Apple CarPlay

CarPlay seamlessly integrates your iPhone® into the driving experience when you plug in via USB, giving you iPhone content with minimal distraction. Using touchscreen controls or voice commands, you'll enjoy easy access to your music library, audiobooks, phone, messages, navigation, and many third-party streaming music apps, too. If you use Apple's HomeKit app, you can even use Siri to control some of your home functionality, such as lighting and thermostats, while you're on the road. Learn more at www.apple.com/ios/carplay.

Android Auto

If you're an Android™ user, you'll love how Android Auto integrates the popular platform into the driving experience without distracting you from the job at hand — driving . And by incorporating Google Assistant™, you'll have easy voice access to Google Maps™, Waze®, weather, music, and apps, not to mention your text messages. And you can make calls, too, of course. Kenwood Excelon DDX6905 DVD receiver

With Android Auto, you get access to Waze and Google Assistant to help run your infotainment.

More phone fun with WebLink™

This Kenwood includes WebLink, which provides you simple in-dash control over select apps like YouTube® and Yelp®. What's especially nice is that WebLink works with both Android and iPhone. So load up the free WebLink for Kenwood app, plug in your phone, and you'll have quick access to some handy infotainment for your journey.

Wireless convenience for you and your passengers

Since yours is probably not the only phone used in your vehicle, the DDX6905S enables you to pair two Bluetooth-equipped phones and quickly switch between them for hands-free calling. And when you're streaming audio, Kenwood's Music Mix feature lets you pair five phones so everybody can pick their tunes for the ultimate road trip playlist.

A sharp display to run the show

This Kenwood plays video content in bright, clear detail when you're parked. When you're on the road, you can entertain your passengers by sending a movie from the receiver to a rear-seat screen. You can also plug in front- and rear-view cameras to play it safe in crowded parking lots. Kenwood also provides an electronic angle adjustment for the display, so you can tailor the screen's contrast for the best viewing in your vehicle's dash location — all without physically moving the display.

More music options

Got a high-res music library? You'll be stoked that this receiver supports high-res file playback of music stored on a USB drive. And if youlisten to Internet radio on your iPhone or Android, you'll really dig playing music from Pandora and Spotify on this receiver. If you're looking for radio stations that won't fade away as you leave the city limits, add a SiriusXM tuner (not included) to this Kenwood to enjoy satellite radio's deep programming from coast to coast. The DDX6905S also includes a sensitive AM/FM tuner to catch all your local stations too.

Making your music sound its best

For those who like to dial up their sound, Kenwood included a 13-band equalizer with a built-in digital signal processor. The DDX6905S also includes three pairs of 5-volt gold-plated RCA preamp outputs that provide an ultra-clean signal when it's time to add amplifiers to your system.

iDatalink Maestro lets you keep your factory extras

The DDX6905S offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included). In a wide selection of vehicles, this module lets you keep factory features that you'd otherwise lose when you install a new radio. You'll also be able to check out engine performance data and other vehicle info on the Kenwood's screen. Once you've identified your vehicle, you'll see the iDatalink module offered on the way to the Shopping Cart if it's compatible.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Android Auto: The Kenwood DDX6905S DVD receiver supports the Android Auto app for Android smartphones running OS Lollipop (5.0 or newer). Your compatible Android smartphone must be connected to the Kenwood receiver's "grey" USB port (not "black") using the included USB extension cable and USB cable that came with your smartphone, plus be paired via Bluetooth. Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for driving and automatically brings you useful information and organizes it into simple on-screen "card-style" pop-ups that appear just when they're needed. It's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road ahead. Features of Android Auto include:

    • Google Assistant: The Kenwood receiver enhances your Android Auto experience even more by incorporating Google Assistant using the head unit's external microphone and your car speakers for voice command and text-to-speech, which makes using Android Auto and all of its integrated applications fast, easy, and safe. You will need to press the "mic" button or say "OK Google" to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make a call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, or listen to music.
    • Google & Waze Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. Select your destination by using the head unit's touchscreen or just say where you want to go through the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You can even listen to music from your Android Auto device or other connected source device while using Google Maps. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
    • Phone & SMS: With Android Auto you get access to your contacts and messages through the Kenwood receiver while keeping your eyes on the road. Use the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology to make a phone call, or have your text-messages read aloud to you while you concentrate on the road ahead; you can even reply to texts via voice command.
    • Music: Access your Android smartphone's music library through the Kenwood receiver via Google Play Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen to select songs or just say what song you want to listen to through the head unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You also get access to online music and radio stations from Amazon Music, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, & Tune-In. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo.

    Notes:

    • Only one Android device with Android Auto can be connected at a time.
    • An Android Auto device and Apple CarPlay device cannot be connected at the same time.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Android Auto is being used with a connected Android smartphone.
    • Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable other than the one supplied.
    • If you need an additional USB extension cable, use Kenwood's CA-U1EX USB extension cable (113CAU1EX, sold separately); any other USB extension cable can cause Android Auto to malfunction.
    • Click here to learn more About Android Auto and to see what phones are compatible.

