Apple CarPlay®

CarPlay seamlessly integrates your iPhone into the driving experience, thanks to a slick interface that puts iPhone content right at your fingertips. You'll be able to access your music library, audiobooks, phone, messages, navigation, and many third-party streaming music apps, too. Learn more at www.apple.com/ios/carplay.

JVC KW-<730BT

Works with Apple and Android smartphones

Android Auto

Android Auto integrates the interface you know so well as an Android user into a distraction-free driving experience. You'll have easy voice access to Google Maps, weather, music, and apps, not to mention your text messages. And you can make calls, too, of course. Find out what else Android Auto can do at www.android.com/auto.

Weblink™ for even more apps

Whether you're an Android or an iPhone® user, Weblink lets you expand your app options to include favorites like Waze and Yelp. Everything you need is accessible through this touchscreen receiver.

Built-in Bluetooth® of course

The KW-M740BT's built-in Bluetooth lets you enjoy wireless streaming for music, podcasts, and audiobooks, plus hands-free phone calls. You can install the included wired microphone close to you, so callers can hear you loud and clear. You'll also get voice control when pairing an iPhone with Siri. And this receiver can quickly switch between two paired phones, which is really handy when your vehicle is used by more than one driver.

More music options

If you enjoy Internet radio on your iPhone® or Android™, you'll have a blast playing music from Pandora and Spotify through this receiver. If you're looking for radio stations that won't disappear when you head into the hills, add a SiriusXM tuner and enjoy satellite radio's rich selection of programs wherever you go. A highly sensitive AM/FM tuner will catch all your local stations.

For the high-res fan

Sometimes you want to hear your own favorite road mixes, and the KW-M740BT has you covered there, too. You'll find a rear aux input for a portable music player, and a rear USB port that can handle your digital music files, as well as tunes from your iPhone or Android. This JVC will even play 192kHz/24-bit high-resolution audio files that you've loaded on a thumb drive. The display will show video when you're parked, and you can show video on the go to your backseat passengers if you add optional screens in back.

Perfect your sound

Once you've chosen your tunes, you can perfect your sound with a vast array of sound controls, including a 13-band graphic equalizer and digital time alignment. JVC's K2 technology helps restore depth and detail to digital music from all sorts of sources. And, because most car speakers are located low in the doors, the KW-M740BT also offers Sound Lift, which adjusts your music's frequencies to virtually "raise" your speakers for better, more natural imaging.

If you drive a two-speaker vehicle, Space Enhancement simulates a fuller surround experience based your vehicle size. And if road noise is especially troublesome in your ride, Volume Link EQ helps compensate for any loss in volume in the worst-afflicted frequencies.

Three pairs of 4-volt RCA preamp outputs provide an ultra-clean signal when it's time to add amplifiers to your system. JVC also includes variable color illumination and a customizable layout for the display, letting you pick the look that works in your dash.

Keep factory features with iDatalink Maestro

The KW-M740BT offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included). In a wide selection of vehicles, this module lets you keep factory features that you'd otherwise lose when you install a new radio. You'll also be able to check out engine performance data and other vehicle info on the JVC's screen. Once you've identified your vehicle, you'll see the iDatalink module offered on the way to the Shopping Cart if it's compatible.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

The ONLY good thing about this radio is the crisp display.. My Android Auto won't work, My JVC weblink won't work. The BlueTooth does not keep up with the music on the display. The touch screen is very iffy from day to day.. I HATE this radio. I am sorry I bought it, but I am stuck with it because my husband won't put another radio in my car.. The equalizer is really good. The extra sound settings give the car an excellent sound, but the negatives outweigh the one good thing.. DON"T buy this radio....

Pros: Crisp display, and good sound settings

Cons: Poor touch screen response, Blue Tooth reaction is very slow on the display. Neither Anroid Auto NOR JVC weblink can connect to the stereo.

