About the Infinity Kappa 20mx

3-way your Kappa components

Expand your Infinity Kappa Series component system with this pair of Kappa 20mx 2" midrange speakers. The Kappa glass fiber cone will hold its shape when the power's cranked up, giving you a robust midrange presence. Glass fiber weighs less than traditional materials, so you don't need a ton of power to drive these speakers, but oversized voice coils certainly help them handle up to 65 watts RMS.

Infinity's Plus One+ woofer technology extends the cone right up to the edge of the basket, giving you more surface area than with most comparable speakers. The extended cone also allows this speaker to cover effectively down to 550 Hz.

Crossovers included

Infinity includes bandpass crossovers for excellent tonal balance when incorporating these into a 3-way system.

Great addition !

I added this to the Kappa 6.5" component speakers for a 3-way speaker system in my 2015 Toyota Tundra. I'll start by saying the customer support I received from Crutchfield for fitment and an exchange (for another product) was superb. The free adapter plates for the 6.5"s was very nice aswell. These speakers are fantastic and check all of the boxes. Adding them to my component speaker system gave high end sound to my system on a budget. The separation of instruments and vocals sounds great! And they do get loud!! I couldn't be happier.

Pros: Great sound, volume, and the price point for the quality is impressive!

Cons: Some customization to fit in dash speaker slot on my '15 Tundra, not a con for the speakers, just my specific install. Was still easy enough.

Excellent speakers. I didn't want the high pitch sound of the smaller tweeters and these were perfect. Install on 2015 silverado was very easy.

Pros: Perfect fit, amazing sound

Cons: None

Bought these to turn my JBL GTO component set into a 3 way set using a DSP. Amazing sound! I have these band passed 1.2hz-2.8hz @ 18db/octave. This was a problem area with my component set and these mid ranges now cover these frequencies with much better precision. They allow me to lower the low pass on my midbass and to also balance the transition between them and my 1" tweeters which can handle a lower frequency than typical 3/4" tweeters. They play extremely loud with 75 watts pushing them so I had to reduce the level using the DSP. After tweaking the EQ and crossover along with a little time alignment the 20MX's shine with clarity. The size allowed me to mount these into the kick panels with my tweeters and the sound radiates across the entire front stage. If you're having midrange problems I highly suggest adding these to your setup.

Pros: Size Build quality Sound quality Appearance

Cons: The only con I can see is if you don't have a way to bandpass these and amplify them separately then they may be overbearing as they play loud!

These little things are pretty sweet. I'm not using the supplied crossover although it works fine. I have these in an active setup crossed for now from 500 to 4000 /24db on both. They sound great and are very efficient due to the low impedance. 2.5 ohm I think. I'd def buy again.

Pros: Price mounting is easy

Cons: None so far.

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
I Chose these speakers because I will be upgrading my speaker system in 2015 Camaro and due to space available I believe these will work. And they are a match for the next set of Kappas I will buy from Crutchfield. [ Master  Mar 18, 2019 ]
A
Great brand! And size needed. [ Willie  Feb 03, 2019 ]
A
I have a pair of Infinity Kappa 60.11cs components. The driver is very good at mid-bass to midrange but is lacking in upper midrange. So i'm adding these to help fill in the upper-midrange and turn it into a full 3-way system. [ Guest  Dec 16, 2018 ]
A

I have a pair of Kappa 6x8's in my car and they sound great plus I wanted to keep every thing as matched up as possible. I purchased the kappa 20mx because of the great reviews, cheaper than the ebay price. [ THOMAS  Oct 04, 2018 ]

Q
Since these integrate with the component crossovers, do they need a separate power source?
[ Mat  Dec 16, 2018 ]

A
I believe there is separate crossover included with the mids that connects to the woofer.
[ Timothy  Dec 16, 2018 ]
A
no they don"t the power goes through the crossovers.
[ Leslie  Dec 16, 2018 ]
A
No. The 20mx comes with its own "crossover" type box, but it still runs/splits off the same speaker wiring.
[ Kristofer  Dec 16, 2018 ]
Q
Any chance you can provide the measurements of the speaker brackets?
[ Mark  Jan 03, 2018 ]

A
The backing plate it mounted with 2 ears which the 2 mount holes are 3.90" center to center. The outside diameter of the plate is 3.25" except for the 2 mounting holes which the overall for those is 4.40" The hole for the driver is 2.60" You will need 1.40" for mounting depth. Hope that helps. Awesome mids !
[ Thomas  Jan 06, 2018 ]
Q
Would this fit in a 2007 Lexus IS250 w/o Mark Levinson? The hole in the door is something like 2-1/2 inch for a stock mid.
