Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Sound is nice. Took us a bit to get used to not grabbing dishes in all corners but it's comparable to older multuspeaker surround sound setups.
From Yamaha: YAS-706 Soundbar with MusicCast
Yamaha YAS-706 - Easily control your MusicCast multi-room system with free app for your phone or tablet
Yamaha YAS-706 - Subwoofer connects wirelessly for flexible placement (must be plugged into an AC outlet)
The solid, high-powered Yamaha YAS-706 sound bar can cut through the acoustic challenges of an open floor setup.
I can't exactly call the Yamaha YAS-706 a "music-first" sound bar — it does offer 4K TV connections and simulated 7.1 surround sound, after all. But those of us who use a sound bar for both TV watching and for listening to tunes will appreciate this punchy, powerful system. Yamaha's substantial driver array delivers dynamic, full-range sound for your favorite songs, shows, and movies.
And the explosive subwoofer hits as hard for a funky bass line as it does for a thrilling car chase. The sub communicates with the bar wirelessly to give you some placement flexibility.
Another reason I recommend this bar for music? Yamaha's MusicCast streaming technology is built-in. This wireless system puts your entire library of digital tunes at your fingertips — including high-res downloads and streaming services like Spotify. It also offers flexible options for expanding into other rooms with additional MusicCast components and speakers.
It all starts with the free app, available for Apple® and Android™. It's my favorite multi-room app at the moment, thanks to its intuitive layout and feel. User-friendly graphics make it easy to select rooms, pick music services, and adjust volume. You can even substitute your own images to make the menu more personal.
Built-in two-way Bluetooth lets you stream audio from any app on your phone through the MusicCast system. You can also send audio from the sound bar to other Bluetooth-enabled audio players, like wireless headphones — convenient when you're watching late night movies or ballgames.
Sound is nice. Took us a bit to get used to not grabbing dishes in all corners but it's comparable to older multuspeaker surround sound setups.

Sound is nice. Took us a bit to get used to not grabbing dishes in all corners but it's comparable to older multuspeaker surround sound setups.
Overall, a great sound bar. It was easy to set up, and easy to use. The sound is very good overall. Not the best I've ever heard, but definitely one of the better sound bars I've had the chance to work with.
I have only had it for a few weeks but I am totally satisfied. The Bluetooth option works great utilizing my phone but the best is when you start hearing the sound bar and sub-woofer all come together on a good movie. For the price I paid there was no other comparable unit. The best thing was the customer service I received from the techs to help me get the system working. I don't even shop other electronics outlets anymore. Crutchfield will receive all my future business. For nothing more than edification, I had purchased a Bose system from Best Buy, at a considerable amount more and the Geek Squad was unable to get it up and running. They actually left my residence failing to finish the job and never got back to me on a follow up. It went back. Lucky me, I saved over a thousand dollars and this system works, thanks to the techs.
Pros: Great sound, great price but best of all the customer service.
Cons: None at this time.
This was purchased for a Christmas present, so it's still in it's box. I gave it a 5 star rating because this will be the sixth purchase of Yamaha products in the past 12 months, as we have been slowly upgrading our entire home stereo system really taking advantage of MusicCast and I have been quite happy with all of them. One of the purchases was the YAS-108 for my daughter's TV that sounds wonderful so I am expecting this will be an even better audio experience.
Didn't know what to expect as it's my first sound bar. Easy to hook up sounds clear with great clarity. Bass is sold but not boomy.
Pros: Wireless sub great sound
Cons: Optional sub output shut wireless sub off. So you can only use one or the other
After endless research we decided to but this, and it was great value for the money. Easy to install and operate. Great sound, very pretty design , well packed.
Pros: Great Sound and Sharp Quality. Well Packet and fast delivery.
Cons: None at this point.
Great sound. Movie Theater quality.
