This dash kit matched the interior trim, fit, and finish of my MK4 Golf, fitting perfectly in place where the previous factory Monsoon system resided. Additionally, the kit fit and matched my Sony XAV-AX100 headunit well, providing an easy installation and a firm fit. No complaints, a simply and well-designed kit.
Pros: Matched interior of the vehicle. Matched radio color and size. Fit in factory 2-DIN placement with no modification.
Cons: No real way of removing bezel once installed in vehicle without foreseeable damage (could be wrong though!)

No problems here
David from Dunmore , PA on 8/29/2018
2001 Volkswagen Jetta
I don't understand everyone's major malfunction with this product. My stereo (pioneer) slid right in, it came with beveled screws which sat flush, and the only modification I had to do involved 5 minutes and a hacksaw blade. In order to make my stereo flush with the dash I needed to trim the rear support out, totally not necessary, just personal preference. Unit was a little tight going into the dash, but I'd rather fight with it to get it out one day, than have it sliding around or falling out when I mash on the gas.
Pros: Great fit, blends right in, not overpriced

Works, but not Exceptionally
Matt from TALLAHASSEE, FL on 7/24/2017
2004 Volkswagen Jetta
Unit worked, but not as well as it could have. The side tabs had slots but the screws, which were beveled, would cause the tabs to bow out. Also, with only six screws you could only do three on each side, so either the top or bottom tabs bowed out more than the others. Flush mounting a unit with a mobile face causes the unit's face to interfere with trim. After filing the trim down it worked, but after pushing it into the dash something shifted and the unit had interference problems again. Finally, the face on mine had a matte, rough, textured surface which looked terrible when surrounded by the smooth, glossy finish of the trim pieces in the Jetta. A few hours of sanding, getting down to 2000 grit, made it passable, but still not quite the same. Once it's in, it's really hard to get it back out; which could be a good thing if you're concerned about theft.
Pros: Basic installation is easy
Cons: Like most things in life, making it perfect takes time and patience Unit interference Flimsy tabs Doesn't match vehicle interior Hard to uninstall

This trim ring did not fit my new Blaupunkt 220 New Jersey very well, and I had to use a hand file to trim the opening. It also fits in the double DIN hole so tight that I know it's going to be very difficult to remove it when the time comes. I gave it two stars instead of one because it is better than nothing.
Pros: It does hold the radio
Cons: Needed to be trimmed to fit.

So this thing is pretty cheap, I installed everything and my DD screen tilts and lowers down to insert a disc or SD, the bezel would bind up in the screen. Called the guys at Crutchfield and they had me take a file to it to keep the screen from binding up. Kinda irritated me quite frankly. Anyways, it works fine after some trial and error removing the whole unit a half dozen times.

Paul from Hutchinson, MN on 8/2/2016

The slots need to be beveled to work with the factory(or supplied) screws. the unit fit both the Pioneer and Blaupunkt decks in the front area but on the sides things didn't work as well. Due to the fact that the slots weren't beveled to match the flat head screws, the screws stuck out and made it difficult to fit the unit in the opening

Flimsy tabs where it screws to the receiver: tightening the 6 flat head screws included (but I had spots for 8 screws on the receiver) so that they recess enough to slide the receiver through the dash opening simply breaks the plastic. A better plastic, very flat cap-head screws, or receiver-specific HOLES, (instead of long slots) on the mounting tabs would all improve this product. If I ever had to remove the receiver for whatever reason, the American International VW-K1015 Dash Kit would have to be destroyed: I'd bet some who have installed a GPS receiver with this kit have wished they'd added a USB connection wire, or Sirius receiver and would have to destroy the kit to access the back of the receiver. Make sure your receiver works before sliding it back all the way in (and order a replacement American International VW-K1015 Dash Kit just in case!).

Thight fit is kind of scary
dha from Virginia on 10/4/2015
2001 Volkswagen Jetta
I used this to install a JVC radio into our 01 Jetta. I had trouble getting the radio into the dash. So much so that I could not get it inserted straight. I had to pull it forcefully out and start. The instructions say it is difficult to get the radio out once pushed in all the way. I would agree that it is difficult, but not impossible. What I learned: its really important to make sure that everything works and that wires are shoved back into the dash far enough so that there is plenty of room to push the radio in the first time. Aftermarket radios seem to be larger than OEM in my case.
Pros: Holds the radio in well, looks great and was not impossible to remove to adjust wiring
Cons: A very tight fit... you do have make sure you have cleared room in the dash to slip the radio in... because you really don't want to have to do it twice.

States in the instructions that once it's installed it's very difficult to remove. I would have found this to be a con during the install process and a pro for anti theft measures, however it was very easy to remove with a flat head screwdriver.

