New speakers sound good

I replaced the factory's speakers with the 6502 and wow what a difference. Crisp clean highs an lows. The one dash speaker was a challenge to install in my 08 wrangler however the others went well.

Pros: The speakers sound good and the price was good

Cons: The install instructions could use some clarity. The speaker wires should be red and black. To me + and - would be much clearer or the instructions should indicate black with a white tracer is +.

I cannot believe the excellent sound quality available at this price point. I installed these in front doors of a pickup powered by 50W/ch. With the tweeter positioned in the sail panel of the door, I had to set the tweeter jumper to the 0db position. Amazing balance with a totally flat signal crossed over at 125Hz. I was very impressed with the flexible tweeter mounting hardware that they came with. The surface mount option actually allows the driver to swivel for precise aiming. I will also commend Polk Audio customer service. We accidentally smashed a tweeter during installation, and when I asked them if I could buy a new one they sent me one for free!

Pros: Great sound, adjustable tweeter level, many tweeter mounting options

Great value for the everyday vehicle

The Polk DB series component speakers are a budget friendly way to higher quality sound. These were designed to be relatively easy to install (for component speakers). They come with crimped ends on the speaker wires. They are different sizes for + and - making this part foolproof. The crossovers are clearly marked for the wiring connections. There are two holes drilled through them for mounting. I was able to drill and tap the door frames and use 1/4x 20 screws to mount them (easy size to find). These are not included with the hardware package. The tweeters come with the leads soldered on with a short whip of cable. They come with the crimp connectors on them. This was especially helpful when mounting the tweeters to sail panels above the door as they need to be removed before the door panels. This allowed for a simple reassembly process. As others have pointed out, the crossovers come with a three position tweeter level setting. They come by default at +6 dB. This will make them sound excessively bright in many situations. I set mine to 0 dB and still found "s" and "t" to be far too bright. This may be due to the tweeters being at head level instead down by the woofers in my installation. Nonetheless, I had to drop my highest EQ points down by 3 dB to compensate. Once installed and balanced out, I found the sound to be very good for the price paid. I was fortunate to have a 12 band EQ on my head unit to smooth things out. Without this it may have be

Pros: Well thought out design Smooth midrange

Cons: Excessively bright tweeters

Don't install if you have a stock stereo/no amp

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Overall I'm disappointed in my purchase. I didn't realize these speakers would be as power-hungry as they are. I was recommended these by a Crutchfield Rep, but they work very poorly with a stock stereo. They sound worse than the stock speakers did. Now I've been looking for solutions and I may need to use an amp and rewire all of my speakers. I'll end up spending considerably more time and money than I was looking to. I'm not sure whether I'll go through Crutchfield or not because as great as the technical support is, it's the recommendation by them that's causing me my issues.

Pros: I'm guessing they'd sound good if they had the proper power

Cons: Power hungry Minimal bass

I have these running off of a Kicker CXA300.4 in bridged mode. Gain was set to keep the channel under 100 instead of its rated 150. These things are clean. From the factory the tweeters were configured for +6dB and I can't imagine why. If you're keeping it in the door or down in a kick panel I could see needing them that loud but mine went in the factory sail panel location. Keeping them at no boost and they provide plenty of output. Source is mostly 320kbs mp3s and lossless formats off of an ipod and alpine cda-117. The speakers provide more detail and range than the factory could ever hope to, with the same source. The only thing they're lacking in and other reviews have mentioned it, is mid bass. I have my crossover set at 100Hz and they keep up but they can't be comfortably brought lower without bottoming out or doing much good. What they can do down to 100 does help bring the bass to the front of the car. Still though, an improvement over the factory. The factory felt punchier but lost dynamics and tonal quality in trade for punch. I think some more time with the equalizer and crossover settings can breathe some life into them but don't expect miracles. They fit in areas requiring shallow speakers and sound good doing it. With a flat EQ the treble was not too bright or harsh and the midrange had some warmth to it.

Replaced the factory woofer/tweeter pair in the doors of my '09 Kia Spectra LX. The clarity of sound and the control these speakers have is phenomenal compared to factory. These are paired with my JVC head unit at 20W RMS/40W MAX. They produce a fantastic sound even at this modest level of amplification. My only complaint is how Polk set the tweeter from the factory. They are set to +6db by default and this is way to high in a simple replacement setup. Set mine to 0db and everything sounds birght without being the least bit shrill.

Pros: Bright sound stage. Tight bass. Great sensitivity.

Cons: Default tweeter setting of +6db is way to high.

On a JL audio 4 channel amp that's only 70 Watts bet channel I've blown three sets of these now! They cannot handle a pounding like JL, kicker or Fosgate speakers. Maybe on a factory radio with no amp they would be ok but don't crank it up! I'll never own another pair of these junk speakers. I've been putting systems in my cars for 28 years now and have never had this many problems with a component set. Tweeters and crossovers burn up like crazy and pole won't honor the warranty on them. They kept telling me I hooked them up wrong lol. I'm a master electrician and car audio nerd. Amp to crossover to woofer and Tweeter. It's not exactly rocket science

Pros: Sound pod till they blow

Cons: Everything! Junk speakers can't handle 70 watts rms.

I bought this component setup for my son's 2016 Mazda 3 (non-bose replacement). The additional pieces (Metra speaker brackets and wiring harness) along with the .pdf installation guide made installing the new speakers and tweeters very straight forward. I elected to cut the OEM tweeter wire and solder to the new tweeters forgoing the crossover installation. I know this was not brilliant, but I was not comfortable with the slightly more challenging wiring required to properly install the crossover. However, the music quality has improved dramatically. Perhaps on his own dine, my son will decide to have a professional upgrade with an amp, sub, and have the crossovers installed. I think an amp would help the bass be more dramatic, but I happy with this upgrade.

Pros: Easy to install

The Polk DB6502s paired with the Polk DB652s make even a stock headunit sound awesome! Was considering having them professionally installed but decided to take matters into my own hands and glad I did. Crutchfield's mastersheet was easy to use and with some creativity for tweeter placement I got the job done and it looks professional. Can't wait to upgrade the head unit this week and have my amps added.

Excellent upgrade to my stock speakers. Not super hard hitting in either the high or low department but a very clear and smooth sound. (even cleared up a door rattle i had with my stock speakers...). Little light on the bass but could be because my door location isn't ideal. Either way if paired with a woofer you won't be disappointed.

Pros: Very clear sound and can handle a lot of power (100W)

Cons: Not the hardest hitting bass if you're looking for that.

