Apple CarPlay integrates your iPhone to the Kenwood's touchscreen display.

More phone fun with Apple CarPlay® and WebLink™

Apple CarPlay puts your iPhone's content at your fingertips. Plug in your iPhone®, and this stereo's controls behave like your iPhone's interface to give you total access to your navigation, phone calls, weather, text messages, and of course all your music. Get more info at www.apple.com/ios/carplay.

This Kenwood includes WebLink, which provides you simple in-dash control over select apps like YouTube® and Yelp®. What's especially nice is that WebLink works with both Android and iPhone. So load up the free WebLink for Kenwood app, plug in your phone, and you'll have quick access to some handy infotainment for your journey.

Bluetooth convenience

Since yours is probably not the only phone used in your vehicle, the DDX9705S enables you to pair two Bluetooth-equipped phones and quickly switch between them for hands-free calling. And when you're streaming audio, Kenwood's Music Mix feature lets you pair five phones so everybody can pick their tunes for the ultimate road trip playlist.

Sweet display features

You can make the touchscreen display fit your needs by choosing from a wealth of colors and backgrounds, letting you tailor the look to match your vehicle. This Kenwood plays video content in bright, clear detail when you're parked. When you're on the road, you can entertain your passengers by sending a movie from the receiver to a rear-seat screen. You can also plug in front- and rear-view cameras to play it safe in crowded parking lots. The DDX9705S also includes a direct connection for Kenwood's DRV-N520 Drive Recorder dash cam, which means you get camera control and alerts directly on the receiver's display.

Lots of radio

If you dig Internet radio on your iPhone or Android, you'll really dig playing music from Pandora and Spotify on this receiver. If you're looking for radio stations that won't fade away when you look for new adventures, add a SiriusXM tuner to this Kenwood to enjoy satellite radio's deep programming from coast to coast. The DDX9705S also includes a sensitive AM/FM tuner to catch all your local stations too.

Get the most out of your audio

Got a high-res music library? You'll be stoked that the DDX9705S supports high-res file playback including FLAC and DSD files on a USB drive. When you're listening to music that's been compressed, Kenwood's Supreme setting helps bring back the depth and detail for all your digital music sources. If your car speakers are located down low in the doors, this receiver also offers Stage EQ, which adjusts your music's frequencies to virtually "raise" your speakers for better, more natural imaging. The DDX9705S also includes three pairs of 4-volt RCA preamp outputs that provide an ultra-clean signal when it's time to add amplifiers to your system.

iDatalink Maestro lets you keep your factory extras

The DDX9705S offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included). In a wide selection of vehicles, this module lets you keep factory features that you'd otherwise lose when you install a new radio. You'll also be able to check out engine performance data and other vehicle info on the Kenwood's screen. Once you've identified your vehicle, you'll see the iDatalink module offered on the way to the Shopping Cart if it's compatible.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

Great deal from the outlet on "last years" model for open box or scratch and dent (I don't remember which it was). It has all the features I need and installing it was as easy as any modern headunit. I would buy this again.

Pros: Lots of features... Good price

Cons: The screen can be hard to see with the glare.

    Good Receiver, Sound and Features

The receiver is great. the install could have been a lot easier. The Crutchfield cable adapter does not have all the needed wires so you have to open up factory cable and tap into lines. Also had to build an RCA connector to flat plug connector to connect an Infinity amplifier, and a cable from the Infinity amp to the plugs speaker wires. Only thing I wish the receiver had was vehicle speed input to adjust volume when vehicle speeds up on highway. Works great with Maestro existing steering wheel controls.

Had a hard time with the wiring for this unit to get everything to work. But after a long day troubleshooting, everything works as advertised. Sounds great and a ton of great features.

    Pros: Works as advertised

Cons: A little difficult to get wired and set up.

Easy to use. Lots of features. I really enjoy have the auto gauges and car play. I do wish "Pinch to zoom" worked on the maps, but otherwise maps through the phone works well. Fingerprints can be a little annoying, but I keep a microfiber cloth in the car for my glasses anyway.

Place to factory Toyota head unit. Great features. Wireless Android Auto, class screen, 13 band eq, flac support. Paired with the ident link maestro RR. Retained all functions minus navigation in the gauge cluster. Built-in amp is adequate. I recommend pairing with an external amplifier and component speakers.

