Just installed 4 of these for Atmos Height speakers for my new theater setup. Do to space and depth limitations, these fit the bill very well. They sound great for my use. We have various Polk RC series in-ceilings throughout our house for use in our whole home audio setup. They are great performers. Always have subs running with them, so not worried about low-end. Will buy more as we continue to expand our setups.

Initial Review on quality and shipping
Crutchfield customer from Mount Joy , PA on 10/3/2020
I received these speakers, along with 6 others from Crutchfield in 2 days time. Very fast, in my opinion, but in today's world of online shopping, pretty normal. Packaging was good, no issues or damage. These speakers look nice, even though they are the lower line from Polk. They should be good for a zone 2 application in the dining room. I'll give a performance review after I finish the audio install.

Polk Audio RC60i - Left wanting more
Craig from California on 6/7/2016
I originally purchased two pairs of the RC60i to complete my 7.1 theater system but both pairs ended up being mounted in my covered patio; this was based on pre-cut holes on patio sized for 6 inch rounds. Generally I thought they would be too small for the application and the 6" cone may not move enough air mass. To my surprise they actually produce decent bass, but the tweeter seems to really struggle for any type of fidelity. Basically I have a old 2 channel Rotel amp driving my second zone with 60-80 Watts per speaker. I have adjusted the tone/treble higher and this has made some improvement in the highs but in the end the highs still seem to struggle between vocals and instruments (cymbals etc.). Overall they are fair, do I think the 8" version would be better? Well maybe but if you are expecting more than a wall of mono like sound the next grade up in the Polk line might be the answer or another product. I also run these a little stronger than background levels, but Polk kind of missed the mark here.
Pros: Very affordable and even better when on close out or scratch and dent. Aesthetically pleasing, ease of install
Cons: Sound is generally vague and or flat, surprisingly the tweeter is what cant cut the mustard!

Jim from Sioux Falls, SD on 2/6/2016
Sounds great, good value. Install is easy (after you get wires to your speakers of course). Just trace the template and cut the hole out with a keyhole saw. Creates a fair amount of sheet rock dust, but that's the small price you pay for installing ceiling speakers.

Cons: I enjoyed my first pair so much I ended up adding a second pair to add a second room to my system.

I initially purchased 4 pairs of the Polk Audio RC60i in ceiling speakers as part of my wireless zoned audio speaker system. The sound was crisp, clear and clean. I was amazed at the quality of speaker for the price. They are very easy to install and not an eye sore to look at. I subsequently purchased 2 additional pairs to add to several other rooms in my house and I have been very happy with the quality audio these speakers produce. Most importantly is you are getting great speakers and not breaking the bank.

Great speakers
SusanWM from Charleston, WV on 10/13/2014
I bought these speakers to go into my office ceiling tiles to play music in hopes it would mask sound coming from private offices. I understood that music coming from overhead was supposed to create an umbrella of sound that would block other noise better than my tabletop speakers. I was a bit intimidated about cutting a whole in the ceiling tiles but my husband and I got them fully installed in a couple of hours which included time to weave speaker wire in the ceiling between rooms. When we were done, it looked like these speakers were always there. They blended perfectly and the sound is much better then I expected from such a small, light speaker. It is rich and clear. I am really happy with them. My whole office has a much better atmosphere. Wish I had taken this step sooner.

Great Speaker
CoryS from Nashville, TN on 3/8/2014
These Polk Audio's are the best speaker you are going to find in this price range. Mine had a little bit of a break in period but came to life pretty quickly. 4 stars because I know you can get speakers that do sound better but if you are an average user these will more than exceed your expectations.
Pros: Price & Sounds
Cons: Install. I've installed a few different types of in-ceiling speakers and the brackets that hold them up in the ceiling were a little difficult to work with. Not so much so that I wouldn't buy them again, however.

Easy installation, clean sound
ChucktownSC from Charleston, SC on 2/2/2014
I upgraded my rear surrounds and decided to go with ceiling mounted speakers and these do not disappoint. The most difficult part of installation was crawling in the attic and running the wires, but that was expected. If you decide to go this route, plan for a cool time of year. Once installed, these speakers filled the rear of my living room with solid, clear sound. My living room is rather small (12 x 14), which made these Polks ideal for supplying ample sound without breaking the bank. I now have both front and rear outfitted with Polk audio and couldn't be happier.
Pros: Price, sound, quality and easy installation.
Cons: None that I can think of.