I installed the Polk DB6502 in a Jeep Wrangler. Installation instructions for the Jeep were spot on for the speaker, although nothing was provided for the crossover. I decided not to replace the crossover at this time but plan to when I replace the receiver at a later time. The Crutchfield consultant steered me towards these and they are definitely an improvement in both sound quality and power over the stock, and they were lower price than the ones I leaned towards before talking with the consultant. I expect these will sound even better when I upgrade the amp. The only difficult I had was installing the tweeters - I could not get the included hardware to work well with the factory pods, but I was able to mount them securely by using indoor/outdoor caulk.

Pros: Good Value, good sound quality

Cons: Tweeter installation not straightforward in a Jeep

Polk DB 6502 silk dome tweeter are smooth

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Just installed these in my regular cab 06 Tacoma at 45 watts RMS to each from the Pioneer GM-D1004 compact amp. Also used the 6-1/2 Boom Mat baffles to reduce noise in the door and improved the mid bass. The silk dome tweeters are much softer and warmer sounding than the Morel Maximo 6's that I returned. I have the crossovers set to the mid position of 3 db for the tweeters. Also used the other 2 channels from the pioneer amp bridged at 90 watts RMS to run a Kicker 43TC104 10 inch ported sub. The head unit is a Sony XAV-AX1000 with apple CarPlay. Overall I am very satisfied with the sound quality of these Polks. There is no harshness from the tweeters and the adjustable crossovers should allow tuning to satisfy most listeners. I would have given 4-5 stars but the crossover covers were so tight I had to use channel locks to get inside to adjust the tweeter levels. I also had one tweeter not working and found the jumper was intermittent in the 6 db position. Worked fine in the 3 db position for me. Polk got the sound quality right on but somehow missed out on some of the minor details. Won't matter if you get your gear here because you will be taken care of by the excellent staff.

Pros: Mid bass Tweeters are smooth and warm with 3 levels

Cons: Crossover jumper intermittent Crossover cover difficult to remove

Hooked this speakers up to a Rockford Fosgate 4 Channel amp rated 100W rms, should be good right? NOPE. Midranges sound dull and tweeters sounded dull also. oh and in 6 months of installation, the crossover blew up. Shell out the money for better speakers if you are hooking them up to an amp. to be fair, the midrange and tweeter survived so i installed them in my brothers car and they sound goog. maybe they werent made to be hooked up with amps.

Was a bit leary when I ordered, I have some Polks in my home that are so so. But I trusted the Crutchfield recommendation after I explained what I liked. These are great. A little on the bright side but that's what I like, very clear vocals with clean sound. Took a little work to make them fit in my 2002 Chevy truck (Crutchfield warned me), but I have installed a fair number of speakers over the years and it was not a huge deal. Sounds great with my new Alpine head unit. I was planning to add an amp but for my style of music and listening I am very impressed without an amp.

Great Monsoon Component Speaker System Replacement

Gregory from Bellingham, WA on 8/20/2018

2001 Volkswagen Passat

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Yes, awesome! DB6502s were used to replace the F+R OEM Monsoon speaker systems in a 2001.5 Passat Sedan. I elected to bypass the OEM amplifier and wiring harnesses using 14AWG Stinger speaker wire from the Alpine UTE-73BT/KTP-445A HU/Amp to the Polk crossovers mounted in the doors. Originally, I had the front speakers replaced professionally, but found they didn't sound right (kind of tinny and echoy). Opening the door panels I found they use mounting adapters similar to those recommended by Crutchfield. This makes a difference because the OEM Monsoon speakers are approximately 2.5-3 inches tall to seal against the door panel hardware. This is what the Crutchfield recommended adapters do. I also installed the Crutchfield recommended sound absorber disks behind the speakers, but can't really say this makes a lot of difference. The speakers were dead-easy to install (with a little moxy required to mount the Polk tweeters behind the OEM tweeter mountings - retaining the OEM tweeter grill - Dremmel tool, permanent double sided tape, and silicone sealer is what I eventually used to fix them in place. Polk provides wiring for connection of the crossovers to the mid/woofer and tweeter, already with size coded spade connectors. You really can't go wrong with the install. After install, they worked well immediately from the get-go ... no problems whatsoever. Great sound reproduction from various sources through the Alpine equipment. I'm very happy with these

Pros: Everything included for installation (although tweeter installation behind OEM grills requires a little creativity). Great sound. Well built, appear to be very durable.

Cons: None (very good product).

Had to wait 2 months to get these. Wish I canceled. Before you start, ensure you have somewhere to mount the crossover. The directions you get do NOT have instructions on where to mount the crossover. In fact the instruction are terrible. Ended up only using the bass speakers, not the tweeters. Kinda expensive for that. They do sound good in my vehicle with the JBL system.

Pros: Good sound

Cons: Modify fit to speakers holes Crossover unit Have to modify tweeters to fit

I recently purchased these speakers to replace the factory speakers in our 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK. This was my first time installing component speakers, but didn't think it should be that complicated. The general instructions were good, nothing really out of the ordinary. The challenge was, the component box that you wire into was larger than expected, so made it difficult to find significant places to apply them 'out of the way' and view. For the soundbar up top, it was a very tight snug fit. Installation took a little longer than expected, but everything was completed and system up and running. It's to early to really say, not sure the 'component' systems are any better than 2 or 3 way speakers, but will give it a few weeks and see how it goes.

Awesome speakers, they really sound great! Mounted them in the front doors of a 2008 Mazda 6. Needed to fab some adapter plates for the woofers and zip tied the tweeters in the plastic tweeter grills with some loops for the backs of pictures that have screw holes; the loops mounted to the screw hole positions for the plastic cover on the inside of the grill. Overall looks great and can't tell from the outside it's not OEM! Great price too! Thanks Crutchfield!!

Crossover picks up interference from electronic circuits

jeff from New Port Richey, FL on 5/23/2018

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The sound is great-- But they have one major drawback. The crossover provided seems to suck in the interference from my 2017 Chevy. No matter where I place the crossover in the dash area it picks up interference from the headlights and dash lights when they are on. I know it is the crossover because I can increase the sound when I move it closer to the circuits under and to the sides of the dash and floorboard kick panels.

Pros: Great price. Nice sound.

Cons: Crossover picks up interference from all major electrical circuits in my dash.

Once we saw this review, our Tech Support rep, AJ, reached out to Jeff to help with his interference issues. He'll see if relocating the crossover helps, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.

Wonderful sounding speakers. Before installing, I moved the jumper in the crossover for the tweeter level from the +6 db setting to the 0 db setting. Installation was easy and the change was well worth it. I had upgraded the speakers in my 2014 Jeep Wrangler a while back and, while better, the tweeters in those speakers were always a little too loud and just a bit harsh. The Polk's have a much smoother sound and required minimal equalization to "dial in". Installed the matching Polk 6 1/2" coaxes in the rear locations at the same time. Extremely happy with these speakers!

