Video: Cambridge Audio CXA Series integrated amplifiers

Makes all your audio sources sound their best

Cambridge Audio's CXA amplifiers let you hear your music the way it was meant to be heard. They feature high-quality Wolfson DACs, two channels of discrete amplification, and efficient operation. Cambridge Audio really sweats the details in the construction, too —  these amps are built to last. See what Ben from Cambridge Audio has to say about the CXA amplifiers in this video.

Voiceover: Ben from Cambridge Audio held a training session at Crutchfield so we asked him to explain the features of some popular products.

Ben: So first up we've got two new integrated amplifiers in the range-the CXA60 and the CXA80. And as the name implies they are 60 watts per channel and 80 watts per channel. And that's real 8 ohm power figures. To 4 ohms that power figure increases by 50% to 90 watts and to 120 watts. When you first start to play with these amplifiers one of the first things that you'll notice is that they both have a range of analog and digital inputs. They've both got four RCA inputs and they've also both got three digital inputs. So with that in mind we've got a high quality Wolfson DAC inside both of these amplifiers and it's actually the same Wolfson DAC that we use inside our award winning Stream Magic 6.

Both of these amplifiers also are compatible with the optional BT100 Bluetooth receiver allowing you to stream high quality Bluetooth and also aptX Bluetooth. In both of these amplifiers we mount the toroidal transformer centrally away from the sensitive input stage. What we also do is we run completely separate and fully symmetrical left and right amplifier channels and separate left and right channel heat sinks in both of the amplifiers.

So there are four key differences between the CXA60 and the CXA80. First it's the extra power-80 watts per channel compared to 60. We have got asynchronous USB audio and balanced XLR allowing connection to a lot of high end or pro audio gear. What we then do in the CXA80 is we go one step further and we use a larger toroidal transformer with a secondary winding allowing us to power the left and the right amplifier channels separately giving us a dual mono amplifier design.

Voiceover: If you have any questions about Cambridge Audio products please give Crutchfield a call.