The template included worked great and the speakers installed without so much as a slipped screw driver. Once I plugged them in and aimed the tweeters the 5.1 was complete. They sound great.
Pros: Ease of installation, great sound.

The Polk RC60i speakers sound great. In fact I am thinking about replacing the rest of the speakers for my suround system with the in-wall Polk speakers.
Pros: Easy to install.

Surpassed Expectations
Ryan from Warwick, RI on 9/29/2012
These speakers installed in the ceiling in approximately 20-minutes since I had pre-run the audio wires during construction/renovation. Installation was extremely easy as long as you took good notes on the wire locations (pictures help). The speakers have been installed for about 3 months now and as I sit in my greatroom (9ft ceilings) having coffee telling my wife how happy I am with my purchase I thought I should go on Crutchfield and let other consumers know. These speakers surpass my expectations. They have plenty of volume if you want to crank them and the clarity is spectacular, even at high volume. The bass only gets better with higher volume, which I guess would be the only "complaint?". I had room for the RC80i speakers and only wish I had gone with those...but that being said I am very pleased with my purchase.
Pros: Easy installation, Great Clarity, Great volume, Great value
Cons: Stronger bass at low volumes would make these speakers perfect...however the bass is still good at lower volumes.

Sound great
Dave from Upstate, NY on 3/19/2012
At first after I had installed them I wasn't getting a whole lot of sound from them but after setting up my receiver and then changing them from a surround to a "B" set of speakers and not having them as surrounds holy cow! These sound great as a surround! I tested them using the first part from the newest terminator movie....awesome! I have a 20' X 30' great room (tv & couches in 1/2 the room) with bose in the front and these speakers set about 1' wider than the fronts and 2' behind the couch. I was going to go with Bose again but after the gret reviews and the low price I tried these first and glad I did.

Installed in the soffit above my outdoor deck, really a nice looking intallation. They have a real nice mid-range sound, but have a little trouble getting to the low range. Most outdoor speakers do. For an economy priced 6" speaker, I wasn't expecting too much. These would make an excellent rear surround speaker in a home theater system (most likely what they were designed for).

Very Good Ceiling speakers
Frank C. from Columbia, SC on 12/30/2010
I recently built my house so I had the luxury of doing all the theater wiring before the sheetrock was installed. Take lots of digital pictures. There is no need to purchase the new construction bracket for the speakers, one more thing the sheetrock guys can mess up. I have a very open living area floor plan and 9 foot ceilings. After doing quite a bit of research and having purchased Polk audio products in the past, I decided to go with RC60i ceiling speakers for the front and rear left and right. I thought that maybe I should have gone up to the larger speakers but I didn't want to clutter up the ceiling. The measurements matched with the recessed lighting. After the install, I was more than pleased with the sound. I am not one of those people who can hear the difference between the smallest details in noise levels. I was able to tweak the sound for each speaker on the receiver and it sounds great! I installed the 5.1 sound system for the family to enjoy watching movies. The kids and I love it; the speakers are out the way and blend in well with the wall and the ceilings. I purchased the speakers on line and the delivery was quick. Easy to install. I would recommend using a rotary tool such a Dremel trio to cut the holes in the ceiling. Be careful because it can create marks in the ceiling that you may see even after the speaker is installed. The prices were the lowest I could find. Check out my other review for the RC55.

Nice speakers for the price
DustinB from Milwaukee, WI on 12/15/2010
I purchased these speakers to power from a second zone setup on my Onkyo tx-sr608 reciever. I paired it up with a PSW111 in my formal living room. It is purely just for background music when I have company over. The speakers sound really good as long as you are under the "sweet spot" below them. They are in about a 25'x18' room, and if you are along the sides of the room you lose some of the highend and detail of the music. I am sending the signal from the reciever through the speaker level inputs of the sub and using its built-in crossover. Over all they blend very well together and when you want to crank the volume up they can handle it. Also since the sub is small and relatively discreate and the speakers mount in- cieling they earned the approval of my wife, which was very important. Thank you Cruthcfield for the great products and Great pricing.