Apple CarPlay Compatible: Apple CarPlay is the smarter, safer in-vehicle interface to operate your iPhone (iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector. Your iPhone must be connected to the Kenwood receiver's "black" USB port (not "grey") via the included USB extension cable and the Lightning-cable that came with your Apple device or Kenwood's Lightning connector-to-USB cable (113KCIP103 sold separately). CarPlay features Siri voice control and is specially designed for driving scenarios. It also works with the Kenwood receiver's touchscreen controls. Use CarPlay to get directions, make phone calls, listen to voice mail, send/ receive messages and select music in a way that keeps you focused on the road ahead.

    • Apple Maps: The power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze (coming soon), you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have there own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone & Messages: You'll be able to make calls, return missed calls, and listen to voicemails through the Kenwood receiver. Siri can also help you do all these things. In addition, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages for you; so you never have to look at your iPhone while driving.
    • Music Library: Access your artists, song, playlists, and iTunes Radio on your iPhone using the Kenwood receiver's touchscreen. Or, just tell Siri what you'd like to listen to. The head unit's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background.
    • Apps: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, radio, sports, news, podcasts, & audiobooks. Control them from the head unit's touchscreen just like you would from your iPhone. Current supported apps include (fees may apply):

    Notes:

    • Only one Apple CarPlay device can be connected at a time. Must be connected to the "black" USB port (not "grey" USB port).
    • An Android Auto device and Apple CarPlay device cannot be connected at the same time.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • If you need an additional USB extension cable, use Kenwood's CA-U1EX USB extension cable (113CAU1EX, sold separately). Any other USB extension cable can cause CarPlay to malfunction.

WebLink (for iPhone & Android): Download the Kenwood WebLink app (for Apple iOS 9.0+ and Android OS 4.4+) and connect your compatible iPhone or Android smartphone via USB to access some of your favorite apps such as YouTube and Yelp through the Kenwood DDX6905S. Your iPhone must be connected to the receiver's "black" USB port (not "grey"). Your Android smartphone should be connected to "grey" USB port (not "black"). Using these apps through the large, clear touchscreen of the DDX6905S makes WebLink a safe and easy way to access popular navigation, media, weather apps while in your vehicle.

    • Yelp: Yelp uses automated software to recommend the most helpful and reliable reviews for the Yelp community among the millions submitted. The software looks at dozens of different signals, including various measures of quality, reliability, and activity on Yelp. Let Yelp help you find the best Restaurants, Hotels, Automotive Service Centers, Banks, Shopping Malls, and more. Search by Category, Favorites, Distance, Point on the Map, or Keyword. A keyword search requires that  your vehicle's parking brake be engaged.
    • OpenWeatherMap: Within WebLink is the OpenWeatherMap app, which gives you today's forecast and a four day outlook of the weather in your area.
    • YouTube: With WebLink, you can access YouTube and play videos on the Kenwood receiver's touchscreen monitor (your vehicle's parking brake will need to be engaged). You can select videos from a variety of categories or search by keyword(s).

NextRadio lets you experience local FM radio by showing album art, station logos, and song & program details in an engaging display. NextRadio's Newsfeed lets you stay current with your favorite stations by curating a personalized display of related content based on your listening preferences. View stations' tweets, artist info, hot songs, contests, upcoming concerts, emergency alerts and more
    • MediaPlayer (Audio Only): WebLink allows you to access your Apple iOS or Android devices stored music library for playback. From the DDX6905S's touchscreen, you can browse your phone's music library by Artist, Album, Genres, Playlist, or Songs. You can also search your music by typing in an artist's name or a song title (the vehicle's parking brake has to be engaged for this feature). In addition, you get playback controls such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, & Random/Repeat. The digital media receiver's screen will display song/artist/album information, along with album art.
    Notes:

If you need to control the WebLink app from your smartphone, you will have to disconnect your phone's cable from the Kenwood receiver.
    • The WebLink app app must be opened as the primary app on your phone. If you press the home button or go to access other apps on your phone, the WebLink apps will pause on the Kenwood receiver, until the WebLink app is the primary app again. WebLink will not work with these apps only running in the background.
    • Some apps within WebLink will require that your vehicle's parking brake be engaged to operate certain functions & features of the application.
    • You can only connect one iPhone or one Android smartphone (two devices cannot be connected at the same time).

iPod/iPhone Music Playback Only: If you don't desire Apple CarPlay or WebLink, you can also connect your Lightning-connector Apple iPod/iPhone to the DDX6905S for music playback & control only using Kenwood's Lightning connector-to-USB cable (113KCIP103 sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device. Simply plug your compatible Apple device into either of the receiver's rear-panel USB ports. The Kenwood receiver supports playback of stored music and music apps, along with control and charging, plus song/artist information and album art.

