Works as expected. I mean ... its a radio antenna adapter. It either works or it doesn't. Adapter plugs up correctly to factory plug, fits snugly inside of aftermarket antenna dongle.

Pros: Works correctly, Radio receives broadcast clear and strong.

Cons: Had to extend the blue power wire a little bit, factory antenna is on the left side of the dash on Mazda 6 and the antenna dongle on my Kenwood 7705S is on the right side, but the harness plug is on the left of the head unit.

Everything seems to be working ok except the radio. After going through the reviews for this adapter, I've found out that the blue so called power antenna wire should be connected to the red switched power wire. I soldered and used heat shrink tubing plus taped over the wires. No where in the instructions does it explain this. I would like to repeat what has already been said put a note in with the adapter (connect blue wire with red wire). Any ideas on an easy way for me to do this?

Pros: I'll let you know when it's working.

Cons: Needs better instructions

Crutchfield response on 2/5/2018
Sorry for the wiring issues, Jim. One of our Tech Support gurus, AJ, reached out to Jim and let him know that normally the blue/white wire connection on Jim's car stereo needs to be connected to the adapter's corresponding blue wire for his vehicle to activate this antenna's amplifier for better reception. If a blue wire isn't available depending on the vehicle, the red 12-volt switched/accessory wire can be used, although it's not the first choice. Instructions were included with Jim's original invoice email, and AJ resent them when he spoke with Jim.

Honda Antenna Adapter

Crutchfield customer from Manchester Township, NJ on 6/20/2017

2010 Honda Fit Sport

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Honda FIt 2010 Sport, new Pioneer head unit. Installed the head unit OK, but nothing in the instructions on what to do with the blue wire on this antenna adapter. It says power antenna on the wire, but I don't have a power antenna so left it hanging. Very poor radio reception. Drove around for two weeks like that, today took the unit back out, thinking maybe the blue wire on the adapter has to be connected to the blue wire on the unit, even though no power antenna. That didn't work either. Searched the net and found that the blue wire has to be connected to the red 12V switched wire for the antenna to work. I did that and it works great. I saw here that a lot of people have this problem, some of the dates are from several years ago. Why Crutchfield can't put a note in with the instructions I don't understand. Other than that, everything was OK.

Pros:

Cons:

Crutchfield response on 6/26/2017
We're sorry for the troubles in connecting the antenna adapter. Powered antenna doesn't always mean a motorized antenna. It often means an amplified antenna, and when connecting an antenna adapter for a new car stereo, the blue wire on the antenna adapter has to be connected to the power antenna wire on the new car stereo. It's usually the blue wire. Radio reception can suffer otherwise, as it did in this case. Our head Vehicle Integration honcho, Darren, is making sure we update that info for these adapters on our web site presentation.

Easy antenna adapter, I will save you the search, plug goes into head unit, grey plug gets connected to vehicle plug, On the wiring harness, one red wire gets spliced to the other red wire and the blue wire attached to the antenna adapter you also splice together with the red wire, NOT the blue wire with the tag attached to it!! This is the correct installation and you will get perfect radio reception.

Pros: Easy adapter, works

Had to search Crutchfield database to determine how to connect the blue wire attached to the harness. Unfortunately, this was after I had completed the stereo installation. Was difficult to splice the wire at that point.

Pros: Once the blue wire was attached correctly, radio reception was great

Cons: Wish there had been instructions with the unit that described how to attach the blue wire to the radio harness.

Works if installed correctly, Blue wire to switched 12v

Stuart from glasgow, KY on 1/19/2016

2007 Honda Pilot

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This is the first time I found CF's instructions to be incorrect, at least for my 07 Honda Pilot. The Blue wire has to be connected to the same switched 12v *usually red* in the harness, and the plug into the factory plug-in. If connected as they requested to the power antenna the radio reception will be horrible.

Pros: Works fine Good reception Picks up digital info

Cons: Wires into 12v in my case, a step I've never seen.

Once I figured out that on my vehicle (Honda Ridgeline) the blue wire needs 12v power all was well. Instructions had me wire it to the remote wire and did not supply my antenna's booster with enough power. Wiring it this way in my truck gave me no reception at all. Fortunately, someone in a forum somewhere steered me in the right direction.

This is an absolute must for first generation Ridgelines, but be sure to connect the blue wire to a 12v line from your head unit or the vehicle. One of the reasons I'm glad I ordered from Crutchfield, and will always order from them when I need something like this, is because they sent this and a few other things I didn't know I needed absolutely free. This went in without any issues whatsoever, and works flawlessly.

