Bose's legendary noise-cancelling technology in a portable in-ear design? Sign us up. The Bose® QuietComfort® 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones minimize external noise, so you can hear your music or podcasts clearly. And these compact headphones deliver plenty of smooth Bose sound.

Stay aware of your surroundings

Powerful noise-cancellation is great in most situations, but not all. Think about busy city streets or running in the park — sometimes you need to be aware of what's happening around you. With the press of a button on the in-line remote, Bose's "Aware" mode kicks in. It passes external noise to your ears from two of the four tiny internal microphones. This allows you to hear your music while still paying attention to your environment.

A focus on long-lasting comfort

After a recent training session, many of us here at Crutchfield raved about the feel of the Bose StayHear®+ tips. With their soft, cone-shaped tips and stability loops, they make long listening sessions comfortable. They also stay put when you're on the move. Plus, the StayHear+ tips provide the proper seal required to keep external sound out for maximum noise-cancelling efficiency.

Bose has included three sizes of StayHear+ tips, to make sure these headphones will stay securely fitted in your ears as you go from the plane to the taxi, or as you exercise at the gym.

The ultra-compact QuietComfort 20 headphones feature an in-line remote, rechargeable battery, and passive listening to keep the music going if your battery runs out.

Built-in remote and microphone for iPhone

Got a phone call? Answer it with the push of a button while your iPhone stays in your pocket. The QuietComfort 20 headphones feature an in-line remote with a built-in microphone.  It also lets you control music playback and volume on your iPhone, iPod, or iPad.

16-hour battery, plus passive mode

The QuietComfort 20 headphones feature a built-in rechargeable battery that provides up to 16 hours of noise cancellation on a single charge. When it's time to refresh the battery, just connect the included USB cable to your computer or compatible AC charger. Stuck on a plane and can't recharge? Keep the music playing with Bose's passive listening mode. Just switch off the power and listen without noise cancellation until you're able to recharge the battery.

Fantastic. Get them. Honestly. The only drawback I can think of is that because they are so efficient you hear your own voice all muffled and it feels weird at first. But you get used to it.

Q20 is a nice earbud! Noise cancelling is ok. Battery life is only good for about 10 hrs and I'm detecting some hissing in the speakers. A bit too expensive.

A below average product...

Guest from Allegan, MI on 5/24/2018

Their cables become sticky over an year span and you would just not like to use them. So, a premium product goes directly to trash. Many a complaint to the technical support people at Bose go unheard. They have no solution for it. Frustrating support :(

I used them last week while flying cross country. It was a late flight and these let me sleep in quiet and comfort. Much easier to live with over my Bose Headset. Crutchfield was great through the entire purchase and shipping experience. I will buy from them again.

Great sounds and a must have for frequent flyers! The bag that comes with the headphones is too small and can easily cause damage to pertinent connectors on the headphone. Reinforce with Saguru when they happens and change to a bigger storage bag once you get the item!

Bose QC20 in-ear noise cancelling headphones

Guest from Sussex, NJ on 2/2/2018

The noise canceling feature is what drove to me Bose over some of the other brands - and I wanted pocket size buds rather than earmuffs ( I try to travel very light inside the plane, I don't even take laptops or ipads with me anymore). NC wise - they block 85% of outside noise/voices on planes - my ears get sensitive on the plane, especially the frequent 'Dings', and I have the tendency to 'need' to sleep during red-eye flights...just put your music on a middle volume range, and the outside world drowns out. You need to give the buds a twist to seal them into your ear - for me I need to adjust them every 15 minutes or so for the seal. Sound quality is paramount to me (JL C5's & 13TW5V2 powered by Alpine PDXs in my truck)- these are probably a 2.8 of 5 on the sound quality scale...Bose certainly are NOT 'the best sound', but they are not terrible as some audio snobs would report. I think there are certain bands missing or attenuated, but they are mostly clear and even. The bass is the type where you're reminded its there, and you can hear some of it, but you really need to imagine what the bass sounds/feels like from a real subwoofer. Ignore the feature where you can use them unpowered...the sound does become terrible. If you don't need the NC, go with a different brand. Reluctantly, these are still a fair 3.5 overall at retail, and 4 if on sale. Make sure to listen to them first.

