Honed Polk perfection

These DB652 2-way speakers feature a 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer cone with a strong rubber surround for solid playback and resilience under the environmental stress that comes with living in your car doors. A 3/4" silk dome tweeter delivers smooth highs with precision to give you a vibrant soundstage, while a built-in crossover keeps the highs and lows flowing to the proper drivers.

Handles up to 100 watts RMS

With power handling up to 100 watts RMS, you'll do fine driving this system with an aftermarket receiver, but these speakers will reach peak performance if you power them with a nice amp.

Cool looks, rugged construction

Polk includes mounting hardware, along with boldly designed grilles that add flare to your vehicle's interior if you're doing a custom installation. These speakers are marine certified, too, so they're a great choice for open-top vehicles or even fresh water and powersports applications.

Features

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Mounting: The speaker baskets have multiple mounting holes and are designed to fit standard 3-hole 6-1/2, Ford's 4-hole 6-1/2, and 6-3/4 applications. (A speaker baffle should be used to seal the inner ring of screw holes in 6-3/4 installations.) The included adapter brackets can be used to fit many specialized factory speaker applications. The brackets are also useful as a spacer in shallow locations; the brackets add 0.232" to the speakers' mounting height and subtract 0.232" from the mounting depth. Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Marine Certification: Polk speakers are marine certified, making them a good choice for boats in fresh water, convertibles, motorcycles, ATVs, and other applications where the speaker might get wet. Because they have coated steel baskets and the terminals and crossover components are not covered, we do not recommend using them in salt water environments.

Q
My 2002 Camaro door speakers have 4 wires. How do I connect these speakers?
scott  Aug 10, 2023
1 answer
A
Your 2002 Camaro will require special consideration in order to replace the door speakers. Due to the nature of the factory Monsoon audio system, in order to replace the factory speakers, you will also need to replace the factory radio and bypass the factory amplifier. For personalized help with this project, please reach out to our advisors via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
Are the tweeters fixed or can you adjust the angle?
darrell  Jan 28, 2023
1 answer
A
The tweeters on the silky-smooth Polk Audio DB 652's are fixed, Darrell. For something with an aimable tweeter, consider the JBL CLub 625SQ's in the link below. These are a bit deeper than the Polks so you will have to check fit in your specific vehicle on our website, but they will give you the ability to dial-in the tweeter position! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_109CL625SQ/JBL-Club-625SQ.html

Q
I have a 2018 F 150. I am think of replacing my speakers with DB 652 for front and back. However, should I consider mix and matching? Put the 652s up front and a different speaker in back? Or visa versa. Already replaced the head unit with Kenwood DMX 709s. Just want to get the most out of it without breaking the bank.
j mo mo  Oct 15, 2022
1 answer
A
For the most balanced sound, it is ideal to go with a matching pair in both locations. Some people do like to experiment with different models and speaker materials to see how that might affect your sound.

Q
I would like the replace the factory JBL door speakers in my 2019 Toyota Avalon Limited (retain the factory head unit and amp). The factory speakers are 2 ohm, all of the "speakers that fit" are all 4 ohm speakers. Should that be a concern for me?
alvin  Aug 30, 2022
1 answer
A
This really depends a lot on how you listen now, Alvin. If you have lower impedance speakers in your ride you would just have to turn the volume knob up a little louder with 4 ohm speakers. You can also use a speaker like this Infinity Reference REF-6532ex in the link below. These are closer to 3 ohms and are great options for folks with lower impedance factory speaker setups! Most replacements that we advise as a fit should sound fantastic Alvin, no worries there! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108R6532EM/Infinity-Reference-REF-6532ex.html

Q
My 98 Jeep Cherokee (XJ, 2 Door) has 5.25" factory speakers, but I've been reading that 6.5" would fit. Would these work, and would I have to do any modification?
bb014  Aug 24, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings BB014, and thank you for your question. You can install either a 5.25 inch or a 6.5 inch speaker in the 1998 Cherokee. No modifications, but you will, be only using 2 of the 4 screws to hold them in unless you are in the mood to fabricate a mounting adapter.

Q
I am getting motorcycle lower fairings w a 2' mount depth and 5' cutout. Will these speakers work?
robert  Feb 05, 2022
1 answer
A
In my case, the cutout diameter was 4.5", but because my mounting depth was less than the 1 13/16" the speaker requires, I needed to add a half inch spacer which had an inside diameter of about 5". I suspect that a 5" hole with 2" depth will work OK.