Pros: Smooth sound. Adjustable jumper in crossover for tweeter level

Excellent Speakers

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I'm very happy with these speakers. They replaced Polk EX365 two-way speakers that were paired with the factory door tweeters, and the difference is impressive. Nice clean and clear treble and punchy bass, even at higher volumes (driven by an Alpine amp). I followed the advice of previous reviewers and set the crossover tweeter jumper to 0 dB, and the level is just about right. It would have been nice if the factory instructions were more clear on the setting, or the default setting was 0. Three installation challenges in my particular vehicle were: 1) I needed to open up the existing tweeter opening in the door panel in order for the mounting cup to fit, 2) finding a place to mount the crossovers, which are rather large, and 3) the two different woofer adapters (6.5" to 6.75") supplied by Polk and Crutchfield were too thick to fit behind the door panel. I ended up not needing them, as I was able to use washers underneath the mounting screws to overlap just enough.

Pros: Nice clean and clear treble and punchy bass, even at higher volumes (a consistent Polk characteristic).

Cons: Installation a little more involved than I expected. Factory instructions could be better.

Hated these to begin with... then I realized they ship them with the "+6db" setting jumper installed. So the door panels and speakers came out to access the crossovers and set them to +0db, and they are MUCH better. They are a little sneaky in that they don't seem power hungry because they are quite punchy with around 20 watts RMS from a HU, but they seem to have a hard time with vocals and mids until you push them with an amp. Once I changed the jumper and installed a Clarion compact amp (very cool little amp) pushing 45 watts RMS to these speakers they are far better and much more balanced. They lack low bass of course, but the highs are smoother and the mids start to come through, and I still dig that punchy bass.

Pros: affordable, with clean highs and punchy bass

Cons: Power hungry, and default crossover settings are crazy.

I can't speak to the supplied tweeters as I have the woofers paired up with Alpine tweeters, but the woofers are great. As others have said they are better with an amp. I would actually go further and say an amp is a necessity to appreciate these woofers. I initially hooked them up to my stock stereo alone and was not happy with the results. The difference with an amp is night and day with the volume turned up at all. I have them installed in a small roadster and at least in my installation a sub is not necessary.

Pros: Loud, clear sound.

Cons: None as long as they are paired with an amp.

GREAT ALL AROUND SPEAKER!

Crutchfield customer from Liberty Hill, TX on 11/29/2017

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This series is my go to speaker. Especially the db6502. Nice bright highs, and more bass than you really would expect. These sound great even in less than ideal installations, and when used with a set of 6x9's, has enough bass that most think a sub is installed. I love these speakers and so do all of the clients I have installed them for. One caveat: They do like and need power. Those complaining about the muddy sound with their 14 watt RMS head units are thinking these speakers are the panacea for those too cheap to amplify, and get angry when they get muddy at loud volume on low watt head units. The distortion with a stock Pioneer at level 25 is extreme, and these speakers reproduce that well. Be aware of what you are getting, and plan to amplify these (optimally with 100watts RMS) to get the most volume and best sound out of these. Even 40 watts RMS works well with these, though they like more. My recommendation is the Pioneer GMD-8604 for these speakers to work the best, IMO. Good luck!

Pros: EVERYTHING

I wanted to upgrade the speakers in a Chevy Express cargo van and the salesperson suggested these. I had already set my mind on another brand and was apprehensive and the change. Given my current speakers were... awful, I went with the Polks. I'm glad I did. They produce a clear sound and don't distort when listening to music at a higher volume (it is a cargo van and a little volume helps). Everything I read prior to the install suggested the tweeter placement should be up high and facing toward you. I did just that and found the tweeters are too loud, even at -3. More research suggests moving the tweeters closer to the woofer. I would suggest temporarily mounting the tweeters in different locations prior to arriving at a final solution. Overall, I'm happy. The vehicle install hardware provided by Crutchfield was a tremendous help. Sometimes the little things mean the most.

Pros: Easy install. Perfect fit. Good sound. These make a great factory speaker upgrade.

Cons: The tweeters are a little too clear and loud. An alternate mounting location should be tried (lower and not pointed at you).

This was a good upgrade for the factory speaker set in my Honda S2000. they fit with no modification needed to the stock woofer cage and the tweeters fit in the stock locations with a simple custom back strap application. Half inch strap of aluminum about 4 inches long.

Pros: Direct fit for the Honda s2000

Pros: Easy install good sound even without an amp attached. (Yet). Found some install videos on you tube so didn't use the instructions. Really starting to like the way the radio sounds now, plenty loud going down the highway with top down.

Cons: Db gain pin set at 6 when arrived. Glad I checked it before installing.

I'm currently running these off of a Kenwood head unit (22w RMS) and they sound pretty good. But the reality is that these speakers need to be amped . I bought these because they have lower frequency response than most others because I don't plan on getting subwoofer . Going to buy Polk 6x9s for rear deck and get 4 channel 70 watt amp . It's nice that these speakers are water proof as well . It should sound awesome when I get done! The customer service people at crutchfield were cool and professional, I also recieved a free pair of Polk nue era head phones which was nice .

Pros: Affordable price , water proof , clear highs , decent low end for a component system .

Cons: Mid range is muddy and flat, hoping to solve that with an amp and some EQ fine tuning

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These are now the front door speakers in my 2012 Nissan Leaf-replacing the cheap factory speakers, which weighed about 2 ounces each. Because Polk made this a set with crossovers and tweeters which could be surface-mounted, I've also done away with the factory tweeters (which used a capacitor as its version of a crossover), and now have the Polk tweeters on the doors, closer to my ears than on the factory pillar location. Obviously, the whole frequency spectrum sounds much better than the OEM speaker set. "Muddy" described all frequencies before, not just the bass-unclear in general. I chose these speakers because they were listed to reproduce lows down to 35 Hz, which was better than most all others (certainly in a reasonable price range) Crutchfield offered-but I would say the roll-off begins, really, around 45-50 Hz. Still, they do quite well, low range, and I would have to finagle a sub into this picture to get better. And since I wanted to keep all the factory head unit's functions (which Crutchfield recommends), working in a sub would be difficult to pull off. And I downright LOVE Crutchfield's install instructions, complete with pictures. With the adapter mounts they included at no extra charge, it ended up being even easier than they said it would be. Now-to move onto the rear door speakers!

Pros: Clean sound, even from factory head unit

Cons: Woofers don't reproduce lows as well as I'd hoped-but I understand it's not a sub.