Was recommended by advisor when on significant closeout sale. Easy setup and good sound quality, bass is present (you can dial it down and hear it go away) but is mild at best - makes the sound rich but doesn't hit hard on action movies. Haven't explored Musiccast yet but works well as a 'dumb' bar.
Pros: Balanced sound across a range of genres and TV - better than built in speakers
Cons: Small subwoofer rounds out sound nicely but isn't powerfull.
I you want a holographic soundfield which is crystal clear, this is the solution. The 2 HDMI in and one HDMI out is exactly what I needed. DVR in, Blu-ray in, out to display. Could not be more pleased.
It's an OK soundbar. Yamaha claims virtual surround sound 7.1, it's not even close to 3.1. Subwoofer is ok for movies. Where I think it does best is with music. I wonder if Yamaha would consider upgrading this device via firmware to support also MusiCast surround, more then likely not because it's discontinued. The good part is Musiccast and support for 4K HDR passthrough, streaming services and bluetooth.
Pros: 4K passthrough, HDMI ARC, DTS-HD MA decoding
Cons: Sounds more like an overpriced stereo then virtual surround
So far I am very impressed with the overall performance of the soundbar. I read so many posts saying that the Subwoofer lacks in output, but I am not buying this soundbar to rock the whole house. The sub meshes well with the soundbar and provides a very clear crisp bass channel. If you are looking for a good clear soundbar to add superb sound to your room this bar is excellent. If you are wanting something to rock your house at parties and blast music with big booming bass this is not for you.
Pros: Very clear sound. Good surround Excellent features (4k ready, ARC HDMI, )
Cons: The packaging is rather large, so don't expect to get this in a small car The box is pretty cumbersome Price wise its a little pricey, I caught it on-sale
Excellent product. Easy setup and works as advertised.
Pros: Cutting edge. Wireless bass unit and exemplary sound projection.
Cons: Only two hdmi inputs sources.
Simple elegant design, sits on a white credenza and disappears. The sub is wide but not overly large. The sound is better than I was getting from a 5 speaker Samsung with wireless back speakers. The best thing is it has 2 HDMI inputs instead of one, so the Roku can be patched through the sound bar. I use it with my phone for music, which is way better than something portable. My only issue is I had to add a digital optical sound cable behind the wall, since my TV did not have a new enough HDMI. But it is a plasma, and I am living as long as I can with it.
Pros: Sound, design
Cons: need for digital optical sound cable
At the sale price, it sounds way better than anything else I have heard.
Pros: Sale price Sub Easy to install
excellent buy for 400 highest volume clear as anything sounds like HD at high volumes the only problem is was that this item is discontinued and hard to get other assecessories for
Pros: excellent sound , many optins
Great product at a great price. Despite my initial concerns, had zero problems setting this system up. Glad I looked into the detail description link to get the hint on ensuring I set up the ARC set up properly (my Sharp TV doesn't have a designated HDMI so had to go on the inter-webbie to find out that it could be #1 or even #2). Regardless, am VERY happy and impressed with this!
Pros: Very easy setup. And was easy on the wallet.
Cons: It would be nice if the system could somehow give an visual indication of the volume level. Right now I have to wait until wife yells at me to turn it down. :-)
This is the first sound bar I have ever owned. I think the sound is great. It connected to my TV easily and I can turn it on/off and control the volume from my cable box remote. I also like that it sounds great when I am streaming music through it.
The sound is amazing, deep and crisp!
You can always count on Yamaha to perform this product is no exception. The Bass is good not great but good the clarity of the whole product together is exceptional compared to all in this price range and better than most in the higher levels. Overall a great investment and improvement over TV spearkers.
Pros: Great sounds
Cons: Needs slight improvement on the Sub
Great sounding . Easy set up. Better than expected. My buddy has a Bose Soundbar and it doesn't sound as clear as this yamaha.
Sound quality is great and sub puts out good bass level considering it's size. Wireless setup is easy and works flawlessly.