Great product, can't hear any outside noise and very comfortable

Great sound, very convenient

Richard from New Orleans, LA on 10/22/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've used the Bose Quiet Comfort 20 noise cancelling earbuds on two flights and in a noisy airport. The noise cancelling worked very well, making me considerably more comfortable than when I didn't use them. When plugged into my tablet for music, the sound was quite good. What I like most about the earbuds, however, is their size. They fit easily into my bag while taking up hardly any space. That was not the case when I used some large Sennheiser noise cancelling earphones. The Sennheiser's case took up a lot of room in the bag. Overall, I'm quite happy with the purchase.

Pros: size sound noise-cancelling

Having not used them in all applications up to now, I find them less then expected when it comes to noise cancelling & ease of use, with the control unit is too bulky does not help, especially when used with the iPhone7 having to use an adaptor.

Pros: At this time, the only pro is they free up holding a phone, which is no different that the earbuds that are standard with an iphone7

Cons: See review

Bose® QuietComfort® 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones

Crutchfield customer from Vienna, VA on 6/13/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the second set of noise cancelling earbuds I've bought, and these are much, much better. There are three earpieces included, and they not only fit perfectly, but they stay in my ears during vigorous exercise. The noise cancellation properties are excellent and the fidelity is fantastic. I would have given them 5-stars except that the package does not include an adaptor for the iPhone 7. At this price point Bose really should make the adaptor available for free. When I contacted the company they told me to buy it from Apple.

Over-priced, all considered !

Larry from Buffalo, NY on 4/2/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bose tradition of good products with high price tags continues here. A good sounding headphone with a flumsy cord and no user-changeable battery or cord ensures this will be in the trash can in a year or two. Other reviews indicate very weak customer support forcing expensive replacement or repair. I have other brands of headphones that are more durable, sound great, and have lasted already for many years. Bose coold have used customer replaceable cords like another company does or replaceable battery but they have never been customer-focused.

Pros: Good sound quality Excellent noise reduction Comfortable

Cons: Expensive Flimsy No user replaceable battery-->Limited life expectancy

Good product; still seems excessively expensive

Crutchfield customer from NC on 2/5/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been skeptical that these headphones could be worth the price. I could not try them in any local stores, so I stayed with the sound isolating in-ear headphones I've used for about a decade. I cannot tolerate over-ear headphones. Some on-ear headphones are comfortable, but they can't offer noise cancellation. I bought these when I could do so without risk. I've used them a few weeks; they have been very satisfactory. The noise cancellation is unbeatable. I've worn them around heavy street traffic and won't do that again, as I rely on hearing as much as sight to warn me of danger. During roughly 15 hours of flying they have been exceptional. The in-ear buds would eventually make my ear canal uncomfortable, not painful, so I would use them for a few hours then take them out for a while. The ear pieces of the Bose headphones seal over the ear canal with soft silicone rubber without entering it; I've only removed them when I wanted to not when I needed to. The seal at my right ear gradually loosens leaking some ambient noise; this tells me I haven't yet selected the right ear piece size. These are easy to replace and even the largest ones fit comfortably. Past reviews suggested flimsiness of the connections along the unit's wiring; this seems to haven beefed up, though only time will tell. To avoid strain on connections, I keep them in a slightly larger case than the one Bose provides. They still seem to have an exceptionally steep price mark-up; that's Bose's prerogative.

Pros: Noise reduction and comfort

Cons: Will they hold up?

Bose® QuietComfort® 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones

Crutchfield customer from Cheyenne, WY on 1/15/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These headphones work extremely well. The noise canceling seems as good as the over ear bose head phones that we own. There is a significant reduction in ambient sound. They are also extremely comfortable to wear. I hope that wireless model is made soon.

