About the Kenwood Excelon XR-1800P

Big, big woofers

Kenwood's Excelon XR-1800P component speaker system features a huge 7" woofer, packed into a frame that will still fit into the factory openings of many Dodge, GM, and Toyota vehicles (some cars may require slight modifications). A bigger cone moves more air, so your music can have the fullness and punch you don't hear with most factory speakers. The woofer's advanced hybrid pulp cone stays rigid through heavy workouts to cut down on distortion and keep your bass sounding tight. The rubber surround resists weathering, providing reliable support that keeps your music playing, no matter what.

Huge tweeters

Separate 1-3/16" soft dome tweeters deliver all the high-frequency details smoothly, while external crossovers and powerful, lightweight magnets make these tweeters extremely accurate without sounding harsh. The bruisers handle up to 110 watts RMS, so you'll be impressed when you fire them up with a nice amp. Kenwood includes multi-purpose adapter brackets that help the woofers fit in select vehicles.  Grilles are included.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

I had the JL Audio C1 which were great I never thought it could get better than that. I purchased these, and let's just say when I tested them out I didn't realize that the passenger speaker wire came out of my amp and were not powered, and I still loved them. Once I realized that it was one speaker working, I plugged in the wire and WOW amazing. The bass is amazing, the tweeters are so clear. All I run is these speakers and a sound ordinance amp and this system is wild. It sounds better then subs in my opinion, and less wires!

Great job Kenwood! They pair perfectly with the Excelon series amps to run at a 3ohm load. Running bi-amped as suggested by a Kenwood rep to efficiently use every bit of power available. Nice crisp highs with solid mid bass.

I just recently installed 4 XR 1080P. I set in the front door and the other set on the rear deck in a 2010 camaro and these speakers are amazing. They really sing! I have them on XR 900.5 keenwood amp and let me tell you they get down. I have a sub with my setup. But they are really really really good.

Pros: Very good mid bass Crisp sound Nice highs

Cons: With the adapter to fit most sizes offers by cars I can't think of any CONS

Best components for $300 or less

Probably the best 6.5 - 7 inch component speaker for $300 or less. Very crisp and clear even at high volumes. Mid bass is very good and fills in those missing frequencies.

Pros: High end speakers for mid-range price. very good mids and highs

Cons: 7" speaker doesn't fit many applications/rear doors.

The best one. Better get this. Pricey but you get sound for that price. You might need to have another amp for the speakers if you wanna get most out of it.

Pros: Just like the way it is. Bigger the better.

Cons: Cant think of anything

I got this car for free but lot of work needed to be done. I came here looking for speakers because if anything it was going to sound good. I looked around and came across thes after a little fab work i got then in the front doors with the tweeters on the piller they sound so clear and loud even with then just running off the radio these are the first pair of speakers that i have had that when there turned to 10 there isnt any distortion. I have had these speakers in for right at 2 years and havent had one problem.

Pros: Sound great

Cons: They seem pricey but like they say you get what you pay for.

I was looking to upgrade my 2 front door speakers they lacked bass And clarity , was recommended to get these. Overall a great speaker. my car calls for 6.5 inch speaker but made it work with the 7 inch. havent even hooked up the amp and it already sounds 50x better. i will be using kenwood xr400-4. small and sleek. very pleased!!

Pros: great bass clear highs and mids

Cons: a little pricey but worth the money

These speakers rock. Although in order to get them going I had an external amp put in and a new stereo. The instructions that crutchfield provided only helped a little when I tried installing them myself.

Pros: Excellent bass (shakes my rear view mirror), very clear audio

Cons: Instructions didn't help and you need an amp to pump up the power to them.

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
Should be an awesome upgrade over the stock Bose speakers in my 2017 GMC Sierra. The stock Bose speakers are disappointing. [ David  Oct 06, 2018 ]
A
I went to a local shop and compared speakers...the next best sounding speakers were $600. These were highly recommended for bass and clarity at high volumes. [ Richard  Sep 19, 2018 ]

Q
Has anyone installed these in the rear door of a 2017 Toyota Tacoma double cab? If so, did you have to modify anything?
[ Luke  Mar 05, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
The 7" woofers are not a recommended fit in the rear doors of the 2017 Tacoma doublecab. The available cutout diameter is not large enough for the 7" component. You can view all of the models we recommend to fit each location by using the "Find What Fits" application on the main Crutchfield website https://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx?lp=%2fCar%2foutfitmycar%2fmycar.aspx

Q
Can these be crossed over with a hpf @ 63 Hz since lowest their response is 53hz or is it best to stick to a higher 80hz crossover? Running off a Rockford 600a4 (75RMS) tuned with a Dd-1, crossover set on a Pioneer 4200nex

The high-pass filter setting for the Kenwood XR-1800P speakers can vary on the other components in your system, as well as your own personal listening preferences--for a more personalized recommendation to suit your system & preferences, I would suggest contacting an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. They can help determine the best HPF setting for you in more detail there. Thanks! :)

Q
Do I need an amp to power these speakers? I am looking to put these in the front doors in a 2010 Tundra with a Kenwood DNX571HD.
[ JEREMIAH S  Apr 06, 2017 ]

A
The Kenwood Excelon XR-1800P component speakers would perform best with an external amplifier driving them. For help selecting an appropriate amplifier, feel free to reach out to an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat.

Q
I have a 2001 MR2 Spyder with a stock sound system. I was hoping to replace the stock door speakers with these but got a "Does not fit" warning. Can you tell me which part of this speaker system does not fit? If it's the tweeters, I can cut a larger hole for them. If it's the drivers then I'll have to look for something else. Thanks.

For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle.