Since we already are using and happy with the MusicCast product line, the Yamaha YAS706 was an easy choice especially at the price. Easy and seamless set up. I do wish the configuration of the power cord had been better designed especially if mounting the unit on the wall. We found right angle HDMI adapters which will help to keep the HDMI cables out of sight when the unit is wall mounted.
Pros: Connectivity with current MusicCast system-products Set up
Great soundbar. Good range of frequencies from the bar itself, clear dialog mode works great. My only gripe is it comes with a sissy subwoofer.
Pros: Excellent unit for a bedroom TV. Clear dialog.
Cons: Not loud enough. Let's you down for playing music. Sissy subwoofer.
It completely stopped working 2 weeks after we got it. It wont power up at all.
Cons:Crutchfield response on 10/2/2018 : Once we saw this review, our Tech Support guru, AJ, reached out to this customer to help him further. We'll either help him get the sound bar working the way it should, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.
Great sound Easy to set up
Overall this is a pretty good product for TV and movie viewing. It can definitely make a lot of sound but when it comes to precise quality accurate music listening it comes across as blended or clouded. On the other hand one other feature that I do give it high marks for is the clear voice which is definitely needed for older ears.
Sounds great!!!! Better then expected
Excellent product. Huge sound stage. Watching college football makes you feel like you're at the stadium. The simulated surround sound feature is okay, but don't disregard this system because of it. The sound quality is what makes this system stand out. Add in the wireless subwoofer and this is more than enough rumble for a decent size living room or apartment. At the discounted price I got it for, it was a great deal. Sports and movies come alive.
Pros: Sound quality, features, price paid
Cons: Simulated surround sound is average.
It is loud, has decent bass and definitely sounds better than the tv speakers. The reason I rated it a 3 is because it just dont have that wow factor going on. The sound is just plain, no surround sound at all. I think the price was a little high for what I got. In my opinion this is a 250$ sound bar.
Pros: Sounds better than what I had. Easy to set up.
Cons: No wow factor, not good sound waves, to exspensive for what I got.
The Yamaha YAS-706 is a high quality product that is easy to set up and has a great sound, and Crutchfield made it easy to choose and purchase with all the information they provide on all their products. Great service and prices !
Cons: None so far
Product does what I was looking for and Sales staff directed me to achieve what I wanted without spending more than I needed too Great product and great service Thanks Eddie
I tried 2 single bar models without satisfaction. For my ear, the base separate base is critical. Yes-706 fits.
The YAS-706 is a nice soundbar for the special price offering since this model is going away. It wouldn't be worth the normal cost. It sounds better than most for music listening. The bass adjustment is nice but even at the max the bass doesn't hit very hard. I would like to know if it was actually designed for wall mount or table top. When the unit is placed on the TV stand most of it's speakers are facing upward so the sound is not projected directly to you. My son sure likes the soundbar when he is playing video games.
Pros: Nice for music and games
Cons: Under powered sub
Sounds great, looks good and the price is right. Only complaint is that whenever you turn off the tv and turn it on again the input on the bar has to be changed back to the hdmi. Not sure if there's a fox, haven't had time yet to look into it.
Pros: Easy setup Solid and deep sound Bass is right, not overwhelming
Cons: Bar isn't left on the input turned off on.
This Yas706 soundbar has amazing sound quality. The setting to increase the voice is really helpful. The bass is deep and clean and not overbearing.
Great soundbar for the price. My mother in law is happy with it and so are my kids. My kids use it to play pandora and Netflix all the time. It's gives you a sense of greater soundstage and openness, but don't expect a surround effect as the one you get with a receiver and speakers. It's more musical than others bars I have heard before. Great bar but keep it real in your expectations!
Pros: Sound, HDMI switching.
Best surround sound I have owned. Very clear sound and many options. The musiccast option that is built into this unit is perfect for me because I listen to music very often. Easy to install. Easy to use and I don't have a bunch a f wires cluttering up my living space. I am very pleased with this product.