Good Sound, Easy To Install
Aaron from Tampa, FL on 7/8/2009
These in-ceiling speakers are a great deal -- you get Polk-quality sound for around the same price that some stores with big yellow tags charge for their house brand. Installation was a pain for me, but that was due to my attic and insulation issues -- no fault on Polk's behalf. Once I had everything ready to hook up, these speakers fit right into the holes I made using the included template, they fit snugly, and basic drywall can support the weight of these without issue. Their sound is pretty impressive (nothing that will knock your socks off, but comparable to bookshelf speakers priced in the same range), and work wonderfully as surround or surround back speakers in a full home theater set-up. Acheiving quality sound while taking up zero space in a room is worth the effort of the installation. Finally, the Crutchfield team answered all of my installation questions promptly, which was important to me given this was my first pair of in-ceiling speakers. Can't say enough about the amazing customer service you get here. Pool that with an excellent price on good speakers, and the value is unmatched.

Purchased Polk RC60i in ceiling speakers to use as my rear, surround speakers for a SONY DAV-HDx275 surround system. The installation of the speakers utilizing the templates and the built-in locking system was the simplest system I have ever installed. Also, with the adjustable tweeters, I was able to postion them towards my listening area. The sound from these speakers are great.

Great Value, Great Sound
Todd from Linwood, MN on 2/20/2009
I recently purchased a new Samsung 50" plasma tv as an upgrade from our old 52" projection screen unit. I soon realized to get the whole HD experience, I would need a blu-ray player and a new HD receiver. I ended up buying new HT speakers as well. The new setup consists of Polk RC60i's for the rear surround, Polk Monitor 40's for the front and a Polk CSII for the center. I re-used our existing Polk 100 watt PSW 350 sub. This all runs through a Denon AVR 1909 receiver with 90 watts per channel. Our family room is 24x22 with 8' ceilings. The RC60i's as a surround speaker sound awesome. Going from satellite surrounds to in-celing surrounds was night and day. I had already fished the wires (the hard part) so the rest of the install was super easy. They have good, tight bass response and the swivel tweeter lets you aim the highs to really tweak the imaging. The 6.5" size also blends well with our recessed light fixtures. I think they are a steal at this price per pair. This all replaced a 5 year old Polk RM6600/PSW350 satellite system with a Kenwood 100 watt per channel (read over-rated) receiver. The difference in sound is incredible! The satellites were ok, but had trouble producing "full" sound. The larger drivers in the new speakers really deliver. Easily fills the room with a powerful sound. This is probably considered a budget HT system by most, but I am VERY pleased. Thank you Polk, Denon and Crutchfield.

Great for home theater or plain old music
shapnup from Danville, ca on 2/20/2008
I bought 3 pairs of these for three different rooms. In the family room I used them for the rear channel surround, and they are just perfect as they work with our incorporated powered subwoofer. In our adjacent dining room and living room, they do the job. They lack the bass many other reviewers mention, but if all you want is good clean reliable sound, you can certainly do without that bass. Pairing them up with a general subwoofer would help them in these locations. OR I recommend upgrading to the 8" speakers which we have in our bedroom. Those too are excellent Overall, installation was a cinch, quality excellent and sound excellent.

Shawn from Newport News, VA on 2/11/2008
I bought these speakers and installed them in my kitchen which is adjacent my living room which has surround sound. in fact the two rooms share a common wall. Anyway, I use these speakers with my onkyo tx-sr702 using the zone2 input which also powers the speakers. Sure, these speakers don't have thumpin' bass, but you don't always need thumpin' bass. The sound quality and range for the polks are great and supply more than enough umph for washing dishes, cookin dinner and entertaining friends and family. I highly recommend these speakers and by the way they were extremely easy to install.

Pretty good
Chris from NJ on 1/25/2008
The speakers themselves are not bad at all. Mounting them was no problem. Getting wires to them is a different story if you do not have access above them via a crawl space or attic. Lot's of snaking and dealing with running wires. I put them in my kitchen for back ground music. I added recessed light at the same time which worked out since I was putting holes in the ceiling anyway. They sound very good for Jazz. The best way I can describe the sound is they are tight. My guess would be from around 150Htz to 20KHtz is reproduced accurately and they are not harsh on the high end. The swiveling tweeters are a nice touch. They lack low end bass response but for in ceiling speakers without a cabinet, I did not expect they would be great at reproducing low frequencies. Basically if you mount these you will want a subwoofer in that area. I power them with a 100W RMS older receiver. Although I'm pretty sure it's overrated and they get about 40-50Watts RMS. In all, if your looking for surround, background, fill type fill music these will do the job. However if your looking for complete reproduction of all the music and are somewhat of an audiophile you may want to buy something with a cabinet and find someway to mount them instead.

