Customer Q&A

22 questions already asked

will the kca-rc55mr work with the kmr-d378t ?
[ Tim  Oct 25, 2020 ]
1 answer
Yes, it did work in my boat. However, if you have a new Android you will be forced to use Bluetooth as the phone will not transfer music via the cable as iPhone does. Super annoying because there is a noticeable sound quality difference between the two.
[ STEVEN  Nov 19, 2020 ]
Is this compatible with the Kenwood KMR D772BT head unit?
[ Mark  Aug 22, 2020 ]

Hi Mark, thank you for your question. Yes, the Kenwood KCA-RC55MR wired remote, is compatible with the Kenwood KMR-D772BT receiver.
[ Jess  Sep 07, 2020 ]  Staff
yes, looking at the KMR D772BT head unit, it does appear to have the correct wiring adapter for this remote to work properly.
[ Nick  Sep 04, 2020 ]
Yes. If you look in the accessories drop down menu. You can see it's available for this radioEnter

Can remote be mounted on the Swim Platform of my boat of which will get wet?
[ Allan  May 23, 2020 ]

[ DAVID  May 23, 2020 ]
We have the same remote on the swim platform of our boat. Gets wet often and we have yet to have an issue.
[ ZACH  May 23, 2020 ]
yes, this is supposed be rated to be able to get wet. I had this mounted on the stern of my last boat and it worked fine. I would recommend ensuring it is well above the water line of the boat as submersing it would likely ruin it, but occasional splashes of water should not be a problem.
[ Nick  May 23, 2020 ]
Based on the reviews I have read, I would not install this remote on the transom of the boat where it will be exposed to water and direct sunlight.
[ MICHAEL  May 23, 2020 ]
what size are the bolts that screw into the back of the remote?
[ john  Apr 24, 2020 ]
1 answer
The bolt sizes have not been published by Kenwood. We recommend contacting Kenwood's support team to gain information on proper sizing for hardware at 800-536-9663. They should be able to assist you.

I am installing the KCA-RC55MR and i wanted to know if there is there a way to mount it without having rear access to install the bracket and screws/nuts?
[ Brian  Jul 12, 2019 ]

You could fabricate a custom enclosure ( eg. a square box) and surface mount it. Of course you will still be left the task of routing the cable. That may be as simple as drilling a hole in the center behind the mounting location. Marine starboard material to fabricate an enclosure should do the trick. It pretty much is like working with wood. Good Luck!
[ RONALD E  Jul 12, 2019 ]
I suppose there's always a way....probably some modification to the mounting system and how its attached to wherever its mounted. Mine was a conventional in dash mount.
[ SHAWN P  Jul 12, 2019 ]
You need a hole for the cable and the rear sticks out a bit. I then used 3M interlock which worked perfectly!!!! Basically strong water proof Velcro. I used no hardware
[ Blake  Jul 12, 2019 ]
Can i use this remove with a Kenwood 893s head unit that is not a marine radio ?
[ Sheldon  Apr 18, 2018 ]
1 answer
if your head unit accepts a remote, you will need to check the compatibility. Kenwood customer service should be able to help, and I believe Crutchfield should be able to provide you with that phone number.

Does this remote have a clock function?
[ Rich  Jul 08, 2017 ]

Not that I am aware of. I have not programmed all functions.
[ Thomas  Jul 10, 2017 ]
Yes, you have the option to display it with various functions
[ Jeff  Jul 09, 2017 ]
Not that i am aware of. It offers the basic function of the head unit (on/off, volume, source, fwd/previous).
[ JOHN W  Jul 08, 2017 ]
Can I wire a KCA RC55MR and a KCA RC35MR to the same head unit? Or do both of the marine remotes have to be the same? I currently have two RC35MR remotes and would like to replace the one on the stern of the boat with the RC55MR.