Sound bar sounds very good for what it is. I bought it mainly because it has a subwoofer pre-out so you can use an existing powered sub. That feature is usually a lot more expensive as it exist mainly in higher end sound bars. I only wish it had a better volume level read out with actual digits.
Pros: Subwoofer pre-out for existing powered subs Great sound for the money TV, movie and music presets really change he texture of the sound.
Cons: Volume level indicator is inscrutable Doesn't put out rock concert level sound for the room but it is adequate Can't use wireless and wired sub simultaneously
I'd say this product is well defined by the saying "Good, not great". Sound quality is average, and as other reviews note the subwoofer is very underpowered. The wireless integration was extremely easy to get running, but has had a few issues requiring re-setup. Much easier than Play-Fi on Definitive Tech's app. For our space (larger vaulted room), it is an improvement over a TV speaker but in no way fills the room. We downgraded from receiver-driven speakers to a soundbar for wall mounting purposes, and definitely noticed the reduction. Comparatively there is more mid-range tones than the Definitive Tech Studio Micro we trialed, but the high-end lacks presence and the sub is poor. Also when pairing with another Yamaha MusicCast speaker, the lag between can be pretty noticeable. FYI you can't assign other MusicCast speakers to function on surround channels, just a stereo feed. Overall its a solid unit for general use. But it definitely compromises a few things, and I may have decided to go a different route if known.
Pros: Easy setup, overall consistent use. Has dedicated remote. Lot's of connection options.
Cons: Sound quality is par at best, and doesn't fill a large space well. Subwoofer far too small/underpowered, not tight/dynamic, even for TV watching.
I have owned three sound bars, and this one broadcasts treble, midrange and bass much further across a room than anything I have encountered previously. The sound is warm and balanced. It is connected via HDMI to a Oppo bluray player, as well as to a Yamaha amp via analog inputs. I am extremely happy with this purchase.
Pros: Excellent acoustic range in a medium sized living room. Amazing amount of inputs!
Cons: Subwoofer, while acceptable, is somewhat subpar. The cloth mesh screen is prone to damage, and the output needs to be cranked up all the way to 100%. Position this subwoofer in a corner and allow the walls to help out.
Being a MusicCast user already, installation & set-up was simple. Great bass, sound programs and Clear Voice options not dramatic but do work. Sound Bar can be used as stand alone unit or with Yamaha MusicCast receiver for use with internet music services. TV & cable box remotes works volume, but only after turning on sound bar via dedicated remote or on/off switch. Good overall sound and improvement over TV speakers. As with other MusicCast products the sound bar can be operated via a smartphone including remotely turning on/off and sync with other speakers from one source.
Pros: MusicCast Integration & set-up
Cons: Clear Voice option could be better
I can only review this for music and radio. I very much like the MusicCast system and this is my 4th room. I have the unit mounted on my wall in my master bedroom that is about 20x20ft. The sound is great. It is obviously not an audiophile 2 speaker system but as far as room filling, clear sound it has fulfilled my expectations. My only complaint is a 5 second bluetooth delay from my Peloton bicycle. I can't figure it out. All of my other devices work through Airplay and there is no delay. Anyhow, for the new (lower) price I would recommend.
This sounbad and sub are replacing a full yahama/Bose surround system. I am not disappointed rather surprised at the quality of music. Movies and tv are fine but to me it's music where this system really proves itself. The musiccast app is a little finicky at times but does work. I look forward to adding more speakers to it in the future.
Pros: Wireless sub, great for music
Cons: Musically app connection can be spotty
This sound bar rocks. those with bad out of the box units when they first were shipped had them replaced. I'm an installer of these Music Casts products. I know first hand, they pack the power and connectivity to rival any other sound bar. HDMI ARC, included subwoofer, full surround sound, expandable whole home audio, wall mountable and Music Cast app (which gets better with every update). Hands down, 706 is better then Bose, Sonos, and the like. Those who rate this poorly will have a room simply to large for any sound bar to work well and it not being configured correctly.
