Product Research

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Woofer Mounting: The woofer baskets have multiple mounting holes and are designed to fit standard 3-hole 6-1/2, Ford's 4-hole 6-1/2, and 6-3/4 applications. (A speaker baffle should be used to seal the inner ring of screw holes in 6-3/4 installations.) The included adapter brackets can be used to fit many specialized factory speaker applications. The brackets are also useful as a spacer in shallow locations; the brackets add 0.232" to the woofers' mounting height and subtract 0.232" from the mounting depth. Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Tweeter Mounting: The supplied mounting cups allow you to surface or flush mount the tweeters. The tweeters swivel slightly in the flush mount housings, allowing you to adjust them for optimum imaging.

Tweeter Mounting Dimensions:

  Flush Mount Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.314" 0.884"
Mounting Depth 0.731" screw depth
Cutout Diameter 1.780" N/A
Frame Diameter 2.135" 1.75"

Crossover: The outboard crossovers have screw terminal inputs and outputs (0.3" wide). A jumper inside each crossover allows you to adjust the tweeter output level; choose 0 dB, +3 dB, or +6 dB. There are two screw holes in the base of each crossover for mounting.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Width: 2.6"
  • Height: 1.2"
  • Depth: 4.73"

Marine Certification: Polk speakers are marine certified, making them a good choice for boats in fresh water, convertibles, motorcycles, ATVs, and other applications where the speaker might get wet. Because they have coated steel baskets, the terminals are not covered, and the crossovers are not sealed, we do not recommend using them in salt water environments.

can i run the polk db6502 in active crossover dsp setup, with the included passive crossovers as backup buffers to protect tweeters, powered with a rated 50w x 4ch @4ohm alpine mrvf300 amp?
[ Reuben Anthony  Feb 08, 2021 ]
2 answers
Yes you can. I have mine set up exactly that way with a dm810 DSP from audio control. The included cross over gives you a little more control over the tweeter output level as well. It's commonly stated to never run a passive and active cross overs together because of the phase distortion, but I haven't experienced that. The time alignment is delayed slightly with the added cross over but the DSP can handle that. They sound great
[ Mike  Feb 09, 2021 ]
Yes u shud be fine
[ BART  Feb 08, 2021 ]
Does this only come with 2 speakers and if so do I need to buy 2 sets of these to have speakers in the front and back doors of the car? Also do I need to buy any new wires for it? I want to put these in a 2001 VW passat sedan. Thanks!
[ ZDaMan  Aug 11, 2020 ]

Yes you will need two sets they may not be a direct fit and require some fabrication. you may or may not need the provided crossover network depending on application
[ Angelo  Aug 12, 2020 ]
Yes it is a two speaker set (plus tweets). I left my back speakers stock and put these up front. Currently have this setup in my f-150. Sounds great!
[ JAMES  Aug 12, 2020 ]
Yes. They are separate tweeter and woofer to go in each door. You would need two pair. Speaker wire should be in the car already.
[ jake77  Aug 11, 2020 ]
The package includes 2 mids and 2 tweeters. You would need to purchase two sets for front and rear doors. Factory speaker wires are fine, unless you are hooking up an amp.
[ Dale  Aug 11, 2020 ]
If I wanted to run these speakers as a 4 channel system with active crossovers, how much power (RMS) would I need to provide each speaker/channel?
[ Patrick  Jul 27, 2020 ]
1 answer
Polk Audio does not give the RMS for each driver. I've used the RMS power their separate tweeters handle as a guide and that's worked well for our customers in the past. So, I recommend getting an amp that outputs around 60 watts RMS per channel. If you would like some help in finding an amp that will work, then I recommend contacting an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to discuss any additional preferences and get a personal recommendation

I have the Bose system in my 2006 envoy. Do I need the crossovers since the factory amp already separates the bass and treble. And does the factory amp push enough watts for these speakers?
[ Todd  May 25, 2020 ]
1 answer
I had these in my envoy with Bose, however I bypassed the factory amp therefore needing the crossovers. I don't remember the Ohm rating of the factory Bose speakers, if it's different enough you may notice a change in volume. But to answer your question, yes the factory amp has its own crossover

[ Krissy  Apr 06, 2020 ]  Staff
Sorry I don't have that answer, but I can say that some installations require slicing in a length of wire to allow the crossover in a place a little more remote than right there close. Mine went in to a GMC grewcab

Can you hook up a mid range speaker with these speakers and if so where to hook it up on crossover?
[ Dave  Jul 18, 2019 ]
1 answer
This speaker is not designed to have a midrange added in. However, there is a way to still use one with this setup that will require an amp to power each driver independently as well as a 3-way crossover. I recommend contacting an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to discuss all the gear that is needed for this setup My Bio:

I have a clarion xc2510 amp rated at 50 watts continuous when each channel is directly connected to an individual speaker. I'm concerned this won't be enough for these speakers. I believe I could also bridge channels to provide 150 watts continuous. Would you recommend this? Thanks!
[ Matt  Jun 01, 2019 ]
1 answer
These speakers are very efficient and can work with various amounts of power for different levels of performance. Also, you are correct that your amp can output 150 watts RMS x 2 channel when bridged. It has a gain control too. So you could run it that way, adjust the gain so the amp does not overpower these speakers and get the best sound they can deliver. My Bio:

I don't plan on upgrading the factory head unit. Do I risk damaging anything hooking up the factory head unit to these speakers/tweeters/crossovers? Or will I just suffer with not maximizing the speaker's potential?
[ Frank Jerome  Mar 29, 2019 ]
3 answers
I have a factory head unit with a line out converter to an amp running these speakers. I don't think adding them to a factory head unit will hurt them but they won't be at their full potential.
[ Robert  Apr 06, 2019 ]
Hey Frank! You're definitely not going to damage anything. As of right now i have my 6502s hooked up to an aftermarket JVC head unit. They sound good but I'll tell ya they'd sound a lot better with an amplifier on them. I have a 100x4 JBL that I'm going to hook up to them just haven't had the time. I think my head unit is rated at something like 15w x4. In my opinion keep your head unit and get an amplifier and make the speakers perform the way they were designed to perform. Hope this helps.
[ VINCE  Apr 06, 2019 ]
No they will work. But I would recommend getting an amp or a aftermarket head unit to power them.
[ Anthony  Apr 06, 2019 ]
How long are the wires attached to the tweeters?
[ Peter  Oct 17, 2018 ]
1 answer
I did that car with those a year ago I have forgotten how long for sure but I can tell you if the Tweeter is going to be over 24 in away from the mid-range. You might have to extend them
[ Steve  Oct 17, 2018 ]
Will the supplied crossover filter out the signal below 85 hz or should I set the high pass filter on my amp to 85 hz?
[ RockOn  Jul 03, 2018 ]
1 answer
In this case you would set your amplifier's high-pass filter at 85 Hz. The included 2-way crossover designed to take the signal from your amp/head unit and separate the highs out to the tweeters, and lows to the woofers. Polk doesn't specify the crossover point for the DB 6502 speakers; but it's typically in the 3.5kHz-5kHz range for 6-1/2" component speakers. Are these crossovers Active or Passive? Did not see anything specific in the details. Thank you.
[ Mikey  Apr 16, 2018 ]
3 answers
The crossovers are passive as they do not require their own power supply, getting what power they require from the speaker wires.

Which wire on the tweeter is positive? The tweeter has two black wires, one with white strip on large spade. I know the large spade on the woofer is positve, but it connects to gray wire with no strip. In other words the tweeter wiring is not consistant: gray with stripe = lagre spade, tweeter black with strip = small spade??

Man, call Crutchfield! Its been over a year since i installed all that stuff, cant remember which wire went where. There is a polarity test you can do with a battery though- im sure there must be a video on youtube. Good luck, and CALL CRUTCHFIELD- that's what they are there for!!!

Can you run these without the supplied crossover?
[ Randy  Mar 08, 2018 ]
2 answers
I'm sure you could but the sound/quality you just paid for will be gone. The crossover tells each speaker what sounds to play with out it your tweets will try and play bass which will ruin them.
[ Ryan  Mar 17, 2018 ]
Technically yes, but it'll sound terrible

When will this product be in stock?
[ Mark  Jan 02, 2018 ]

When available, the ETA is provided on the product's main webpage. As of this posting, the estimated time of arrival for our next shipment is 1/22/18. If you place a backorder for them now, you can be sure to get them from our next delivery and you will also lock-in the current sale pricing. We will not charge you for the speakers until they ship so, placing the backorder for them now won't cost you anything. I hope that helps. My bio:

I don't know if this applies to full range and component speakers, but reading one of Crutchfield's educational articles about subwoofers (top rms) powered by 75% to 150% amps rms for matching performance. I'm wondering if I can power the Polk Audio DB6502 with a JL Audio Slash 300/2, witch puts out 150 rms x 2 of power?
[ G  Nov 11, 2017 ]
1 answer
It's always a good idea to match the RMS power handling of the speaker to the RMS output of the amp. If you "baby" the speakers with an amp rated at more RMS power you'll probably be ok but these speakers are very efficient and will not need more power than called for. My advice....get a 100 watt amp and you can't go wrong.
[ James  Nov 13, 2017 ]
Would these be overpowered by a bridged 5 channel pioneer gd9605 2x150 rms 4 ohms?
[ Marcos  Sep 25, 2017 ]
1 answer
Yes if the amp you list is rated at 150 watts rms per channel. The db6502's are rated to handle 100 watts rms so any bridging will only increase the power to the speakers. It's always best to match a speakers rated rms power handling to the amps rms power output with the impedance (ohms) the same.
[ James  Sep 26, 2017 ]
with this package do i need to buy extra speaker wire or will the wire included be enough to run throughout the car?
[ noah  Mar 28, 2017 ]
1 answer
Thanks for your question. This will depend on your vehicle. If you are connecting to the factory wiring at the speaker location then there should be plenty of wire included. If you are running completely new wire all the way to the head unit then additional wire may be required. If you have additional questions I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question.