Upgraded to this unit. VERY nice! Great sound.. very flexible, Easy UI. All the features I was looking for. The only downside is weblink... not quite ready for prime time yet. All in all a great update for my 13 year old truck!

Pros: Great interface, function, easy of use, and sound. Perfect fit.

Cons: Weblink is not quite there yet.

This is an excellent headunit, no complaints. The one thing I will note is that this one only has 3 buttons. Volume up and down, and a "home" button but really its like a quick action button to bring up some quick choices you regularly use, not found out how to adjust it. Theres a ton of sound control features and I have a picture of my dog as the background.

Pros: Audio control, background, clean, flush

    Cons: none so far

So far I love everything about this stereo. First of all I have to praise Crutchfield for their "Ready Harness" service! Made installation so simple, just plug it in and DONE! This JVC seems to be great quality and the sound is amazing. It'll take me a bit to get everything fine tuned for optimum sound but the huge list features and level of customization is outstanding.

overall the unit is living up to expectations. only gripe and why I didn't give it 5 stars is that apple car play is finicky......sometimes it doesn't read the phone and I have to reboot the unit and even then sometimes it doesn't want to connect. I have double checked all connections and it is installed correctly. The user interface is really nice and if you're looking for a fairly basic tuner/carplay/android auto unit, this is a great one.

Pros: Looks great Easy user interface Nice nav through carplay and waze Does everything I want it to

Cons: Apple Car Play sometimes doesn't work. The unit says to plug in a phone when a phone is plugged in. yes, I checked all connections and they're all good. this is the only con I can say at this time

I'm not a stereo expert, nor do I care about sound, but I will say that this was the best stereo I could have ever found for the price! It made my factory speakers sound amazing, and the apps, (android auto) are fabulous. If you don't have steering wheel controls, the stereo could be frustrating because there are tiny volume controls in the corner and I find the swiping a little more difficult than others, but overall I am thrilled with this stereo including my add on of a backup camera and the steering wheel controls. Critchfield prices and amazing support just cannot be beat!

Great stereo! Exceeded my expectations. Excellent way to add new "Tech" to an older vehicle. Fits and looks great in the dash of my 2008 Toyota Tundra.I highly recommend purchasing the Maestro system to allow your steering wheel controls to work with the infotainment system. I also added a tailgate camera at the same time which now displays through the infotainment system. It's like a new truck now!

Great low-cost HU for Android/Apple Connectivity

Melvin from Mayodan, NC on 11/5/2018

    2006 Volvo S60

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Great headunit to replace my old HU-850 in a Volvo S60R. I didn't want a CD player/changer anymore and wanted something inexpensive to bring my old headunit into the modern age. Instructions were great, but the Scosche VO4152B Fascia Kit could come with better instructions. I didn't realize the side rails snapped into the grooves at the front of the facia, until much closer inspection of the kit. I was also able to order a female-Melbus-DIN to RCA adapter to reuse the factory power amp under the passenger seat and by-pass the JVC's built-in amp. Despite the instructions given here. This makes it unnecessary to route wires from the JVC Headunit to the speaker harness under the passenger seat. The USB connection is a bit noisy when you have a phone plugged in. There is a little bit of static, but the noise goes away when the phone is disconnected. Another thing that wasn't very clear in the user manual was the ability to still stream music via a bluetooth connection when Android Auto/Carplay is active. The instruction kept addressing the phone functionality being discontinued via bluetooth once AA or ACP is activated, but didn't say anything about regular bluetooth streaming for music. So in case you were wondering, you can have AA and ACP running and have a separate device streaming music to the headunit. The only issue I had was with space. The presence of extra adapters makes it extremely difficult to reinstall the console back into the cavity.