Pros: HDMI ARC, included subwoofer, full surround sound, expandable whole home audio, wall mountable and Music Cast app (which gets better with every update).
Cons: You need the tiny remote for setup. Don't lose it.
Great for a smaller room
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Music Cast doesn't seem to work to well
Great sound. Simple setup. Easy to use. I wish it was a little louder for when we really want to rock out, but it is pretty loud for a sound bar. I am very pleased with it.
Pros: Easy set up. Very clean sound with full range of sound.
Don't buy until you read... I have had two YAS-706s and two speakers (wx-010 and wx-030) fail in 5 months. The original YAS-706's ARC HDMI, which communicates with the tv, failed soon after I got it. Crutchfield customer support was great and replaced it. I was also having frequent dropouts in the wx-010 and wx-030, which we thought were related to the original bad soundbar or a weak WiFi signal. I replaced my router with a high quality Linksys. The problem persisted with the new soundbar. All this (back and forth on the phone, testing, shipping, configuring etc) took a long time and I was exceeding the generous Crutchfield return limit. So, I began talking to Yamaha tech support. It took almost 3 more weeks to get to high level Yamaha support. It wasn't easy to get to them, but they were quite good. They agreed that the problem was that both speakers were defective. (ie they were bad out of the box! ) They sent me two new ones, which took 3 ½ more weeks. Finally, the system worked great... for 4 weeks. Then, this Saturday the second 706 soundbar failed. The amplifier is dead. I'll call Yamaha tomorrow. If I'm lucky I'll have a new soundbar in a month. At this point I've had 4 months of aggravation and one month of sound, and now another failure. Yamaha has a serious problem with this product. This experience had been miserable. Crutchfield might want to reconsider carrying this product.
Pros: Great sound, when it works. Nice design. Good smartphone app
Cons: wx-010 and wx-030 were defective out of the box. YAS-706 had failed twice. Yamaha support hard to reach.
The Yamaha YAS-706 is a very good soundbar. Reasonably easy to set-up and use as long as you utilize the MusicCast App which is a little "clunky" to navigate through and doesn't give you as high a quality overall sound and fine tuning control. However, you're much better served by controlling the soundbar directly from your music service accounts (Napster, Sirius, Pandora, etc...). Straight BT streaming is very straight forward with any Android based device that I have used, Apple and Samsung tablets require you to alter some settings within the soundbar set-up menu, which also requires you to have the soundbar connected to your TV to access the GUI. Not a big deal, but an unnecessary set of steps has to be initiated in order to allow sharing of these devices. Once you dial in the sound to your liking via your device controls and circumvent the MusicCast app entirely you can really bring the bar to life. All in all a really good sound bar, great bass , midrange, and high range sound. Not sure that it is worth the money, but I'm pleased with my choice and would recommend to others.
Pros: High Quality sound (Once you manually calibrate and circumvent the MusicCast App) Nice style and design. Seems very well built. a lot of very flexible connection options.
Cons: MusicCast App is completely unnecessary and limiting in function, features, and sound quality.

Active Soundbar: Employing eight speaker drivers (four 0.75" tweeters, two 2.125" midrange drivers, & two 3" bass woofers), plus two bass reflex ports, the active soundbar delivers immersive and well-balanced sound. The soundbar features separate built-in amps (210W total) for the high, mid, and low frequency drivers. These dedicated amps reduce interference, allowing the sound bar to produce exceptionally clear sound.
Wireless Powered Sub: The included wireless powered sub works with the soundbar's built-in woofers to produce remarkably rich, deep bass. The wireless powered sub's front-firing 5.5" cone woofer and built-in 75W amplifier delivers powerful, high-quality bass sound. You can adjust the volume level of the powered sub independently from the soundbar speaker system's overall volume level. The wireless powered sub eliminates the need to connect cables, so setup and placement are faster and easier (AC power cord connection is still required).
