it whith an iPhone the whole drive home and now recommend this to everyone.   The instructions were clear and well documented for our Odyssey.

Great product, not-so-great install directions August 23, 2009
Reviewer: Anonymous person from Roswell, GA
I have never installed any car stereo equipment before I installed this aux converter in my 2004 Honda Pilot.  I had no problems taking out the factory radio (thanks Crutchfield), but the directions from the manufacturer gave no suggestions as to where to actually place this rather large converter box.  With a 10" cable there was no way to route it to the glove box.  I called Crutchfield but they could not suggest a location.  I almost gave up but then realized that the box could sit on top of the radio..just enough room. I then routed the RCA cable from the converter box through the glove box with easy access from the console so I could plug in and operate my iPod.  In the end the install took me a little over an hour with the calls and delays.  This setup works fine and the sound is GREAT!

Sirius Great Sound April 28, 2009
Reviewer: johnnycanada from Toronto, Ontario, Canada
I was running Sirius via a fm modulator and grew tired of the interference I was experiencing. My 2002 Honda Civic is not equiped with a aux in unfortunately. A friend helped me install the HON98-AUX and unfortunately I neglected to read the instructions closely enough and grounded the aux causing interference through my speakers. We tore my deck out for a second time and removed the ground and now it sounds superb! Remember when you are using a powered device (plugged into the cigarette lighter) do not ground the unit. I don't know how I lived without this product so long! Worth every penny!