I REALLY wanted to like this head unit. Sound is great! Much better than the OEM in my '15 Subaru XV Crosstrek limited. UI is okay and I was getting used to it. Problem was the bluetooth was very erratic. Google Pixel XL would sometimes connect/disconnect. No rhyme or reason. Android Auto was a little bit fickle but worked most of the time. I'm thinking the AA issue was more on the app side than the radio side. Crutchfield has been AWESOME! Great folks and did all they could to help with install and solving problems. I've swapped the unit for a Pioneer which I'll be puttiing in a couple days from now. Hoping for much better results.

    Pros: Great sound, decent interface.

    Cons: Bluetooth is very unreliable.

It's great, when it works. Sadly, that's not when driving on the interstate. The last 3 trips I've taken, after a couple of hours in the car, the head unit will restart itself several times within a few minutes. The two times it did this, after a couple of restarts it functioned normally. Today, after 5 or 6 restarts, the head unit told me to find a safe place to park and restart the car. While I'm on the interstate. That's not cool. I'm going to check with JVC, but if there's not a firmware fix for this, it's coming out of the car.

    Pros: Carplay (usually) works great

Cons: Restarts spontaneously on the highway, and then locks you out until you restart the car. The weblink stuff was garbage. It never worked right. (Since the IOS 12 update, this functionality is redundant.)

    Crutchfield response on 10/10/2018
Our Tech Support specialist, AJ, reached out to Elliot with a link to the latest firmware version and directions on how to update. This should resolve the problem, but we're here to help if it doesn't. Whenever you encounter a problem with anything you purchase from Crutchfield, please contact our Tech Support team right away.

Great radio! I installed it into a 2011 Chevy Traverse, and it looks fantastic! Install was was easy and fairly quick. All the necessary tools we're included as well as harnesses. I would like to see a more detailed wiring schematic included with the harnesses. There were a few things that I attached just by guessing where they went. Other than that, excellent product and service with Crutchfield!

So far been very happy with this radio. I purchased this specifically due to CarPlay ability and love it. I have it installed in my 16 RAV4. Installation was a breeze and the instructions Crutchfield included helped immensely. The only issue I had, if I call it that was some of the wires were not connected from the harness to the CRUX SWRTY-61N connector that allows me to use my existing steering wheel controls. I called support to figure out where they connect too they were very helpful and I got it figured out. Big shout out to support!!! I also recommend paying the little extra for them to connect the wires. Saved me a ton of time. CarPlay works how it is intended. Another plus is the WebLink app so I can use Waze if I don't want to use Apple Maps. WebLink does have its flaws. Sometimes when I tried to use it, it wouldn't work and I had to use Apple Maps, which is still good but I prefer Waze. Overall very satisfied with this radio. There are a lot of options to control the audio. Works well with my existing backup camera. So far the only issue I have is the screen is pretty bright at night even when I turn my headlights on. It dims very little. I know there is a setting for screen brightness but I need it up for driving in the daylight.

Pros: Apple CarPlay is awesome. Radio looks good and it has a nice sized screen.

Cons: Can't really think of any. Only thing I guess is the screen can be a little brighter during the day and at night could be a little dimmer. It does slightly dim when I turn my headlights on but it's still pretty bright. Not a big deal.

Purchased this for my daughters car. She loves it! The unit does exactly what she needs and it makes the trips between school and home tolerable. Crutchfield did an outstanding job by answering my questions on the front end and providing the proper equipment for a simple installation. Highly recommend the wiring harness, game changer! I compared prices between Crutchfield and another online retailer, the prices were close. The other online retailer was a little cheaper but there were two differences. First and foremost, the wiring harness; I would not have been able to install this without it. The second, the other online retailer said the trim plate was not compatible with my car, rubbish. Honest, upfront and transparent!! Excellent job!

Feels like a beta and not a final release.

Pros: Beautiful crystal clear screen -lots of customization of audio with equalizer, crossovers, gains and effects. - lots of available add-ons (satellite, review camera, front and rear screens)

Cons: Very buggy software. Unit will restart on its own once in awhile. -Time will reset. -WebLink isn't worth using. I don't know why it was even added. -Bluetooth phone calls microphone output stutters and people can't understand you. -only Brightness on the screen adjustment screen shows up sometimes when there are usually serval other adjustments available.