Note: The soundbar also features a mono-RCA sub output if you choose to connect the included powered subwoofer with an optional subwoofer cable (sold separately), instead of wirelessly.
Air Surround Xtreme: Yamaha's exclusive Air Surround Xtreme technology reproduces virtual 7.1-channel surround sound with excellent imaging and rich presence far superior to many other virtual surround technologies. You'll experience an extremely realistic and impressive soundfield with clear dialog in the front and dynamic sound action effects from behind.
HD Audio Decoding: The YAS-706 decodes HD Audio signals to ensure that you hear the best possible sound from Blu-ray Disc players, as well as from all other digital audio sources. It offers HDMI (2 in/1 out), digital (1 optical in/1 coaxial in), and analog (stereo RCA) connectivity. The YAS-706 supports the following digital audio formats.
Digital Audio Connector Audio Signal Type Audio Signal Format HDMI 2Ch Linear PCM 2ch, 32-192kHz, 16/20/24-bit Multichannel Linear PCM 8ch, 32-192kHz, 16/20/24-bit Bitstream Dolby Digital, DTS High Definition Audio Bitstream Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution, DTS Express Optical/Coaxial 2Ch Linear PCM 2ch, 32-96kHz, 16/20/24-bit Bitstream Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS, DTS ES,
- Because with many TVs, the ARC-enabled HDMI input will only pass 2ch PCM from devices connected to the TV via HDMI or analog, we recommend that you connect your Blu-ray player, Satellite/Cable box, or Game system to the Yamaha soundbar directly; and then connect the YAS-706's ARC-enabled HDMI output to your TV's ARC-enabled HDMI input. This setup will give you with the best overall sound performance.
- The digital optical output terminals of many flat-panel TVs only send an audio signal in 5.1ch when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from the TV's built-in tuner, network connection, or connected USB device; and will output only 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via HDMI, or RCA (like your Blue-ray/DVD player or satellite/cable box).
5 Sound Programs: The YAS-706 offers a choice of five sound programs that enhance different types of content to give you a greater sense of enjoyment. Choose from Music, Movie, TV Program, Sports, or Game.
Clear Voice: Human voices, such as dialog in TV shows and movies, news, and sports commentary are played back with extra clarity. This technology enhances the acoustic characteristics of speech and increases the perceived volume level, while still maintaining the quality of the soundtrack's background sound & effects.
Compressed Music Enhancer: The Compressed Music Enhancer restores frequency response lost during digital compression, so your music sounds the way it should. It is optimized for Bluetooth audio transmission for vivid, lively sound quality during wireless playback. The function engages automatically when a compressed source is played.
Dynamic Range: This feature adjusts the system's dynamic range (difference between maximum and minimum volumes). Choose from Min/Auto, Standard, or Max (default).
ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible TV to the soundbar speaker system through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your TV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.
HDMI 2.0a: The Yamaha YAS-706's soundbar is fitted with two HDMI inputs and one ARC-enabled HDMI output. The HDMI jacks support the latest HDMI 2.0a standards.
4K/60Hz Pass-Through: The YAS-706 supports up to 4K (3840x2160 pixels) video @ 60 frames per second on all of its HDMI inputs and output. It will also pass a 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p video signal.
HDCP 2.2 Compatible: All of the soundbar speaker system's HDMI inputs and output support HDCP 2.2, which fully complies with the latest copyright protection standard for 4K video transmission.
4:4:4 Color Subsampling: The YAS-706's HDMI jacks also support RGB, YCbCr 4:4:4, YCbCr 4:2:2, and YCbCr 4:2:0 color subsampling (@ 60Hz or 50Hz). With 4:4:4 color subsampling, luminance (brightness) and chroma (color) are sampled at the same rate; resulting in an RGB color palette as big as the video sampling rate for a video image with more colors, plus greater color accuracy and detail. When playing 4K video select Mode 1 or Mode 2 according the the video signal format.
