About the AudioSource AD508

Kramer Crane

Play music in four rooms at the same time

Did you buy a house that came with speakers already installed in the walls or ceilings? Or are you planning to put in a system like that from scratch? In either case, I can recommend AudioSource's AD508 as an amplification option for your medium-sized home.

Play music in four rooms at the same time

Did you buy a house that came with speakers already installed in the walls or ceilings? Or are you planning to put in a system like that from scratch? In either case, I can recommend AudioSource's AD508 as an amplification option for your medium-sized home.

This high-current, four-zone amp powers up to eight speakers simultaneously. It's flexible too. Play the same source through all four zones, or have a different source play in each of your zones.

Plenty of power under the hood

AudioSource made sure that the '508 has enough horsepower for your speakers. It delivers 65 watts per channel into eight ohms, and a robust 100 watts per channel into four ohms. Need a mountain of power to drive your heavy-duty outdoor or floor-standing speakers? Bridge two channels together and get a mighty 200 watts per channel into eight ohms.

Versatile inputs...

The AD508 offers two pairs of RCA inputs, as well as one optical digital input. These are handy for playing multiple sources in your various listening rooms at the same time. Each zone also has a dedicated pair of RCA inputs for playing a "local" source in that room only.

...and outputs

Want to expand your multi-room system? Use the RCA outputs to feed audio signals to an additional amp of your choice.

Multiple power-on options

The '508 can be turned on manually, or automatically when it detects a source. It's also 12-volt trigger compatible, so you can have it turn on when another piece of equipment is fired up.

Rear-mounted bass and treble controls provide tone adjustments.

Product Research

Features

AudioSource AD Series: AudioSource AD series digital amplifiers are designed for home and commercial audio distribution systems where high quality sound, flexibility, and reliability are essential. The AD series offers high efficiency and exclusive features that will make their installation and use easy and convenient.

8-Channel Power Amplifier: The AudioSource AD508 is an 8-channel amplifier that is designed for distributed audio applications. The amplifier can be configured for Stereo (4-ohm minimum) or Bridged (8-ohm minimum) output.

  • Stereo (8-ohm): 65 watts x 8 channel @ 20-20kHz with <0.2 THD+N
  • Stereo (4-ohm): 100 watts x 8 channel @ 20-20kHz with <0.2 THD+N
  • Bridged Mono (8-ohm): 200 watts x 4 channel @ 1kHz with <0.2 THD+N

4 Zones: The AD508 can distribute audio to 4 Zones. You can configure the amplifier to play the same source input (Bus 1/Bus 2) in each Zone, group source inputs (Bus 1/Bus 2) in specific Zones, or have different sources (Line In 1-8) playing in each Zone. Each Zone can consist of one pair of stereo speaker, two speakers in mono, or one Bridged-mono speaker. Each Zone also has independent level control.

Bus Line Inputs & Outputs: The AD508 has two "common" or Bus inputs that receive audio signals from standard line-level audio sources and sends them to any or all channels and zone. The two pair of Bus line outputs are direct feed-through to allow the Bus inputs to be fed to other amplifiers.

  • Bus Level Controls: Each Bus has its own independent level adjustment. This allows the output level of each Bus to be adjusted to make up for different source levels, or to group two different source's volume levels. The Bus Level Control can be operated from the rear-panel or remote control in 1dB increments.
  • Bus Bass & Treble Controls: Bass (100Hz) & Treble (10kHz) can be adjusted (from -12 to +12B) independently for Bus 1 and Bus 2.

Optical Digital Input: The AudioSource AD508 also features an optical (toslink) digital input that is assigned to Bus 1. This digital input only support 2ch PCM (not compatible with Dolby Digital or DTS).

Individual Channel Input: In addition to the Bus line inputs & Optical digital input, the AD508 offers a dedicated input for each of the eight output channels, so you can have a discrete source playing through each connected speaker.

Phoenix-Style Speaker Outputs: The AD508 uses high-quality Phoenix-style connectors for each speaker output (1-8). The Phoenix-style connectors can accept 14-18 gauge speaker wire. There are two sets of Phoenix-style connectors in each Zone (1-4), so you can connect two speakers in stereo, two speakers in mono, or one speaker in Bridged-mono in each Zone.

  • Source Selection: Each output channel (1-8) is capable of delivering source audio from on of 3 inputs - Bus 1, Bus 2, or Line In. You can choose to play the same source or different sources from each output channel.
  • Gain Control: Each output channel (1-8) has its own independent level adjustment. This allows the output level of each speaker to be perfectly matched to its area. It can also be used to limit the maximum audio level in a certain area.

IR Remote: The included IR remote provides wireless operation of the power amplifier. Remote functions consists of Power On/Off, Bus 1 Volume Up/Down, Bus 2 Volume Up/Down, and Mute.

Trigger Input/Output: The AD508 is outfitted with a trigger input and output, each consisting of a 3.5mm minijack terminal. The 3.5mm trigger input will accept a 3-30V AC/DC output from another electronic component device to turn the amplifier On from Standby mode. The A508 also provides a 3.5mm trigger output (12V/500mA) to turn on and off another electronic component device.

