Lasts just past warranty!
Rob from Sidney, MT on 1/28/2019
This product worked and sounded great for 3.5 years, the warranty on the amp is three years. So I am left with an expensive black box. If this is how long polk home subwoofers last, I believe you should trust another brand.
Pros: Sounds great, decent looking
Cons: It stopped working 6 months past the warranty

This sub is awesome!!! I watch a couple movie's , Finding NEMO was a hole new experience. Lol I'm very happy and I bet my neighbors are pist so that's just a bonus. I've had a Yamaha 10" I'd say this Polk is better. I really like how you get even bass with the down firing sub and port!!

Good sub - puts the B in bass.
Michael from Chapel Hill, NC on 2/13/2018
Replaced my Polk DSW Pro 500 after it gave up the ghost - 9 years of service. The Pro 550 is an admirable replacement. I have my floor shaking (when necessary) sound back! Highly recommend.
Pros: Great sound and nice remote.
Cons: I wish my 500 didn't die - and cost almost as much to repair as a new 550!

I like Polk audio speakers. I'm running a 7.2.2 system and it's all Polk. I like it when I had one, but after adding a second one I'm really pleased. Good product for the money.
Pros: Great Home Theater sub. Accurate, has a pretty nice punch. looks nice and fits well into my home theater.
Cons: None that I can think of. Crutchfield is a little slow giving you your points after a purchase.

Good sub for the price
Kevin from Chandler, AZ on 7/13/2016
Pretty good sounding sub. Adds a good deal of tight, accurate base to a small to medium sized room. My family room is large, so I actually have 2 subs to get enough base. This sub alone is not loud enough for the size room I have it in. There have been some reliability issues - the first one I received was very quiet and I had to return it for a replacement. The 2nd one worked well for 3-1/2 years but then would not power on. Customer service was good and I am returning the amp for service/replacement. My 2nd sub is a cheaper, older (15 years old) Polk powered subwoofer and it just keeps going!
Pros: - solid build, looks nice, clean accurate bass for small-medium sized room, remote control
Cons: - must pay extra for wireless adapter - some reliability issues

Adding base to by bass!
Kevin A from Bayside, NY on 7/7/2016
I have a pair of Infinity P-363 speakers fed by a Yamaha R-S700 amp. These speakers sound great with good bass but I found myself most satisfied setting the amp's bass dial to the 3 o'clock position. So, I thought, why not try a powered subwoofer. I'm not a kid and like listening to mellower stuff like bluegrass and traditional Celtic, but also the '60s and '70s rock I grew up with. I was definitely not seeking the thump-thump stuff I hear from some cars. But what the Polk DSW Pro550wi does, set at a relatively low setting, is nicely compliment the Infinity's bass. It adds a foundation of notes so low that you almost feel as well as hear. If you want that thump-thump, it can definitely accommodate you. As a bonus, because of the way powered subwoofer notes seem to radiate everywhere, the small bookshelf speakers in my kitchen also benefit from the Polk, which is in my living room.
Pros: Crutchfield's expert sale staff, free shipping and low return fee, removes the risk of buying online. I returned a big heavy item, so have tested that policy.
Cons: If you put this Polk powered subwoofer in an apartment, your neighbors will hear it as well as you. It's unbelievable how those bass notes travel.

Polk DSW Pro 550
Brandon K from washington court house, OH on 3/28/2016
I bought this subwoofer to replace an older Paradigm 12" subwoofer from 1999. The Polk is a nice speaker but is definitely not on the same level as the Paradigm. The Polk plays accurately and decent volume but I have to turn up the volume on the subwoofer to get close to the level of my old subwoofer. This subwoofer works well in a small room, but needs more volume in a larger room. Overall it is a nice subwoofer and plays nicely, but I should have spent more money for my needs and purchased a more powerful subwoofer.
Pros: The subwoofer looks very nice, it is built well and I like the addition of a remote control. The music reproduction is very accurate and it gives depth to the movie soundtrack.
Cons: Needs more power, not great in a larger room, works well in a smaller room

Inconsistent Reliability
Chris from Michigan on 1/15/2016
Paired this Polk Audio DSW PRO 550wi subwoofer with the Polk Audio Blackstone TL350 home theater speaker system, and a Pioneer VSX-1021-K receiver using the LFE interface. This system serves daily as my living room home theater. Unfortunately, this subwoofer failed in less than 4.5 years of service.
Pros: The subwoofer is capable of delivering plenty of volume, which is adjustable using either the remote or buttons on the back panel. Physically, it's build quality is very solid. The black finish is a rubbery / plastic coating that's easy to clean. The down-firing design also provides protection to the speaker, which is nice if it's located in a room with plenty of walking traffic.
Cons: The subwoofer failed in less than 4.5 years of service. One day it failed to power on, only to discover a blown fuse. I've replaced the fuse 3 times, but they immediately blow as soon as I power on the sub using the I/O power switch on the rear panel. Additionally, the 'Auto' power setting is unreliable. The subwoofer has always experienced problems randomly powering off while in use, and would require the volume to be turned up very loud to power on.