Note: When Mode 1 is select, use a high-speed HDMI cable that supports bandwidth of 18 Gbps or better.
HDR (High Dynamic Range) Video): HDR (High Dynamic Range) video provides enhanced picture quality by simultaneously enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image. HDR reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, creating greater contrast. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. The 4K Video Mode should be set to Mode 1.
x.v.Color: The Yamaha YAS-706 soundbar speaker system supports x.v.Color, offering a wider color range than the current broadcast standard. For the x.v.Color feature to be useful, the entire video production chain must be compatible (camera-editing-format-player-display).
Deep Color: The YAS-706 also supports Deep Color which allows the color depth of video signals passing through HDMI to be raised. The number of colors that could be expressed by 1 pixel was 24 bits (16,777,216 colors) with a standard HDMI jack. However, the number of colors which can be expressed by 1 pixel is 36 bits with a Deep Color enabled HDMI jack. Since the gradation of the depth of a color can be expressed more finely with more bits, continuous color changes can be more smoothly expressed.
3D Ready: The Yamaha soundbar speaker system's HDMI connectivity supports 3D video pass-through (720p/1080p only) from connected 3D-compatible Blu-ray, games and broadcast devices to 3D-compatible HDTVs (all 3D components must be connected via HDMI). Special eyewear will be required for viewing 3D content.
Auto Lip-Sync: The soundbar speaker system automatically adjusts the delay in output timing between video signals and audio signals so they match when you are watching a movie. You can also manually adjust the audio delay between 0 to 500 ms.
MusicCast: The Yamaha YAS-706 is part of Yamaha's MusicCast multiroom audio eco-system. MusicCast from Yamaha, brings music to every room in your home wirelessly with control provided by a free app on your Apple iOS or Android device. Designed to easily work with your existing home WiFi network, MusicCast offers access to a huge range of audio content. This content includes select online music services, Internet radio, digital music libraries, and Bluetooth audio; as well as connected external sources such as TVs, cable/satellite boxes, Blu-ray/DVD Disc players, and CD/SACD players. MusicCast can even select terrestrial AM/FM radio stations for playback throughout the home when linked to a tuner-enabled MusicCast device (like an AV receiver). MusicCast is enabled on many 2015-up Yamaha components like this soundbar speaker system, plus their AV receivers, wireless speakers, and other HiFi components.
Note: Yamaha's new MusicCast system is not compatible with Yamaha's old MusicCAST system.
Multiroom Audio: Start with the Yamaha YAS-706 system in your living room or bedroom and add other MusicCast products from Yamaha (like wireless speakers, AV receiver, and HiFi systems ) over time to create a multiroom audio, whole-house experience. Up to 10 MusicCast devices can be connected.
Wired or Wireless Network Connection: The Yamaha MusicCast YAS-706 supports both WiFi (802.11 b/g/n; 2.4GHz) and wired Ethernet (RJ-45) connections, so you can choose to build a wireless or wired network, or a combination of both if desired. Network setup is completed through the free MusicCast app on your compatible Apple iOS or Android device.
Note: If you want to install a MusicCast device to a location that is out of range of your wireless router, connect another MusicCast device to the router with a network cable to extend the range ("Extend Mode").
MusicCast App: The free MusicCast app can be downloaded for Apple (iOS 7.1+) iPod/iPhone/iPad and Android (OS4.1+) smartphones/tablets. The MusicCast app puts control of your whole home listening experience in the palm of your hand from your Apple iOS or Android device. You'll be able to quickly select the room or rooms you want to listen to music in, select the source or sources you want to listen to, browse music content from your music library and online music services or Internet Radio, plus control music playback functions.
