About the Infinity REF-FLEX8

Bob Bihlmayer

Bass that fits in your vehicle

When you're looking to upgrade your vehicle's sound system, replacing your factory sub can be tricky — many new subs just won't fit in that location. Infinity's engineers created an ingenious solution to this problem with the Reference Flex Series which allows you to adjust the sub's mounting depth for a custom fit.

Flexible mounting

The FLEX8 8" sub features a patent-pending adjustable flange which lets you customize its mounting depth. You simply loosen the flange, then slide it down the motor structure until the sub fits in the opening (keep in mind that this raises your mounting height). This unique, innovative feature gives you far more flexibility when adapting the sub to the opening in your particular vehicle. Along with the flange, the speaker's low-profile design makes it easy to fit into your factory subwoofer opening for upgraded bass sound with minimum hassle.

And the sub's rugged polypropylene cone and rubber surround give the REF-FLEX8 the stiffness to punch out deep bass notes while minimizing distortion. This sub will work well with most factory amplifiers, but will deliver even more impressive performance with an aftermarket amp.

Measurements: Because the mounting flange is adjustable, the depth and height measurements vary based on the flange position. Depth varies from 2.52" with the flange in the top position, to zero with the flange in the bottom position. The corresponding height varies from 0.82" with the flange in the top position to 3.34" with the flange in the bottom position. Because we don't yet have programming in place to sort fit in factory subwoofer locations, contact one of our advisors to determine compatibility. There are a total of 22 positions with the following measurements:

Flange Position Depth Height
Top 2.52" 0.82"
  2.403" 0.937"
  2.284" 1.056"

Bottom 0" 3.34"

Dual 2Ω Voice Coils: The dual 2Ω voice coils offer wiring flexibility; when wired in parallel the woofer presents a 1Ω load, when wired in series the woofer presents a 4Ω load.

Terminals: The subwoofer has two pair of spring post terminals which accommodate bare speaker wire up to 12-gauge.

Enclosure: Although the Flex 8D is designed to replace factory subwoofers, there are enclosure recommendations listed in the manual. The optimum sealed enclosure volume is 0.93 ft³. The best ported enclosure volume is 0.9 ft³, using one 3" diameter x 10" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 34.44 Hz.

Customer Q&A

9 questions already asked

Q
I have a 2017 Ram and would like to replace the factory sub. Will this fit in the enclosure and if so, is it suitable for the factory sub enclosure?
michael  Aug 08, 2018
1 answer
A
This subwoofer wont' fit the enclosure in those Ram pickups. We do carry some subwoofers that can fit it. I recommend calling an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 for a personal recommendation on one! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
Is this speaker compatible with the select increments xj pod?
justin  Jul 05, 2018
1 answer
A
It will fit the enclosure but the XJ-Pod provides less than half the recommended airspace for the REF-FLEX8.

Q
Will this sub fit the enclosure in my 2010 Jeep Wrangler with a Infinity sound system?
gerardo  Jun 21, 2018
1 answer
A
The REF-FLEX8 is not a recommended fit in the stock subwoofer mount of your 2010 Wrangler. For additional assistance and personalized recommendations, feel free to contact us directly by phone or through our online chat service: https://www.crutchfield.com/support/ContactUs.aspx

Q
Will this Subwoofer fit 2011 Genesis Coupe 3.8 ?
james  Sep 11, 2019
1 answer
A
This subwoofer is not a good fit for the factory subwoofer location as it needs a bigger cutout diameter than is available for the sub. We do have other subwoofers that can fit and even one that can work with the stock amp. I recommend contacting an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to discuss your goals and plans to get a personal recommendation on a sub for that location.

Q
Will this work in a 2009 Ford flex, and also what is the lowest power this can run?
smfc1225  Jun 07, 2019
1 answer
A
If your Flex has the Sony stock system installed, doesn't look like this sub would be a good factory replacement. We do have a Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 sub that will fit in that location. But, due to some wiring and impedance differences, you'd likely benefit more from a new sub, being powered by an aftermarket amp. I suggest reaching out to an advisor online via chat, or by phone! We'll be happy to help!