Detachable AC Power Cord: The AD508 comes with a detachable 6' AC power cord which will need to be plugged into an AC wall outlet, surge protector, or power conditioner.

Mounting Options: The AudioSource AD508 power amplifier features four heavy-duty feet and can simply be placed on top of a flat surface; like a table-top, shelf, or stand. You can also remove the four feet and rack-mount the amplifier using the included rack-mount ears and screws.

Q
How to reprogram Audiosource AD508?
ben  Mar 29, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Ben, so the Audiosource amp is a power amp which means there isn't really anything to program when setting this up. That being said if you purchased the product from Crutchfield, feel free to contact our Tech Support team. They can walk you through the settings on the product and see if there may be a fix for what you need. Our toll-free Tech Support number is printed on your invoice, and is also available under the "My Orders" tab in the "My Account" section of our website. If you did not purchase the unit from Crutchfield, then you may want to contact the manufacturer.

Q
Does this amp has an app to control thru smart phones or tablets? If yes, can the inputs be switched between zones?
mr lee  Nov 10, 2021

A
No.... on the first, and each zone can be manually set to one of 2 input channels
craig  Nov 12, 2021
A
Mr. Lee- no app. Use mine as a sub-amp after the main receiver. Has a signal switch that turns it on after I turn on the zone this is located on. Could use a switch after that- but all manual.
marcus  Nov 11, 2021
A
The amp does not have an app or blue tooth connectivity. I believe it is meant to used with a stereo receiver but I purchased a separate blue tooth receiver that I connected to RCA inputs on the amp so I could use it without a stereo receiver. I used individual volume controls for the different zones.
robert  Nov 10, 2021
A
No, it isn't controllable via an app.
jorge  Nov 10, 2021
Q
Can I use this and for my SVS ultra towers which have two sets of binding posts in the back for biamping, can I use this in bridge mode into four channels two for each speaker for each one of The binding posts on the back of the speaker will have 200 and 200 going to one single Tower same for the other side?

Q
Can i have 6 channels with 8 ohm speakers and 2 channels with 4 ohms speakers on this unit?
steve  Jun 01, 2021
1 answer
A
Yes you can, but pair up the speakers by each set of speaker pairs. In other words, connect your 4 ohm pair to the left and right connectors for output 1 and the 8 ohm pairs to outputs 2-4. The amp will automatically adjust for the resistance of the connected speakers by output pair, but not if you mix a 4 ohm speaker on the right channel and an 8 ohm speaker on the left. Also, you will have more power available to the 4 ohm speakers.
mark  Jun 01, 2021
Q
Can I turn off or control volume on individual zones?
ray  Jan 30, 2021
2 answers
A
yes you can , and also control the left or right control volume to each speaker
steve  Jan 31, 2021
A
This unit has 2 inputs that you can control the volume independently from the remote. Each Input has it own master gain control as well as treble and bass controls. Off of those 2 inputs, you can split them between any of the 4 zones. 2 speakers per zone, or one if they are bridged like mine:) Each zone can be switched between input 1, 2 or its own line in. Each of the 4 zones has their own left and right gain control as well.

Q
Can I bridge this amp to 4 channels to drive my Atmos ceiling speakers? I Vance a monolith 7 channel amplifier driving my 7 surround speakers. Can I run my preamp trigger to the AD508 and then to my 7 channel amp?
randy  Nov 27, 2020
2 answers
A
Yes, you can bridge each speaker pair to go from 8 channel stereo to 4 channel mono. Also, it automatically goes into standby when it doesn't detect an input signal, so you don't really need a trigger. I run a Yamaha preamp/source controlled by an app on my mobile phone. This amp stays in standby (you can also turn it off on the front panel) until I select a source from the app (Bluetooth, optical from my TV, WiFi from a whole range of apps like Sirius, Pandora, etc.) which turns this amp on. I would run your trigger directly to the 7 channel and let this amp turn on whenever it detects an input. That will give you more options. Also of note, this amp is very heavy and the controls other than power on are on the back. If you install it in a rack, no issue of access. However, if it is in a cabinet you will want to set it up properly via the rear controls, use the Phoenix connectors to clamp your speaker wires (14ga or smaller), get the amp close to its final position in the cabinet, plug the Phoenix connectors in and then slide it back into its final position. You will thank me later!

Q
Can I feed this with a home theatre receiver and if so what channel, or channels, should I use coming off the theatre receiver?
craig  Sep 25, 2020
1 answer
A
This amp will most commonly be used with home theater receivers that have secondary zone preamp outputs to help power multiple speakers in a that is not the home theater room. It may be best to contact an advisor using 1-800-324-9695 to discuss your goals and gear to get a personal recommendation on new gear to meet your goals

A
No, you just need bare wire, the picture of the back of the amp does not reflect properly, I thought the same thing.

As long as its not super thick cables, no - connected fine directly. Not my favorite connector, but no adapter needed.
richard  Apr 23, 2020