Can I still use the factory grills with the tweeters for OEM appearance?
[ Mike  Mar 20, 2017 ]

This will depend largely on your vehicle. For details on installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on what you will need for an installation.

If the tweeter is 4 ohms and the woofer is also 4 ohms, when you hook them up to the crossover and then power them with an amplifier will the load that the amplifier sees then be 2 ohms?
[ Tim  Feb 12, 2017 ]
1 answer
The Polk Audio DB6502 component speakers will still present a 4-ohm load to your amplifier. The tweeters and woofers are connected individually to the crossovers, (which filters high frequencies to the tweeters and mids/lows to the woofers) so the impedance shown to your amp remains 4-ohm. If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
[ Larry  Feb 23, 2017 ]  Staff
These speakers don't show a minimum impedance. Is it possible to run them at a 2ohm load?
[ F Rojas  Jan 28, 2017 ]
1 answer
It's my understanding of audio systems that the speakers in the system are the load, and therefore will be the 4 ohms listed by polk. An amp set up to handle a 2 ohm load (speaker) will do fine with a 4 ohm speaker as the current draw will be lower.
[ James  Jan 28, 2017 ]
The included tweeter mounts, both flush or surface versions, are extremely hard to get the tweeter into. It is basically a one-time press fit (and do not press on the tweeter grill!). It appears to me that once pressed in either mount, you'd then have to damage either the tweeter or the mounting surface in order to remove them. Am I missing something, or is this what others have used these mounts experienced as well?
[ Joe  Jan 14, 2017 ]
3 answers
I ended up placing the tweeter in the factory dashmount location without using the included flush mount brackets. I simply drilled a hole in the factory housing just big enough to accomodate the tweeter. I simply press fit the tweeter in the location and used gorilla glue to hold it in place. Worked like a charm.
[ Anonymous  Jul 07, 2019 ]
I've had to take my tweeters out since installing them and although it required finesse, I did it without any damage to driver or mount. I used a long thin screwdriver and pushed it out from the back side VERY CAREFULLY.
[ James  Jan 28, 2017 ]
Yes, that is what we found. That is, the tweeters will be damaged if they have to be removed.
[ D  Jan 18, 2017 ]
what kind of power should i look for in an amp to run these speakers? Non-bridged.
[ Arnie  Sep 02, 2016 ]

I have the DB6502s in my rear doors (with the tweeters in the front), and a pair of DB 692s in the front. The receiver is a Sony MEX-XB100BT, Class-D, 40wRMS (100wPEAK) x 4. I'm using the receiver's feature that uses the rear speakers kinda like subs to supplement bass from the fronts. It gets loud enough for me, but at 56 I'm not trying to pulsate the doors. At full volume, there is not a trace of distortion unless the bass is turned up to absurd levels. I have little doubt that they would handle 100wRMS as specified, and they would be loud enough for anybody, but some might want more bass and need a separate subwoofer (I once had an Infinity Basslink that was AWESOME, for my musical taste). It all depends on whether your goal is good clean music now and being able to hear when you're 50, or if you want to thump today and say "huh?" all the way through your golden years. You might go to 150wRMS for some additional headroom for bass in the amp, but you'd have to be careful to never turn it up all the way. Remember: When you get distortion, it is most often because the amp is not powerful enough and it is clipping -- NOT because the speakers are distorting. But sure, you can pump the coil straight out of the magnet if you try hard enough. I had first tried some Infinity speakers and was *shockingly* disappointed. These speakers sound VERY good. Highly Recommended.
[ Karl  Sep 04, 2016 ]
I'm currently using an Arc Audio KS 300.4, non bridged 90 watts for each channel.
[ Edwin  Sep 03, 2016 ]
I would go with an amp that delivers at least 75% of the maximum RMS rating or better.
[ Billy Ray  Sep 03, 2016 ]
What is the RMS wattage for this system?
[ Lauren  Aug 18, 2016 ]
1 answer
Thanks for your question. You'll find this information on the product page under "Product Highlights". The system handles up to 100 watts RMS (300 watts peak power). Hope that helps.
