Stellar performers

If you're building your new system on a budget, Polk Audio's DB+ Series speakers are a dynamite value as well as being stellar performers. Their journey to excellence begins with a laser-imaged design that ensures minimal distortion, a smooth response, and incredible sonic detail.

Honed Polk perfection

These DB652 2-way speakers feature a 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer cone with a strong rubber surround for solid playback and resilience under the environmental stress that comes with living in your car doors. A 3/4" silk dome tweeter delivers smooth highs with precision to give you a vibrant soundstage, while a built-in crossover keeps the highs and lows flowing to the proper drivers.

Handles up to 100 watts RMS

With power handling up to 100 watts RMS, you'll do fine driving this system with an aftermarket receiver, but these speakers will reach peak performance if you power them with a nice amp.

These speakers carry a lot of base.

Pros: 300 watt Max. Loud enough with just 1 set in the back door so far to rattle my side mirrors.

Cons: I wish the highs were a little better, but I can get a pair if tweeters for that.

These speakers are very good for the price. They are transparent and listenable throughout the spectrum. I cannot say how they would fair with stock setup but paired with my aftermarket Pioneer headunit they sound fantastic. Way better than my nephews Kickers (he has the same HU).

Marshall and Dakota were quite helpful 5 stars. However, I am not hearing that big of difference from these speakers vs stock speakers as Marshall explained I would. The radio is a Kenwood DMX7705S. Perhaps it's the radio settings but Dakota explained how to adjust. Maybe I had to high of sound expectations in my jeep.

Very good value for a pair of speakers that can handle 100W RMS. Top performing? Yes. Best sounding? Not quite but they're still very good. I first tried a pair for my front door, liked them, so I got another pair for the rear doors. I have the speakers paired to an Alpine KTP4R5U amplifier which delivers 45W RMS to each of the speakers. The speakers can handle up to 100W RMS but even at 45W RMS they sound really good. Another feature I like is that these speakers are weather resistant so I don't have to worry about rain accidentally drenching them.

Pros: Loud and clear

Polk Audio 6.5 DB Series speakers

Outstanding sound over factory speakers. I installed these in the front doors on my 2014 Ram 2500. I chose these over a 6X9 because of the fitment and also they were on sale. Crutchfield as always includes everything you need to install them for free. I'm very happy with my purchase. I'll probably purchase the matching 6X9's for the rear doors now. Just need a drill/bits and a screwdriver. The small "Polk" badges that are inside the speaker package is a nice touch too.

Pros: Easy to install with the supplied adapters. Great sound. Build quality.

Cons: None

I installed back in august of2018 in my 09 harley-davidson electra glide. They fit perfectly in the factory location, with the speaker adaptors. I replaced some hogtunes speaker and the sound great. The bass is a little light but the mids and highs are good. The speakers are paired with JVC KD-X35MBS and a kicker PXA300.4 it is a great sounding system. I just ordered another pair to put in my lower fairings.

Put these in my motorcycle. They are louder than stock. Still experimenting with the stock speaker pod. either porting or removing. Matched with a good amp the highs will peel the skin off your face. Mid Bass is so so.

Pros: Weather proof

Cons: I need these to go to 11

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Installed these in rear doors of my 2018 Honda CR-V EX. Thanks again Crutchfield for making installs so easy. Soooo, like every time I have replaced factory speakers, some bass is lost, but clarity much improved. However, though these speakers are efficient, my factory speakers are MUCH louder. I had purchased two pairs with the intention of also putting another set in the front doors, but am holding off for now as I will lose all bass. I may keep the other set if I get a sub, but I will be returning them if I do not. I do have to say these speakers are being powered only by the factory head unit, and may really open up with an amp, but I still can't see them having anywhere near the bass my factory speakers have/had.

I installed using an inexpensive pioneer head unit and no additional amplifier and these speakers are awesome. Round speakers are always better then any other shape of speaker, for both sound quality and clarity. I installed these in to the stock 6 x 9 opening using the free adapter bracket and they fit perfectly. I'm really impressed with these speakers and the free installation tools and instruction manual they provided and emailed me. I'm ordering a second pair right now.