I'm very happy with these speakers. Installed in honda crv 2011 se powered by headunit kenwood dpx592bt (22w rms), first difference i noticed is clear and bright highs (i set tweeter crossovers to +3 db, because +6db was too bright for me). Mids and lows are much better comparing to factory speakers. I like how i feel cleaner bass now, because factory ones gave me that unpleasant buh-buh hit to my head. Factory had a sound "under veil", Polk gave me clear and fuller sound. Now want to replace rear ones with db652. Big thanks to crutchfield for providing free bracket- adapters for my car, it made installation for a first timer so easy (the devil/pain is always in the details).

Pros: Perfect clear sound even from headunit power Shallow enough to nicely fit into the front door

Overall, these speakers sound great! I have these installed on the factory Mygig head unit, which does lack power. Sound quality is very noticeable and a welcomed improvement from the horrific factory speakers that come in a Wrangler. The equalizer settings for bass, mid, and treble are now usable above "0". In fact, I have my bass set from "3 - 5", depending on genre. I believe most people will likely be happy with just changing the speakers to these Polk components. However, I will look into adding an amp and/or a different head unit in time. As for the install, the process went well. I lined the internal surfaces of the Wrangler speaker pods with Peel and Seal from a local hardware store to add some structure and sound deadening to the plastic shell speaker pods. I also added the poly fill behind the speakers. The crossovers fit well VHB in place inside the speaker pods of both the front and rear sound bar. The fronts seem to have a pocket that the crossover fits perfectly into. The woofer adapter rings fit perfectly to the speaker pods, no new holes were drilled. For tweeters, I cut mounting plates out of 3/16" Acrylic sheet, tracing the factory tweeters. Be sure to check speaker polarity on each speaker prior to wiring the crossover input, don't go off of wire color alone. I tested the front speakers without the sound deadening material in the front and noticed a large difference with it installed. The poly fill doesn't seem to add much benefit.

Got these speakers on a recommendation from Crutchfield. Always used Kickers, but went with the experts. They cant handle any bass at all. Popping and rattling on even any real power. I thought maybe because I was still using the stock head unit. But I dont think so. Going for my Kickers again.

Pros: good highs

Cons: tinny highs and no bass

Crutchfield response on 7/18/2017
Aftermarket speakers, like these Polks, often require more power to be effective. Factory radios often don't have the power output to do aftermarket speakers justice. When distortion occurs, many times it can be mistaken as a problem with the speakers, but it can actually be a weak amplifier, like the one in a factory radio, having trouble delivering the power that the speakers require. This is when upgrading the radio or adding an amp really allow speakers to sound their best. We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.

I bought these speakers for my Jeep Wrangler and couldn't be happier. They have incredible mids and highs and show detail my songs that I had never been able to hear before. On top of all that, they are marine grade, which is perfect for an open air Jeep. Honestly these speakers are powerful enough with an amp that you don't even need a sub. Thanks Crutchfield for some awesome speakers!

Pros: -Great mids and highs -Marine grade

Cons: Lows are really only powerful at high volumes (a sub would fix this but still isn't necessary)

All I can say is WOW! I didn't know what I was missing until installing these. The head unit is a Sony MEX-XB100BT (40w x 4 RMS). Crystal clear highs and vocals, tremendous firm bass (compared to OEM 20W poly cones). Fast, easy installation in 2005 Honda S2000 doors behind factory grills., OEM mounting brackets, and OEM spacers. The tweeters fit perfectly using factory back strap and Polk supplied surface mount cups, but I provided the #6 machine screw, nut, flat washer & lock washer (one per tweeter). No need for modifications, tape, or silicone. I opted to mount the cross-overs using four 7-inch ty-raps to the factory wire harness anchor tight against the inside door skin. this is below and forward of the OEM speaker hole. An alternate location is between the door liner and door at the lower rear corner using double-sided tape. In this vehicle, it is absolutely a game changer. You will not be disappointed (over OEM). I'm very happy with this selection and would buy again. I'm thinking of a pair for the boat.

Pros: Crystal clear vocals Awesome bass (over OEM) Tweeter easily mounted to OEM backstrap Easy installation behind factory grills No modifications required for S2000 doors Lots of hardware

Cons: price

Tweeters Crackle with Stock stereo

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

the woofers are really nice and the tweeters are crisp however I feel like I was wronged by Crutchfield. After i put these in, around 3/4 volume the tweeters start crackling. The stock speakers in my xv crosstrek did not do this at even full volume. much louder. its extremely frustrating because I thought these would be able to take much more power than my crappy stock speakers. So I called Crutchfield to ask what the heck happened only to find out that its because my Stock stereo doesnt produce enough power to send good signal to the tweeters at high volume. It seems like they tried to suck me into buy the speakers only realize I needed to now buy more equipment for these to even work properly. I feel Scammed by Crutchfield. Not the speakers fault. Service fault. Other than that, I installed myself and the directions were difficult to follow so I called Crutchfield for help and they were extremely helpful with putting them all together wiring and all. So that was a plus. I wouldnt have bought these speakers had I known I would have to buy a stereo for them also. Instead of now saving money for a subwoofer I wanted, I have to figure out a way to get these speakers to work...

Pros: Crutchfield was very helpful when I called for assistance to install it

Cons: Felt scammed because they dont work properly with my stock stereo and Crutchfield knew I wasnt changing my stereo and recommended these speakers anyway

Crutchfield response on 7/11/2017
We're sorry that you feel we misinformed you, Anthony. However, component speakers generally require more power to really make them sing. When a low-powered system, like a factory radio, is turned to higher volumes, distortion can potentially occur. This is due to the overdriving of the radio's amp while it tries to give the components the power they're looking for. One thing to try before purchasing new gear is to adjust the output level of the tweeters. Polk included a 3-level control in the crossovers. This may help with the distortion.

Great set of component speakers. Installed these in the stock location of my 2014 Subaru Outback. Crutchfield instructions were clear as usual. I did find a better way to remove head unit online. Once installed and cross over was tweaked, the sound is amazing. At first I only had time to install on the drivers side as my wife uses the car during the week. This left new speaker and tweeter on the drivers side and stock Subaru speakers/tweeter on the passenger side. Fading to the new speaker I was at first disappointed with the lack of base in the woofer. But, now that I have had time to install the remaining speakers and actually set up the cross over, I am very satisfied with the power of the speaker. The absolutely scream and the woofers put out a good bit of bass for only being a 6.5. With all levels flat I can nearly turn the stock head unit all the way up. Once I install a good after market head unit I can only imagine what the sound will be when the speakers get all of the power that they can handle, not just the wimpy output of the stock head unit.

Pros: Great sound and power handling capabilities. Simple set up.

Cons: None. Polk rocks as usual. Don't bother with other speaker brands.

