Polk Audio Blackstone TL150
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Having trouble getting through movie night without nodding off and spilling the popcorn on the couch? Maybe it's time to upgrade your sound with Polk's Blackstone TL150 speaker system. Ideal for small- to medium-sized rooms, this convenient package gives you dramatic, engaging movie theater sound that'll keep your attention focused and your eyes glued to the screen. The four Blackstone satellite speakers and the center channel use some pretty advanced driver technology, so you experience impressively effortless sound from speakers that take up very little space. Just add a Polk subwoofer to get deep, rumbling explosions and room-thumping bass for all your favorite action flicks. You can even upgrade to a seven-channel home theater when you add a pair of TL1 satellite speakers to this system.
Polk's latest breakthrough is "Time Lens" technology, which aligns the drivers in such a way that all the frequencies reach your ears at the same time. It improves the speakers' soundstaging and imaging, so that you'll start to forget you're watching a movie and really feel like you're part of the action. This technology makes this system great for video games, too, because you'll be able to clearly pinpoint where sounds are coming from all around you, like monster roars or enemy gunfire.
The satellite and center channel speakers also use an "acoustic lens" in their grilles to disperse sound waves in a way that makes your movie and music soundtracks sound larger and more open. And unlike a traditional port hole, these speakers have something called an "aperiodic-tuned rear port." It's more like a breathable membrane that controls air flow in and out of the enclosure, giving them the acoustic benefits of both a sealed and a ported enclosure, including better bass extension and a pleasing mid-bass boost. It also means you can place these speakers in the open or against a wall, and still get great sound.
So happy I bought this! Paired with a Polk PSW10 sub and my den has never sounded better!

Crisp clear sound! I have them paired with an onkyo tr-nx777 reciever and klipsch r-10sw subwoofer. It is a great sounding system on a budget!
Nice light good sounding speakers. Great price. I have an old Infinity speaker system that I replaced with these Polk speaker. I used the mounts I already had installed that connected with the 1/4" threaded bolts. Im sure all mounts are different but the models I had did not extend far enough to reach the mounts under the key hole slots that Polk provides. Luckily all it took was a trip to Home Depot to grab a few 1/4" bolts that were long enough. Once I had the bolts replaced in my speaker mounts everything went smoothly.
Pros: Light, easy to mount, robust sound, terrific price from a known brand
Cons: Only come in black for this price - I would have preferred white to blend in with the ceiling mounts I have.
outstanding sound for its size. Very good looking and well finihed
So happy I bought this! Paired with a Polk PSW10 sub and my den has never sounded better!
Pros: Excellent quality. . .sounds amazing!
Cons: Glossy black can be a fingerprint magnet, but shouldn't have to worry about it once it's on the wall
Excellent speakers! My house flooded in South Louisiana on August 13th last year. Just got to the point where we could think about music and TV. I dealt with Wade @ Crutchfield and Wow! The house is full of music again. They fit our budget! These Polk Audio speakers replaced Bose single cube speakers and the sound is fantastic. Thanks, Wade and Thanks Crutchfield!
Pros: Not too much volume and they're LOUD :) Price
Good value sounds good I have nothing to complain about
Excellent speakers for there size in my family room, which by the way is 20x16.
Since we moved from a large home to an RV for retirement; I left behind all of my serious audio/video system, to my son who now lives in the home. I initially downsized with a Yahama theater in a box, which includes a good reciver, but the speakers suffered a lot. I ordered the TL150 Blackstone system to replace the speakers and it was a great decision. They are quality made, heavy duty and have excellent sound. Music, movies and just general TV are all greatly enhanced and I am super pleased with the purchase. I have owned POLK speakers previously and have never disappointed. If you need to have quality sound with a small footprint, these speakers are the way to go.
Compact and easy to mount. Clean sound at high volume.
Pros: Well designed and built
These are a great affordable speaker packages that livened up my home theater package. Great sounding!
Pros: Doesn't include a subwoofer if you already have one, only just what you need.
Like these little guys a lot for both the sound and the price
I have been an audio geek since I was a child. I have always played music and still do as an adult. I have had the Polk Rt25 speakers for 13 years and I needed to downsize for space reasons. They sound just as good as my beloved rt25 speakers in a smaller size. I recommend these to anyone looking for an affordable audio solution.