Use these with an Amp

Bret from Hinesville, GA on 5/9/2019

2018 Ford F-150 XLT

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These speakers are great. I have them installed in a 2018 F150 crew cab. At first I was using them with the factory stereo, and now with a new head unit and amp. I will say I didn't notice a huge difference in sound from the factory speakers with the factory head unit, just slightly better. Where these speakers really shine is with an amplifier. Using a Alpine 50watt x4 amp, these babies really thump! The bass is excellent but I didn't hardly notice it until the amp and new Pioneer head unit was installed that has a 13 band equalizer. Using these speakers without an amplifier does not do these speakers justice. Huge improvement! They even come with a "Polk Audio" badge to put on your speaker grill or door panel. Great stuff.

Pros: These thing sound amazing. Great overal sound, highs, lows, and mids. Not as expensive as other brands with the same quality of sound.

Cons: You really need an Amp to make these babies shine.

Ever since I gave my son my Mazda 3 where I had replaced the factory Bose speakers with Polk speakers and a HD stereo headend in place of factory I have missed the sound. My new Honda has an "OK" stereo but lacked anything special about it. Now that has all changed since the speaker install, just to prove it I replaced the drivers side first and moved balance left to right on a few songs to hear the difference. I promise you hear sound that don't exist in the factory system, the sound is fuller and clearer its like a different song almost... Now I am looking at changing out the speakers in my wife's Buick but I would have to do it when she was away as she likes it just fine the way it is....

Pros: Great full clear sound. There speakers not hard to replace but make a world of difference Cruchfield Master sheets Extras Crutchfield provides, mounting rings pig tail connectors...

Cons: That I didn't do this sooner...

I mounted these in a 2003 Silverado. 5.25" were standard and I kept seeing 6.5" and 6.75" as "fitting." While I waited for them to come in, I opened up the 5.5" hole in each door panel to 6.5." It was quite possibly unnecessary, but now, there is less than zero chance of mechanical interference. Probably would have been better to go 6.75" and if opened, opened only to 6" on the door panel. I pre-drilled 4 holes for the screws provided and didn't use the clips. As a habit, I do use 1/4" body panel tape around the back-rim of the speaker so they were in effect, taped in as well. I like to do that to eliminate any possible rattle. Crutchfield included OEM style pigtails. I cut the stake-ons off and solder and shrink tubed the connection maintaining polarity. Now as to the sound, better low end than the reviews led me to expect. And the highs ample. I didn't find the mids bad either for 2-way. With this old Chevy, it had 4 ohm OEM tweeters. I left them in mechanically but disconnected them. They seemed nothing more than a power suck. That matched 4 ohms to 4 ohms on the new KW-M855BW. And with the frequency range of 40-22,000 Hz, the old tweeters were superfluous anyway. With sensitivity of 92 dB I found a fairly efficient volume at low power and reasonably flat tone at both low and high power. With some speakers as you know, they can sound a bit tinny at low power and a bit gangsta (rap style) near the top. In my opinion, I really didn't get that effect with

Pros: marine rated (oorah), materials, freq. response, sensitivity

Cons: not available in 6-3/4"

Jeep TJ upgrade

I really like these jewels! They screw right into the factory holes of the 5.25" Jeep TJ (2001) sound bar although the factory grills will no longer work over these "larger than stock" speakers. No worries, because Crutchfield / Polk supplies adequate grills with the speakers and they are easy to add over the speakers by using the supplied screws (screw gun or drill helps). The sound difference is MARKEDLY BETTER than the 5.25" factory speakers and louder than the Polk DB522 (side by side comparison during install since I bought both). To be fair, however, I am now powering them with the 45 watt Sony MEX-GS820BT which drives them nicely toward what I perceive to be their potential. If you have a TJ (not a great acoustic host for sure) and want to upgrade the sound, do not hesitate to buy these for your sound bar!

Pros: Really NICE clear and crisp sound that handles power well and is capable of sounding good when either loud or soft.