    Amazing Receiver with CarPlay

The product is everything I expected! The setup was simple, the interface is intuitive and the integration with the iDatalink Maestro RR system is AWESOME! The amount of sound control built into this receiver is incredible. I can control the sound through not only the incredible built-in equalizer but also through crossover settings, sound profiles, and focused listening zones! It is amazing. I am running this in a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport with four (4) Polk DB651s speakers and it sounds great! Now, that is not so say there are no issues but most of the are either my lack of knowledge or something that will be worked out in the future. Pros: - More features than I will ever use. - CarPlay if fantastic! - Sound options are limitless. - Integration with iDatalink Maestro RR makes installation a breeze and really augments the features of this receiver. Cons: - Weblink is still a bit problematic. - Difficult to remove unused icons and move the ones I want around. - Screen difficult to read in direct, bright sunlight. - Sound options are limitless. This is a pro and con because you can make it sound exactly how you like but it is easy to become overwhelmed by the options.

Overall GREAT unit for a 2013 Highlander. The feature to dollar value for this unit is great. Carplay: Works like a charm. Having this feature instantly modernized our car. Both my wife and I have our phones synched to the unit. We can use them interchangeably as the carplay source and also for Bluetooth phone and music. [Yes, it has the ability to pair two phones, and you can toggle between them via the touch screen easily] AMP/Eq section: The AMP section of the HU is much better than stock. Bass much tighter, and the high end sounds crystal clear, even with stock speakers. It has various DSP options bass boost, timing effects to equalize across the seating in the car, etc. I just use the 13 band EQ to shape it a bit. Screen and Add'l features: Screen is great. Good sensitivity to touch. There is a bit of glare when the sun is coming through at the right angle, but you can still see the screen. There is a warning screen at boot up, but you can set it to auto dismiss, which is nice. Either way, if you put the car into reverse, the backup camera will come up no matter what. This was also nice because this JVC allowed us to add guide lines to the backup camera image, which is helpful. There is no lag in boot up time. Finally, if you have external AMPs there is a nice screen where you can choose your crossover points if you have a bi amp setup. [which I do not] Bottom line after using for about 4 weeks: Great Value for the price and fe

Pros: -Seamless Carplay Integration - no bugs -Great Amp Section, much improvement over the stock HU -Many customize-able features if you are a 'tuner' -Fast boot up, auto-dismiss warning screen, and backup camera activates instantly after starting the car, no delay.

Cons: -Screen has a little glare when light enters at the right angle -Screen design looks a little dated [icons/fonts] -Note to Highlander owners, you'll have to modify the Metra mounting/space filler kit to get it to work for model year 2013

I like this head unit it's nice to have apple car play. The sound quality is good. Still learning some of the ins and outs but it is pretty intuitive. About my only gripe would be that while in car play I can't control volume by swirling finger on the screen like I can on the home screen. That's just a minor gripe though. I think it's great that my phone charges through the usb while connected to car play. This unit does crank and with the Rockford fosgate speakers I also installed the sound is clean and crisp. I installed this into a base 2011 Kia Soul with manual transmission that said now with the ability to go hands free is a godsend.

So far I'm only not impressed by this unit. The Android/ Apple car play is a pretty good feature. The lack of a volume control knob is a shame. Sadly my install has not improved the sound over my very average Jeep Wrangler OEM base head unit. I decided to add new Kicker speakers to see if that was my issue but that also resulted in no appreciable sound improvement. I'm going to check the Crutchfield supplied harness for wiring errors but to date, I really can't recommend and may revert back to my base OEM. Updated review: Finally ! After an eternity of mediocrity, the unit is now working as intended and sounds much better. It was a speaker wiring harness mistake that was at fault.Check your Crutchfield wiring harness for properly connected color wiring . Each wire should continue from end to end as one only color. Mine did not and reversed the speakers which played havoc with the unit's software settings. Once identified, It was easily corrected by switching the male connectors.

