About the Crux CS-GM29 Wiring Interface

Bob Bihlmayer

Install a new radio and keep your factory features

The Crux CS-GM29 interface allows you to install an aftermarket radio in select 2006-up General Motors vehicles while retaining your warning chimes. The interface works in GM vehicles with or without a factory amplifier. If you're installing a Alpine, Boss, Blaupunkt, Clarion, Dual, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony or Soundstream car stereo, you'll retain the use of your steering wheel audio controls.

You'll only be able to retain your steering wheel audio controls with a compatible car stereo made by Alpine, Boss, Blaupunkt, Clarion, Dual, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony or Soundstream. No other brands are currently compatible.

The interface also offers the reverse, mute, and Vehicle Speed Sensor (V.S.S.) outputs that you'll need if you're installing a navigation receiver. The system also keeps the Retained Accessory Power feature and the factory subwoofer (if present). It includes the control module and vehicle and steering wheel control harnesses.

Product Research

Features

Radio Replacement Interface: The CRUX CS-GM29 is a radio replacement interface for select GM LAN 29-bit vehicles. It facilitates the integration of an aftermarket radio and enables retention of factory features when replacing a factory installed radio in select GM vehicles (with or without factory-installed amps). This interface is also pre-programmed for retention of steering wheel controls.

Note: This interface does not retain the vehicle's factory OnStar, if equipped.

Vehicle Compatibility: The CRUX CS-GM29 radio replacement interface works with the following GM LAN 29-bit vehicles.

Make Model Year
Buick Enclave 2008-2015

Notes:

  • *Not compatible with 2012-up SUVs/Trucks that are equipped with factory-installed navigation radios.
  • **Not compatible with Express & Savana vans that are powered by a diesel engine.

Amplified or Non-Amplified Systems: The CRUX CS-GM29 can be used in GM vehicles with or without a factory amplified system. It's compatible with Bose, non-Bose, and Y-91 audio systems.

+12V Accessory Output: In many GM vehicles, there is no 12-volt accessory wire in the factory harness, which requires the installer to run an accessory wire to the fuse box or underneath the steering column when installing an aftermarket radio. The CS-GM29 is designed to provide a 12V/3A switched accessory output (red wire).

Warning Chimes: The Crux CS-GM29 retains factory warning & safety chimes through the use of an on-board speaker. The volume of the chime speaker is adjustable through a potentiometer on the interface module.

Retained Accessory Power (R.A.P.): The ignition power source of most GM vehicles keeps the radio on until one of the doors is opened; this feature is lost when replacing the factory radio with an aftermarket head unit without the proper installation accessories. The CS-GM29 is designed to retain the R.A.P. feature and keep the radio powered after the key is off, until the driver door is opened or the OEM timer ends; whichever happens first.

Navigation Outputs: The CRUX CS-GM29 radio replacement interface module provides a VSS (vehicle speed sense) and a Reverse Gear output to make installing an aftermarket Navigation radio simpler and less time consuming.

Backup Camera Retention: The CS-GM29 allows you to retain your GM vehicle's backup camera through the included backup camera harness with male composite video connector. Your in-dash aftermarket stereo must have a composite video camera input and a built-in video monitor.

Steering Wheel Control Retention: The CRUX CS-GM29 also features a steering wheel control output for Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood, JVC, Jensen, Dual/Axxera, Boss and other aftermarket head units. The steering wheel control output consists of a right-angle 3.5mm connector and a light blue/yellow wire (use the connection that your aftermarket head unit is fitted with). The CS-GM29 interface module will work with any of the listed aftermarket head units, by setting its three dip-switches (see owner's manual for appropriate setting).

Note: The steering wheel control harness features two 4-pin connectors, two 3.5mm connectors, and one blue/yellow wire. You will only plug in one of the 4-pin connectors to the interface module and one of the 3.5mm connectors or blue/yellow wire into your aftermarket head unit you are installing (refer to owner's manual for which connection to use).

Q
Why will you not have steering wheel controls with a aftermarket no name double din radio if you use this harness?
michael  Apr 05, 2023
1 answer
A
This Crux CS-GM29 interface only has support for the radio brands listed below, Michael. Atoto, Dual, Fahrenheit, Jensen, Pioneer, Power Acoustik, Soundstream, Blaupunkt, Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood, JVC, Boss, Old Sony and New Sony, and SOME off brand radios. For Atoto, Blaupunkt, Dual, Farenheit, Power Acoustik, Soundstream, and most off-brand radios, check the aftermarket radio's manual to see if the SWC buttons need to be programmed. If you need that control on the steering wheel, it may be a good idea to upgrade to a name brand radio that supports control. We are always here to help to make sure you select gear that works properly together. I hope this helps!

Q
I installed this into a 2013 Silverado, my radio works fine, the GPS, Android Auto all work great, but when i use my phone, the only sound comes from the interface unit, which is buried behind the stereo, any idea what could be the problem? The stereo model is: CarPlay & Wireless Android Auto,Car Radio Touchscreen with Bluetooth,Live Rearview Camera,Type C Fast Charge,Airplay,USB/SWC/AUX,AM/FM Car Radio Brand: BOUWOIMA purchased from Amazon. Thank you for any help

A
This could be a few different issues, Bob. We won't be able to deeply troubleshoot the radio sadly as it was not purchased from us. On the Crux CS-GM29 we can help though absolutely! So that speaker inside the Crux harness is really only there to play chimes (safety sounds) that the Vehicle would have originally. The only thing that I can think of is your phone is potentially still trying to connect to your Trucks old Bluetooth connection when you make a call and sending it through that chime speaker in the interface, because any OEM Bluetooth or Onstar is not retained with this harness. First thing I would try is going into your phone's Bluetooth settings and deleting any old connections you don't use anymore and see if that alleviates the issue. It's also not a bad idea to make sure you ran the new Bluetooth mic with the new radio and connected it. Even if you are using Android Auto try re-paring with Bluetooth to the new radio as well. If the problem persists, give our Technical Support line a call live at 1-888-292-2575, and we can dig further. I hope this helps Bob!

This wiring interface can work in your vehicle but does not let you retain OnStar. I do have a wiring interface that can retain OnStar. The GMOS-LAN-01 interface keeps OnStar working with the new radio: www.crutchfield.com/p_120OSLAN01/item.html