Cons: You have to drill a few holes to mount the new grills but at least the speakers mount solidly into the factory holes

These speakers are awesome! I have a 2016 Honda Civic coupe with the premium audio system. After three years of jamming the front woofers were starting to sound muddy and creaky so I figured I'd give these speakers a try. Installation was a breeze. The speakers sound great. The clarity is amazing, much better than my stock "premium" system. The bass kicks hard and crisp for the size, it almost sounds like I have two mini subs in my doors. Overall, I'm very happy with these speakers. Only problem is, now I want to replace all my speakers with polks and loose my hearing completely. Enjoy!

Pros: Crystal clear sound quality with solid base

Nice mid and high, very good detail with most music, bass shy and a bit boomy, no deep base (I installed 4 on a Honda CRV) I wonder if the Pioneers had better bass. A subwoofer may cure the problem but the setup would be expensive.

Pros: Good mid and highs, not life like, but has good detail.

Cons: Mostly boomy or little bass, no deep bass for a 40Hz bottom spec.

Selected these by using Crutchfield's amazing Speaker-Compare feature. At least as good as listening to them live, and you can listen to practically anything. And, of course, Crutchfield tells me what speakers will fit my car. They sound terrific - just like when I sampled them - much better than the ones I'd picked out to match the head unit, which in Speaker-Compare, sounded awful! VERY happy with the speakers, and with the Crutchfield experience!

I have used the db series of Polk Audio speakers for several installations and they do not disappoint. They are efficient (92 db), so if you are looking at a head unit with no amplifier this is a very important consideration. At 89 db you would need about twice the power to equal the same volume.... These have decent bass response, no 6.5in in a door will be near a amp/subwoofer combo but you shouldn't expect them to. The soft dome tweeters are smooth and do not fatigue your ears. If you plan on a door installation these are waterproof.

Very durable speakers that upgrades your stock speakers. That being said they don't have very clear highs nor do they push mid bass that well. I love the value but the sound quality is lacking for me. I have 4 of them in my Kia Soul and at higher volume the mid highs can be shrill. So if you're building a good system maybe you should move on. I intend to soon.

Pros: Good price, great build quality, fits most slots in car doors.

Cons: Lacking clarity at high and low end, tweeters can really hurt your ears at higher volume

Installed two sets of these speakers on a 1996 Suburban replacing the factory. Rear door speakers installed quick and easy without issue. The Crutchfield supplies speaker harness fit perfect without having to splice both front and back (connectors are tight when pressing on and may require a support on the back of the speaker connector when pressing to allow a little additional pressure). I had to removed the door panel and use the Crutchfield supplies mount for the front speakers. Just a note, you may want to get some door clips just in case you break one or two when removing the panel. Speakers are a great improvement on what was there. Sound quality is great.

Lacks any bass whatsoever. Cheap Mazda "KD47-66-960" speaker would have been better option. Just installed in my 2016 Mazda CX-5. I had one speaker that was blown, and rather than paying $20 (base Mazda speakers are really cheap) for one replacement, I attempted to "upgrade" with a set of 2 Polk DB652. Speakers are clear but about equal to the Mazda KD47-66-960 in terms of bass and clarity. I realize these are pretty basic speakers, and I can't expect much more for $60. Just really lacking in the mid and low bass. A bit disappointed by Polk here.

Speakers seem good quality and sound good, don't have the proper deck yet so it's hard to evaluate them fully.

Pros: Shallow, plenty of mounting holes

Cons: Connection points flimsy and mounted in a way that is difficult to support while attaching connectors. If I hadn't used a flathead screwdriver as a makeshift backstop for the circuit board it would have broken before the supplied adapter harnesses actually clipped in. Need to either make the connection board better supported or increase the space around it so you can get a finger behind it to support it when plugging or unplugging connectors.

I put these in a 1985 F150 that I'm restoring which was a radio-delete model from the factory, so new wiring had to be run into the doors etc.... Paired with a Sound Ordinance sub these speakers are just ok IMHO. Treble-y and thin is how I would describe them. As soon as mids/lower mids are added, the sound gets cloudy. So, better than nothing? Yes. Better than almost any factory speaker in a new car? No. For the $89 I paid, they weren't worth it, IMHO. For the $59 that they have them on sale for at the time of writing this review, maybe.