Pros: Great eq and crossover settings. Wireless AA, glass screen,

Cons: The area where the buttons are sticks out 1/4 inch and looks stupid. I wish the button we're flush with the screen.

Not really worth the money spent. If you want to use any of its navigational or internet features, forget bluetooth, the head deck flunks school in this department. You HAVE no other choice but to connect WIRED direct to the unit with the device you're attempting to use pandora radio or navigation with. For a high priced DVD head unit it's an all around pass. Don't buy it! Sound quality is great and the potential is there but the whole app idea seemsike an afterthought.

Pros: Sound quality is great and is extremely flexible in its abilities with many options.

Cons: In order to use 80% of the options you are required to hard wire, yes, hard wire to this bluetooth device for the apps to work. The whole app layout seems to be a complete oops afterthought.

Overall it's a decent head unit. I paid more than I should have as I wanted wireless Android auto, but, as it turns out, my Galaxy Note 8 is not compatible with AA, at least not at this point. Also, I was on the phone with tech support several times based on an additional wire being required to connect to the parking brake. This was not supposed to be the case as I purchased the Maestro RR which was supposed to negate the need for additional wiring. By the way, Clint in tech support was awesome. Very good guy to work with. Anyyway, if I had it to do over again, I would have purchased a less expensive stereo since is going into a 12 year old truck (2007 Tacoma) and doesn't do the one thing I most wanted it to do.

    Pros: Overall nice stereo

Cons: Does not support Android Auto using Galaxy Note 8 at time of review (May 2019)

Overall, I love this receiver. The interface is laid out pretty well and is very visible while driving. The sound is excellent, and there are lots of options for tweaking it. Connectivity is great too... you can add front and rear cams, Sirius XM, GPS, you name it. The install was pretty straighforward, although tons of wires to run. The only complaint I have is that so far I can't get the wireless Android Auto working with my phone... not sure if that's a phone or receiver issue. But when connected wired, it works great.

Pros: Great sound, lots of options

Cons: Wireless android auto may not work with all phones

I have a panoramic sunroof which allows sunlight to hit right on radio making it difficult to see display this is the third radio I've tried another Kenwood DMX7705 which was difficult to read in Sunshine, Sony XAV-AX5000 which had better screen but interface was frustrating. This radio has display that can be tilted that helps with glare. There are two USB port that either can be used for iphone/android or flash drive unlike Sony/Pioneer, that are port specific. Interface looks nice if a bit over the top like that I can swipe through list of radio stations instead of pressing band button as well as swipe through files on flash drive. Android Auto works well and voice assistant works over blue tooth which Sony did not.Don't plan on using the DVD player but I got it for the tilting screen. Only real downside is screen is a fingerprint magnet and track up down scan to next station instead of next preset . Best part about Crutchfield is their support, tech worked for hours on steering wheel control issue, and adviser was very helpful getting Sony returned and this Kenwood on it's way

Pros: Nice screen, two USB ports, Solid Blue tooth

    Cons: Screen reflective

going back. unit sounds good but this particular model will not let you step through your presets on siriusxm. called kenwood twice and it is not an option. so if you're using carplay (gps, whatever) and listening to sxm, you must up or down every... single... sxm station with the steering wheel controls OR get distracted and start playing with the touchscreen. a deal breaker for me. unit has also randomly kicked me out of carplay while on the phone. using waze just fine then it kicked me out of waze and into the kenwood phone screen. updated firmware with no luck. see ya!

Best deck iv ever owned. Made my last screen kenwood look like trash. This thing is amazing, from performance, the bomb EQ making my door speakers sound legit to the USB port supporting rapid charge! Well worth the money. Get the prewired option for DIY. Fyi, you get extra crap wiring that makes it confusing at first but YouTube clears it up.

Pros: Rapid charge from usb, EQ is A1 like steak sauce, is everything you think plus more.

Cons: Had to look on YouTube for a default error that Google tried to do to much on. Android auto has a weird put it in park thing that wouldnt let me move forward but YouTube is a beautiful thing...

I really like it. Android auto is just OK. Sounds good, easy set up. Would like more control over screen items as some radio station icons are too bright.

I bought this unit so I could use my samsung 9+ to conect to android auto wirelessly through the wifi system. I have to use the usb cable. The samsung 9+ is not compatable with the kenwoods wifi system yet and neither is the samsung10. I called kenwood, they said it is the phone. I called samsung they said they are working on a patch and it will be released as soon as it is approved. I am waiting for the patch and enjoying android auto and weblink throug the usb cord while waiting. Great unit.