Best speakers I have owned
Pros: Great sound. Easy to install on speaker stands.
For the size of these speakers, they have a room full of great sound. The room that I placed them in is approx. 16'x16'. They work seamless with the Polk Subwoofer!
Pros: Great sound for being that small of a speaker.
Cons: I haven't encountered any problems yet.
I got these to complement my music setup with the RTi A3's for movies. For the price these sound good, but will definitely upgrade these later down the road. The center speaker I don't think has as a high enough frequency response for dialogue like I thought it would. Using 2 of the four satellite speakers as surround left and surround right sounds decent but not as loud as expected. YPAO had these +4db while my RTi A3's were at -1db. For the price overall they are awesome to start your home theater! My Setup: Yamaha RX-A1020 Bi-Amped Polk RTI A3 (L & R) Pre-Out Polk PSW125 Sub Polk Blackstone TL150 (center and SL & SR) 14 guage wire banana plugs to AVR and bare wire to speakers
Pros: Cool design and light in weight Good quality sound for the price
Cons: Not quite loud enough Grill was cheap and flimsy Highs weren't high on center speaker for dialogue
These speakers sound great. I initially bought just the center speaker. Replacing my older "surround sound in a box" center channel. Boy what a difference that made. I enjoyed the sound improvement so much that I returned the center and bought this 5 speaker set at considerable savings to buying them separately. I can't compare these to high end speakers or the slightly larger ones in a similar price point, but those just wouldn't fit my room set up. I had previously bought a Infinity P38 Sub, which I highly recommend to round out these smaller bookshelf surrounds. They have breathed new life into my 10+ year old surround receiver.
Pros: Sound, Size, Cost
Excellent speakers, especially considering their size. High sounds sound very crisp, at least crisper and clearer than my old Kenwood speakers. Good speakers for a small- to medium-sized room.
Pros: Size, clarity of high and mid sounds
I have been building a new home theater system one piece at a time and these just about finish it off. I was surprised at how heavy the box was, they are good quality and have great sound and not only all that but they look great too.... very pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend....
Great sound and perfect size for a small room. Wish it came with a sub, but still an agreeable price for what you get.
Bought them for my son's bedroom. Great performance. We are very pleased.
Pros: Compact and easy hang on installation. great sound from such a small system.
Cons: hard to find any for the price.
I switched from my cable to FiOS last year and had to get rid of a bad home entertainment system that was dying. I bought a new Sony receiver and kept the old Sony speakers. I needed a sub-woofer so I searched the internet and found the Polk PSW12 at a reasonable price and I was happy until 6 months later when the 5 Sony surround speakers got a massive volume spike and blew out. I learned then about 3 ohm and 8 ohm and how they don't go together. Now I had a bigger problem. Did you ever try to buy surround speakers without the sub. Limited opportunities unless you spend a good deal of money. I went back to the internet and I came across 4 5.0 speaker sets available that wouldn't break the bank. Spotting the Polk Audio Blackstone TL150 I knew my search was over. How better to complete the system than with speakers that matched my sub. I was really excited when they arrived. The size seemed small until I picked one up and felt the weight. Hefty speakers meant no rattle. Now I needed to see that for myself. I hooked them all up and the sound that came out was music to my ears. Clear crisp sound in all ranges from high to low. Great audio at night when I need to keep the sound down. I just wish I'd bought a Polk 5.1 system to begin with. Better late than never.
Pros: Small size so they can fit anywhere. Pro quality post connections and keyhole slots with threaded inserts for both mounting options.
This system has incredibly clear and clean sound! I run them with a Yamaha RX-V371 reciever and a Polk PSW404 sub. The clarity that I get from this combination is truely incredible. They don't have much of a low end but I knew that when I bought them and the sub makes it up very well. If you absolutely need more bass from your satellite speakers there are two higher levels in this product line that have larger elements and better porting but they are $100 and $200 more than these. Volume levels exceed my comfort level without distortion. For music they are decent but cannot match the volume of my old bookshelf speakers, but I didn't expect them to. The PSW404 is way more than I need to match these, I keep it at 1/3 volume, you could use a much smaller sub. For home theater, I highly recommend these, especially if you are looking for value. If money is not important, I would spring for the TL250 or TL350 since they are a bit bigger. BTW, 5 year warranty and legendary Polk service come with these.
