Installed one speaker in my Ford Ranger and used the balance control to switch between the JVC and the original factory speaker. After repeated switching back and forth, I found that the factory speaker had much better bass and midrange, in fact, tonal separation and depth of instruments was much better than the JVC. As others have noted, they need to be pushed to frequency extremes to get better sound and then it still sounds flat. I returned the speakers.

Pros:

Cons: Flat sound, poor bass and midrange.

Be Careful When Connecting Speaker Wires

Crutchfield customer from New Smyrna, FL on 4/19/2018

1996 Ford F Series

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These speakers are nice...a big improvement over the 21 year old OEM speakers in my 1996 Ford F-250. I would have given them 5 stars except the speaker wire connectors on them are like butter. Cheap. I barely pressed the female speaker wire connector on and the mounting board snapped. PITB. Then when attaching the second speaker wire the male connector on the speaker bent 120 degrees...again...I was now being especially gentle because of what occurred on the other connector. Gingerly bent it back and used some connector lube and took a couple of minutes to slooooooowly press it on. Ended up beefing the mount for the wires as returning was just aggravating. Use a connector lube and go slow. Used extreme care when hooking up the CS-DR620's up front and had no issues. Other than the cheesy mount and soft connectors...the speakers sound great.

Keith from Hawaii on 3/12/2018

2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara

Relatively good sound. Barely enough bass from the set, you will need a sub-woofer if you want any bottom end. It's great for talk shows and audio books. Clarity is pretty good. It seemed to get a little edgy at higher volumes, but it could have been just because of the lack of an amp to drive them.

Pros: Good mid-range and small size

Cons: Total lack of bass

I was looking for 4 factory replacement speakers. These got good reviews and came with a deal so i pulled the trigger. For me these sound fantastic, I know this is a subjective topic.... I am very happy. They fit with the suggested mounting hardware and feel good quality. For the price I have to give them 5*

Pros: 1. Sound great (to me) 2. Look to be quality constructed (to my eyes anyway) 3. Easy to install 4. Price to value rating for me is very high

Very aesthetically appealing to the eye especially since you can see them on the sound bar in my 1996 jeep. The bad part is I received one speaker that sounds like its about to blow out.

Pros: Very nice pair of speakers. Look great on sound pillar in my jeep. Sound better than the Infinity stock speakers

Cons: Unfortunately one of my speakers sounds distorted and sounds like its about to blow out. I'm going to return it soon. Other than that the other speaker sounds just fine.

speakers were easy to install, grills look great though I didn't use them since the grills in car are larger. Sounds great even without an amp. Great sound at a very reasonable price.

Pros: inexpensive, great sound, easy to install with wiring kit to fit harness in my vehicle

Cons: none

You Get What You Pay For

I take responsibility for the [medium] Satisfaction Level for these speakers. I went "Economical", and for that tier, these are a Great Buy. But, if you have Any experience with [true] Fidelity, these are a miss, and should be expected to be so. They lack 'warmth'. I buy audio based upon Specs too often, and this is another example. On Paper, they should be phenomenal, but, in reality ... they are Acceptable. Lacking real Clarity in highs, very good in mid range. So, if I had a very limited Budget, these would be just Fine. If I wanted to save a little longer, and get some with real Fidelity [Clarity], I would get some higher-end speakers. Remember, Great speakers can make even the poorest head unit / amp sound Better. Poor speakers can also do the inverse ... make a great head unit / amp sound Bad. My advice to those who may have fewer [decades] of experience in Audio, put your money in Speakers as the top priority if you want Clean, Clear, Crisp sound. If you are building a [Zero Fidelity] "Thumping Machine", make your speakers from paper plates, it'll sound the same regardless ... like mud. As a General Reference Tool recommendation, I avoid Any speaker with foam surrounds. They will not last. Not too much experience

Pros: Value, Value, Value Specs - decent Performance Indicator

Cons: My expectations were a bit too high. Upper range [highs] not as clean as hoped. You get what you pay for .... Usually.

My Jeep sounded like the speakers were blown from the day I got it. I put the new speakers in with ease thanks to Crutchfield's easy directions. What a difference when we turned on the radio. We had bass, treble and a lot more clarity. Amazing compared to the factory speakers that were in there.

Pros: Easy to install. Sound is excellent.

Bought 4 to replace factory speakers in my Mothers Ford Freestar. The sound qulaity improved 100%. We can now hear bases that we could not with factory speakers. Had a installer do the installations had it done in less than an hour and even gave us a discount because he did not have to make or add any connections to hook them up. Crutchfield included everything he needed. Would definately recommend these for Factory upgrade or just to improve or add to an existing system.

Pros: Very nice tones. Highs are good and base is perfect for the mini-van it was installed in The extras are the an added incentive to buying and installing as well.

Cons: NONE

Sounds great but fits a little sloppy

Crutchfield customer from Shreveport LA on 5/13/2016

1992 Dodge Dakota

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

For the money these speakers sound great, and they fit as advertised, barely. They are a bit small at the mounting points so they have to be half on one screw, half on another or one won't engage at all and the speaker will fall out on a 1992 Dakota front door application. Can't say the same for other vehicles. As for sound I don't think you can go wrong for the money. These aren't Focal or JL but they do the job very well as long as your expectations are reasonable.

Pros: Great price Very good sound Attractive grille

Cons: Sloppy fit in a 92 Dakota front door but still work, not the speakers fault!

I put these speakers in the rear deck of my coupe. They went in nicely but the installation could have gone smoother if I had read the instal instructions a little more thoroughly.

Pros: Went in as they should have. Nice and neat.

Cons: Wasn't to Impressed with how they were packaged. The box was all beat up and taped with scotch tape. And there was three other items in the same box that were not damaged. Now I can't complain to much because I only paid half for one of the set of speakers, but I wasn't expecting them to be an "open box" set.

Nice speakers for the money, even better when they're discounted with purchase of JVC head unit! Sound quailty has gone up exponentially since putting these in together with Kicker 6.75's in 2002 Kia Optima.

Pros: Direct fitment made install very easy. Nice upgrade in sound quality from factory speakers.

Customer Q&A

4 questions already asked

Q
I don't understand this. Replacing the 1- or 2-ohm factory speaker with a higher-impedance aftermarket speaker will result in lower volume levels.?
[ Stephen  Jan 12, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
Right. Evidently; your factory system uses speakers that have an unusually low impedance so, when you replace them with aftermarket models (like these JVC which are 4 Ohms) they will get fewer watts from the stock system and provide less output as a result. For additional assistance and personalized recommendations, feel free to contact us directly by phone or through our online chat service: https://www.crutchfield.com/support/ContactUs.aspx

Q
what is yhe biggest amp. that can the jvc-cs-DR520 be connected too ?
[ Bryan  Dec 31, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
The CS-DR520 speakers are rated for up to 40 watts continuous (RMS) each. You will find this information under the "Product Highlights" or by clicking the "Details" tab on the speaker's main webpage. I hope that helps. My bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan

Q
whats the impedance?
[ Rjay  Jul 08, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
Thanks for your question. The impedance is 4 ohms. You can find this information on the product page "Details" tab under "Specifications". Hope this helps.
[ Kenny  Jul 08, 2017 ]  Staff
Q
Is this two 5 1/4 speakers and 2 tweeters?
[ Trevor  Feb 12, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
Thanks for your question. No, this is not a component system. There would be no separate tweeter as it's built into the 2-way speaker. You can find this information on the main product page under "What's in the Box". Hope this helps.
