About the JVC KD-X370BTS

Alexander H.

So many music options

I stream music from Spotify® on my iPhone every day, but my back-up music source is a flash drive packed with old songs. JVC's KD-X370BTS digital media receiver is the ideal 2" tall solution for a driver like me. Built-in Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling, a front USB port, and an aux input make playing music from your phone quick and satisfying. And if streaming isn't your thing, you can add a SiriusXM® satellite radio tuner (sold separately) for easy entertainment. And the receiver's high-contrast LCD display fares well, even in bright sunlight.

Phone-pairing for two drivers

No matter what kind of phone you're using, Bluetooth pairing is automatic every time you hop in the car. You can also pair two phones at once — if you share a vehicle, getting connected is less of a hassle than adjusting the rear-view or getting the driver seat the way you like it. And when it comes to streaming audio, JVC's Streaming DJ feature lets you pair five phones so everybody can chime in with their favourite song on the road.

Use Android™ or Apple®

JVC makes streaming straightforward by letting you control Pandora® and Spotify® right from the stereo. And JVC's remote control app lets you use your compatible Android or iPhone touchscreen to control the action on your receiver using finger swipes and gestures.

With a wired connection, you'll be able to take advantage of the USB port's powerful 1.5-amp charging capability.

Plus, satellite radio compatibility

Pile on the entertainment by adding a SiriusXM® tuner (sold separately) to your KD-X370BTS and start enjoying the wide variety of music, sports, news, and more. The best part is you can drive coast to coast without losing your favourite channels.

Cool colours

JVC provides some super tools to match your new receiver to your interior lighting. And with 2-zone variable colour illumination, you'll get to dial in your look with two different colours on your JVC face. You can even sync the lights to match your music.

Top-notch audio tools

The KD-X370BTS plays MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, and even FLAC files, and you can make the most of them with a wide array of sound-shaping tools, including time alignment to focus the sound at your seat, Sound Lift to raise your music from depths of your doors, and a 13-band graphic equalizer. Plus, JVC's proprietary K2 sound enhancement technology brings out the best in each song.

Always room to expand

JVC prepares you for sonic improvement by arming the KD-X370BTS with three sets of 4-volt preamp outputs. When you're ready, you'll be able to easily add amps and a sub to your system.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Simply connect your portable digital music player to the unit's front-panel auxiliary input, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-X370BTS in-dash digital media receiver utilizes a 24-bit (DAC (digital-to-analog converter) for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The JVC KD-X370BTS is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KD-X370BTS are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amp Gain: When you are using the KD-X370BTS with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 25 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 35.

6ch/4V Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The JVC KD-X370BTS features front, rear and subwoofer 4-volt preamp outputs. The front and rear speaker preamp outputs are balance and fade adjustable. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading and offers independent level control (-50 to +10).

Subwoofer Speaker Connection: You can connect a subwoofer to this head unit without the need of a separate power amplifier. Simply connect a single subwoofer (4-8 ohm) directly to head unit's left rear speaker leads (the right rear speaker output will be muted). The rated power output for the subwoofer speaker channel remains 22 watts. Same subwoofer controls apply, except the, subwoofer level adjustment is from -6 to+3.

Vehicle Setup: In order to optimize the sound quality in your vehicle, you can indentify the type of vehicle you have and the rear speaker location, as well as configure listening distances.

    • Car Type: Select your car type to automatically set the delay time of each speaker for timing adjustment of sound output of each channel to have the highest surround effect. Choose from Compact, Full Size Car, Wagon, Mini Van, SUV, or Off
    • Rear Speaker Location: You can indicate the location of your vehicle's Rear speakers. Choose from Door, Rear Deck, 2nd Row, or 3rd Row.
    • DTA (Digital Time Alignment): For a better sound-stage you can select your optimal listening position. You can choose from All, Front Left, Front Right or Front. You can also select to manually fine tune the sound stage, using Digital Time Alignment (DTA) by selecting the distance (0-20') for each individual speaker in the vehicle compared to your listening position.

Crossover Network: The JVC KD-X370BTS lets you choose between a 2-way or 3-way crossover network for your car audio application.

    • 2-Way Crossover: Allows you to set high-pass and low-pass crossovers for a standard Tweeter, Front, Rear, and Subwoofer speaker setup.

    Q
unit was installed in a 1998 honda accord around 2 years ago. it currently has no rear speaker sound. all the wiring looks to be correct and the harness was supplied by crutchfield when purchased new. any good way to determine if the radio is going bad or if there is issue with the wiring?
    jeromie  Sep 13, 2022
    1 answer
    A
There are a few things you can check first Jeromie. This radio is capable of powering a subwoofer direct off of one rear channel, I have used head units like this before personally and have accidentally set the rear channel to output for a sub and either immediately blown my rear speakers or get no sound from the rear. This would be the first thing I would check in the sound settings on the radio to confirm that has not been accidentally selected. If that is all gravy for full range to all speakers in the radio's settings it's a good idea to just pull the radio out and look at the connections and wiring to make sure nothing has come loose. If that looks good, you can direct connect a confirmed good speaker to the rear outputs of the radio's harness (bypassing the vehicle) to see if you get any sound. IF that provides no sound, then it's possible the unit has gone bad and needs to be replaced sadly. I hope this helps!