High Resolution Audio: The Yamaha YAS-706 supports true high-resolution audio formats to deliver more accurate reproduction of sonic details. The soundbar speaker system is compatible with Apple Lossless (ALAC) up to 96kHz/24-bit, as well as FLAC and WAV music files up to 192kHz/24-bit. AirPlay: AirPlay lets you stream your favorite songs directly from your Apple iOS (4.3.3+) device or from your iTunes (10.2.2+) library on your Windows PC or Mac computer to the Yamaha MusicCast YAS-706 system, over your home's WiFi network connection. From your Apple iOS device you are able to stream stored music and music apps on your device to the Yamaha MusicCast speaker. From your Windows or Mac you can stream your stored iTunes music library on your computer to the MusicCast speaker.
Note: AirPlay is not available for multiroom audio playback.
DLNA: The MusicCast YAS-706 system supports DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) 1.5, allowing access to DLNA-compatible Windows 7/8 computers (with Windows Media Player 11 or later) and network attached storage (NAS) devices. You'll be able to wirelessly stream the music libraries on your computer, laptop, or NAS to the Yamaha MusicCast speaker system.
Note: Digital Rights Management (DRM) content cannot be played back.
Bluetooth Audio: The Yamaha MusicCast YAS-706 offers built-in Bluetooth (v.2.1+EDR) for wireless music streaming & control. This allows you to stream stored music and music apps on your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Windows Phone/PC, Mac computer/laptop, and more to the soundbar speaker system. In addition to support for the standard SBC Bluetooth audio codec, the YAS-706 offers support of AAC. By supporting AAC, the soundbar speaker system offers better audio performance of the music streamed from your Apple iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
IR Remote: The YAS-706 comes with an IR remote control for wireless operation of the soundbar speaker system. The remote is not programmable and your TV's remote cannot be programmed to control the YAS-706. However, the system does offer HDMI control (see below).
HDMI Control: You can also use your TV's remote control to operate this system, if your television supports the HDMI control function and is connected to the soundbar speaker system's HDMI output. The soundbar speaker system will automatically select the input according to the input source setting on your TV. You will also be able to turn on/off the soundbar speaker system with your television.
OSD (On-Screen Display): A convenient on-screen display provides menu setup and audio adjustments. On-screen menu text can set to English, French, or Spanish.
Alexa Compatible (Firmware Update Required): Alexa-enabled devices (including the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Tap and Echo Show) will soon be able to control key functions of a MusicCast system using voice commands. A firmware update (available sometime in October), will be available for download that allows key functions of MusicCast products to be controlled using your voice through Alexa-enabled devices (sold separately).
Note: You will need an Alexa-enabled device (Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Tap, or Echo Show - all sold separately) to operate certain functions of your MusicCast products via voice-command. The MusicCast components and the Alexa-enabled devices must be on the same network.
Auto Power Standby: Enabling the Auto Power Standby function prevents the system from remaining on when not in use. The system will automatically turn off if there is no operation for 8 hours, or there is no audio input signal and no operation for 20 minutes.
Firmware Updates: New firmware updates that provide additional features or product improvements will be released by Yamaha in the future. If the soundbar speaker system is connected to the Internet, you can download the firmware via the network and update it. If the soundbar speaker system is not connected to the Internet, you can download the latest firmware update from the Yamaha Website to a USB thumbdrive, which can then be used to update the speaker's firmware.
Tabletop or Wall-Mount The Soundbar: At only 2.8125" tall, the soundbar fits neatly in front of most TVs or can be placed on the shelf of a TV stand. Its flexible orientation and built-in keyholes make it easy to wall-mount with a sleek look that perfectly complements almost any flat-panel TV. Sound equalization is automatically adjusted for tabletop or wall mount orientation.
Flexible Placement for Wireless Sub: The wireless powered subwoofer eliminates the need to connect cables, so setup and placement are faster and easier. You will still need to connect the powered sub's power cord to an AC outlet. The wireless sub can be positioned almost anywhere in the room (up to 50'). For best performance, it should be placed on the same wall as the soundbar.
