96 Buick Century
Gerald from Chiloquin OR on 2/13/2022
1996 Buick Century
I bought this after purchasing a stereo and "all" necessary installation parts for a 1996 buick century from another online store. Everything worked except the new deck wouldn't set far enough into the dash. This set it out far enough to clear the heater duct and fixed the problem. I mocked up a stereo order from CF with similar stereo and this kit was included along with installation instructions. I won't make that mistake again. It will be Crutchfield now on for me!
Pros: Free installation instructions and looks great.

Not very good at all
Crutchfield customer from Canoga Park, CA on 11/25/2020
Kit consists of a main body that you mount to vehicle and then one of three different adapters snaps into (nice set up). Problem. The main body has no mounting brackets. My truck appeared to have an older version of this innit as the mounting brackets from old kit worked. There were only two, I had to fabricate a third. 2nd problem. My brand new Jensen single din radio did not fit into any of the 3 adapters without needing to file about 1/16 of an inch on both left and right side (there is an insert for shaft radio I removed , but din opening is too narrow for radio unless the Jensen radio is wider than standard , i doubt it. Lack of supplying a couple small brackets ( they said use brackets that came with radio, there were none, and wrong size hole ruined an otherwise decent product

Using this in an 84 Fiero. Seems to fit ok. Have not drove the car since installing this kit, hoping road vibration does shake it loose.Kit does not include mounting tab to fasten it solid to the dash, think you are supposed to use the one from the stock radio which mine did not when I bought the car. It does have different face plate options for flush, 1/2" out, and 1" out from dash depending on how far back your radio sets in the dash.I have a Kenwood KMM-BT228U reseiver and was able to use the flush face plate.
Pros: options for mounting depth.
Cons: No mounting tabs to secure to the dash. Believe you need the tabs from the stock radio which I did not have.

Kit fits a 1984 Chevy S10 perfectly with the zero rise face plate on a Kenwood media player. The kit also comes with what looks like a 5/8" rise and a 1" rise faceplates so a CD player MAY fit with the 1" plate. I know they will not with the zero rise. Good quality and by using the side brackets that were on the factory radio to mount the new bracket in the install is very sturdy and no chance of the player sagging in the rear.

Missing mounting tabs
Ron from Linthicum, MD on 5/23/2018
1987 Buick Grand National
I needed this kit to install a modern removable faceplate Alpine receiver into the dash of a 1987 Buick Regal Grand National. The kit came in a sealed bag, but didn't have any mounting tabs. I needed the tabs to attach to the sides of the kit to attach it to the dash. I don't know how the makers of this kit expected the kit to be mounted. I ended up finding some bits and pieces from some past installs of several other kits to complete the job. Keep in mind, this isn't my 1st install by far. I've been installing high complete stereo systems since the late 80's. This includes custom sub boxes, amp racks, crossovers and the old Alpine multidisc players, just to name a few. Extremely disappointed.

No blemishes on plastic and texture is nice. Three sizes permits custom fit. Overall nice product to make things easier. The instructions are not not clear and appear to be a photocopy of a photocopy a thousand times over. That said, it's easy to figure it out. I bought this for a 1986 Olds Cutlass 442 and the only disappointment is that it doesn't come with the side mounting brackets that hold the entire assembly to the dash. Make sure you save your old ones or buy a universal kit.

Its not bad for what it is but I was hoping it would help the radio blend in with the rest of the car, which it didn't at all. It actually made it look more out of place because it causes it makes the unit stick-out a bit eventhough there was more than enough space behind it..

Not the best but worked
CarbonUnit.01 from Decatur, IL. on 9/13/2012
1990 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight Royale
Biggest problem I had with this kit is if you are using an older unit that you have been swapping in and out of vehicles and you do not have the DIN mount that came with said unit you are fabbing up brackets. This means you are under the dash a lot longer placing unit in and out to try to make it look as good as possible. Would like to have found a face plate that had a small pocket in it, they had plenty of room to mold one into it. But hay for the price and I was able to find something for a 1990 Oldsmobile 88 Royale I should complain.
Pros: Cheap
Cons: No bracket options with kit, no pocket

I have used this kit in other applications and already knew the "tricks" to getting it installed. Fit was perfect after I trimmed off 2 alignment tabs on the car's lower radio bracket that prevented its installation on the kit's chassis support cage. The installation instructions (diagrams) still need to be improved on this product to eliminate questions by the user.
Pros: Nice look and finish that goes well with most interiors. Completely covers the 1.5 DIN GM radio bay when installing a 1 DIN head unit.
Cons: Poor instructional materials. Had to be modified for my application.