GREAT HOME THEATER SPEAKERS
JOHN from MILFORD,DE on 6/25/2007
THESE SPEAKERS ARE GREAT FOR HOME THEATER. THEY PERFORM VERY WELL FOR THE PRICE. I INSTALLED SEVEN OF THEM IN OUR FAMILY ROOM CEILING USING MONSTER CABLE'S IN WALL OR CEILING 14 AWG SPEAKER WIRE. I ALSO USED CRUTCHFIELDS INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOME THEATER SPEAKER INSALLATION. I CALLED POLK THEY RECOMENDED PLACING POLYESTER BATTING ON TOP OF THE SPEAKER WHEN DOING YOUR FINAL INSTALLATION TO HELP SOUND PROJECTION AND PROTECT THE SPEAKERS FROM CEILING INSULATION. I ALSO PURCHASED THE POLK PSW303 100 WATT POWERED SUBWOOFER TO FINISH THE SPEAKER SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM SOUNDS GREAT I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE WHO WANTS GREAT HOME THEATER SOUND AT A REASONIBLE PRICE. I WAITED SIX MONTHS AFTER INSALLATION BEFORE WROTE THIS REVEIW.

Whole house sound in the ZON
Nathan from KCMO on 5/13/2007
I got many of these with the ZON whole house audio system from Crutchfield. They mate well with the ZON amps and have a good clean sound. They don't have a lot of bass but are fine for background music from the ceiling or walls. If used with a subwoofer you'd be all set. I use a pair as my rear L&R speakers in my home theater and they are perfect in this role as well. I would suggest stepping up to 8in speakers if you don't have a sub.

You cannot go wrong with these
Iggy from Princeton, NJ on 10/10/2006
Very easy installation if you have your ceiling wired. I bought a fish tape at Lowes to run my own wires and that was anything but fun. However, I managed to do it on my own without any need to cut aditional holes. Before the installation it pays to do a little homework regarding the positioning of the speakers. Crutchfield has some info on this as well. The next trick is in figuring out where it is feasible to place them. I drilled small exploratory holes and used L-shaped wire, which was about 1/2" longer than the radius of the speaker. Once the holes are cut out and wires in place the installation is a piece of cake. The ability to aim the tweater comes in handy. They sound great but I recommend a subwoofer for the full home theater effect.

Polk Audio RC60i
Adam from Madison, AL on 7/11/2006
I installed 4 of these speakers in my living room and the only way installation could have been easier would be to have paid someone else. All you need is a pencil, dremel with a drywall bit, screwdriver and a shop vac. Draw a circle on the ceiling with the template, cut hole, insert speaker, turn 4 locking cam screws and the speakers are in place. It's that simple. Fishing the walls with speaker wires is a whole different story. They sound awesome, no rattle, and no distortion even when cranked way up. Great value and performance.

Awesome Speakers!!!
FItz from Spring Hill Florida on 6/24/2006
I did extensive research on in-ceiling speakers to find the most clear and crisp sounding applications. It came down to these vs. the infinity (in my price range $200) I even compared the 8" woofer speakers with these smaller ones. These were by far the most clear sounding speakers of the whole lot, even better than the 8" woofer designs. Now you must know that I have a 12" long throw MTX subwoofer so I did not need any base from these at all, just crisp mids and highs. Not only are they superb for surround sound but when I play music they seem to mimic the live sound of music. Amazing! Buy the speaker and you will be impressed.

Excellent for surround sound
Edgar from Gilroy, CA on 6/5/2006
I just installed 4 of these speakers in my small living room (12x15) for a 5.1 surround system, and they sound great. They were very easy to install. Much deeper bass than I was expecting for a speaker of this size, so they complement the subwoofer really well. This is without any type of baffling behind the speaker, and I have a lot of empty space above my ceiling. The directional tweeter makes it easy to adjust the high end to deflect off the walls correctly. My wife was impressed with the improvement in sound quality versus our previous HTIB system. I would highly recommend these speakers for anyone with a smaller room.

JOHN from Southeast, MN on 1/8/2006
Pros: Flexible and simple installation. Low installation depth. Relatively inexpensive. Cons: Cheesy spring clips for speaker connection Crossover components mounted to speaker backing without any protection/covering. Easy to damage; hard to handle; Imagine picking up a hard to handle speaker and your finger accidentally sliding and bending a capacitor. (very nervous moment for me) RC80 is better in this regard since you can handle speaker by rear magnet. Flimsy woofer cone