I love this unit. I replaced the completely lame stock unit with this one. I also replaced the stock speakers with Rockford Fosgates so the the overall change in sound is really unbelievable. I also love using CarPlay with my phone. This unit is very clean looking which was important to me. I really don't like having lots of actual buttons on the units that also have touch screens. I'm not going to comment on the install in this review. That was not 5 starts.

Pros: Clean looking lines. Great sound.

Cons: Non dimmable screen (I think).

Android (Android Auto) & iPhone (CarPlay) Integration

Android Auto: The JVC digital media receiver supports the Android Auto app for Android smartphones running OS Lollipop (5.0 or newer). Your compatible Android smartphone must be connected to the JVC receiver's rear-panel USB port via the included USB extension cable and the USB cable that came with your smartphone, plus be paired via Bluetooth. Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for driving and automatically brings you useful information and organizes it into simple on-screen "card-style" pop-ups that appear just when they're needed. It's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road ahead. Features of Android Auto include:

    • Google Assistant: The JVC receiver enhances your Android Auto experience even more by incorporating Google Assistant using the head unit's external microphone and your car speakers for voice command and text-to-speech, which makes using Android Auto and all of its integrated applications fast, easy, and safe. You will need to press the "mic" button or say "OK Google" to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make a call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, or listen to music.
    • Google & Waze Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. Select your destination by using the head unit's touchscreen or just say where you want to go through the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You can even listen to music from your Android Auto device or other connected source device while using Google Maps. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
    • Phone & SMS: With Android Auto you get access to your contacts and messages through the JVC receiver while keeping your eyes on the road. Use the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology to make a phone call, or have your text-messages read aloud to you while you concentrate on the road ahead; you can even reply to texts via voice command.
    • Music: Access your Android smartphone's music library through the JVC receiver via Google Play Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen to select songs or just say what song you want to listen to through the head unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You also get access to online music and radio stations from Amazon Music, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, & Tune-In. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo.

    Notes:

    • Android smartphones with a USB Type-C connector (including the Pixel) may not function without appropriate USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Android Auto is being used with a connected Android smartphone.
    • Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable other than the one supplied.
    • If you do need an additional USB extension cable, use Kenwood's CA-U1EX USB extension cable (113CAU1EX, sold separately). Any other USB extension cable can cause Android Auto to malfunction.
    • Click here to learn more About Android Auto and to see what phones are compatible.

WebLink (for iPhone & Android): Download the JVC WebLink app (for Apple iOS 9.0+ and Android OS 4.4+) and connect your compatible iPhone or Android smartphone via USB to access some of your favorite apps such as Waze, YouTube, and Yelp through the JVC KW-M740BT. Using these apps through the large, clear touchscreen of the KW-M740BT makes WebLink a safe and easy way to access popular navigation, media, weather apps while in your vehicle.

