Product Research

Features

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Marine Certification: Polk speakers are marine certified, making them a good choice for boats in fresh water, convertibles, motorcycles, ATVs, and other applications where the speaker might get wet. Because they have coated steel baskets and the terminals and crossover components are not covered, we do not recommend using them in salt water environments.

Q
are these speakers bluetooth compatable.........are there any on market that are......i simply want to bluetooth my phone to them for music in a classic auto......without putting in a stereo or head unit ????

A
Greetings Mike, and thank you for your question. The Polk Audio DB 692 speakers do not have Bluetooth. Bluetooth speakers will have an amplifier built in, and either powered by a built in rechargeable battery, or a direct plug into household current. What a lot of classic car owners are using is an amplifier with Bluetooth built in, then running it to which ever speakers they choose. We have a filter on our car amplifier page off to the left to select Bluetooth. All those would then power speakers like the Polk Audio.

Q
Will these fit in the front & back doors of a 2007 ford sport trac?
jeff  Nov 23, 2022

A
We believe you are referring to a 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. These speakers are bigger than the factory installed speakers in that SUV. The stock size is a 6x8. The Polk Audio DB572 speakers can mount as 6x8 speakers and can fit the front and rear doors in this SUV. The DB572 speakers can be found here: www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB572/item.html

Q
Hi, I have a bit of an odd question that I am hoping someone can answer.. I have a 2018 F-150 super crew with the factory B&O system c/w factory 6x9 components in the front doors, 6.5 coaxials in the rear doors, as well as the small B&O 8in sub and 3.5 in center on the dash. The system is better than previous F-150 factory gear, but for me it is still lacking overall. In a perfect world I'd like to do a simple speaker only upgrade that gets the system up to an acceptable level. I have always preferred 6x9's over 6.5's, and have always enjoyed Polk speakers. However, Polk doesn't make a 6x9 component (at least not that I'm aware of). So my question is, does anyone see an issue with me removing the tweeters from the db692's and then installing just the db692 woofer in the door and then replacing the factory A pillar tweeters with the now separated Polk tweeters? I know the system has enough power to drive the Polks at a reasonable level and the db692's are quite efficient. Thoughts? Thank you!

Other than voiding the warranty, it can be done, and works great, but it's a bit of work. First, temporarily, but securely mount the speaker to the vehicle. Then carefully but firmly grab the entire tweeter / super teeter assembly with one hand, being careful not to crush the assembly or damage the woofer slowly and firmly try to turn the entire tweeter assembly clockwise or counter clockwise 1/4 turn. With moderate even turning pressure, the glue holding the metal shaft of the tweeter assembly located inside the hole in the Center of the main woofer magnet will release and the tweeter can be wiggled left and right and pulled slowly out. Snip tweeter wires as required and very gently cut the thin rubber material in the very Center of the woofer cone that is attached to the tweeter shaft - try to cut it where it attaches to the tweeter shaft. Once the tweeter assembly and all of its associated parts are removed from the main speaker, reassemble them and install as component tweeters. Finally, install a 1 1/8" speaker dust cone, CONE SIDE DOWN, using speaker adhesive on the back edges of the cone, or use RTV black. The idea is to adhere the cone to the remenants of the rubber seal attached to the tweeter base.

Q
Are the tweeters flush with the top of the speaker? I will install without the grilles under the under the rear deck, must be flush or below flush. Please reply
chris  Mar 30, 2021

A
The tweeters do protrude past the rest of the speaker (not counting the Polk grilles). Depending on the vehicle, this may not prevent the install. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check your vehicle

Q
What amplifier would I need to match the rms of these speakers as well as front speakers with 100rms?
chris  May 11, 2020
1 answer
A
Well it all depends on the ohms of your front speakers..if your front speakers is 4ohms like your rear speakers than i would go with the pioneer GM-DX874....its 100watts RMS×4 at 4ohms...if you dont like pioneer than you can go with the Ifinity Kappa Four, its 100watts rms×4 at 4 Ohms..the pioneer is the cheapest choice..If you not worried about pricing than Infinity kappa four would be a good choice to..your speakers will last a long time with these amps because they dont over power your speakers causing them to blow out..happy shopping

Q
What 5-channel amplifier would work best for these speakers as well as two front door speakers? And at what RMS?

Crhis, I have to refer you to the excellent staff at Crutchfield. I do not use and external amplifier. I find the internal Mosfet amp with the Kenwood Exceleron KDC-X501 receiver adequate for my listening needs. Good Luck.

For those who have this or have had this , what's the bass like?

I am not that technical. But I like the speakers in Corolla and feel way better than speakers that came with.

Not a deep bass, but for classic rock they sound good.

Installed these Polk DB692 in my Camry in late 2017, paired with the DB652 in the front. At first with the bass set at mid-point, I was a bit concerned they wouldn't provide enough bass. But, just raising the bass control to about two-thirds solved my concern. Can hear and "feel" enough bass to satisfy without cranking it all the way up. If you want your windows and doors to shake and rattle, these won't do it. ;-) But who in the world would want to do that??? Clarity is very good. Still loving these speakers.

Polk db692 has a full beautiful sound at all volumes. It's not a subwoofer.

I put them in the front fairing of s bike along with a small amp. Not a hard hitter, but not what I was looking for on use

I put these in a 2014 crew cab and they fit great. I'm not sure how close the design is, but I would think that they should.

They weigh as much as a standard speaker. I would not call them "light weight".

I am looking to install these on my Harley for the top of the saddle bags. I need to know if these are sealed for water so as long as I seal the speaker properly to the saddle bag, it shouldn't let any water throuhg? By the pics it looks as though the woofer is sealed to the tweeter but i need to be sure. looking at the marine grade Polk DB 692

I have these on my Victory XC bag lids. Been caught in the rain a couple times, as well as a serious washing with the hose. I get some water inside, just a trickle or so, but enough to get my spare rags wet, and ruined any papers in the bag. Not sure if it's the speaker itself, or the hole for the speaker (in the bag lid), going to be putting some RTV on the flange/frame of the speaker to seal the edges onto the bag lid for next year. I would highly recommend these speakers though, have them pushed by an Alpine hd149bt thru a JL Audio hx280/4. Also 2 Polk 5.25s in fairing (forget the model # exactly). You can hear everything clear as can be (after tuning everything) and you can hear me from about 2 blocks away if I want!

Q
can I run these speakers on a 2 ohm load to get more out of my Sound Ordnance M-4050 amp?
scooby snacks  Jul 25, 2017
1 answer
A
I think it's more a function of whether the amp can operate properly with a 2 ohm load. That's a difficult task for many amplifiers, especially inexpensive ones.

Q
I'm installing these in my boat. Will a 400 watt 2 channel Pyle amp be enough to push them?

A
Yes, easily.
david  Jul 28, 2017
A
They should sound amazing with that amp
umberto  Apr 21, 2017
A
Should be plenty, and will likely allow you to keep the gain on the amp low enough to totally avoid clipping. FULL volume could be too much, be careful. FWIW, don't expect outrageous bass from 6x9s (any of them). These are good, but a sub is a sub. I had an Infinity BassLink a while back and think it would be a good match. Not "thumpy", but solid and rich.
