They use advanced engineering and optimized components to reproduce your sound with uncompromising accuracy, and Polk built these marine-certified subs to take some serious abuse.

Efficient power handling

The MM 1242 DVC 12" 4-ohm subwoofer handles up to 420 watts RMS, with a titanium-coated polymer cone that'll stand the test of time. This sub's dual 4-ohm voice coils allow you to wire your system to draw max power from your mono amp or to safely hook up multiple subs. The fiberglass-reinforced ABS basket resists flexing during heavy excursion, so your sub hits hard without distorting. The sub's inner workings are designed to handle the stress of heavy bass, so go ahead and turn it up.

Marine-certified

This sub has earned Advanced Ultra-Marine certification and an IP56 rating, which means it'll deliver powerful bass in some challenging conditions. The composite cone, waterproof surrounds, stainless steel mounting hardware, and ABS basket all resist corrosion, and the sub even features weep holes for proper drainage.

Features

Dual 4Ω Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4Ω voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load. When wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Terminals: The woofer has heavy duty spring terminals that will accept single banana plugs, pin connectors, and bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Ultra-Marine Certified: Polk MM Series speakers are built to withstand exposure to moisture and UV rays, so they work well in boats and cars (IP56 rated).

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Sealed Box Volume: Polk recommends a sealed enclosure between 1.25 ft³ and 3.5 ft³.

Ported Box Volume: Polk recommends a ported enclosure between 1.75 ft³ and 2.25 ft³.

Customer Q&A

5 questions already asked

Q
Troubleshoot ! The woofer is wired to present 2 Ohm. Unfortunately, the 5 Amp fuse can not support the power from the amp. The sub is driven by a Helix HXA 1000 Qx ( RMS 600 W ) . Question, is the load from the amp too high? Thanks.

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
is the rms rating on this sub measured at 4 oms?
randall  Feb 02, 2019
1 answer
A
Well it is a dual voice coil version of the sub so each voice coil is rated at 4 ohms. If only using a single sub you can only wire this sub to 2 and 8 ohms. If you want 4 ohms as the final impedance get the single voice coil version.