I initially had these powered by my head unit (Alpine 163BT) and the sound would distort at higher volumes. I recently installed a 75 watt RMS amp and they woke up in a big way. Pros: Great highs and mids.

The speakers are good, the instructions from polk are pathetically weak! After installing, the tweeters were way too bright, and the low end was not what I had hoped for. I had put some sound absorbing material in the doors, and put those foam baffles (with the bottoms cut out) behind the woofers. After reading some online forums, I opened the doors back up , and opened the crossovers box. There are 3 different settings inside the crossover, O db, +3 db, and +6 db. !! It came from the factory with a red pin set on the +6 setting. I plugged it into the 0 db and they do sound a lot more balanced. But the instructions from Polk didn't say a word about having the option to change this! I am hoping the bass "loosens up" over time and gets a bit funkier. I am running this on my factory HU, so I am sure a power amp would boost things, I just don't have it in me to get that involved, at least for now.

Good Sound, Slightly Difficult Install

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I have purchased Polk's from Crutchfield before and that's what drew me to these speakers. I was looking for a set of component speakers to replace the stock ones in my Ford since the tweeters were crackling and on the verge of being blown out. These speakers arrived quickly and with all the necessary parts to install but the directions were slightly unclear, especially with the wiring since there are now crossovers in my system that weren't there before. I had to call Crutchfield to get the explanation on how to properly do the wiring but they helped perfectly with that. There was a slight modification that I needed to make for the tweeters to fit which hadn't be made aware for both the front and rear tweeters which wasn't in the MasterSheet. Once in the car, they sound great and the crossover makes a world of difference (since it is actually splitting the frequencies between the woofer and the tweeter unlike on the stock set up). The woofers have a nice punch to them and the tweeters help give that immersed surround sound feel in a car. These speakers sound great and I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants an upgrade to their stock set up for a decent price.

Pros: -Good sound both in tweeters and woofers -All materials provided -Customer service very helpful -Fast delivery even though it said out of stock -Much better sound quality at higher volumes

Cons: -MasterSheet was barely helpful -Inadequate wiring guide (for the harness to the crossover) -Crossovers are quite large -Install took far longer than anticipated (due to poor MasterSheet and modifications that had to be made)

Great all around woofer/speakers. Right now these are are hooked up to my factory radio, but they still bump! They are underutilized at this time but they were easy to install with the given wiring adapters and crossover. The only dislike i had with these was using self tappers to install. I'm not a big fan of having to drill into metal body panels. The clips that came with, I couldn't get to mount. I used boom mat when I put these in as well. Wonderful fit and finish. I didn't need to, nor did I use the grilles that came with. The installation instructions that came with the speakers made it clear what to do.

Pros: had to use self taping screws to mount, had to use crossover.

Cons: Sound/perform great, look great!

Woofer installation was simple with near perfect fit into existing factory opening. Bass response is very good, not muddy or lacking punch at low or high volume. I did bump up bass setting on EQ, but that was more preference than anything. Tweeters seem a little harsh around 12kHz-15kHz, but quite acceptable given the price and ability to compensate with EQ adjustment. Tweeters easily fit within factory openings; however, wiring in my car was problematic. Ended up mounting on dash by window columns which was simple. Mounts provided for the tweeters worked fine. Would be nice if the crossovers were smaller in size. Wiring connections to crossover were easy and cables provided for all speakers had connectors on one end which was convenient.

Pros: Comes with all the installation materials; good bass response; very efficient output

Cons: Tweeters slightly on the shrill side; crossovers are big

Great update for a tired system

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Purchased as OEM replacements for the front doors of my 2001 Tahoe, and the sound is beyond night-and-day better (which shouldn't be surprising, given the state of the factory cones). Either way, the installation was very easy and required a minimum of modification (on that note, the flush-mount tweeter option instructions say to use a 2" hole saw, but that's a but too large; I'd go with a 1 7/8" instead). Even with just the fronts, running behind an aftermarket Kenwood head and through the factory amp, the quality and differentiation of sound is amazing. I don't have much of a frame of reference as to other speakers, but I would not steer someone considering these, away from them. The crossover has a jumper for adjusting treble gain at +0, +3, and +6 dB; they came from the factory set to +6, which was way too high for me. If you're installing the crossovers in a hard-to-reach location, I'd recommend adjusting this setting first, before buttoning everything up.

Pros: Easy to install (for the most part); excellent staging and separation, even behind the factory amp. Adjustable treble jumper is a nice touch.

Cons: Adjustable treble jumper in crossover can be hard to access, and mounting the crossovers themselves can be awkward, especially for in-door installations.

I installed these in the front doors of a 2005 GMC Sierra Crew-cab and Polk DB652s in the back doors. The 6 3/4" speakers installed easily in both the front and rear doors, but the tweeters required some modification of the door panels (can't tell any modification was made though). The cross-over that connects the tweeters and mid-range speakers was easily hidden inside the door panels with a little double-back tape. If you are looking for a rugged speaker that sounds great and don't have a fortune to spend, these are definitely worth it.

Polk components were absolutely the right choice for my Kenwood head unit. Base is perfect without an external amp. Tweeters provide a crisp high range. These components have loosened up after a few weeks and romp at upper volume and are sweet at mid range. Love them! L.p.

Pros: Easy install, perfect fit, all hardware included, get better over time!

Cons: Can't think of any

Wow! So after my initial purchase of a different brand that I returned and replaced with these I'm truly impressed. What a difference. The sound quality is great in my 2007 Tundra. Everything is great from the way they sound the the way the tweeters mount. If there's anything to gripe about the included speaker wire could have been longer but that's more of an issue my my particular set up. I came across these speakers through a recommendation from an adviser with Crutchfield. I'd suggest talking with an advisor before you order they can help recommend options that you might not be aware of.

Pros: Sound quality, mounting variety for the tweeters

Cons: Could use longer speaker wires

I rate the speakers as good, would like a bit more bass from the woofer, tweeter is bright, overall better than original MINI front door speakers. An amp would be a good choice. Installed Dynamat that should have helped the bass. This order included two sets of mounting brackets neither of which was even close to workable. I ended up calling tech support and tried to get some ideas from them, basically they said try to make something work. The MINI woofers are built into the spacer/brackets. I ended up cutting out the speakers, milling the spacer to remove where the speaker attached. The original spacer edge then fit into a depression on the back outer circumference of the Polk woofer. I then used silicone adhesive to attach the speaker to the spacer and cured overnight. I could then screw it into the door opening. The tweeters came with a few options . After much cutting and dremeling i ended up flattening the metal spring "cross" to hold them into the original plastic piece that had to be put back as it also contains the door latch handle. Just enough room to put the rather large cross-over box to fit behind door panel. The site and the salesperson said this system FITS the '03-05 MINI. Good luck if you are not really handy and have the tools. A couple of online videos on this good idea to watch them.