Unless you forgot to mention it, are you installing a subwoofer? If not you definitely need to because these speakers will not provide you with any type of low frequency bass. I would recommend the JL Audio XD700/5v2 with a 10" subwoofer. This amp will run everything without breaking a sweat. I recently installed one along with these Polk series 6.5 & 5.25. So 4 speakers total & 1 subwoofer & it sounded amazing. I was blown away at how much power that little amp packs & I've been installing car audio for 20 years.
jl junkie  Mar 03, 2022
A
Run the more powerful amp. Use one with more power than any of the speakers need. You can turn down the gain at the amp, and adjust it to prevent overpowering the speakers.
wyman  Feb 04, 2022
A
I don't think it is necessary to exceed the speakers rms rating and so I think the JL audio amp is plenty.
curtis l  Jan 23, 2022
Q
Can I run these at 2 ohms if my amp is rated for it? I know they say 4 Ohms nominal.
joe  Nov 02, 2021
1 answer
A
This is a question of the amplifier's capability. The speaker impedance ( 4 Ohm ) is a factor of the design of the speaker only. In order to achieve a 2 Ohm load using a 4 Ohm speaker, you would need to run TWO 4 Ohm speakers in parallel. Example: two 8 Ohm speakers wired in parallel would present a 4 Ohm load to the amplifier. So two 4 Ohm speakers wired in parallel would present a 2 Ohm load to the amplifier. IF your amplifier can handle the lower impedance presented when you run TWO 4 Ohm speakers in parallel which would equal the 2 Ohm load, then YES you can run these speakers just fine. Again it is not the speaker that will determine this, but the amplifier. These are excellent speakers in any configuration with great sound and very efficient. Hope that helps !

Are the grilles paintable?
jeffery  Aug 30, 2021
3 answers
A
To begin with ANYTHING can be paintable. It doesn't matter if it is metal, plastic or even wood. On my particulat application my Polk Audio DB 652 were installed in the door behind the original factory door panel and grill for a cleaner look. These are excellent speakers. I hope this helps.
albert  Aug 31, 2021
A
Yes, the grilles are plastic so I'm sure you'd be able to paint them.
alex  Aug 31, 2021
A
The grilles are plastic, so I would consult with a paint contractor for advice on application and durability. The grilles are open design which means that you can see the black speakers behind. Hope this helps.

Q
I'm looking to upgrade the speakers in my 2006 Toyota Tundra Double cab with the JBL Premium system. I have already replaced the head unit with a Kenwood DMX905S and wired it to continue using the original amp from my system. I see that I need 2 Ohm speakers to maintain the volume level. I am looking at the Powerbass 2 ohm 6 1/2 woofers to replace the front speakers, Will I lose volume in the rears if I use the Polk Audio DB 652's?
tim  Nov 17, 2020
3 answers
A
The Polk Audio 652s are 4-ohm speakers, if you replace the 2-ohm OEM speakers with 4-ohm speakers you will notice a volume drop.
thomas  Dec 03, 2020 (Staff)
A
That depends on a number of factors. Does what impedance were your OEM speakers. Some OEM JBL speakers are of an odd impedance. The Polks sound great. They don't put out a lot of bass but they don't distort the bass with a good clean signal and enough power. Far, far better than those OEM JBLs. They are only 4-ohm so that has to be factored in with your choice of the 2-ohm Powerbass. I take it that you will have these upfront in the doors and Polks in the back. If the amp is sequentially powered in the front/back channels, then the 2-ohm load will provide roughly twice the power of the backs at 4-ohm. Location distance will also factor. Perhaps your head unit has time alignment and level sets. Honestly, all you really need is a wide front sound stage with good presence and the rear just providing ambiance. I had a competition level 92' Mercury Sable Wagon that I used to showcase our product when I was Branch salesman for Metra Electronics back in the mid 90s. I used the OEM Ford 6 inch rear paper cone speakers getting clean 50watt RMS from a sweet Blaupunkt for rear ambiance, with a switch to a rear soundstage when I open the rear hatch for demonstrations at out booths to directly showcase the product.