    • Waze: You will need to download the Waze app (for Apple iOS 9.0+ and Android OS 4.4+) onto your compatible iPhone or Android smartphone. Waze is the world's largest community based traffic and navigation app. Join other drivers in your area who share real-time traffic and road info, saving everyone time and gas money on their daily commute. The Waze map will be mirrored on the JVC receiver's screen with text-to-speech audible directions played through your vehicle speakers. You can listen to other audio sources (like Bluetooth, Pandora, Spotify, or your phone's stored music library) during Waze navigation; your music will be attenuated when there is a navigation voice prompt (make sure to start your music source before accessing Waze).
      • Destination Search: From the receiver's touchscreen, you can select your saved Home & Work address, Favorites, POIS (points-of-interest), and Recent History as your destination. You can also search keyword(s) or type in an address from the receiver's touchscreen with your vehicle's parking brake engaged. The JVC receiver does not support the Waze voice command feature.
      • Routes, Traffic, & Alerts: The app consistently recommends the fastest routes based on real-time driving and data from more than 90 million users. From traffic reroutes to low gas price alerts and relevant offers from favorite brands, Waze is one of the most comprehensive driving companions in the marketplace. You'll always know what's happening on the road with Waze. Even if you know the way, Waze tells you instantly about traffic, construction, police, crashes, & more. If traffic is bad on your route, Waze will change it to save you time.
    • Yelp: Yelp uses automated software to recommend the most helpful and reliable reviews for the Yelp community among the millions submitted. The software looks at dozens of different signals, including various measures of quality, reliability, and activity on Yelp. Let Yelp help you find the best Restaurants, Hotels, Automotive Service Centers, Banks, Shopping Malls, and more. Search by Category, Favorites, Distance, Point on the Map, or Keyword. A keyword search requires that your vehicle's parking brake be engaged.
    • OpenWeatherMap: Within WebLink is the OpenWeatherMap app, which gives you today's forecast and a four day outlook of the weather in your area.
    • YouTube: With WebLink, you can access YouTube and play videos on the JVC receiver's touchscreen monitor (your vehicle's parking brake will need to be engaged). You can select videos from a variety of categories or search by keyword(s).
    • MediaPlayer (Audio Only): WebLink allows you to access your Apple iOS or Android device's stored music library for playback. From the KW-M740BT's touchscreen, you can browse your phone's music library by Artist, Album, Genres, Playlist, or Songs. You can also search your music by typing in an artist's name or a song title (the vehicle's parking brake has to be engaged for this feature). In addition, you get playback controls such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, & Random/Repeat. The digital media receiver's screen will display song/artist/album information, along with album art.
    Notes:
    • Once you have your device connected to the head unit and you have selected WebLink or Waze as the source, the WebLink and Waze app are not controllable from your Apple iOS or Android device. If you need to control the WebLink app from your smartphone, you will have to disconnect your phone's cable from the JVC receiver. If you need to control the Waze app from your phone, you will have to tap "Disconnect" on the app on your phone's screen.
    • The WebLink app or Waze app must be opened as the primary app on your phone. If you press the home button or go to access other apps on your phone, the WebLink & Waze apps will pause on the KW-M740BT, until the WebLink or Waze app is the primary app again. WebLink & Waze will not work with these apps only running in the background.
    • Some apps within WebLink will require that your vehicle's parking brake be engaged to operate certain functions & features of the application.

Apple CarPlay Compatible: Apple CarPlay is the smarter, safer in-vehicle interface to operate your iPhone (iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector. Your iPhone must be connected to the JVC receiver's USB port via the included USB extension cable and the Lightning-cable that came with your Apple device, or JVC's Lightning connector-to-USB cable (105KSU62, sold separately). CarPlay features Siri voice control and is specially designed for driving scenarios. It also works with the JVC receiver's touchscreen controls. Use CarPlay to get directions, make phone calls, listen to voice mail, send/ receive messages and select music in a way that keeps you focused on the road ahead.

    • Maps: The power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze (coming soon), you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have there own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone & Messages: You'll be able to make calls, return missed calls, and listen to voicemails through the JVC receiver. Siri can also help you do all these things. In addition, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages for you; so you never have to look at your iPhone while driving.
    • Music Library: Access your artists, song, playlists, and iTunes Radio on your iPhone using the JVC receiver's touchscreen. Or, just tell Siri what you'd like to listen to. The head unit's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background.
    • Apps: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, radio, sports, news, podcasts, & audiobooks. Control them from the head unit's touchscreen just like you would from your iPhone. Current supported apps include (fees may apply):

    Notes:

    • Bluetooth hands-free phone cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • If you need an additional USB extension cable, use JVC's CA-U1EX USB extension cable (113CAU1EX, sold separately). Any other USB extension cable can cause CarPlay to malfunction.

iPod/iPhone Music Playback Only: If you don't desire Apple CarPlay or WebLink, you can also connect your Lightning-connector Apple iPod/iPhone to the KW-M740BT's USB port for music playback & control only using JVC's Lightning connector-to-USB cable (105KSU62, sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device. The receiver supports playback of stored music and music apps, along with control and charging, plus song/artist information and album art.