Fantastic. Get them. Honestly.

denis from Kalamazoo on 12/16/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fantastic. Get them. Honestly. The only drawback I can think of is that because they are so efficient you hear your own voice all muffled and it feels weird at first. But you get used to it.

Pros: they really are that good

Cons: expensive

Poorly made - stopped working

Joe from Los Angeles, CA on 12/9/2016

Stopped working after 1 1/2 years. I loved them up until then. For the price, they should last longer. I only used 1-3 times per month, kept in supplied case, and never abused them. Faulty wiring now creates a lot of static if you barely touch them.

Pros: compact, worked well...until they didn't

Cons: became staticky after only a year and a half of light, gentle use

Great Product

Phil M from RoslynGra, NY on 12/5/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I don't like the AE noice cancellation headphone that much. But the 20 Really changed my idea, it makes me feel nothing on my ears, and no noice coming in my ear! Great Bose product.

Dave from Richmond, VA on 10/24/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

One word: Awesome. Sound quality is great and the noise cancelling capability is phenomenal, cancels practically all the ambient noise.

Same great noise cancelling from Bose in a much more convenient size!

John from Chicago, IL on 9/29/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had these headphones for over a year now and I will say that they far exceeded my expectations. I've owned a pair of Bose Noise cancelling headphones for over 5 years and thought I couldn't travel without them. The one and only problem with my OLD Bose Headphones was the size. They just took up so much space in my carry-on. These QC20s solved the space size problem without sacrificing any quality. I absolutely love them and I have since bought 2 more (as gifts) and have given away my old Bose headphones (ear cans) to a friend. I would highly recommend. Though now that Apple has done away with the audio plug on their new phones, I might wait until Bose puts out a pair of lightening plug headphones.

Pros: noise canceling & size

Cons: The only con is the battery pack which sits very close to the plug and can get in the way. But I'm not sure how Bose can fix this.

Crutchfield customer from San Diego, CA on 9/27/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First charge, worked great, though died after only 2 hours. Tried to recharge and it wouldn't hold. Totally disappointed as this is not my experience with Bose quality. Retiring them for a refund.

Amazing Performance!

Crutchfield customer from Lincoln, CA on 9/19/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great fit, great sound and amazing noise canceling. The fact that theses don't wrap over your head like traditional headphones is a plus as well. Highly recommend if your looking for a noise cancel headphone, these warrant serious consideration.

Pros: Small size, incredible performance, outstanding noise cancelation, Bose quality

Cons: Pricey, but worth it!

Cons: None

Bose QuietComfort Headphones

Fabio from Norwalk, CA on 9/4/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Enjoyed the headphones, improvements to the earplugs will be excellent as pieces are to bulky to fit.

Pros: Headphones are very well build, easy to operate

Cons: Headphones are very well build, but cord is very heavy on side an not to flexible to maneuver

great noise canceling functions, good battery life

Boris K from New York on 6/29/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As the reputation states, these have the best noise cancelation for in ear headphones on the market. The battery is reliable.

Pros: Great noise cancelation, very good sound quality, particularly with cancelation on.

Cons: A bit of positive ear pressure when cancelation is on.

"Noise Cancelling"?

Used them on 2 transatlantic flights and was underwhelmed by their ability to cancel the airplane noise. For the price I expected a lot more.......

Truly exceptional

Rob G from Spokane, WA on 5/22/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First experience with noise cancellation, it does not disappoint. Well constructed, the built in amp, cancellations it is a bit bulky and would be nice if it was removable but this is a small thing.

Pros: Excellent sound cancellation and isolation. Great fit and comfort.

Cons: None.

Awesome quality

Crutchfield customer from Alpharetta, GA on 5/18/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These honestly surprised me. For in-ear headphones, the noise cancelling is second to none. The quality and reliability of Bose is incomparable. You will not regret purchasing these!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Finally had the courage to cough up the money to buy these. Worth every dollar! Great sound quality, amazing noise cancelling, and comfortable. I like the new design as well.

Cons: Not quite sure how to coil the wire so it doesn't kink, but only a small gripe.