There is a setting called Volume Adjust that sets an upper limit to the max volume. Could be that? Try changing that option or do a factory reset and firmware update if that doesn't work for you.

There is no speed/volume setting in audio. There are settings for car type and for frequency boost if there is outside noise. The volume can be adjusted from the steering wheel if that accessory is included.

It says built-in Amazon Alexa. How do you use/access that? What kind of setup is involved?
    noah  Jun 19, 2020

    A
Setup is just installing the Alexa app on your phone and activating it like a speaker. To use it once it is set up, you press the little Alexa circle in the lower right corner. It will not respond to voice until you press it. Then it works just like an Alexa auto, it you are familiar with that. On a personal note, when I use it, the Alexa's voice is quiet, so I turn it up. When I switch back to music, it blasts me out. I do not know how to adjust the two volumes separately. It may just be me or my phone, I have not taken the time to really investigate.

I was not able to use the Alexa on my Android. I installed the required app but the headunit wasn't an option to connect to.
    ryan  Jun 25, 2020
    A
The setup is a little tricky. You must have a smartphone paired and connected to the receiver via Bluetooth. Following the instructions in the manual, you use the Alexa app on your smartphone to connect the receiver to the Alexa app as if it were a Bluetooth headset / headphones. Then if you get them connected right, you can press the Alexa button on the right below the USB port and it switches to Alexa and starts listening through the microphone (that comes with the head unit; put it in a good spot where it can hear like on top of your rear view mirror). If it hears a command then it will process it and speak a response through the head unit. Volume can be adjusted with the volume knob of course. Once it is done speaking its response it will remain in "Alexa" mode as if it were its own "source". There are indicators on the display for "Listening", "Speaking", etc to let you know what it's doing. To send a new command you have to press the Alexa button again and it will start listening again. If you want to go back to your music you tap the SRC button and it goes back to the last source you were on before you pressed Alexa. Do keep in mind the head unit processes commands using your smartphone's Alexa app and internet connection so you must have your phone paired and connected at all times for it to work. I've been able to use all major functions Alexa has to offer this way, including controlling smarthome devices (such as telling my lights to turn on or off at my house) through the receiver this way.

This unit does not play folders in correct alphabetical order. How can I change this? Also it starts at Folder 02 and does not have Folder 01.
    hector  Jun 17, 2020
    1 answer
    A
Mine plays files and folders in alphabetical order. Keep in mind that numbers and special characters are always listed first before letters so make sure your folder and file names / structure is clean or else it won't play the songs in order like you expect it to. This radio does not read and display APE or IDv3 tag data except for the song that is actively being played so you must simulate it for easy navigation by naming your files and folders in a good logical structure like I explained to you in your other question about supported flash drive sizes a few months ago. The head unit will not be able to read all of your folders and files if you have too many folders and folders inside folders (called nested folders) on your USB drive. This can cause some folders to never show up in the file listing and get dropped off. I had to sort mine by "Artist \ Albumname-track#-songtitle" or else I hit the folder limit quickly when I had it separated by "Artist \ Album \ track#-songtitle". Finally make sure your flash drive is properly formatted in FAT32 as the head unit has problems reading exFAT (default for large flash drives) and it doesn't understand NTFS (default for large portable HDDs and SSDs formatted using Windows) at all. The manual doesn't say the head unit plays USB drive songs in any way other than alphabetical so it must be one of the above issues.

Will this unit recognize a 256Gb USB drive or larger?is the maximum number of music files and folders
    hector  May 22, 2020
    1 answer
    A
Yes it will. I have used a 1TB SSD before. The manual shows the maximum limit for folders and files in folders. The more folders you have and the more complex your directory structure, the head unit will take longer to start up every time it is powered on so you may need to be creative with your organization

    Q
Will this unit recognize up to 256Gb USB flash drive? What is the max number of folders and files it can recognize?
    hector  May 22, 2020
    1 answer
    A
I have a 1TB SSD hooked up to mine with an adapter. Your 256GB flash drive will work so long as it is in FAT32 format. It will support up to 999 individual folders across the entire storage device. Browsing your files is done in a directory and filename method, so some planning on how you organize your files is important. If you have a lot of nested folders (folders within folders) then it will take quite some time to scan the USB device. Try to limit the number of folders across your USB drive to keep the scanning speed down. I have my files organized by Genre (such as Rock, Pop, etc), then a folder inside with the artist name, then inside each folder I renamed all the music files to keep it somewhat sane for organization. So something like this: "Genre\Artist\Year Album - Track. Title". My startup scan time is about ten seconds from radio power on till it resumes the last song I was playing, and I have around 15,000 FLAC and MP3 files and 170 folders totaling 415GB on my USB drive.

The manual or JVC website does not have a minimum/maximum USB stated. A 256Gb drive would be approx. 43,000 songs! I have used a 64Gb drive with no problem.

I really don't know. I use mainly for SXM, but very happy with the unit.

Can you stream apple music while on bluetooth?

It works in a similar way to a Bluetooth speaker. If you pair your phone to the head unit over BT and start any app or game on your phone, it will play through the head unit like it were a BT speaker. Skipping tracks and pausing through Apple Music should still work by using the head unit controls, but I cannot be 100% certain as I do not use that service. Works for me with my phone's built-in media player and apps like Spotify.
