Product Research

Features

Overview: The HomeLink Universal Garage Door Opener is a programmable, 2-button device that can be installed in your vehicle, or on your motorcycle, lawn mower or ATV. It is compatible with almost all garage door systems. This compact can operate your garage door, security gate, or home lighting. It is powered by a long-life, self-contained battery.

Compatibility: The HomeLink Universal Garage Door Opener is compatible with over 99% of garage door and gate opening systems, including the following brands: Allstar, Chamberlain, Craftsman, Genie, Guardian, Hormann, Liftmaster, Linear, Marantec, Overhead Door, Ryobi, Sommer, Wayne Dalton, and Xtreme Garage. It can also be used with Allstar, Chamberlain, DoorKing (MicroCLIK systems only), Chamberlain Elite, Linear, and Sentex gate operators.

Programming: You will need to program the HomeLink device, so that it "learns" the codes of your manufacturer's remote. Once you have installed the HomeLink in your vehicle, the manufacturer's remote is held 1 to 3 inches from the HomeLink device, while pressing the buttons on the remote. Some garage door opener systems use a rolling code, which requires extra steps in programming the HomeLink.

Installation: The HomeLink Universal Garage Door Opener installs in your vehicle's dash or console for a factory look. Flush-mounting the device requires a cutout of 1.56" x 0.821" (cutout template included), and 2.756" of clearance behind the mounting surface. Some vehicles have properly-sized knockouts that can be used. When installed, the device is approximately 1" x 2" x 1/2" above the mounting surface.

Customer Q&A

8 questions already asked

Q
Will this fit a 2020 Indian Challenger?
armon  Mar 13, 2024
1 answer
A
We do not qualify the Gentex GENHLBP1 for specific vehicle install, Armon. Flush-mounting the device requires a cutout of 1.56" x 0.821" (cutout template included), and 2.756" of clearance behind the mounting surface. Some vehicles have properly sized knockouts that can be used. If yours does not, the GENHLBP1 will need to be custom mounted.

Q
Will this fit a 2020 Indian Challenger motorcycle?

A
Greetings Armon. Thank you for your question. This is a universal part, you will be needing to create an opening somewhere on your motorcycle for this.

Q
How long does the battery last?
twicey  May 16, 2022
1 answer
A
Gentex simply lists the built-in battery as a "long-life" battery. Battery life can depend on how often it's used, but under typical usage, it should last for many years.

Q
Can this be wired to the switch so that you can not use it without the car being turned on?
crleeii  Sep 02, 2020

A
The unit is self-contained and runs off a battery. If you wire in a relay on one end of the battery, that would accomplish what you want. Probably void the warranty.

A
No, it has its on battery power. It works great.

Q
Can the bottom be shaved down a teeny bit? I need a 1/16 if an inch more and I do see there is a little ridge of plastic. I know it's not factory recommended, but I'm asking how thick the bottom is before I hit electronics.

A
We don't have that information because shaving or modifying it could void the warranty. However, if that isn't an issue and if you are referring to the face, it does appear that you could shave that off without hitting/exposing any electronics. If its the depth that is an issue, that looks too close for comfort. My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

Will this fit in the toggle switch locations in my 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser? I have 6 blank spots in the lower console switch bank, and would like to know if this will snap in without a need to modify the openings.

This is designed to fit in most knockouts. The Dimensions are Height 2" x Width 1" x Depth 3"

It did not fit in the blank switch cut outs in my 2016 Tacoma without a bit of modification.
