About the Infinity Reference REF-6532ix

A modern classic

One thing's for sure — our customers love Infinity's Reference Series speakers. Year after year, car after car, options like these Reference Series REF-6532ix 6-1/2" car speakers remain a popular choice for replacing factory speakers because of their competitive pricing and superb sound.

A modern classic

One thing's for sure — our customers love Infinity's Reference Series speakers. Year after year, car after car, options like these Reference Series REF-6532ix 6-1/2" car speakers remain a popular choice for replacing factory speakers because of their competitive pricing and superb sound.

Enhanced highs

Step up to a 1" edge-driven dome tweeter for smoother highs with minimal breakup. Plus, push-button tweeter attenuation gives you a "brightness" quick fix.

Plus One+ woofer cone

The Reference Series polypropylene woofer with its durable hi-roll rubber surround ensures you'll enjoy powerful sound every mile you drive. Its oversized cone moves more air than other speakers of similar size, adding plenty of punch to the speaker's impressive performance.

Excellent power-handling

These speakers will really blossom when powered by an external amplifier, but they're also sensitive enough to be a good match for a factory or aftermarket stereo. Plus, Infinity comes up with a safe way to get a little more power out of your system — these 3-ohm speakers combine with the speaker wire in your car so your car stereo sees actual 4-ohm impedance.

Switched these out with my stock 6.5 in my Silverado. They sound great. Clear sound and good bass. More than my stock. No running and amp and they are just running off my stock radio. Will be better once I put an amp in

Crisp and powerful, a little work to install

Eric from Tuttle, OK on 5/23/2019

2008 Toyota Highlander

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Replaced factory speakers out of 2008 Toyota Highlander (base model). I thought that the factory speakers were decent and questioned whether I should upgrade. So that I could compare the two, I installed one Infinity Reference REF-9633ix speaker in the front right door and one Infinity Reference REF-6532ix speaker in the second row door on the right side. I wanted to be able to compare the sound of the stock factory speakers on the left to the Infinity Reference speakers on the right side. The difference was distinct, undeniable and thrilling. My 13-year-old son, who is used to listening to music on a cheap pair of earbuds, instantly noticed that the Infinity Reference speakers had more and deeper bass. I noticed that the factory speakers lacked the punch and crispness of the Infinitys. The factory speakers sounded muddy, especially on the lower notes. The Infinity side never sounded distorted and easily handled whatever volume was demanded. Also, look at the pictures I've uploaded, with the factory 6.5 speaker on the left compared to the Infinity Reference on the right. Look at the tiny magnet that the factory speaker has. It's slightly wider (inches diameter) than a U.S. quarter. You've got to be kidding! Neither the Infinity- nor Crutchfield-supplied (Scosche SAC-656) mounting brackets fit my 2008 Highlander perfectly, and I had to drill new holes to make it work. Fortunately, the extra work was worth it, and I highly recommend Infinity

Pros: Crisp, clean sound with strong bass for a 6.5" speaker.

Cons: Neither the Infinity- nor Crutchfield-supplied mounting brackets fit my 2008 Highlander, and drilling new holes became necessary.

Huge upgrade with factory head unit and easy installation in front doors and rear deck of 2008 Honda Accord sedan

Pros: Easy to install and lovely listening

Cons: Single-point connection provided by Honda for OEM speakers can leave these replacements rattling. A bit of extra padding is recommended.

I enjoy the rear speaker sound. Next, I need the front speaker package to really feel the effect. What's impressive is all the customer services and technicians that guided me along the way. Customers love Crutchfield!.

Pros: Price Cool looking in the box-lol Good sound.

Cons: Need front speaker package. Wires easily misaligned if jarred. No rear tweeter available

I purchased these as a gift to revive my sisters car sound system from one speaker back to four. These speakers impressed me for the price. Keeping things budget friendly, they were powered only by the stock head unit of 2007 Honda Civic. However, the sound quality was great. Highs, mids, and even a surprising amount of bass seemed to have won the best birthday present award. Thanks Crutchfield and Infinity!

Pros: Sound quality

Very impressive speaker. Huge upgrade over the OEM rear door units. Great range and very clear.

Pros: all of the components, trim, bezels, grills etc reek of quality.

Cons: Care must be taken if the supplied grills are not used and the speaker is installed behind a factory door panel. The angled tweeter can cause clearance issues. Second - the instructions related to the tweeter attenuation are almost buried in the massive instruction sheet - really had to look for the part that specifies how the tweeter adjustment works.

These are great! They are replacing a pair of Alpine Type S speakers. Was never really a fan of the Alpines. These produce a much larger sound stage, with noticeably clearer detail. Both were hooked up to the same Infiity Reference amp, and the 3 ohm load surprisingly makes a big difference; they are louder, with the same amp settings, than the Alpines.

Pros:

Cons: Free adapters that came with the speakers did not fit. But whatever, they were free.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

excellent clarity ! Might be a bit too bright though. A night and day difference from the stock (paper) speakers in my Jeep. On the stock speakers the highs were "ok" not shrilling at least, but the bass was just far too much ,. boomy and muddy. On the infinity reference, I opted to keep the attenuator at 0 db (not +3) and still sound pretty "bright". These are on the back door panels of my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2018,. the 6*9's are in the front. Those have a good, crisp bass punch to them, so it rounds out pretty well. installing and wiring up was extremely easy with the included harness and instructions from crutchfield Real happy with their service and "clarity" of instructions as well !!

Pros: Tight, punchy bass, Very clear and crisp sound overall

Cons: might be a bit bright on the highs,. I turned the treble down on head unit.

Reviewing speakers is subjective and subjectively I give this pair 5 stars. I like them more than any previous speakers I have owned. Crisp and clear, the highs are full without being shrill and the bass is rich and round without loosening your teeth.

Pros: Great sound

Cons: With my HU (no ext amp) they really don't start to perform until mid-volume, which in my dinky car is a little loud. Also, I have them mounted behind the door panel and can't play with the tweeter button, both of which are my application and not the speakers.

Features

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a cone larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Angled Tweeter: The tweeters are mounted at an angle (fixed), so they can be directed toward the listeners to improve imaging.

Tweeter Level Control: A switch on the front of the tweeter allows you to boost the tweeter output to +3dB, useful if the speakers are mounted low in a door where high frequencies are easily absorbed.

High-Output Design: The 3Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring, extracting more power from factory (or aftermarket) receivers.

Mounting: Without an adapter, the 6532ix speakers fit standard 6-3/4" applications. Given their required cutout, they will also fit 6-1/2" applications without an adapter, but new screw holes must be drilled. Using the included adapter brackets they can be mounted in a variety of 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" applications, without any modification. Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.

I just purchased a pair of this speakers. How do the speaker grills attach to the speaker. My guess in via Magnet? If so they are very weak and the grills fall off

If you slightly bend the grill then push it back in to the speaker surround they stay better. They are just in by compression

Sorry, I used existing OEM grills that came on the car and made custom speaker mounts. Crutchfield is real good usually about answering such questions and they can easily be reached by phone.

Mounting these speakers in my 99 Dodge Ram, I installed them in the doors where the factory speakers were. Not using the grills that come with the new speakers. I believe the grills would be used if you were surface mounting the speakers.

Unfortunately, I don't have the answer to that. Mine attached to the interior door frame and were covered by the door panel with GM stock speaker grills.