    • Head Unit Control: The JVC head unit allows you to navigate your iPod/iPhone's music library from its front-panel & touchscreen controls. The head unit offers unique search features like Category Search & Link Search; plus offers basic playback functions like Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track and Repeat/Random of your connected iPod/iPhone. You'll also still be able to control most connected Apple devices from its own touchscreen while connected via USB.
      • Category Search: Category Search allows you to navigate your iPod/iPhone's music library by Playlist, Artists, Album, Song, Genre, Song, Podcast, Audiobook, or Radio. You can then search each of these categories using the head unit's touchscreen slider function (categories will be listed in alphabetical order).
      • Link Search: The head unit offers Link Search, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Search lets the head unit create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, an artist list of the currently playing genre, or an album list of currently playing composer.
    • Song/Artist Info & Album Art: The KW-M740BT will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music information including Track number, Elapsed playing time, Song/Album title, Artist name, and Album art. The unit will also display song/artist info and album art from select music apps.
    • Battery Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1.5A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.
Note: Not compatible with older 30-pin Apple devices.

In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC KW-M740BT. Check here for the latest Bluetooth compatibility information.

Multi-Device Pairing w/ Dual Phone Connection: You can pair up to ten Bluetooth-enabled devices to the JVC head unit. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. Thanks to the Dual Phone Connection feature, two Bluetooth-enabled phones can remain connected to the JVC receiver. This means you can an answer an incoming call from either phone from the head unit. Also, both of your phone's contact lists are downloaded to the receiver. To make a call from one of the phones using the JVC receiver, you simply have to select Phone 1 or Phone 2 on the head unit's touchscreen.

    • SSP (Simple Secure Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the JVC KW-M740BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings.
    • USB Pairing (for iPhone): You can even pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5+) by simply connecting it to the JVC head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.

Hands-Free Communication w/ External Mic: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering a Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash.

    • Vol Link EQ: The Vol Link EQ features boosts certain frequency ranges that become hard to hear due to road noise.

Music Enhancement: You can restore the sound lost due to audio compression, as well as enhance the sound by virtually manipulating the soundscape.

    • Rear-View Auto Switching: The video from this connection can be set to display when switched to this input, or display the rear view camera video automatically when the vehicle is shifted into Reverse gear. The purple/white wire (attached to rear chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching. Automatic video switching takes approximately 0.8 seconds.
Note: The rear view camera feature is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

OEM Integration: This JVC digital media receiver is compatible with the iDatalink Maestro RR (794ADSMRR, sold separately); a web programmable module that will permit the aftermarket JVCreceiver to work with select Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles that feature the factory SYNC system; as well as select GM vehicles with factory OnStar; select Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep vehicles with U-Connect, plus select Honda/Acura, Toyota/Scion, Volkswagen & Subaru vehicles with factory digital amplifiers.

In addition to flashing the iDatalink Maestro RR module, you'll also need a vehicle specific harness (sold separately). The JVC receiver's OEM Setup menu must also be configured with your compatible vehicle's factory system before initial operation.

You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display a blue screen and "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork; as well as CarPlay & Android Auto.

Display Settings: You can make the following adjustments to the head unit's touchscreen display to better fit your application and needs.

    • Source Information & Control: The JVC Remote App provides a Source Control screen with a list of the receiver's built-in sources and connected sources to choose from, so you can change the head unit's source from your mobile device. Once an input is selected, the app displays source information such as station number, track number & playback time, as well as song/artist information (when applicable). From the app, you can also seek stations and tracks, as well as Play and Pause your music.