Leaves things to be desired
BJ from Colorado on 5/6/2012
1989 Chevrolet Astro
This item comes with everything but aftermarket brackets. The Crutchfield website clearly states that the mounting brackets from the factory stereo are required for proper installation. This item should just come with plastic replacement brackets as we did not have the original stereo and the item is dealer only, that of which is not stocked or manufactured anymore.
Pros: Comes complete as described and functions as intended ONLY when the factory brackets are present (from the original stereo, if you have it still).
Cons: Does not include plastic replacement brackets. This item auto ships from Crutchfield and was a waste of Crutchfield's time, money and shipping costs to send this item to me even though we knew ahead of time that it wasn't going to be sufficient to mount the radio since the factory brackets were missing.

Great kit! It has several different face plates. The kit adapted well to my car. There are no gaps and the stereo mounting is tight.

Makes the install easy and professional looking!

1992 Chevrolet Lumina APV
This was really a no-brainer. When you have a double din spot in the dash and in my case a radio that was 1 inch deeper than what my Lumina had room for, this made the installation look professional and very simple.

Had To Buy Different Kit
Crutchfield customer from Tennessee on 5/28/2011
1990 Cadillac Seville
When I bought my new radio for my car, I bought this with it. Well, I had to buy a whole new kit because this was not able to secure the bracket in place. Everything else was fine but I could not secure the radio in so it was just sitting in the hole. It needs more instructions.

Its great... If you know what your doing
Sjim from Farmington, NM on 5/27/2011
1985 Cadillac Cimarron
This has a nice clean look, but their are no instructions included. Luckly I put together several simular types of kits. I put an extra front panel in the back of the adapter to have a more stable frame since I will hit a few rocky dumps. This is nice and easy to put together if you have done it before.

American International CGM-123 Dash Kit

A nice kit but the instructions are very vague. Maybe Crutchfield could add a little more to their master sheet to explain this better. After figuring out it turned out to be a very nice installation.

Lame is the word!
Crutchfield customer from KS on 3/21/2011

No wonder it is free, it is near worthless for a correct fit. Instructions are almost non-existent, worst I have ever gotten with a purchase anywhere. Not happy with this installation kit at all!

Looks great, no instructions

As others have noted, the kit looks great, but comes with zero instructions. I figured it out eventually, but Crutchfield should fill in the gap here and make their own instructions for the dash kit.

GM In-dash Receiver Kit

1991 Buick Skylark
This kit was a breeze to install. Very easy to figure out. Fit in my 1991 Buick Skylark with zero problems. I had issues locating a kit to fit my car. I LOVE the "outfit my car" feature. Took the headache out of my search. Saved me a ton of time and money. Excellent resource.

What directions?
Herb from Bridgewater, NJ on 9/28/2010
1989 Buick Park Avenue
While the adapter kit worked quite well, the instructions were just about useless. They gave some direction but you were pretty much on your own to figure out the installation. I have used Crutchfield installation kits on several radio projects and have found them to be explicit and readily followed by the most inexperienced installer. Not so this GM kit. As I said, once you figure it out, the kit works and looks great, just be prepared to spend some grey cells trying to figure it out. If you're not good at problem solving, you might want to pay someone else to install this kit.

Doesn't Fit
Doug from Lebanon, MO on 2/8/2009

Crutchfield selected this product to fit my son's '89 Buick Park Avenue, but there was no way, without a lot of custom work, I could get it to work. A Scosche kit fit perfectly.

Awesome!
Marty from S.E. Michigan on 1/28/2009
The only issue I had with this was some minor flashing had to be trimmed off with an exacto knife. (Flashing is the super thin pieces of plastic which leak out bewtween the mold halves). This was not a big deal at all - almost all plastic injection molded parts have flashing. Other that that, I don't know if you could ask for a better way to mount your new head unit!