17' Subaru WRX. These inexpensive speakers are so much better than the factory speakers, they are very clear and they have good bass.

Pros: Very good sound and 92db/watt gives the factory unit a nice boost.

Cons: Kinda a waste the brackets and grilles just get tossed.

Should not be installed in a Civic (2006-2011)

Crutchfield customer from Reno, NV on 1/20/2019

2008 Honda Civic EX

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These sounded ok in my Civic. Unfortunately, I had to return them because there is a high post where the screws go to secure the speaker to the bracket. Because of the high post, the OEM speaker covers on the rear deck and door panels hit, preventing them from reinstalling without cutting the plastic housing that surrounds the speaker on the inner door panel. Would not recommend for a 2008 Civic install. For a Civic it would be better to pick a speaker with a flatter rim around the outside of the speaker.

Pros: Good construction Marine grade

Cons: Doesn't work in a Civic (2006-2011) without modifying the inner door panel

Speakers are ok but I guess I was expecting better sound. I got these to replace my factory speaker since I was installing a new radio anyway. Quality is good but I was expecting a little more. The hardware that comes with the speakers fit my car perfectly except for the back speakers I had to install the speaker holder first. Reason being is the holding screw is inaccessible once the speaker is attached. Once I figured that out it worked out fine.

Pros: Easy installation High quality built

Cons: Sound quality could be a bit better

Found on WranglerForum that this model (actually the 651 or something close) fits my soundbar (2000 Wrangler TJ). Suffice it to say, it does. Had packed some poly in the soundbar openings but they did very little for the 5.25 I had in there. These are actually putting out a lot more sound and fill out the middle in my Jeep (still have the 4x6 in the front, but have a JL 10" in a custom box). Extremely happy with this 10 minute swap.

Pros: Fits the smaller opening for a 5.25" speaker in Jeep TJ soundbar

Just replaced the factory speakers in my daughters new 2019 RAV4.....Unbelievable difference in sound quality. Factory speakers had a maybe? 2oz. magnet, the Polks are quite a bit more impressive in build, and quality of construction. There is now bass, mids are clear, and the highs are crisp. Amazing what 4 new quality speakers will make. Made her listen to some Led Zeppelin while I toiled away. The reward is amazing!! Highly recommend this simple upgrade. Thanks Dante at Crutchfield!!

Pros: Easy install, great reward!!

Cons: Brand new model, speaker lead adapters not right. Thats what butt connectors are for.

A Quality Item for A Great Price

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Hey all. I don't review much, but I thought this would be an exception. I have a 2013 Subaru Impreza Hatch and the OEM speakers were starting to age (bass was muddled, and the overall sound was deteriorating quite fast); so I decided to start looking for an upgrade but was on a budget. I decided to go with coaxials rather than components due to simplicity of installation and eventually settled on these Polks DB652s. WIth my purchase, Crutchfield sent me the wiring adaptors, which I greatly appreciated, and the speakers that came right on time (ordered on a Friday, delivered next Thursday). Installation was a breeze(~30min) and then I plugged in my aux when I was done. Being new, I wasn't expecting perfect sound and read that there would be a little break-in time. Now I don't have a big audio background, I just love my music and let me tell you this, these are quality speakers and I only wish that I had bought 2 sets instead of 1. I think I sat in my car for about 20 minutes moving to hear the difference between the OEM rear and Polks in the front. I then turned my bass up (we yung ones love our bass), and was pleasantly surprised in how well it actually sounded. The difference was day and night to my ears. In the end, I'm not saying these speakers are top notch and there are obviously much better sounding items out there, but if you are looking to replace a blown or old speaker, have a budget, and want good overall sound in your vehicle, I would recommend these. Cheers!

2015 F-150 installed these in the front and back doors I have the 8 inch sync 3 with 7 speakers. Easy install thanks to Crutchfield. If you Prefer clarity over Bass these are the speakers for you. THESE SPEAKERS HAVE ZERO BASS! So if you like vocals good to go! If you like your songs to hit with the beat find a different speakers. Disappointed In Polk Audio probably needs an amp or something more money

Pros: Very clear vocals

Cons: 0 Bass, like not even a little bit.