    • When using the JVC Remote App with your compatible Apple iOS device, the application and device must be connected to the receiver via Bluetooth (not USB) for playback of Bluetooth audio. For playback of a USB-direct connection from an Apple iOS device, the device and application must be connected to the head unit via USB (not Bluetooth).

In "Details" it says that bluetooth calling does not work when listening to Android Auto. Can I take a call through Android Auto if a call comes in? Will it automatically mute the music or will my phone just ring and I will I have to answer the phone as if it was not connected to the JVC unit? If so, it kind of defeats the purpose of why I'm buying this unit. What about making a call?

It still works, it's just that call functions are through the USB instead of Bluetooth. You have to have it plugged in to use Android Auto. If not then it goes to Bluetooth.

When Android Auto is active you use your phone through the app it provides. The app does all of the things you would expect including voice dial. And yes, while you are on a call the music is muted. Ron.

While one phone is connected via USB for Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, can another device or phone be connected via Bluetooth to stream music to the headunit separately?

    A
That will not be possible. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay both require an active Bluetooth connection to the phone as part of making the phone work as well as the cable connected via USB. But the aux input will work and you could always use an audio cable to the second device to listen to the music. My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

Key Button Color says variable but JVC website says white--which one is it?

Thanks for your question! The three push-button controls for volume up/down and function/menu are white backlit and cannot be changed. However, the touchscreen menu/controls can be customized by rearranging and moving the icons of the four most sources you use most to this screen. You can also choose between six preset background images or download your own still image (800 x 480) for use as the unit's background from a connected USB thumbdrive. Is the Details section accurate when it says "HD Radio: No"?! I just can't imagine a 2017 receiver not having such a basic feature. Standard FM sounds abysmal in comparison.

Do I need an amp to make this work in my 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T?

No...mine works great with my stock F-150. Just bought the install kit recommended...no amp! I really like this unit and have been pleased with it.

Well, I think it has 22 watts x 4 channels...so it's not quiet. However, if you want volume to shake your trunk lid...you'll need an amp. Another example, if you want to feel the bass in your body...get an amp. For me it's sufficient with upgraded speakers. you may want to try upgrading the speakers first, seeing how that sounds, and then going for the amp. A little more work, but may be worth your time. Enjoy!

would say that you would need an amp if you wanted to upgrade your sound system in your vehicle, but otherwise no you don't need an amp to make this receiver work.

I am interesting in purchasing JVD M740bt. The question I have is that I am on the road a lot and using the Google map all day. Can I still listen to music using the preloaded music from the memory card on my phone while connecting through Google Auto? I called and asked the JVC rep and he said no. TY.

    [ Michael  Jun 13, 2018 ]

Yes. You can listen to music from your Android Auto device or other connected source device while using Google Maps. You will find this information, and more, by clicking the "Details" tab on the JVC's main webpage and scrolling down below the "Features & Specs" table. I hope that helps. I only have an iPhone, so I'm sorry, I can't answer this for you regarding Android phones. It does charge my iPhone when connected to the USB.

Thank you guys for the responses. Yes it does charge the phone. Though it doesn't fast charge the Google Pixel 2, but in all fairness after the recent update no car charger does, even the one I have that use to a month ago. Also if anyone else uses a Google pixel 2 use the white cord that came with your phone all other cords seem to make Android Auto disconnect repeatedly
    [ Brandon  May 02, 2018 ]

Yes, it will charge the phone.
    [ James  May 02, 2018 ]

Yes it does. There is enough power to charge my S8 almost as quickly as a fast charge charger does.

Yes, regardless of mobile phone, it has a speed charge.

I can't say for certain, but I would say yes. I say this because when I am using the apple car play hooked up to the lightning port, my iPhone charges.

I can say that for the iphone, it charges, so I would assume the same for an android device.