I did as mr.drew (see "his" review here) did and sanded and then painted the piece. I used the only can of spray black paint I had, wheel paint, and was pretty happy with the results. Only wish that the stereo (Jensen VX7022) itself was flat black. Was a bit nervous pushing it all in to place, very tight; but, it clicked in tightly and evenly.
Pros: Installs snuggly and the fit is excellent (2000 VW Golf).

works but you can make it better with 30min of DIY
mr.drew from LA on 6/9/2014
2005 Volkswagen Passat
This adapter plate works but there are a couple of key things you can do to make it better. 1) Take the time to wetsand the face of this unit with some 400 then 600 grit sandpaper so it will have a smooth finish like the rest of the dash components. Follow up with some plastic polish like headlight restore polish and then a few coats of flat black spray paint and it will look 100 times better once installed. 2) I had to sand down the little protrusions on the side that click into place to get it to fit....it is a VERY tight fit in the dash and I feel bad for the poor person that ever has to get this thing out (hopefully not me)
Pros: looks great
Cons: tight fit, needs a little DIY to make it match the rest of the dash

I received this product very quickly. It fit on my head unit well and then fit into the dash perfectly. I hadn't bought from Crutchfield in a few years (hadn't needed anything electronic for a little while), and this experience just reminded me how great of a company they are. Their customer service and attention to detail always shines through, even on a small purchase like this. They stand behind the products they sell, and offer unsurpassed support on them. They are truly in a league of their own.

Works but fit and finish could be improved
bobatious from near Seattle, WA on 1/15/2014
2002 Volkswagen Jetta
Using this in my 2002 jetta with Monsoon radio, I had to countersink of the slots where the fasteners are to be used, so that the screw heads will be flush with the sides of the bracket. Otherwise the bracket simply will not fit in the car's dash bracket radio space. Also the size is slightly larger than it needs to be in terms of frame width and height - would look more like factory if all sides were reduced by (very slight) 1/32" inch or so.
Pros: Works and looks fairly similar to factory trim on center console of VW.
Cons: Fit problem due to protrusion of screws (see review). Small look demerit due to edges being very slightly too large - not the same gap and look as the other parts of dash center console.

Hmmm.... easy to use, installs quite easily.... HOWEVER it does not "lock" in place and is not easily removed. If you made a mistake or with to reroute your Bluetooth mic, USB cable, etc., or need any dash work you have a nightmare on your hands. It does not utilize the factory mounting bracket, which would be a better way to go!!! So if your car can accept the mounting bracket with your stereo, I would highly suggest using it!!
Pros: easy easy, too easy!
Cons: Nightmare if you have to remove your car stereo!!!!

cheap plastic

2003 Volkswagen Jetta
It worked and it was free. But it was cheap plastic and I have my doubts that it really does secure the radio well. I am sure if I ever planned on removing the radio that it will have to be broken to remove, and that the dash will pay a price too. There is no way to remove it except prying against the dash.
Pros: Free with purchase
Cons: Cheap, no way to remove.

Only fits ok.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta
Fit is very tight, which I was expecting, however the bezel is really about 2mm too big all the way around, and the texture is too rough to match the rest of the center console.
Pros: Keeps the stereo in place well. Should make it hard to steal.
Cons: Texture and size of the bezel are not the best match for the console.

Only rated as worthless because it was not needed with the JVC radio purchased. Just caused some confusion on my part as to why I had the part. Did not fit the radio.
Pros: fit VW perfectly
Cons: Not needed for JVC radio and did not fit radio

2003 earlier Volkswagen DD radio
jansjetta from Grand Junction CO on 3/27/2012
2003 Volkswagen Jetta
Considering it's free with a radio purchase, it's a pretty good deal. Spend some time fitting the radio surround to the hole in your dash BEFORE you install the radio. The DD hole in the 2005 and earlier VWs is tight, especially if you have a 2003 or earlier VW with the in dash cup holder. The surround was a little wider and a little taller than the Monsoon head unit that was removed, so it had to be filed and sanded to fit and allow the cup holder to work. The plastic used in the surround is nice and flexible, a file and some 200 to 400 grit sandpaper worked great on it. The plastic responds well to sanding and you can tailor the surround to fit the contours of the hole left by the Monsoon DD unit. I had to take about 1/8" off the top of the unit so the cup holder door would work, and 1/16" off the sides on the corners only so it lined up with the HVAC controls on the bottom and the cup holder door on top. Finally, if you want the surround to almost perfectly match the black color of the cup holder door and the HVAC controls, sand the pebble grain off the face with 400 600 grit sandpaper and then buff with plastic polish. If you spend about 2 hours fitting and detailing this surround it will look almost perfect, better than any other aftermarket head unit install.
Pros: Plastic used on surround is high quality and easy to form and fit, flexible and resists breaking. It's free with radio purchase.
Cons: It's a universal DD install kit, one size fits all, and VWs are a little different, like every car out there.

It Works fine BUT,

2003 Volkswagen Passat
There just weren't a lot of options to install my Pioneer 4300DVD into my 2003 VW passat W8. This worked for me but it wasn't easy. In order for the head unit and receiver kit to fit into the vehicles stock space I really had to torque down the screws through the kit into the head unit so the screws were flush enough to not catch on the sides of the vehicles stereo hole... get it? That put a lot of pressure on the plastic kit and it began to flex. My concern here is that plastic kit will eventually fail (crack). OK.. It took a lot of patience to get that booger set into the "hole". It will work but it is one heck of a tight fit. Once in I just do not see any way possible to remove it. It's that tight. So, don't worry about theft. lol Anyone who tries to get that out will end up breaking the stereo. Make very sure that your system is working correctly and all cables that you want hooked up are installed (even cables you might not use right away ie. ipod cable.
Pros: Tight fit
Cons: Tight fit