Polk Audio DB652 not impressed

Jim from Kenosha, WI on 12/10/2018

1998 Dodge Dakota

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I'm so, so on these. First some background. I have a 1998 Dodge Dakota quad cab with 9,800 original miles. Everything is pretty much factory stock. I bought Polk Audio DB 652 to replace my rear speakers which the paper cones had ripped. The factory speackers were the upgraded Infinity System from the factory which had a original mini amp. Now the original speakers are 6-3/4" subs with a tweater in the speaker grill. A very neat design for factory speakers. With the exception they were paper cones which is probably why they ripped 17 years ago and I'm now replacing. They gave great base for a 6-3/4" speaker and a great mid and highs. Reason I'm so, so on these. They are quieter than the factory speakers and have little base. I realize if I had a more powerful head unit or better amp the speakers will probably be outstanding. However I bought them with the sole purpose of replacing and trying to keep stock my sound system. Keep in mind I always hear anything after market is better than factory. In this case I don't see that being true.

Pros: Clean sound

Cons: Quiet, little if any base

I used these to replace all four speakers in my old Honda. Not only can I now hear the rear speakers, I actually want to. The only issue is that the wire termination board on the speaker is cantilevered and feels a bit weak. I had to temporarily back the ends of the boards with a bit of heavy plastic when installing the connectors so as to not break the board; it could have been tight connectors but the boards just flexed too much for my comfort. The board is also very close to the metal cutout both in the doors and deck so I was sure to give each a wrap with electrical tape to ensure they stay isolated but that's probably due to the magnet being larger than the original and I'd give them a wrap with tape anyway.

Pros: Good sound for a good price and and a good fit with no modifications needed.

Cons: I didn't do it sooner. Weak wire termination board.

This was a perfect choice for a 2018 Dodge Challenger RT rear deck speaker upgrade from stock. The speakers are vibrant with excellent mids and highs. Bass is acceptable for a 6 1/2 speaker powered by a stock head unit. The installation was easy with the provided speaker adapter and wiring harness to connect to your factory plugs so you don't have to butcher the OEM wiring. (Both were included free!) Overall I am 100 % pleased with my choice. If you need some extra bass, just add a Sound Ordnance B-12 sub with a Kicker 43CXA300.1 amp for just over $225. Lastly, the service at Crutchfield is second to none. Their fast shipping, competitive pricing and super generous return policy makes them the perfect choice.

Installation instructions for the Jeep were spot on for this speaker, although it did take me a bit to figure out how I needed to configure the adapter plate to fit as I did not like the recommended way. I did end up drilling an extra hole in the sound bar to make things work. The Crutchfield consultant steered me towards these and they are definitely an improvement in both sound quality and power over the stock, and they were lower price than the ones I leaned towards before talking with the consultant. I expect these will sound even better when I upgrade the amp.

Pros: Good Value, Good Sound Quality

Adequate but tinny high range

Henry from Indianapolis, IN on 10/29/2018

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Installed 4 of these in a 2009 Suzuki SX4 hatchback. Improvement over factory speakers but the door compartments very shallow so not nearly as much bass as Polk install in my pickup truck where I had 2 of the 4 were 6x9's. SX4 adequate but definitely more high range with factory radio (technology option incl cd & gps) and tinny/sharp notes. Lacking in low range and some mid. 4 door speaker holes all round, so would have been difficult maybe impossible for 6x9's. Did NOT have to drill new holes, reused existing post extension gap mounts and screws for Crutchfield-supplied mount plates and then used included longer screws for speakers to the mount. Very careful and tight alignment to re-use existing posts/holes but possible with a few slightly angled screws. 4/5 stars.

Pros: Better than factory, reused existing speaker mount posts/screws with supplied speaker faceplate

Cons: speakers ear screechingly tinny but not distorted/scratchy. Low on the 'punchy' reverberating deep bass probably due to shallow door compartments and factory radion/cd player. Doubt could install larger speakers in this small auto.