    • Head Unit Control: The Kenwood head unit allows you to navigation your iPod/iPhone's music library from its front-panel & touchscreen controls. The head unit offers unique search features like Category Search & Link Search, plus offers basic playback functions like Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track and Repeat/Random of your connected iPod/iPhone. You'll also still be able to control your connected iPod touch or iPhone from its own touchscreen so you can access other music applications.
      • Category Search: Category Search allows you to navigate your iPod/iPhone's music library by Playlist, Artists, Album, Song, Genre, Song, Podcast, Audiobook, or Radio. You can then search each of these categories using the head unit's touchscreen slider function (categories will be listed in alphabetical order).
      • Link Search: The head unit offers Link Search, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. • Drive EQ: The Drive EQ mode helps you hear your music over road noise. It boosts certain frequency ranges that become hard to hear due to road noise.

Music Enhancements: You can restore the sound lost due to audio compression, as well as enhance the sound by virtually manipulating the soundscape.

    • Realizer: When MP3, WMA, or AAC files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Realizer feature boosts low frequencies which can be lost during compression. Set to Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, or Off.
    • Supreme: When MP3, WMA, or AAC files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Supreme Setting function restores their high frequencies so the sound quality is closer to files encoded at a high bit rate. The processing is optimized for the compression format and the bit rate used. When the Supreme Setting is Off, the unit plays the original sound stored in the audio file.
    • Space Enhancer & Stage EQ: You can set the Space Enhancer to Small, Large, or Off. Each setting value indicates the soundscape level. You can also virtually raise the sound position heard from your speakers; the Stage EQ can be set to High, Middle, Low, or Off.

Note: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire (within harness) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display a blue screen and "Parking Off". The wireless remote controller operates off of two supplied "AAA" batteries. The remote operates off of IR transmission so the KNA-RCDV331 must be pointed at the front-panel of the Kenwood head unit within direct line of sight.
    • Remote S App: The Kenwood Remote S (for Apple iOS 9.0+ and Android OS 5.0+) is an application that will connect and control the in-dash receiver from your compatible Apple or Android device via Bluetooth, like a wireless remote control. You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

You do not need a separate tuner but you will have to get the install package that goes with your car. After you add the stereo to your cart you will be ask to pick the package that fits your needs.

I have a Galaxy J7 Prime and it works fine with Android Auto. However I really do not like Android Auto. It works and performs as advertised; but it essentially takes over you phone. You cannot minimize it and open another app. I wanted to open my browser and look up something on the internet, and Android Auto would not allow me to.

Aklen...first of all, i am not a "techy". I purchased the same Kenwood radio from Crutchfield. I told the. ExCtly what vehicle it would go in and received the radio and special direct connect wiring harness gor my 2007 GMC Serria 1500. I had it installed by a local vehical stereo business. It took approximately 2 hours. As far as an amp, i found the zmp in the Kenwood was more than adaquate to drive four 6 inch foor speakers and two tweeters on the dash. The dound is great. Do you need an amp? I would think mot. I brlieve you will be very pleased with the quality of sound. You can always add zn zmp if you would like to increase later.

I am not a "techy" but i ordered this radio from Crutchfield and told them exactly what it would be installed with (2007 GMC Serria 1500. I took the radio and wiring harness to a vehicle audio store for installation. It took about an hour and half. I did not purchase an amplifer. The radio amp is more thzn enough to drive great sound in two front door and two rear door speakers, in addition to 2 tweeters on the dash. The radio has great sou d seperation and adjustible bass and treble to suite your preference. I would use the radio eith the supplied amp and your speakers. These can be easily added after installation if you fefl you need them. My ferling is you will be very happy!

This radio should have enough wattage to power all 6 speakers in your vehicle. I installed it in a vehicle with 9 speakers and it sounds great. As for the overhead monitor it should but first you may want to investigate your vehicle to make sure that your monitor receives it's signal by a signal rca cable. If you look at the pictures Crutchfield provides on the radio listing there is a photo of the rear of the radio you will see 3 yellow rca jacks 2 are for cameras and 1 is for video output. Hope this helps. This is a great radio in my opinion I just bought a second on for my wife's car. Enjoy

I did not install an aftermarket amp in mine, The sound from this unit is great without. As for 6 speakers , I am not sure , my car had 4 with a factory sub. The dvd works great in the back also.

You shouldn't need an external amplifier since the head unit has a pretty good amplifier built in. If you have a factory premium (amplified) system, you may need an interface adapter. As for the factory overhead monitor, you will most likely need an adapter to go from the RCA type video connection to the vehicle's video feed to the overhead monitor.

The unit has a enough power to push all that I have in my Ford Excusion, so an amp isn't necessary. There are a/v ports in the rear that you might be able to use for your monitor, provides the connections are the same. The unit has rca posts.

Will this maintain factory steering wheel controls?

Yes it does keep the volume channel up and down and source. They are the only buttons that will operate head unit. The directional buttons do not do anything. On the old stereo they would operate the channels up and down as with the up and down channel button. It is a great head unit and easy to install. I know that's not your question. But I have all KENWOOD in all of my vehicles. They are easy to use and install.