Bought the tl150s they sound good but they are not as powerful as the klipsch quintets didn't buy the quintets because they were $100 more dollars at the time kind of regretting it now

Polk Audio Blackstone TL150 Five Speaker System: The Polk Audio Blackstone TL150 high-performance five speaker system features 4 matching satellite loudspeakers and a horizontal center-channel speaker. The Polk Audio Blackstone TL150 system offers a compact, high-performance solution for your home theater, music listening, or gaming needs. Plus you can add individually available, perfectly timbre-matched Blackstone TL speakers (107TL1B, sold separately) to expand your home theater experience into 6.1, 7.1, or 9.1 channels.
Note: The TL150 five speaker system has an overall frequency response of 120 to 22,000 Hz and will require a powered subwoofer (sold separately) for full-range sound.
Polk Audio Black Stone TL Series: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL series loudspeakers (TL1) feature new innovations specifically designed to enhance compact speaker performance. The Black Stone TL1 series speaker is a two-way satellite loudspeaker utilizing a bass-reflex enclosure with a rear-firing port. The TL1 series loudspeakers are equipped with 5-way binding posts and offer various mounting options.
Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Polk Audio's patented Dynamic Balance process allows Polk to design their drivers specifically for flatter frequency response, revealing the sharpest details and a more lifelike transparency, with absolutely no strain even at high volume. It's a bold, rich, warm, and lifelike sound.
Time Lens Technology: The sophisticated laser alignment of the "acoustic center" of the Blackstone TL tweeters with their accompanying drivers results in far superior imaging. The acoustic centers of the tweeter and mid-range woofer are aligned, creating a crisp accurate soundstage. The acoustic centers of the tweeter and mid-bass driver are located in the same plane for superior imaging, while the acoustic lens incorporated in the grille smoothes the tweeter's frequency response.
Drivers: The Black Stone TL1 satellite & center-channel speakers feature a two-way design.
Frequency Response: The overall frequency response of each satellite loudspeaker is 120Hz-22kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 135-20kHz. The overall frequency response of the center-channel speaker is 95Hz-22kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 125-20kHz.
Enclosure Type: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL150 speaker system features a non-resonant composite enclosure with time-aligned geometry and an aperiodic-tuned rear port.
Curved Enclosure Design: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL1 satellite speakers and center-channel speaker employ non-parallel surfaces that not only lead to a stronger, more rigid and acoustically inert enclosure, but they also result in less audible coloration from internal surface resonances.
Integrated Acoustic Lens: An innovative acoustic lens incorporated into the grille produces a high frequency response so smooth that it delivers a balanced, realistic performance. An acoustic lens is molded into the back of the speaker grille and helps create imaging frequency balance previously impossible in small high-performance satellite speakers.
Aperiodic-Tuned Rear Port: An aperiodic-tuned rear port enables better blending with a subwoofer. This design combines the bass extension of an acoustic suspension enclosure with the mid-bass boost of a ported enclosure by controlling airflow through the port for better extension without distortion.
High-Gloss Finish: The Polk Audio TL1 satellite speakers and center-channel speaker feature a durable, deep automotive-strength high-gloss black finish that matches today's most stylish flat-panel TVs.
5-Way Binding Posts: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL150 speakers are equipped with one pair of 5-way binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of speaker cables and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single or dual), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire (18-12 AGW).
Rubber Feet: The Polk Audio TL1 satellite & center-channel speakers feature integrated rubber feet so you can sit the speaker on a stand or shelf securely.
Wall Mountable: The TL1 satellite & center-channel speakers feature keyhole slots on the back of the cabinet for wall-mounting the speakers without any additional wall-mount bracket (mounting screws not supplied). There is also a 1/4"-20 threaded insert on the back of each loudspeaker for mounting the speaker to the wall using an optional articulating bracket (sold separately).