As expected

Moke from New York, NY on 5/5/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Best all around, easy tobwear and keeps the trash out. Cool colors make the unit stand out.

Pros: Keeps idiots at bay

Cons: The battery pack. I hope it was somewhat modular meaning i can remove it.

Phantom Fixer from Waxahachie, TX on 4/26/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wow, far better than I'd hoped for. I've always been an over the ear headphone person. Turning these on truly Surprised me. Especially on the plane for 9 hours. My wife is seldom excited about ear buds was very impressed and started not to return them. If you're looking for the wow factor in sound and noise cancelling: these are for you. It blocks out about 90% of the plane noise on a 767. This made the trip much more pleasant. To all of my friends - get a pair!

Pros: Quality build and feel, comfortable, great sound and excellent noise cancelling.

Cons: NA, At this time.

Awesome product

Superb, you will not be disappointed

Viren P from Los Gatos, CA on 3/15/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been using my old Bose QC2 for over 10 years. Finally 2 years ago I switched to Beats because I received them as a Christmas Present and was really happy with them. I decided to give these QC20's a try, but was very skeptical. How could an in ear headphone cancel noise like an over ear set? Worst case, I try them and return them. I wore these from San Francisco to London, almost 10 hours straight. I was shocked over the noise cancelling ability and pure comfort. I will only be using these for my trips!! The Beats will be sold immediately. Bonus is they have a built in mic so they have officially replaced my standard issue white iPhone earbuds.

Pros: Superb comfort, extreme noise cancelling, very compact, light, and excellent battery life, easy over 10 hours on one charge.

Cons: None for me!

bose noise canceling ear buds

rj from Missouri on 12/27/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit performed as advertised. Would like to have more effort put in the cable connections to the battery and to the ear buds. They seem fragile. Providing several sizes of inserts for the ears was a good idea. They are a little pricy but they do work.

Pros: work as advertised. No question about it.

Cons: wiring looks fragile and with use could be a weak point.

And the winner is...

Dame41 from Michigan on 11/19/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these as a replacement to the previous model (QC20i). Exceptional sound quality from such a small headset! Noise reduction so amazing it's scary, I'll turn the feature on and next thing I know, the wife is tapping me asking me to remove them 'cause she's been talking to me and I haven't been responding. Also great for outdoors, I wear these when mowing my lawn & it muffles the mower to a quiet murmur. Cant go wrong with these!!

Pros: Great clarity, sound, bass carry case extra silicone tips

Cons: Battery pack - either you stuff it in your pocket with phone or leave it hanging out but it can be a nuisance at times Price- not sure why the new model increased by $50, I see no difference other than new colors and carrying case.

Great option

ProtectYourEars from California on 10/17/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love the small form factor. Excellent noise reduction. Seemed comparable to the over ear version when I tried in store, but didn't compare head to head while traveling. Would definitely recommend these, and I won't be traveling without them again!

Very Impressed so far

Dan R from Maryland on 10/12/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a pair of the Bose over the ear noise cancelling headphones for years and was happy with them, but they take up a lot of room and aren't so comfy if you try to sleep on the plane. Was skeptical that these would work as well since they are in ear, but wow. If anything, they work better. And they are so small, super easy to pack and wear. Only used them on one round trip flight so far but totally happy.

Pros: very small, easy to pack, work great.

Cons: none so far.

Best Headphones I have ever used

skiatd1 from New Hampshire on 9/11/2015

These are the best headphones I have ever used. I received mine as a birthday present (but purchased at crutchfield) this May (so I believe they are the previous version which seems minimally different). They are fantastic. First, they are extremely comfortable. I have had them in for extended periods (hours) and they don't hurt at all. My wife has ears that don't normally work well with in ear headphones and with the small silicon these fit her really well also. I use the medium silicon cover that they are perfect. They battery pack is small and normally I just put it back to back with my phone when I have it in my pocket and I barely notice it is there. The headphones do a great job of just reducing sound when they are off so that is mostly how I use them. I find the sound quality to be very good and crisp. I also have used them when listening to lectures with no music and they provide great clarity for that as well. Being able to use them with the noise canceling off is a really helpful feature which my wife's old Bose over-ear headphones don't provide so if you do lose battery power you still can listen to music (or if you don't want the noise canceling on). I have flown with these several times now as well and they make the experience so much better. I get on the plane, turn these on, and fall asleep. I can't believe I flew without these in the past. The active listening mode (or whatever they call it) that lets you decrease the noise canceling is great too