Pros: Good sound, better than original Fitment issues not Polks' fault

Cons: Large cross-over box. Big fitment challenge, provided spacers useless, tech support and sales unaware of the issues for this application.

Excellent product. I did a lot of research before settling on this set of Polk Component speakers. Running off of a Subaru OEM unit for now, certainly lacks bass but I will be installing an Alpine under seat powered sub to add the low end. Overall speakers are clear, crisp and bright. I've noticed a huge difference in the first week so it definitely needs a break-in period for a mature sound. I also added Polk DB651 coaxials to the back of the car.

Pros: Super clear, decent price. Great sound.

Cons: Lack of low end sound, however this could be due to OEM head unit. Adding a underseat sub to help with this issue.

The Polk Audio DB6502 made a big difference in my 2002 GMC Denali truck, they sound fantastic! Even with the factory stereo, however, I replaced that too with a Pioneer head unit...awesome combination! Now to find a place for an amp and sub! Perfect midrange and highs...well, the tweeters are a little bright, but with a little equalizer adjustment, they sound great. The install was a piece of cake. Just mount the speakers to the Metra 82-3002 Speaker Mounting Brackets, and pop in. The tweeters required some modification to install. All the research I did stated I had only one 6-1/2" two way speaker in the front doors...well not my truck! It has a separate factory tweeter with its own mounting plate. I had to cut out the molded form for the tweeter to 1-3/4" for the new tweeter mounting cup. After that, the rest of the install was easy. Once I get an amp installed, these Polk speakers will sound even better, but I'm happy for now. I wonder what it would sound like if I added some sound deadening material to the inside of the doors???

Pros: Awesome sound Easy to install...with the right parts (Metra 82-3002 Speaker Mounting Brackets) Nice design and well built

Cons: The tweeters are a bit bright, but an EQ will fix that

I cannot honestly review these speakers, as I do not have them hooked to an amp that supplies close to their rated power. Still running them off of my Kenwood head unit. Had a significant reduction in bass output vs the stock Audi speakers (non-bose). The larger coils are less efficient than the smaller ones that originally came on the car, and had to add a sub I had laying around to supplement the lack of bass. My $0.02 is to wait to install these till you have the amplifier wired up and ready to go, otherwise you'll be disappointed. I can tell they are made of quality materials, the subwoofer cone is stiff and the magnet is large. Finding a place to mount the crossover was a bit of a challenge, but that will all depend on your vehicle.

These speakers were mounted in my 2010 Jeep Wrangler, and they are a huge improvement over the stock speakers. For the money, these are going to be hard to improve on. The sound is very clean, crisp, and natural. Inspire if the open air environment of the Jeep, which has its acoustic challenges to make a good sound stage, these overcome that and make you almost feel like being at a concert. I would definitely recommend this line of Polk speakers, and is actually my second vehicle to receive the DB model line. My first vehicle has had them installed for over 10 years and more than 200k miles and still sound great.

Pros: Cost, great highs.

Cons: Super frustrating install experience on a Jeep JK.

Crutchfield response on 11/22/2016
One of Crutchfield's Tech Support gurus reached out to this customer. The distortion may actually be caused by the amplifier overworking to drive these Polk speakers. We call this clipping. These speakers can handle 100 watts RMS, so added power in the form of an amplifier can help them perform to their potential, increase the volume and bass response, and eliminate any distortion from clipping.

Removed door panel again because I felt there was still a little distortion in the sound from my original install of the db6502. Remounted to the Crutchfield provided speaker bracket, this time using mounting points which placed the screws directly against the surround material as another reviewer mentioned. I do not think this will be a problem, though. I'm sure Polk tested durability of the speaker mounted as designed. At any rate, this removed some unwanted vibration between the speakers and the mount/door, which improved the sound. While the door panel was off, I also added additional sound dampening material directly behind the speaker "inside" the door. I had previously added sound dampening material around the "front" part of the door panel, which would be the interior surface when the door is closed. Now I was placing the sound dampening material against the exterior surface of the door. This reduced road noise further and definitely improved the sound of the speakers! I'm still only using the Chevy stock head unit, so I still start to hear some distortion when I turn up the volume above 50 - 70%, but I'm fairly certain that's just due to lack of power and quality of the head unit. Dynamat or other sound dampening material behind the speaker is definitely recommended! Overall, I'm loving the sound quality of the speakers - tightening the mounting also helped. I'm wondering if it would help to add some sound dampening under the A-pillars for tweeters too...

Pros: Great sound!

Cons: Mounting holes do place screws directly touching speaker surround. But I don't think is a cause of concern.

The mounting on these were a little tricky only because of the added crossover module and because the tweeters were a different design that the factory ones. But a slight modification to the factory tweeter mounting bracket and a couple zip ties for the crossover and everything worked fine. The sound quality is great...now... But initially I thought there was something wrong with them. I just needed to tweak the EQ in the head unit to better match the frequency and output level of the speakers. Once that was set, they sound great!

Pros: Sound quality once outputs were adjusted. Construction overall seemed what I would expect for the price.

Cons: None really. Initially I thought the high frequency output was too loud and overpowering but after some adjustments to the EQ, they sound great.

Speakers sound great and provide a plenty of great mid and high-range sound quality. Rating as 2 stars due to a very frustrating install. Crutchfield claims these are a direct fit for my 2004 Subaru WRX....They Are Not! And to make matters more frustrating, the install instructions that Polk provides in the box are near worthless. They tell you to go to their website for install instructions. I head there and there's "no literature available for your speakers." There are 30+ pieces of hardware in the box that you are basically left to figure out how to install yourself. To top it off, I wound up having to drill new holes into my door to mount the speakers because nothing lined up. Bottom line: Great sound quality but really frustrating install experience.

Great sounding upgrade

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Bought these speakers as first step in car audio system upgrade of 2007 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab (non-Bose) pickup. Rear speakers in used truck were blown when I bought it, so I removed them. Front stock speakers were very lacking in bass and just didn't sound great. My plan is to eventually install a new head unit, front and rear speakers, then a 5-channel amp and low-profile 10" subwoofer. I purchased the Polk Audio DB6502 based on the Crutchfield adviser's information that this new speaker from Polk is efficient enough to work well and sound good with stock/OEM head units as low as 2W RMS per channel, yet can handle up to 100W RMS per channel when paired with a dedicated amplifier. Installed them, along with acoustic dampening material on the door and they sound phenomenal!!! I'm still only listening to them through the OEM head unit, so probably with 10 - 13W RMS per channel, but they sound clear and crisp. The tweeters have options for 0dB, +3dB, and +6dB settings for "brightness" and I have mine set in the middle at +3dB. I definitely plan to add a pair of the 2-way version of these speakers, the Polk Audio DB652 as my rear speakers. Then as Stage 2, I'll replace the OEM with an aftermarket head unit, possibly a Kenwood Excelon. Hopefully at some point after that I can add a 5-channel amp and a low-profile 10" 4-ohm dual voice coil subwoofer to complete the system. Thanks, Crutchfield for answering dozens of questions on multiple phone calls b4 I ordered!