Love this thing! First time using Android auto and it's great. Waiting for Android 9.0 to be released on my phone in order to try wireless Android auto but I anticipate it to be great. Would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking to upgrade their existing vehicle to latest tech.

Pros: Great sound and the Kenwood GUI and features are instinctive and intuitive.

Cons: This has more to do with the iDatalink Maestro but I cannot program the seek buttons on my steering wheel to do the station presets on the head unit. It only does seek, will not step through the presets like it did with factory unit.

My brother had this unit installed in his Jeep about 6 months ago and he loves it. While visiting for the holidays I had the oportunity to take a look at it. I appears to be a nice unit, has alot of nice features and the sound is good. So, I made the decision to replace the Alpine CDE-HD149BT in my 2005 wrangler with a touchscreen/carplay style receiver. I have always been an Alpine fan but for the price point I was looking at Alpine didnt had a Carplay/DVD/CD capable unit available. I pretty much had my mind set on the Kenwood unit I did some more on-line research. One thing that I noticed while looking around on-line was that there are alot of refurbished Kenwood units available. This sets a red flag for me. I dont want to spend my hard earned cash on a product that has a likelyhood of failing. After further research on various car audio forums I decided not to purchase a Kenwood unit. I did end up puchasing an Alpine iLX-207 mech less unit based on recommendations from Crutchfield. Everything arrived very quickly, just waiting for the weather to change to do the install.

Pros: Has a lot of nice features

Cons: I don't like the fact that there are so many refurbished Kenwood units available.

Overall, the receiver does a great job. This receiver has a lot of additional audio features. There are two negatives. One is Android Auto (Waze) does not like this receiver, and likes to crash. Second, the Kenwood Android app is just ok. I would not purchase this radio if that is your primary reason.

    Pros: Audio quality Great display

Nice radio. Installation very straightforward and simple. Only complaint is that wave app is too large for screen when using Kenwood weblink and waze on Pixel2 XL smart phone. You cannot see the time, est arrival etc at bottom of screen. Called Crutchfield and was told it was a known issue that Kenwood may, or may not fix and to just use "Android Auto". I also went to Kenwood site and verified radio has latest firmware and verified I am using latest version of Waze.

Pros: Ease of use. Ease of installation. Lot of accessories and add-ons.

Cons: Kenwood may want to work more closely with third parties that they claim work with the radio,

Top notch product from kenwwod. Would recommend these stereos to anyone looking for a modern unit to bring excitement and immersive features to any vehicle owner. The idatalink rr interface brings all kinds of fun info to the screen of an older vehicle without the features from the factory. I purchased this unit because it has wireless Android Auto. What I missed was that currently only the google phones. I have a Samsung S8+. So when it did not work I was pissed. But after plugging the phone in with the USB I realized that it Weblink. Thats pretty cool. Also if you use Waze its awesome. Your phone is also charging while plugged in. The sound quality is great. The HU is installed in a 2001 Chevy Silverado. Speakers are Kicker CS 6.5 in front door and Kicker CS 6x8 in the rear door. The stock speaker is a 4x6. Yes, Cut the opening to install the larger speaker. There is enough depth. The is much fuller. Bass is fulfilled by 2 10" Kicker Comp Subs mounted in a custom box mounted under the rear seat. A Helix Blue B Five is pushing the entire system. The amp was purchased from Crutchfield in 2012. I love the setup. I Love it so much I am considering upgrading my Kenwood DNX 7704 to this unit because the screen has the built-in anti glare. Thanks Crutchfield.

The Kenwood DDX9705S is a great update this year with two awesome new features, WebLink (Waze and YouTube) and WIRELESS Android Auto! I was replacing an older Kenwood radio, DNX6190HD, I could immediately hear an improvement in audio. The radio is also very responsive compared to even last year's models. This radio is worth every penny.