I used the mfg setup in an automotive set up. I doubt your setup will work because the. Head unit only has one jack...unless you can find a splitter. I would recommend contacting Kenwood.
[ Thomas  Oct 04, 2016 ]
You can but the KCA-RC55MR has a large round plug on it so it's wired differently. You have to purchase the extension cable for this remote. The physical size of the connector (1 inch round) on the remote and extension cable made this remote difficult to install.
[ Shaun  Oct 03, 2016 ]
Can I connect this device to a kenwood KMR D562BT marine stereo?
[ Jeff  Mar 13, 2016 ]

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility. They will be able to pull up your components and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Good afternoon, I have the remote mounted on my motorcycle at home. The diameter is approximately 4 1/4 " and the thickness is abour 1 1/4" If you need more exact infomation please let me know. Kindest regards1 John
[ John  Sep 10, 2015 ]
does it come with a cable and how long if it does?
[ Cory  Aug 31, 2015 ]

It does not come with a cable! The attached cable is only about 3 ft long. You have to buy an extension cable separately if you need to go the distance to a receiver from the dash. I have learned this from experience after receiving the unit, and then I needed to order and wait to get the extension cable. Crutchfield should tell you this in the remote description or suggest it when you check you check out.
[ Daniel  Sep 02, 2015 ]
no it does not
[ Yvonne  Aug 31, 2015 ]
I believe it came with about a 3 foot cable. But I had to buy the 6 foot extension cable. To make it work with my set up.
[ jeffrey  Aug 31, 2015 ]
yes, approximately 6 feet long.
[ JEFFREY  Aug 31, 2015 ]

Does this remote unit work with the Marine KMR-d358?
[ Ryan  Jul 09, 2014 ]
1 answer
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Not according to the information posted on our website: Optional Marine Wired Remote: The Kenwood KCA-RC35MR wired marine remote control (113RC35MR, sold separately) is designed to withstand the harsh marine environment. The Kenwood add-on wired remote features source selector, music search, and volume control buttons. Note: The head unit's wired remote input wire (blue/yellow) also lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible. So, the only one we list as compatible is the KCA-RC35MR: If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Can the KCA-RC55MR work with the KMR-D558BT?
[ Mark  Apr 08, 2014 ]

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: That KCA-RC55MR marine remote is not listed as compatible with the KMR-D558BT marine receiver. The only remote listed for it is the KCA-RC35MR, pictured below: From our website on the KCA-RC55MR: Compatibility: The KCA-RC55MR marine wired remote control is compatible with the Kenwood KMR-550U, KMR-555U, KMR-700U, and KMR-440U marine head units which feature a proprietary 8-pin remote input. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

I am looking to install this on the transom of my boat. How big is the hole for the installation? I read a Sony one that required an almost 3.5" hole for install. Any details on the installation would be great. Thanks.

I haven't installed mine yet as I'm waiting for warmer weather to work on the pontoon. I measured the 3M gasket's inside section that comes with the wired remote and it looks like you'll need to make a 2 inch hole for the Kenwood remote.
[ Jared  Feb 09, 2014 ]
I don't remember but Im pretty sure it's smaller than that prob like 2"
[ Fast25  Feb 08, 2014 ]
I really don't remember. One of my guys did the work I can't imagine needing a 3" hole to mount it though. Still depending on where you want to mount it 3" shouldn't be a big deal either
[ GREG  Feb 08, 2014 ]
2.075" cutout. Unit is 3.47" in diameter. Mounting depth is .515". I put mine in a standard size gage hole in the dash. Make sure the surface is flat. Otherwise you can easily crack the unit from the uneven stress load.
[ MATTHEW  Feb 08, 2014 ]
Just curious as to if I can get this remote to work with Kenwood head units other than the marine units. I read the details, it has an 8 pin connector and is designed to work with select marine head units. Is the 8 pin connector something that would work with some of the "car" audio? I have a KDC-X597 remotely located in a dry area of my boat. Trying to figure out if this will work with that unit.

Yes and has a nice foam gasket behind it.
[ Fast25  Dec 19, 2013 ]
It is at lease water resistant. My installation was in a car but it sure looks to be waterproof.
[ ROGER  Dec 19, 2013 ]
I purchased this unit and plan on installing in the spring. I opened the box and examined the unit, it appears to be waterproof and well made. My install location is on the helm of an express boat and not subject to the elements. Hope this helps you.
