Product Research

Features

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Marine Certification: Polk speakers are marine certified, making them a good choice for boats in fresh water, convertibles, motorcycles, ATVs, and other applications where the speaker might get wet. Because they have coated steel baskets and the terminals and crossover components are not covered, we do not recommend using them in salt water environments.

Q
I plan to match these with the clarion m508 head unit. This unit only pushes 20 watts RMS power channel. I know these speakers would perform better at higher wattage, but would the lower wattage damage the speakers in any way?
matt  Mar 31, 2023
1 answer
A
Hi Matt, thanks for your question! I love those Polk speakers and you would get better performance if they had a little more power coming to them, but it won't damage the speakers by having them run off your Clarion. Feel free to give one of our Advisors a call at 1.800.324.9695 they'll be happy to go over your system with you!

Q
Will it fit my 2001 cadillac deville both front and back door speakers?
the shushe  Mar 24, 2023
1 answer
A
The DB 522 will fit both the front and rear door speaker locations. Keep in mind, however, that front door speakers are 2-ohm whereas these speakers are 4-ohm. If you're still using the factory amplifier to power your speakers, there is a good chance that using a 4-ohm speaker will result in lower volume levels from front speakers.

Q
I want to replace the factory speakers of my 2018 Kawasaki Vaquero motorcycle? Are these Polk DB522 speakers will fit my motorcycle?
ricardo  Jun 22, 2022
1 answer
A
Unfortunately we do not have a fitment guide for Kawasaki motorcycles so we cannot say for certain if those Polks would fit.

Q
22 Jetta S compatible?
zoso  Jun 14, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings ZoSo, and thanks for your question. The Polk Audio DB 522 fit both the front and rear of your 2022 Jetta, however you will be needing adapter brackets to get them mounted in. Item number 142SAVW6 which we include free with your speaker purchase. On a side note, you will have to cut off the factory speaker wire plug and terminate them with a female quick slide. Polk Audio includes 12 inch speaker wires with those quick slides attached. We at this time, do not have speaker adapter harness's.

Q
Are these 100w rms per speaker or per pair?
chris  Jul 13, 2021
1 answer
A
Yep, the factory spec sheet says 100W continuous power handling, with 300W peak power handling. There isn't any "clarification" saying it's "for the pair" so I'd say you're good to go-100W RMS per channel.

What would be a good 5 channel amp to pair with these speakers?

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
Are these 2 ohms speakers?

Do these speakers eliminate the need for an amplifier?
ron  Oct 18, 2020

A
That depends how loud you like to listen to your music. But definitely will improve sound quality.

If I run 4 of these speakers what type of amp do i need? I will most likely add a sub later but that will have its own amp.

How much power you need depends on personal factors. I am NOT into loosing the last of my hearing, so 40W per channel is just fine for me. I do like an amp setup with dynamic headroom, so that transients come through cleanly, so a quality unit with a conservative estimate of 40W/ch.
cliff  Jul 12, 2020
A
Of course run a good sub, with its own amp, aimed into listening area (unless you like to rattle your car!). These speakers put out for their size but dominated by midrange
michael  Jul 12, 2020

I'd run a good 4 channel JL audio if it was me. I installed one for my two fronts, which are 6 inch plus tweeters, plus other two channels bridged to a JL 8 inch in back. But I have a van, the 5 inches are really for when I am camped and am borrowing energy from the solar panel, on other words for 2 speaker talk radio or mellow music.

Q
Hi, a bit confused. I have these speakers all 4 ohm..when matching up an amp..do I go by the 4ohm or 2 ohm wattage of the amp. Meaning these speakers are 100W ans 125W most of the amp I am looking at when runing 2ohm is pleanty of power but at 4ohm..much less than they can handle? Noob and confused :)

A
If you're running 4 ohm speakers, use the 4 ohm specs on the amp. Just because these are 100W speakers doesn't mean you need a 100W amp to drive them. It's better to have an underpowered amp since you'll be less likely to overdrive the speakers and fry them.
jeff  Jun 07, 2020
A
Your amp is capable of a 2 ohm load, but will drive these speakers at their rated 4 ohms. You may find that the speakers are actually less than 4 ohms, but the combined speakers and crossover total 4 ohms. Hope this helps. If you decide to add a second set in a parallel configuration with these, you would see a 2 ohm load. So, if you are looking to order an amp, go with the two ohm capable, and you will know you have the flexibility for later. I believe the rms on these is 125, and peak is 300, so you have enough at 125 w.
george  Jun 04, 2020
A
The speakers set the impedance value you should use when looking at amp power (the speakers "are" the impedance). So I'm this case you will be getting whatever RMS power value the amp states it will put out at 4ohm.

Q
Is the tweeter adjustable directionally? I put these in my Jeep and the tweeters are pointing slightly down. I tried to move them to point up but it feels like if I try any harder they will break. They don't seem to budge at all.

A
It is not adjustable, that I could see.
john  Jan 21, 2020
A
They're not directional there is just their logo on it that it's nice to have them both facing the same way

Q
I have a 2007 street Glide , Do these speakers need a special attachment to install in the Fairing ?
christopher  Mar 05, 2019
2 answers
A
Don't connect directly to the factory stereo. If you have an aftermarket deck they should sound great. Otherwise a 2 channel amp should give them good sound. Be careful though because I've blown 2 sets of these at around 75 watts rms.
victor  Oct 31, 2019
A
No; they will not need a special attachment. If you plan to connect to the original factory stereo, the 4 Ohm impedance may be an issue though. The receiver on my boat only puts out 40w per channel. Is this enough to power these speakers?
nicholas  Mar 06, 2018

not sure, but I think it would be ok
john  Mar 06, 2018

Yes. 40w will power this speaker. You may hear some distortion at higher volumes though without an amp.

what amp is best for the Polk DB22? I have a Jeep Wrangler 2006 and looking to get more sound in there. hard to hear radio when driving with top down.

I'm tempted to tell you to get a marine grade amp and speakers if you spend a significant amount of time with the top off. I made the mistake of not putting my top on and it poured. Probably dropped 3" of rain in under an hour. When I started my Jeep I fried the amp. Get 4 speakers with synthetic cones and surrounds and don't forget to replace the tweeters with something similar.

Hi Anthony, I can try to help you. I got the Polk speakers for my 1979 Jeep. I have no top, so the speakers are exposed to the weather. They have been through many storms and I have had NO problems! They have excellent sound quality. With no top, I have to crank the stereo way up and they put out great sound at high volume!! Hope this helps