Wireless Android Auto: The Kenwood receiver supports the Android Auto app for select Android smartphones using a wired or wireless connection. You can connect Google's Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3XL, Nexus 6P, and Nexus 5X (running Android OS 8.0 Oreo or higher and version 3.1 or higher of the Android Auto app) to the Kenwood receiver wirelessly using WiFi and Bluetooth (both wireless connections must be made; a wired USB connection must be made initially between the Android phone and the Kenwood receiver to setup Wireless Android Auto). Android smartphones running Lollipop 5.0 or higher can be connected to the Kenwood receiver's "grey" USB port (not "black") using the included USB extension cable and USB cable that came with your smartphone, plus be paired via Bluetooth. Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for driving and automatically brings you useful information and organizes it into simple on-screen "card-style" pop-ups that appear just when they're needed. It's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road ahead. Features of Android Auto include -

    • Google Assistant: The Kenwood receiver enhances your Android Auto experience even more by incorporating Google Assistant using the head unit's external microphone and your car speakers for voice command and text-to-speech, which makes using Android Auto and all of its integrated applications fast, easy, and safe. You will need to press the "mic" button or say "OK Google" to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make a call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, or listen to music.
    • Google & Waze Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. Select your destination by using the head unit's touchscreen or just say where you want to go through the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You can even listen to music from your Android Auto device or other connected source device while using Google Maps. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
    • Phone & SMS: With Android Auto you get access to your contacts and messages through the Kenwood receiver while keeping your eyes on the road. Use the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology to make a phone call, or have your text-messages read aloud to you while you concentrate on the road ahead; you can even reply to texts via voice command.
    • Music: Access your Android smartphone's music library through the Kenwood receiver via Google Play Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen to select songs or just say what song you want to listen to through the head unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You also get access to online music and radio stations from Amazon Music, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, & Tune-In. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo.

    Notes:

    • Only one Android device with Android Auto can be connected at a time.
    • An Android Auto device and Apple CarPlay device cannot be connected at the same time.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Android Auto is being used with a connected Android smartphone.
    • Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable other than the one supplied.
    • If you need an additional USB extension cable, use Kenwood's CA-U1EX USB extension cable (113CAU1EX, sold separately); any other USB extension cable can cause Android Auto to malfunction.
    • Click here to learn more About Android Auto and to see what phones are compatible.
    • The unit's built-in WiFi can only be used for Android Auto (not designed to be used with WiFi hotspots).

Apple CarPlay Compatible: Apple CarPlay is the smarter, safer in-vehicle interface to operate your iPhone (iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector. Your iPhone must be connected to the Kenwood receiver's "black" USB port (not "grey") via the included USB extension cable and the Lightning-cable that came with your Apple device or Kenwood's Lightning connector-to-USB cable (113KCIP103 sold separately). CarPlay features Siri voice control and is specially designed for driving scenarios. It also works with the Kenwood receiver's touchscreen controls. Use CarPlay to get directions, make phone calls, listen to voice mail, send/ receive messages and select music in a way that keeps you focused on the road ahead.

    • Apple Maps: The power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze (coming soon), you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have there own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone & Messages: You'll be able to make calls, return missed calls, and listen to voicemails through the Kenwood receiver. Siri can also help you do all these things. In addition, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages for you; so you never have to look at your iPhone while driving.
    • Music Library: Access your artists, song, playlists, and iTunes Radio on your iPhone using the Kenwood receiver's touchscreen. Or, just tell Siri what you'd like to listen to. The head unit's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background.
    • Apps: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, radio, sports, news, podcasts, & audiobooks. Control them from the head unit's touchscreen just like you would from your iPhone. Current supported apps include (fees may apply):

    Notes:

    • Only one Apple CarPlay device can be connected at a time. Must be connected to the "black" USB port (not "grey" USB port).
    • An Android Auto device and Apple CarPlay device cannot be connected at the same time.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • If you need an additional USB extension cable, use Kenwood's CA-U1EX USB extension cable (113CAU1EX, sold separately). Any other USB extension cable can cause CarPlay to malfunction.

    WebLink (for iPhone & Android):

Download the Kenwood WebLink app (for Apple iOS 9.0+ and Android OS 4.4+) and connect your compatible iPhone or Android smartphone via USB to access some of your favorite apps such as YouTube and Yelp through the Kenwood DDX9705S. Your iPhone must be connected to the receiver's "black" USB port (not "grey"). Your Android smartphone should be connected to "grey" USB port (not "black"). Using these apps through the large, clear touchscreen of the DDX9705S makes WebLink a safe and easy way to access popular navigation, media, weather apps while in your vehicle.

