Keep your factory features

PAC's RP5-GM31 wiring interface enables you to install a new car stereo and retain useful factory functions in select General Motors vehicles. You can upgrade to the higher sound quality of an aftermarket receiver while maintaining your factory-installed OnStar®, backup cam, amplifier, Bluetooth®, safety warning chimes, Retained Accessory Power (RAP), and rear seat controls.

Control your new radio

This interface retains the use of your factory steering wheel audio controls with your new car stereo. The interface comes pre-programmed with the factory control functions, or you can reassign the functions of your factory buttons, or even assign two functions to each of your factory buttons. If you're installing a navigation receiver, this interface also features the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), parking brake, and reverse connections you need.

This interface works with aftermarket radios from Kenwood, Alpine, JVC, Clarion, Pioneer, Sony, Fusion, Boyo, Dual, Lightning Audio, Visteon and Advent.

Installation note: This interface will not retain the fader controls on vehicles with the factory premium Bose® audio system.

Features

Radio Replacement Interface: The PAC RP5-GM31 interface allows the replacement of a factory radio in select General Motors vehicles with 29-bit LAN radios. Using this interface will retain factory features such as OnStar, steering wheel controls (SWC), warning chimes, Rear Seat Controls (RSC), and the Bose amplifier when the original radio is removed. The RP5-GM31 also provides data bus driven outputs such as retained accessory power (RAP), vehicle speed sensor (VSS), illumination, reverse trigger and parking brake.

Vehicle Compatibility: The RadioPro4 (RP5-GM31) is compatible with the following 2006-2015 GM vehicles equipped with a factory GM LAN 29-bit Data-bus radio.

Make Model Year
Buick Enclave 2008-2015
Lucerne 2006-2011
Cadillac DTS 2006-2010
Escalade 2007-2014

Chevrolet Avalanche 2008-2013
Equinox 2007-2009
Express 2008-2013
Impala 2007-2013
Monte Carlo 2006-2007
Silverado 2007-2014
Suburban 2007-2014
Tahoe 2007-2014
Traverse 2009-2017
GMC Acadia 2007-2015
Savana 2008-2013
Sierra 2007-2014
Yukon 2007-2014

Vue 2008-2010
Suzuki XL-7 2007-2008

Notes:

  • Chevrolet Express vans & GMC Savannah vans equipped with diesel engines are not compatible.
  • In 2014-up Silverado and Sierra trucks, only compatible with 2500 & 3500 series trucks with non-navigation radios. 1500 series must use the RP5-GM51 (541RP5GM51, sold separately).
  • 2012-up GM trucks and SUVs equipped with factory navigation radios require the RP5-GM32 (541RP5GM32, sold separately).

Amplified or Non-Amplified Systems: The PAC RP5-GM31 can be used in GM vehicles with or without a factory amplified system. Its compatible with both analog and digital factory amplifier systems (including the Bose, non-Bose, and Y-91 audio systems). It retains front and rear speakers, as well as center and subwoofer. Fader control is retained in analog factory amplified systems, but not in digital factory amplified systems. Your head unit should be equipped with front, rear, and sub preouts.

OnStar & Bluetooth: This radio replacement interface is designed to retain the factory OnStar emergency services system and turn-by-turn voice prompts that would normally be lost when your factory radio is replaced by an aftermarket head unit. The interface also lets you keep your vehicle's factory installed Bluetooth (2009+ model vehicles with OnStar only).

Steering Wheel Control (SWC): The PAC radio replacement interface lets you keep your GM vehicle's factory steering wheel controls (no additional adapter required). You even get to program two radio functions to each SWC button by using short press long press dual command functionality.

Backup Camera & Sensor Retention: The interface also retains your vehicle's factory back-up camera. If the factory backup camera displayed on the factory radio, then the backup camera will now display on your new aftermarket receiver's monitor (new aftermarket receiver must have a composite video camera input). If the factory backup camera displays on the rearveiw mirror, the backup camera image will continue to display on the rearview mirror. In addition, you get to keep your vehicle's factory back-up sensor/park assist functionality (non-escalating)

Note: The RP5-GM31 does not retain escalating tones of parking sensor proximity.

RSE /RSC + Dual Zone: The PAC RP5-GM31 lets you retain the vehicle's factory rear seat controls (RSC) and rear seat entertainment (RSE) for Dual Zone capability with your aftermarket stereo. In order to retain rear seat entertainment (RSE), you will also need the PAC's GMRVD retention harness (127GMRVD, sold separately).

Retained Accessory Power (R.A.P.): The ignition power source of most GM vehicles keeps the radio on until one of the doors is opened; this feature is lost when replacing the factory radio with an aftermarket head unit without the proper installation accessories. The RP5-GM31 is designed to retain the R.A.P. feature and keep the radio powered after the key is off, until the driver door is opened or the factory timer ends; whichever happens first.

Warning Chimes & Messages: The PAC RP5-GM31 retains factory warning & safety chimes via the included chime module. However, it does not retain lane departure or forward collision warning tones.

Navigation Outputs: The PAC RP5-GM31 radio replacement interface module provides a VSS (vehicle speed sense), Parking Brake, and a Reverse Gear output to make installing an aftermarket navigation receiver simpler and less time consuming.

RadioPRO App: PAC offers a Windows compatible RadioPRO App software program to help you configure the interface.