This Sub is bad.. definitely hits harder then I had expected for just having a 200w amp. I wasn't to impressed at first until I call Crutchfield Customer service. These guys are awesome and fast. In less then 2 min they had me in the settings getting all my speakers n sub tuned in just right. Turned the sub up on the receiver, now it's got the floor shaking without the distortion sound. Sounds good with action movies and music. Has that hard hitting bass. Can't say enough good things about Crutchfield will definitely recommend to everyone
Pros: Hits hard and never gets tired. Great sound and no distortion
Cons: Don't know if i wouldve paid full price for it.. lot of money for me but it definitely is worth every penny

A versatile sub, which along with an array of Polk RTi A1's and matching center channel, provides cinematic magic in a 5.1 or 7.1 surround system. Recommended.
Pros: Easy setup. Options that allow fine tuning. Sufficient power for most home installations.
Cons: Should you wish to employ the sub in its forward-facing position, a right-angled 15-amp power cord and a right-angled RCA adapter are a must, IMO.

I was going to buy only one of these but Crutchfield had a special so I bought two. Thank you Crutchfield! I wired these bad boys in stereo using the speaker level inputs to the speaker B terminals on my reviever. Works like a charm. No problems with the remote like the other reviews mention, and one remote works for both subs so if I do ever have a problem I got back up. They sound fantastic. I sware, they always give you the correct bass for whatever you may be listening too. 100% satisfied.
Pros: Sounds fantastic and looks great compared to others. Remote included.

Chris B from Burbank, CA on 1/16/2013
This sub has some really good bass to help immerse you in the video. I have to admit I turn mine up to around 75% and turn up the sub level on the receiver to +5db, whereas YPAO set it to +1 db with the sub volume on 50%. The auto turn on seems to be hit or miss so I just turn it on and off as I need it. The remote included works fine for me, but I have programmed my Harmony remote so I don't use the included remote. Overall it's a very nice unit, it looks as sleek as the rest of my Polk gear, and it performs well.

550 review
el g from PA on 10/3/2012
Clean, solid, and room filling. For me this was a GREAT buy. I went with the wireless kit because I would have needed over 50 ft of cable plus the room it's being used in gets rearranged for Christmas so I liked the flexibility of being able to move it wherever I want with with no real inconvenience. There are 2 problems with going wireless one is the signal so you might have to play around with placement. The other problem is if you go wireless you will have to manually turn the sub on/off everything you use it as opposed to a wired connection which has a standby mode and will turn on/off manually. Besides these 2 minor things I love this sub it shakes the house!
Pros: Everything
Cons: Wireless can be problematic Wireless requires manuallying turn sub on/off

Awesome Bass, Polk Quality
Ron D. from Union, NJ on 9/15/2012
The Class D amp on this beautiful sub provides clean, earth shaking bass. The adjustments for location, phasing and volume will allow even the most critical audiophile to get it "just right". My unit is hard-wired to the LFE input, so I have no issues with wireless interference. The finish is superb, as should be expected with any product from Polk Audio. The remote control dose require line-of sight , which may be a problem for someone who has the unit stashed away behind furniture, but that shouldn't be a problem unless you want to continually tweak the settings. Overall, a highly recommended sub that will put a smile on your face. I should also add that this unit went on sale a few days after I purchased it, and Crutchfield automatically gave me a credit for the price difference on any future purchase. Another reason to go to Crutchfield first when looking for electronics.
Pros: Beautiful finish, awesome performance.
Cons: Remote requires line-of-sight (should not be a big deal for most people).

Big Block Engine Performance!
DS from Henderson, NV on 1/26/2012
I wanted the 12" DSW PRO 660 because I was replacing a 12" sub boasting 250 W RMS / 550 W Max and I didnt want a lesser experience. The 660wi is only $100 more than the 550wi but you have to set your budget somewhere so I went with the DSWPRO 550wi. Surprise Surprise this 550wi out performs the 12" Northridge E250 and I mean its not even a close contest. the 550wi has a class D amp. Theoretical power efficiency of class D amplifiers is 100%. An ideal class A B amplifier has a theoretical maximum efficiency of 78% and the Northridge E series probably would not have "ideal efficiency" so believe me when I say this 550wi has big block engine performance and these 200 Watts easily outperform the 250 watts of the 12" and I have never turned the 550wi up past 75% I'm pretty sure pictures will fall and nails will loosen from wall studs
Pros: Clean Powerfull Bass, Modular for down or front firing, Wireless Capable, Remote is usefull.
Cons: Accessories are expensive - $50 grill cover $100 wireless adaptor

Subwoofer Awesome...Wireless could be better
u da man from York SC on 6/30/2011
This subwoofer sounds incredible. My 4-year old girl told me that she could feel the music with her entire body. Watching movies with the subwoofer is the only way to watch movies. I subtracted one star from rating because of the interference on my subwoofer via the wireless connection when my receiver and other electronics are turned off. However, the wireless connection is the only setup for my subwoofer that my wife would tolerate. She did not want to see wires or the subwoofer in our room. I have the subwoofer tucked away where you can not see but you can most definitely feel. So far, I am very pleased with my purchase. I would buy it again. I hope this review helps.