    • Yelp: Yelp uses automated software to recommend the most helpful and reliable reviews for the Yelp community among the millions submitted. The software looks at dozens of different signals, including various measures of quality, reliability, and activity on Yelp. Let Yelp help you find the best Restaurants, Hotels, Automotive Service Centers, Banks, Shopping Malls, and more. Search by Category, Favorites, Distance, Point on the Map, or Keyword. A keyword search requires that  your vehicle's parking brake be engaged.
    • OpenWeatherMap: Within WebLink is the OpenWeatherMap app, which gives you today's forecast and a four day outlook of the weather in your area.
    • YouTube: With WebLink, you can access YouTube and play videos on the Kenwood receiver's touchscreen monitor (your vehicle's parking brake will need to be engaged). You can select videos from a variety of categories or search by keyword(s).
    • NextRadio: The NextRadio (for Apple iOS 10.0+ and Android OS 4.2+) lets you tune to every local FM station by using your smartphone's built-in FM chip. NextRadio lets you experience local FM radio by showing album art, station logos, and song & program details in an engaging display. NextRadio's Newsfeed lets you stay current with your favorite stations by curating a personalized display of related content based on your listening preferences. View stations' tweets, artist info, hot songs, contests, upcoming concerts, emergency alerts and more
    • MediaPlayer (Audio Only): WebLink allows you to access your Apple iOS or Android devices stored music library for playback. From the DDX9705S's touchscreen, you can browse your phone's music library by Artist, Album, Genres, Playlist, or Songs. You can also search your music by typing in an artist's name or a song title (the vehicle's parking brake has to be engaged for this feature). In addition, you get playback controls such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, & Random/Repeat. The digital media receiver's screen will display song/artist/album information, along with album art.

    • Realizer: When MP3, WMA, or AAC files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Realizer feature boosts low frequencies which can be lost during compression. Set to Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, or Off.
    • Supreme: When MP3, WMA, or AAC files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Supreme Setting function restores their high frequencies so the sound quality is closer to files encoded at a high bit rate. The processing is optimized for the compression format and the bit rate used. When the Supreme Setting is Off, the unit plays the original sound stored in the audio file.
    • Space Enhancer & Stage EQ: You can set the Space Enhancer to Small, Large, or Off. Each setting value indicates the soundscape level. You can also virtually raise the sound position heard from your speakers; the Stage EQ can be set to High, Middle, Low, or Off.

Volume Level & Bass Management: The DVD receiver offers several volume level adjustments to tailor the audio output of your sources. The DDX9705S also provides bass management to get the most impact out of your system.

    • Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to +6.
    • Dynamic Range: The dynamic range can be adjusted by selecting either Normal, Wide or Dialog. Dialog makes the total sound volume become larger as compared with Wide and Normal, allowing you to listen to the movie's dialogue more clearly. This is effective only on Dolby Digital software.
    • Bass Boost & DC Extension: The DDX9705S features a four-step Bass Boost (Off/1/2/3) to enhance your music's lower frequencies. When "Bass DC Extension is turned on, frequencies lower than 6.25 Hz are set the same gain level as the unit's 13-Band EQ 62.5 Hz gain setting.
    • Loudness: This function enhances low and high frequencies to make the sound clearer lower volumes.

Source Beep: The in-dash receiver provides an audible beep to confirm source selection. This function can be turned On or Off.

    AV/Camera/OEM Connectivity

AV Input: The Kenwood DDX9705S DVD receiver is fitted with a rear-panel minijack (3.5mm) audio/video input to connect external AV sources, such as a game system, Blu-ray player, or TV tuner.

AV Output (with Dual Zone): The unit features a composite video jack and 3.5mm audio jack to output AV signals to an optional monitor and headphone system. The unit's AV output can be set to Disc, AV-In, USB, or Off. Volume of the second zone can be controlled by the DVD receiver or your rear entertainment system.

    • If you select USB, iPod, Disc, Spotify, Pandora, or Bluetooth as the main source; you cannot select USB  as the AV output source.
    • If you select WebLink (YouTube), CarPlay, or Android Auto as the main source; you cannot select Disc or USB as the AV output.
Note: WebLink (YouTube), CarPlay, and Android Auto cannot be displayed through the receiver's video output.

Rear & Front Camera Inputs: The unit features a composite video input for connecting an optional rear view camera, such as the Kenwood CMOS-230 (113CMOS230, sold separately). By connecting a rear view camera, you can use the in-dash receiver's touchscreen LCD to see what's behind you when backing up. There is also a composite video input for connecting a front dash-cam (sold separately), so you can display what's ahead of you on the head unit's touchscreen LCD monitor.