Q
Should the tweeters be installed in the back as well. How will it be put in if no spot or area for the tweeter?
aldo  Mar 31, 2020
2 answers
A
The DB652 is a coaxial pair of speakers and the tweeter is part of the speaker's structure. I think you might be thinking of a component set which has separate woofers and tweeters. In a case like that, you can pretty much mount the tweeters however you'd like, utilizing the included hardware most manufacturers supply with their speaker sets.
jeremy  Apr 14, 2020
A
The dB 652 in my Escape are installed In the lower door where the factory speakers were. The tweeter is part of the speaker. Not separate.

is this product (Polk Audio DB 652) can I fix to my Corolla 2006 wagon's rear door to factory default frame? how is the BASS quality while comparing with factory default ones
fah777  Jan 08, 2019

A
OK, first off I don't know if these speakers are a direct replacement. I had to use an adapter. It worked fine. I'm going to say they are better than factory. Polk makes great stuff. I have them in the back seat package tray of my 2007 Honda Civic, and they run off a pioneer amp (it's a speaker wire driven amp not a pre-amp driven unit, but it works well). I have the factory head unit, and it's the premier top line from Honda. I also have the factory sub woofer in the package tray (that probably leaves a bit to be desired). I have a new set of front door speakers (nothing fancy but way better than stock). The whole system volume runs from 0 to 35 and sounds rather well (concidering the cost is about $500). I'm 60 and I still love to rock out with the windows down and the sunroof open - and those Polk rear speakers have served me well for their cost. I don't know what you listen to for music, but if I'm driving down the road and I slap on some Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy Kashmire then all is good. My factory speakers deteriorated, came apart due to weather. Those polks are 4-5 years old and still sound awesome. They were well worth the investment. Will they rattle your trunk lid and shake your quarter panels? Probably not - but they should hold 100w and I drive 60w through them all day long and the sound great. Plus, they are made with marine quality stuff so here in humid Florida I know I'll not have to change them out in a few years. Hope that answers your question.
bruce  Jan 13, 2019
A
Well everyone has their own take on what sounds good. So along with the speakers I have a kenwood receiver so double the effect yes they are way better than factory speakers

I have a 2005 Mitsu. Outlander. I've recently my 2 front door speakers due to rain coming down from the windshield. How water resistant are these speakers and are these the right ones to solve my problem or is there something else I can do to solve it?
francis  Nov 20, 2018
2 answers
A
On my Scion xB the window trim that blocks water has begun to deteriorate and looks like it allows water into the door. I've haven't ran into any issues yet, but feel more confident knowing these are water resistant in case they get wet.
zach  Nov 20, 2018
A
I assume that by "windshield" you mean the door windows. They can withstand moisture. If the doors are stock they should have a clear plastic sheet affixed on the door frame. This is a water barrier protecting the door panels and speakers. Any door speaker is an open construction and must be protected from water. If the clear plastic water sheets are missing or are torn, I suggest you replace them at the same time you install your new Polks. They are "honest" speakers and you will enjoy years of performance if you take care of them.

How is the bass?
randy  Apr 18, 2018
3 answers
A
I'd agree with the above answer. I prefer a balanced sound and don't like the bass to be artificially increased. That being said - bass on these speakers was a significant improvement over OEM, mids and highs are also great with a very crisp/clear sound. Very happy.
nathan p  May 24, 2021
A
I just put these in our boat with a relatively low power and they're doing fine bass is wonderful good balance with the mids and highs
high av  Aug 04, 2019
A
The bass is about that of an Infinity. Your mid and high frequencies come out extremely clear, while still maintaining a good deep bass sound. The clarity is more of what I am impressed with with these speakers while maintaining a decent bass sound that is not overly overwhelming to the point where I have to sound proof my vehicle due the door panel vibrations.

These speakers definitely do have a crossover built in to distribute the audio to the 2 drivers. However, we do not know the frequency being used. Q
I have a 2008 Honda Accord with separate, factory tweeters on the upper part and woofers on the lower part of each front door. Is it possible to use these Polk Audio speakers and still retain the use of the tweeter, or will I have a problem with the crossover? Currently, it is actually just the rear speakers that sounds muddy and needs replacing. The front speakers sounds ok, but I would also change out all the speakers at the same time. Would I actually need to go with component speakers for the front?

You do not have to use component speakers. The factory speakers in the lower door and rear deck still get a full-range signal so, you can install the Polk DB652 in both locations if need be. These speakers actually use less depth than the db651s model. Also, these speakers need almost exactly the same mounting height so they should fit in place of the db651s speakers. HTH! My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

It means they filter either Low, mids, highs frequencies just by connecting them between the speakers and the sound source (stereo). The ones on this speakers are welded or soldered in the speaker. Right past the connection you just have to plug in the wires the speaker comes with. Also maybe you should give out more details when asking a question. Are you buying extra passive filters? . Does the speaker have passive filters?. DETAILS BABY, DETAILS!!

screw on. The speakers come with a plastic type of padapting plate that is 9 by 6 if your OEM speakers are 9 by 6. So that you can adapt the 6 inch speakers to it. These speakers have good mid bass by the way.