Pros: Excellent sound, even from low-power OEM head unit. Clean, with good full range of sound. Sound doesn't distort when I turn it up with low-powered OEM head unit.

Cons: Component speaker install more difficult than 2-way speaker install. (Worth it, though!)

Polk's improved DB6502's leave much to be desired as does Crutchfield. I chose to update my ruined, Crutchfield purchased DB6501's, due to a failed experience with a Crutchfield advisor's advice. The Crutchfield advisor was advocating selling me brackets to fit my DB6501's in a 2005 Civic Si. Unfortunately I found out that the woofers would in fact come into contact with the door card and destroy the woofer surround. I opted to give Crutchfield one last shot to make things right, I was again let down. My complaints/concerns to Crutchfield have been less than exemplary and at no point did they offer to repair the damaged woofers due to their advocates negligence. I took matters into my own hands and purchased this set only to again be disappointed. These speakers do NOT match up with the plastic adapter plate provided by Crutchfield and equally concerning is the fact that the mounting holes are less than 1/16th between the woofer surround and the screw, leading to premature wear as the woofer exercises while playing, rubbing up on the screw. Taking my time, I could see no foreseeable way to mount these into my vehicle given the clearance between the mounting points and woofer surround. The previous DB6501's had their mounting points further away from the woofer surround. The tweeters were noticeably smaller than the DB6501's and the overall fit, finish and feel just felt cheap which is disappointing. This will be my last purchase of Polk from Crutchfield.

Pros: Price

Cons: Mounting hardware sub-par, mounting holes too close to woofers surround, extra holes in ring of speaker that either need to be plugged up or be prepared to hear excessive noise and air whistling through them. Cheap plastic grille offering little to no protection if surface mounting and not using factory grilles.

What great sound and water proof to boot for a jeep that has its top off 9 months out of the year. If you're a jeep owner these are a must buy for the dash.

Pros: Great sound and a great price.

Features

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Woofer Mounting: The woofer baskets have multiple mounting holes and are designed to fit standard 3-hole 6-1/2, Ford's 4-hole 6-1/2, and 6-3/4 applications. (A speaker baffle should be used to seal the inner ring of screw holes in 6-3/4 installations.) The included adapter brackets can be used to fit many specialized factory speaker applications. The brackets are also useful as a spacer in shallow locations; the brackets add 0.232" to the woofers' mounting height and subtract 0.232" from the mounting depth. Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Tweeter Mounting: The supplied mounting cups allow you to surface or flush mount the tweeters. The tweeters swivel slightly in the flush mount housings, allowing you to adjust them for optimum imaging.

Tweeter Mounting Dimensions:

  Flush Mount Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.314" 0.884"
Mounting Depth 0.731" screw depth
Cutout Diameter 1.780" N/A
Frame Diameter 2.135" 1.75"

Crossover: The outboard crossovers have screw terminal inputs and outputs (0.3" wide). A jumper inside each crossover allows you to adjust the tweeter output level; choose 0 dB, +3 dB, or +6 dB. There are two screw holes in the base of each crossover for mounting.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Width: 2.6"
  • Height: 1.2"
  • Depth: 4.73"

Marine Certification: Polk speakers are marine certified, making them a good choice for boats in fresh water, convertibles, motorcycles, ATVs, and other applications where the speaker might get wet. Because they have coated steel baskets, the terminals are not covered, and the crossovers are not sealed, we do not recommend using them in salt water environments.

I chose the polk audio db6502 because they are rated to perform well with a factory head unit or with higher wattage as well. also, because they are rated well in regards to frequency response (down to 35 hertz) and I expect this will improve their output in the low end (I want a subwoofer, but these mids and highs are going into a work vehicle and I don't think there will ever be room for it). [ D  Dec 04, 2017 ]

I have a 1996 Chrysler Sebring LXI Coupe. In my younger years I had (18 speakers, 5 amps, elec crossover, sound processor, truck alternator, isolator, 2 batteries and a 51 disc CD Player (voice controlled) in this car. I was ALL IN!!! But now that I'm much older I'm trying desperately to hold on to what little hearing I have left. I now have 1 amp, 3-ways in the deck and components in the front. The components went out several years ago, but somehow it just wasn't important to me anymore. [ Willie  Aug 13, 2017 ]

I run a Pioneer amp that throws out 100 watts rms at 4ohm. These speakers match that perfectly and they are more equalizer friendly since they sound more flat than most other speaker which tend to push on you Highs, mids or lows too much, therefore allowing you to tailor the sound more efficiently on any genre. Plus, you get legendary Polk Audio quality here which you can spot on has soon has you open de box! You can't go wrong with proven aftermarket audio! [ Alex  Apr 26, 2017 ]

Used to have Polk Momo 6.5" components in Nissan Altima in 2001-2002. Fabulous sound, would be similar to Polk MM6501 today. Current system has less power. These components are efficient enough they should sound very good with stock head unit in my 2007 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab (New Body Style). Then they will sound GREAT with the Kenwood DDX6902S head unit as the next upgrade, and then they will sound FABULOUS with a 5-channel amp feeding them 70 - 100W per channel!!! I want component speakers by Polk, and these have small tweeters that may fit my factory tweeter locations (1" tweeters in the DB6501 are too large). [ Brandon  Jun 15, 2016 ]

When the JBLs disappointed, Polk came right to mind. These have outstanding low freq response, and with the new design (zero tweeter protrusion), they should work in my doors. [ Karl  Jun 03, 2016 ]

Q
I have a clarion xc2510 amp rated at 50 watts continuous when each channel is directly connected to an individual speaker. I'm concerned this won't be enough for these speakers. I believe I could also bridge channels to provide 150 watts continuous. Would you recommend this? Thanks!
[ Matt  Jun 01, 2019 ]
1 answer
A
These speakers are very efficient and can work with various amounts of power for different levels of performance. Also, you are correct that your amp can output 150 watts RMS x 2 channel when bridged. It has a gain control too. So you could run it that way, adjust the gain so the amp does not overpower these speakers and get the best sound they can deliver. My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

Q
I don't plan on upgrading the factory head unit. Do I risk damaging anything hooking up the factory head unit to these speakers/tweeters/crossovers? Or will I just suffer with not maximizing the speaker's potential?
[ Frank Jerome  Mar 29, 2019 ]
3 answers
A
I have a factory head unit with a line out converter to an amp running these speakers. I don't think adding them to a factory head unit will hurt them but they won't be at their full potential.
[ Robert  Apr 06, 2019 ]
A
Hey Frank! You're definitely not going to damage anything. As of right now i have my 6502s hooked up to an aftermarket JVC head unit. They sound good but I'll tell ya they'd sound a lot better with an amplifier on them. I have a 100x4 JBL that I'm going to hook up to them just haven't had the time. I think my head unit is rated at something like 15w x4. In my opinion keep your head unit and get an amplifier and make the speakers perform the way they were designed to perform. Hope this helps.
[ VINCE  Apr 06, 2019 ]
A
No they will work. But I would recommend getting an amp or a aftermarket head unit to power them.