    • Parking Guide Lines: When a rear-view camera is connected and you are viewing a rear view image, parking guide lines appear on-screen making parking easy and safer. There are three color-coded horizontal guidelines and two vertical guidelines.
    • Rear-View Auto Switching: The video from this connection can be set to display when switched to this input, or display the rear view camera video automatically when the vehicle is shifted into Reverse gear. The purple/white wire of the wiring harness must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching. Automatic video switching takes approximately 0.8 seconds.
Note: The rear view camera feature is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Dash Cam Ready: In addition to the front camera input, the DDX9705S is equipped with a proprietary "Dash Cam" control input for connecting Kenwood's DRV-N520 dashboard camera (113DRV520, sold separately). The DRV-N520 offers high resolution 1080p recording, plus motion detection technology. The dashboard camera's live and recorded video are displayed on the DDX9705S' touchscreen. You'll also control the DRV-N520's settings and parameters from the receiver's touchscreen.

OEM Integration: This Kenwood DVD receiver is compatible with the iDatalink Maestro RR (794ADSMRR, sold separately); a web programmable module that will permit the aftermarket Kenwood receiver to work with select Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles that feature the factory SYNC system; as well as select GM vehicles with factory OnStar; select Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep vehicles with U-Connect, plus select Honda/Acura, Toyota/Scion, Volkswagen & Subaru vehicles with factory digital amplifiers.

    • Retained Features: The iDatalink Maestro RR lets Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, GM, Dodge/Chrysler, and VW owners swap out their factory radio for this aftermarket Kenwood head unit; while retaining the Ford Sync system, GM OnStar system, Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep U-Connect system, steering wheel controls, Bluetooth, USB interface, Satellite Radio, and 911 assist. You also get to keep the hands-free mic that comes with the car (which is specially tuned to that particular vehicle). *Retained features will vary by vehicle.
    • Extra Features: In some installations, the iDatalink Maestro RR lets you configure the head unit to operate interior climate controls and provides extra visual data; such as User Selectable Gauges, Vehicle Info (Tire Pressure/Battery Voltage/Check Engine Codes/Door Ajar Warning), and Visual Park Assist. *Extra features will vary by vehicle.

Note: The iDatalink Maestro RR is web programmable, which means you'll need to flash the iDatalink Maestro RR interface module with the correct firmware from iDatalink's website. In addition to flashing the iDatalink Maestro RR module, you'll also need a vehicle specific harness (sold separately). The Kenwood receiver's OEM Setup menu must also be configured with your compatible vehicle's factory system before initial operation.

    Touchscreen & Remote Control

6.95" Capacitive Touchscreen: The Kenwood DDX9705S features a 6.95" widescreen (16:9) capacitive touchscreen LCD with LED backlighting. The LCD touchscreen has a resolution of 800 (H) x 480 (V) x RGB with 1,152,000 total pixels. The capacitive touchscreen LCD provides a high contrast ratio, crystal clear display, and vivid text; as well as highly responsive touchscreen operation. Touchscreen operations include tap, touch & hold, flick left or right, and swipe up or down.

    • Custom Home Screen & Shortcuts: You can customize the head unit's Home Screen by rearranging the icons and moving the icons of the eight most sources you use most to the first page of the Home Screen. Three programmable shortcut source keys offer a quick jump to your favorite sources from almost any screen.
    • Background Color & Wallpapers: You can choose between nine preset background colors - Blue, Purple, Sky Blue, Yellow, Green, Amber, Red, Pink, White. You can also choose to link the displays color with the unit's front-panel variable color illumination that you set. In addition, there are six preset background images (wallpapers) or you can download your own still image (800 x 600) for use as the unit's background from a connected USB thumbdrive.
    • Angle Adjustment: The bottom of the touchscreen monitor can be tilted upward at six different positions to provide the best visibility in your vehicle (you can save any one of these positions to the head unit's memory).
Note: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire (within harness) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display a blue screen and "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork; as well as CarPlay and Android Auto.

Front-Panel Controls w/ Variable Color Illumination: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons along the bottom edge of the screen. You can adjust the head unit's button illumination, as well as display background color from the following preset colors - Blue, Purple, Sky Blue, Yellow, Green, Amber, Red, Pink, White or Scan (Scans through all preset colors). You can also select a custom "User" color that is adjusted between Red, Green, and Blue (values range: 0-31).