Q
Would this keep the backup sensor alert?
fernando s  Apr 10, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Fernie. Thank you for your question. In most cases the backup sensors are on a separate circuit, and retained, but we would need specific vehicle information to answer this.

Q
Will this work with an Alpine iLX-W670 and a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse?

Q
Installed on my 2008 Silverado. This was purchased as part of the install kit with my Kenwood radio. Super easy to install and things seem to work perfectly fine except the chimes. Which I see in reviews appears to be the weak link. I am getting no sound from it at all. Even when sitting in driveway with blinker on I cannot hear anything. While I can probably live with it as is, just wondering if there is anything else I should do or check?
steve  Feb 11, 2024
1 answer
A
You can adjust the chime volume level on the actual CMX chime module, Steven. Use the 4-position selector switch located on the side of the CMX chime module to select the best chime output volume for your specific installation. Setting 1 is going to be the loudest, with 4 being the softest. We are always here to help!
bo  Feb 11, 2024 (Staff)
Q
Only some of my 2013 Sierra steering wheel controls work. The volume works, but the answer and drop calls function does not while using Bluetooth phone (not car play) on a Sony AX3200. Is this a limitation? Or is it installed incorrectly?
raj56  Oct 04, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Rob. Thank you for your question. Steering wheel phone buttons are rarely retained. Unfortunately for your Sierra, we do not have another interface that could retain those.
hogan  Oct 04, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Are there different Chime Modules available? Or is there any way to change the sounds for the blinker?
chris  Sep 04, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Chris, and thank you for your question. There is only volume adjustments fo the included chime module, and we have no other modules that would work with this interface.

Q
Would this help maintain factory microphone for phone calls?
dj  May 13, 2023
1 answer
A
We do not have gear that will adapt a factory installed microphone to an aftermarket radio. The new radio's microphone must be installed for its Bluetooth to work

Am i able to switch back to the old turn signal and chime sound, or do i have to deal with this new annoying one?

That's an excellent question and with that PAC adapter you would have to use the module that comes with it.

Q
My aftermarket pioneer radio keeps losing power, turning off and on, my chimes quit working as well. Now my instrument cluster sticks, would a new harness fix this? I also have a backup camera and onstar, neither work.
austin  Aug 02, 2022
1 answer
A
If you are having radio power and OEM feature retention issues, a new harness is a great place to start Austin. The instrument cluster could be an unrelated issue, but on vehicles that use these PAC RP5-GM31 without knowing your exact vehicle I can't confirm much. When you can give us a shout at 1-800-324-9695 and talk to a live Advisor so we can pull up your exact ride and take a close look. I do agree that a new harness is the best way to confirm 1, that you have the correct harness IN place, and 2, that the radio is working properly.

Bodey it should work fine. I purchased this wiring kit about a year ago and used it to install a Boss double DIN receiver in my dads 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. The wiring instructions with the radio made it pretty easy.

More information would be helpful are you utilizing a factory backup camera or aftermarket? If factory you might just need to get the adapter that converts the factory connection to the rca style aftermarket connection. If your backup camera is aftermarket you might need to tap in to the reverse light power wire so your camera gets the signal to turn on. Also look in the new head until to ensure the setting are set to open the camera when the camera turns on. When I installed the PAC RP5-GM31 on my vehicle I was installing a aftermarket backup camera at the same time and it hooked directly in to the head until not the PAC RP5-GM31. Just had to tap it in to the reverse light for the camera to receive signal to turn on if I remember correctly. Hope this helps

Q
Once wired with the aftermarket radio, will this plug directly into the vehicles harness? Meaning, will I have to splice wires from the aftermarket radio, this interface and vehicle harness? Or just this interface and the radio, then plug into the vehicles existing harness? 2011 Chevy Silverado. Thanks.
christian  Dec 11, 2020
1 answer
A
I used this kit along with a head unit and paid for ReadyHarness. Crutchfield spliced in the aftermarket head unit wiring with this harness for something cheap, like $25. I did not have to splice anything into the factory wiring. I just plugged the harness into the OEM cabling connector and that was it.

Q
If i am wiring all of my door speakers to a 4 channel amplifier, will the chime and/or back-up sensors still sound through the speakers with this kit? If not, can I just use the standard non-bose harness to install my aftermarket radio?

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

I installed a Sony radio a while back and ordered this kit with it. My radio cuts off and back on ever since I've installed it. I contacted a support rep and they sent me a new radio but it still shuts off. I'm wondering if it's possible that I'm running to much power through this box? May need to wire the amp in on the other side of it? Any tips would be greatly appreciated

I'm using this interface and a Sony XAV-AX5000. The rear camera works but, I need to manually select the camera option when backing up. It doesn't automatically open the camera when I'm in reverse. Is there an option or setting that I'm missing?

The Sony should have a reverse trigger wire that when connected to the reverse output wire on this interface, the backup camera feed automatically comes up. If you purchased you gear from us, give our technical support a call as they can help make sure the wiring gets properly connected
jason  Feb 26, 2020 (Staff)
A
You will need to check the owner's manual for the SonyXAV-AX5000 on how to wire it to the car so it can detect that you are in reverse. Usually it is 1 wire that you connect to the reverse lights in the wiring panel in the vehicle.
