How to install the Alpine KTP-445 Power Pack

Upgrade your car stereo with this compact, powerful amplifier

This video demonstrates how easy it is to install the Alpine KTP-445 Power Pack amplifier module. The Power Pack bumps up the power output of your Alpine stereo to 45-watts RMS per channel, giving your music increased clarity and detail. You get the power and improved sound of an external amplifier at a fraction of the cost and with a much easier installation.

Note: Since this video article first appeared, Alpine replaced the KPT-445 model with the KTP-445A, which works the same way as the KTP-445.

In this short Crutchfield video we're borrowing a coworker's Jeep to show you how easy it is to install the Alpine KTP-445 Power Pack. The Power Pack is an add-on, 45-watts per channel amplifier module that works with Alpine stereos.

Installing the Power Pack is really simple. It connects between the stereo and the original Alpine wiring harness. First you'll have to remove your stereo from the dash. Carefully pull off the trim ring as we've done here and use the removal tools that came with your stereo to release the locking clips on the sides. Then pull out the stereo and carefully unplug the wires and set it aside.

Next find a place to mount the Power Pack behind your dash. Alpine made the wires long enough to reach the stereo from just about anywhere in the dash. In our case, we were easily able to stick the Power Pack right behind the Jeep's glove box.

Now it's time to hook it up. Plug one end of the Power Pack's wires into the harness that's already connected to your cars wiring, then grab the stereo and plug the other connector from the Power Pack into the back of it. One nice thing is that the plugs only fit one way and that makes it easy to get right.

Now carefully re-install your stereo and guess what? You've more than doubled the power in your Alpine stereo without the extra work of installing an outboard amp and that extra power will bring out musical details you weren't hearing before.     Im assuming the install is exactly the same with an Alpine KTA-450 amplifier? It will be mounted to an Alpine ILX-w650. If I have aftermarket door speakers, is it still plug and play?

    Kevin, The KTA-450 comes with a mounting bracket to attach it to the back of that receiver. And it comes with a harness that plugs into it. But, as in all installations, some additional wiring is required.

    Ok my original car radio doesn't connect to a 15a fuse in the fuse block. So I have to connect the KTP-445A directly to the battery. Do I connect the neg side to the OEM adapter and the yellow (batt) side to the battery or do I have to use a different ground for the KTP-445A amp. And connect the yellow to battery.

    Evan, The Alpine KTP-445A was designed to work with Alpine receivers and features plug and play connections for that. There's no need for dedicated wire runs to the battery. Perhaps you're thinking about the KTP-445U which does.

    I had a KTP-445U installed in my 2018 Camry SE with standard factory audio system (non-JBL). I'm now having a Bluetooth Audio Echo problem where the caller hears their own voice echoing back to them when calling my phone which is connected via Bluetooth to my car. Do you have any suggestions as to what might not be installed or adjusted properly that would cause this problem?

    Ken, I'm not sure, but it sounds to me that the Bluetooth microphone was installed too near the speakers, hence the echo on the caller's side.     Hi, I want to install component speakers instead of factory in the front door and by the windshield i have a 1997 camry and the speakers are Jl audio C3-650s. The wiring is good for those speakers?

    Chris, The Alpine KTP-445/A comes with wiring harnesses that have plugs on each end - there aren't supposed to be any loose wires. Maybe you're asking about a different amp's wiring harness.     Joseph, The Alpine KTP-45U has speaker-level inputs, so there's no need for an external line output converter.

    Marc, The Alpine KTP-445A only works with Alpine receivers because of the brand-specific plugs and harnesses they use. Fortunately for you, Alpine makes a universal version of that amp, the KTP-445U Power Pack, which'll work with any aftermarket receiver.

    Greg, When you purchase an aftermarket receiver, you also need to get a wiring harness that gets hard-wired to the new receiver's wiring harness and then plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness. The KTP-445A plugs up between the receiver's wiring harness and the receiver itself. Why don't you give us a call and an Advisor will make sure you get all the gear and accessories you need to successfully install your system. Your vehicle's wiring will handle the amp's 45 watts per channel output just fine.

    What if you are installing a new Alpine head unit and the amp at the same time. Will the vehicles original old harness need to be modified? Or is the amp made to accept it? Will factory speaker wire be able to handle the 90 watts per channel?

    Marvin, You first unplug your Alpine radio from the vehicle harness. Then you plug one of the KTP-445's plugs into the receiver and the other into the vehicle harness plug. It's a lot simpler than it sounds.

    Is the install this easy for all stock head units, or just for Alpine head units? Any wire cutting/splicing needed for a 2016 Tacoma Entune head unit?

    Alex, yes, you'll connect the Alpine harness to your factory wiring. However, you'll the aftermarket stereo will need to be an Alpine.