Dimmer: The dimmer function will dim the head unit's display & front-panel illumination automatically when your vehicle's light switch is turned On, if you have the unit's orange/white "Illumination" wire connected to your vehicle's headlamp circuit. You can also choose to dim the display manually. The Kenwood logo and eject button remain the same brightness.

Clock & Date: The DVD receiver offers a 12-hour clock & day/month/year display. The clock is visible from any source or menu screen. With your vehicle's key in the accessory or start position, the head unit will continue to display the LCD background image, clock, and button illumination during "Standby" mode. Pressing and holding the Power/Home button turns the unit off completely.

Remote Control: The Kenwood DDX9705S offers compatibility with factory steering wheel controls (adapter sold separately) and is compatible with Kenwood's IR wireless remote control (sold separately) for added convenience. Kenwood also offers a remote application which allows you to control the receiver from your smartphone device.

    • Steering Wheel Controls: The head unit features a factory steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).
    • Optional Remote Control: The optional Kenwood KNA-RCDV331 IR wireless remote control (113RCDV331, sold separately) unit is designed to operate this Kenwood DVD head unit. The wireless remote controller operates off of two supplied "AAA" batteries. The remote operates off of IR transmission so the KNA-RCDV331 must be pointed at the front-panel of the Kenwood head unit within direct line of sight.
    • Remote S App: The Kenwood Remote S (for Apple iOS 9.0+ and Android OS 5.0+) is an application that will connect and control the in-dash receiver from your compatible Apple or Android device via Bluetooth, like a wireless remote control. You can select source input, as well as command basic playback controls such as Play/Pause or Previous/Next Track from the touchscreen of your compatible smartphone. This application can also display the receiver's source and song/artist information on the screen of your compatible Apple iOS or Android device.

    Q
If this doesn't have navigation, why does it have a GPS antenna?
    [ Darren  May 24, 2019 ]

    A
That's a good question... From what I can tell, it uses the GPS antenna to set the clock. So that's neat.
    [ David  May 26, 2019 ]
    A
You can display a compass on the radio screen, you mount the gps antenna on your dash.
    [ Dean  May 25, 2019 ]

If you connect wirelessly you can run your Android Auto or Carplay without needing to get your phone out of your pocket. Plus, if you connect through USB you normally would keep your phone low (on a seat or by the gearshifter) and the Included GPS antenna does the heavy lifting.

I didn't hook it up. Didn't notice anything different

    For the compass
    [ Brian  May 24, 2019 ]
    A
It does not have Navigation built in but does work with your Maps app or Waze app on your phone. GPS antenna helps maintain your location in bad cell reception area. I believe the Compass uses the GPS for positioning as well.
    [ RYAN  May 24, 2019 ]

It's a backup for your phone in case you lose the signal. The GPS from your phone is mirrored on the screen.

    Q
Exactly how does the 'optional' navigation portion work for this radio?
    [ Stan  May 06, 2019 ]
    7 answers
    A
You have to be using either Android Auto or the Apple Car app, or connected via a cable to your phone and use the Kenwood app - there's no built in GPS functionality without a phone attached.
    [ Jonathan  May 06, 2019 ]
    A
You use your phones app such as google map or map on iPhone
    [ Robert  May 06, 2019 ]
    A
There is NO GPS navigation built in to this unit. If you don't bring Android Auto or the Apple version, you have NO navigation. While it works for me -- and I love Android Auto -- I really regret not buying one that HAS built-in GPS AND offers Android Auto. If your phone doesn't support this - you're out of luck. Cheers!
    [ RICK  May 06, 2019 ]
    A
not quite sure never used it.
    [ Brian  May 06, 2019 ]
    A
It uses the navigation app on your phone and puts it 9n its screen.
    [ Randall  May 06, 2019 ]
    A
There is no native navigation on this however you can use carplay or Android auto for navigation.
    [ Isaac  May 06, 2019 ]
    A
Its got andriod auto...navigation on your phone will directly switch over to the radio as soon as your in the car...I know that's not exactly your question but who cares what options it has, it's got andriod auto which is the best option you'll need, anything you phone can do your radio will be able to work together so the directions will come through speakers, the map will be on the screen, bit it's using your phone as the brains of the operation. Same goes fo music, phone, alerts