These speakers sound pretty good (because my stock speakers didn't have tweeters, these sounded a little tinny off the bat). While the hardware that came with the speakers (adapter plate and screws) may have worked well for some installations, on mine (replacing the factory speakers on a 2005 Dodge Dakota)I had to do a little creative MacGuyver work to get these speakers to fit. The Crutchfield tech guy on the phone gave some good advice in the process (thanks, Scot!).

I bought these to replace the terrible OEM rear door speakers in a 2015 Forester and installed them before replacing the OEM head unit and adding an amplifier. The improvement far exceeded my expectations. There is more bass than I ever would have expected for speakers this size. When I added a Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX head unit and a JL 50 watt/4 channel amp with a Rockford Fosgate P300-12 Sub, the sound is amazing, super clean and crystal clear. The wiring kit was perfect, and the mounting bracket worked well.

Pros: Easy fit, great sound.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Can't Go Wrong With Polk Audio

2005 Scion tC

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Fits perfectly in a 1st Gen Scion tC front door, using a gutted out factory speaker frame and using 3M Automotive Windo-Weld 08609 to glue the Polk speaker into the hollowed out OEM frame. Could be accomplished while on the door (with added difficulty), but suggest drilling the 3 rivets and doing this on the bench. I did not purchase my first set from Crutchfield, so I just soldered the factory plug on the OEM speaker frame to the Polk directly. Complete OEM fit and finish. The Polks sound great on 100 watts RMS, which is why I am purchasing a second set for my other tC. Not enough mid-bass for my discerning tastes, but what can you expect from an OEM door location in a sub-$17K car? The rear OEM locations have plenty of empty space to build a nice enclosure for real 6.5" or even 8" mid-bass drivers. My wife's Camry needs the JBL speakers replaced, so I will be looking to Polk for compatible sets.

Pros: Operates as expected for the design style.

Cons: Nothing for this design.

SIMPLER DB 6502 OPTION

Jim from Liberty Hill, TX on 8/7/2018

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

As stated before in my other reviews on DB polks, they need to be pushed with watts. Minimum 50 watts RMS for any real volume and quality capability. 100 watts is perfect. (pioneer GMD-8604) This is essentially the DB 6502 in a coax speaker with slightly less frequency response and no ability to better image the tweeter. I got these on sale, could not pass it up. Installed in stock rear door location in 96 Chevy 4 dr Tahoe. I could see having 6-8 of these in a 23' wakeboard boat at 100 watts RMS on the lake. I consider these well balanced, and if anything, more bass heavy on the balance, if hard pressed. PLUG AND PLAY, simple install.

Pros: Easier install than components.

Cons: HAVE TO PUSH POWER INTO THESE Is that a drawback?

Not bad at all

I bought these for the front and rear of my 04 Ram. I have a 10" subwoofer for bass, so I wasn't looking for bass from these speakers. For the money they sound good. Some music sounds absolutely great on them other music you get some slightly harsh highs and a little muddy sound. But with the eq from my deck it cleans it up pretty well. I run these with an old Exile 600.4 amp and these speakers get plenty loud. All in all not bad for 90 dollar speakers. Don't expect excellent performance from speakers at this price point. However they do sound good with my subwoofer and my system set up for the best overall sound I can get.

Pros: Good sound Cheap price

Cons: Slightly harsh highs and a little muddy at times

These are a good upgrade over the stock 2008 GMC Bose speakers (which all 4 had cracked). Sound quality is very good for my stock system - in an everyday use pickup. Crutchfield's install instructions and speaker plug adapters make most installs plug-n-play, as mine was. I'd buy them again

Installed on 1998 Honda Accord Sedan EX rear deck speakers. They sound different than factory speakers as my factory speakers is a 6 speaker configuration in the Honda. Not sure I can compare the sound. Installation required some modifications to the mounting bracket. Even though these speakers were thin, I made some modifications. I did not cut the back of the plastic mounting bracket, but instead broke off a piece of plastic in the way with pliers and then filed a groove into the plastic to get it to fit. It was not hard and only took about 5 mins to do.