How long are the wires attached to the tweeters?
[ Peter  Oct 17, 2018 ]

I did that car with those a year ago I have forgotten how long for sure but I can tell you if the Tweeter is going to be over 24 in away from the mid-range. You might have to extend them

Q
Will the supplied crossover filter out the signal below 85 hz or should I set the high pass filter on my amp to 85 hz?
[ RockOn  Jul 03, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
In this case you would set your amplifier's high-pass filter at 85 Hz. The included 2-way crossover designed to take the signal from your amp/head unit and separate the highs out to the tweeters, and lows to the woofers. Polk doesn't specify the crossover point for the DB 6502 speakers; but it's typically in the 3.5kHz-5kHz range for 6-1/2" component speakers. For more details or to discuss further please contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Hope that helps! :)

[ Mikey  Apr 16, 2018 ]

The crossovers are passive as they do not require their own power supply, getting what power they require from the speaker wires.

Which wire on the tweeter is positive? The tweeter has two black wires, one with white strip on large spade. I know the large spade on the woofer is positve, but it connects to gray wire with no strip. In other words the tweeter wiring is not consistant: gray with stripe = lagre spade, tweeter black with strip = small spade??

Can you run these without the supplied crossover?
[ Randy  Mar 08, 2018 ]

I'm sure you could but the sound/quality you just paid for will be gone. The crossover tells each speaker what sounds to play with out it your tweets will try and play bass which will ruin them.

Q
I don't know if this applies to full range and component speakers, but reading one of Crutchfield's educational articles about subwoofers (top rms) powered by 75% to 150% amps rms for matching performance. I'm wondering if I can power the Polk Audio DB6502 with a JL Audio Slash 300/2, witch puts out 150 rms x 2 of power?
[ G  Nov 11, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
It's always a good idea to match the RMS power handling of the speaker to the RMS output of the amp. If you "baby" the speakers with an amp rated at more RMS power you'll probably be ok but these speakers are very efficient and will not need more power than called for. My advice....get a 100 watt amp and you can't go wrong.
[ James  Nov 13, 2017 ]
Q
Would these be overpowered by a bridged 5 channel pioneer gd9605 2x150 rms 4 ohms?
[ Marcos  Sep 25, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
Yes if the amp you list is rated at 150 watts rms per channel. The db6502's are rated to handle 100 watts rms so any bridging will only increase the power to the speakers. It's always best to match a speakers rated rms power handling to the amps rms power output with the impedance (ohms) the same.

Q
with this package do i need to buy extra speaker wire or will the wire included be enough to run throughout the car?
[ noah  Mar 28, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
Thanks for your question. This will depend on your vehicle. If you are connecting to the factory wiring at the speaker location then there should be plenty of wire included. If you are running completely new wire all the way to the head unit then additional wire may be required. If you have additional questions I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question.

Q
If the tweeter is 4 ohms and the woofer is also 4 ohms, when you hook them up to the crossover and then power them with an amplifier will the load that the amplifier sees then be 2 ohms?
[ Tim  Feb 12, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
The Polk Audio DB6502 component speakers will still present a 4-ohm load to your amplifier. The tweeters and woofers are connected individually to the crossovers, (which filters high frequencies to the tweeters and mids/lows to the woofers) so the impedance shown to your amp remains 4-ohm. If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
These speakers don't show a minimum impedance. Is it possible to run them at a 2ohm load?
[ F Rojas  Jan 28, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
It's my understanding of audio systems that the speakers in the system are the load, and therefore will be the 4 ohms listed by polk. An amp set up to handle a 2 ohm load (speaker) will do fine with a 4 ohm speaker as the current draw will be lower.
[ James  Jan 28, 2017 ]
Q
The included tweeter mounts, both flush or surface versions, are extremely hard to get the tweeter into. It is basically a one-time press fit (and do not press on the tweeter grill!). It appears to me that once pressed in either mount, you'd then have to damage either the tweeter or the mounting surface in order to remove them. Am I missing something, or is this what others have used these mounts experienced as well?
[ Joe  Jan 14, 2017 ]

I've had to take my tweeters out since installing them and although it required finesse, I did it without any damage to driver or mount. I used a long thin screwdriver and pushed it out from the back side VERY CAREFULLY.

Yes, that is what we found. That is, the tweeters will be damaged if they have to be removed.

I have the DB6502s in my rear doors (with the tweeters in the front), and a pair of DB 692s in the front. The receiver is a Sony MEX-XB100BT, Class-D, 40wRMS (100wPEAK) x 4. I'm using the receiver's feature that uses the rear speakers kinda like subs to supplement bass from the fronts. It gets loud enough for me, but at 56 I'm not trying to pulsate the doors. At full volume, there is not a trace of distortion unless the bass is turned up to absurd levels. I have little doubt that they would handle 100wRMS as specified, and they would be loud enough for anybody, but some might want more bass and need a separate subwoofer (I once had an Infinity Basslink that was AWESOME, for my musical taste). It all depends on whether your goal is good clean music now and being able to hear when you're 50, or if you want to thump today and say "huh?" all the way through your golden years. You might go to 150wRMS for some additional headroom for bass in the amp, but you'd have to be careful to never turn it up all the way. Remember: When you get distortion, it is most often because the amp is not powerful enough and it is clipping -- NOT because the speakers are distorting. But sure, you can pump the coil straight out of the magnet if you try hard enough. I had first tried some Infinity speakers and was *shockingly* disappointed. These speakers sound VERY good. Highly Recommended.

I'm currently using an Arc Audio KS 300.4, non bridged 90 watts for each channel.

I would go with an amp that delivers at least 75% of the maximum RMS rating or better.

Thanks for your question. You'll find this information on the product page under "Product Highlights". The system handles up to 100 watts RMS (300 watts peak power). Hope that helps.