Pros: comfort, passive mode, slim design, battery life, noise canceling ability

Cons: price

Product Research

Overview: The Bose QuietComfort 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones feature proprietary Bose technologies to provide you with excellent sound quality, while shutting out the world around you. The QC20 in-ear headphones have an Apple-compatible in-line remote/microphone, a control module with a built-in rechargeable battery, and three pairs of ear tips. You can store them in the supplied zippered carrying case when not in use.

Apple Compatibility: The QC20's in-line remote/microphone is compatible with the following Apple products:

  • iPhone: 3GS through 6/6 Plus
  • iPod: touch (2nd through 5th generations), classic 120GB/160GB (2009), nano (4th through 7th generations), shuffle (3rd and 4th generation)
  • iPad: all models
  • MacBook: unibody and Pro

Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphone Technology: The patented Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphone technology in Bose QuietComfort 20 headphones provides full-spectrum noise reduction for a better audio experience. Microphones on the outside of the earbuds actively monitor what you hear, including unwanted outside sound. The difference between the unwanted sound and the desired sound is then electronically processed, creating a correction signal that acts to negate the unwanted noise. The speaker within each ear-cup is then fed the correction signal. This signal, combined with the passive noise reduction of the StayHear+ ear tips, dramatically reduces the outside distractions that reach your ears.

TriPort Technology: Bose proprietary TriPort technology allows the drivers of the QC20 headphones to create deep lows while keeping the headphones small and lightweight. TriPort technology, combined with Active EQ, give you lifelike sound for your music, videos, and phone calls.

StayHear+ Ear Tips: The Bose headphones come with StayHear+ silicone ear tips in three sizes (Small/Medium/Large) to help assure a more accurate and comfortable fit. The StayHear+ ear tips offer greater in-ear stability during exercise and other active sports. Advanced materials and design allow the tips to nestle inside the bowl of the ear, while also naturally conforming to the ear's upper ridge. The natural oblong cone shape of the ear tips provides a gentle seal that helps keep unwanted ambient noise out. StayHear+ ear tips also are designed to remain more securely on the headphone itself.

Aware Mode: The Aware Mode temporarily turns off the Active Noise Cancelling to allow you to hear ambient noise while continuing to listen to your music. Whether you're crossing the street, waiting on airline gate announcements, or just wanting to be more aware of your surroundings, you can engage the Aware Mode by pushing a button on the side of the in-line remote.

In-line Remote/Control Module: The QC20 gives you control over your headphones and your music. The 4-button in-line remote/microphone is compatible with Apple devices, and features volume up/down, answer/end call, voice commands, music/video functions, and Aware Mode. The microphone enables you to make phone calls and perform voice commands with your iPhone. The control module contains the rechargeable battery, and includes the power switch for Active Noise Cancelling and LED status indicators.

Rechargeable Battery: The QC20's Active Noise Cancelling is powered by a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery in the Control Module. The battery is charged with the supplied USB cable in approximately 2 hours. A fully-charged battery provides approximately 16 hours of battery life. Even if the battery is exhausted, you can still use the headphones without Active Noise Cancelling.

Clothing Clip: The included clothing clip help keep the headphones in place when you're on the move. Use the clothing clip to fasten the cable to your clothing, for convenience, stability, and to help manage the cable. This can be helpful during rigorous activities or when using the headphones in a single earpiece configuration.

Storage Case: The headphones come with a small carrying case that protects your headphones and cables when not in use. The case has a small mesh inside pocket for small items, and a zippered closure.