This product works great, but I wasn't sure initially what to do with the blue wire. Install was on a 2013 Honda Fit Sport and the blue wire needs to be connected in order to power the antenna. Made the mistake of not connecting it which means that AM stations will not come in and FM are noisy and hit or miss. Just a suggestion that Crutchfield should point that out in the instructions.

Pros: Works. Make sure to find out if your install requires the blue wire.

Cons: Crutchfield needs to highlight that the blue wire may be needed. I did not see that in the instructions.

Not a whole lot to say, other than it worked well for me. Fits the 2012 Honda Insight. As others have said and I found out, connect the blue wire to the remote wire in your wiring harness. The Honda Insight doesn't have a power antenna per se, but my understanding is the blue wire powers a mini-amp at the base of the antenna that improves the reception of certain stations/frequencies.

Mine came sans directions. A quick tech-support call uncovered the purpose of the blue wire; it's to power an antenna amp, which Honda uses to supplement the signal from the glass-embedded antenna. Once the antenna blue wire is soldered to the (Kenwood) radio blue/white switched-power wire, signal strength was restored to what might be expected.

Pros: works

Cons: no directions, especially for the blue wire, which powers an antenna amp

Finally managed to find it in the box. The instructions were poor. I had to call Crutchfield to find out what to do with the blue wire and was told a lot of people call about it, because you must connect it to the blue-white wire of the harness, or you don't get any radio reception. A simple instruction update would solve the matter, because as I was told by tech support, a lot of people disgregard the wire, then have to tear out the install and connect it, after they call tech support and complain of poor radio reception.

Pros: Worked fine when hooked up correctly.

Cons: Instructions need to be updated and clarified.

OK Crutchfield, I've found your build sheet instuctions helpful in the past but you guys dropped the ball on this one. I used this adapter to install a HU on an 08 Civic and got no AM reception and poor FM reception. Turns out the blue wire is not a power antenna lead but an antenna amplifier lead. Honda's antenna amp is not passive so it lets almost no signal through if it is not powered. With ZERO instuctions on what to do with this blue wire I left it unhooked and was so unhappy with my radio reception I was ready to return it. From looking at the reviews here, this is a common problem. With the blue wire hooked to the power antenna lead from the HU my radio sounds great and I am happy with it.

Pros: It does what it is supposed to do when its hooked up right.

Cons: Zero instructions on the blue wire that MUST be used with cars with an antenna amplifier. Nothing in the build sheet told me I had an antenna amplifier.

It works. There was an extra wire hanging off of it that wasn't really explained in the directions, but I figured it was probably for a power antenna. I do have to say the FM reception on the clarion unit I used this with is much worse than the factory unit it replaced, but I can't say whether it's the fact it's using this adapter or if it's the unit itself.

As many other reviewers have stated, watch out for the blue cable; it attaches to the "Power Ant" of the aftermarket head unit. The blue cable sends a booster signal for the antenna, so without it you'd get extremely poor reception--especially from the HD radio stations. Other than that, the adapter is a no brainner to install. The only reason I'm giving this product 4 stars (as opposed to 5) is because of the no instructions that the product came with--even the own manufacturer's website neglects to divulge that kind of (crucial) information! Had not been for previous reviewers on this website, I would have installed the antenna improperly (i.e., the blue cable).

Another blue wire review

Nice quality antenna. Leave it to Honda to try and come up with a "better idea" for an antenna connection. Instructions could be clearer when it comes to hooking the harness to the factory harness. The blue wire clearly states power antenna lead. No power antenna, no need to connect....right? But on SUVs with a bulit in antenna amplifier in the rear of the vehicle (like a Honda Pilot or Subaru Outback), this blue wire is what turns on the antenna amplifier. Do you know if your vehicle has a rear antenna amplifier...I did not because it is not listed on the Master Sheet for my Pilot. When I had it intially hooked up, radio reception was horrible. I was ready to send it back. Called Customer Service and the first question they asked was about the blue wire being connected. I had to take the dashboard apart again to hook up the blue wires....kind of a pain. If you know this in advance....it would be nice to have it clearly labeled.

Not having installed a stereo in some years I was surprised that this came along with a head unit. It would have been a real pain to realize that I would need this after starting the installation process. Crutchfield is awesome in anticipating what the customer needs and bundling it all for a painless experience.

No instructions come with this piece, so just know that you'll be connecting the blue power antenna cable to the wireharness of the head unit power antenna connection - otherwise your reception will probably suffer. easy to connect and works well.

Blue wire on antenna lead

I had poor reception on the radio. The antenna lead did not tell you it had to be hooked the the blue radio lead. I had to call back to Crutchfield and speak to a "specialist". He than looked it up and said that it was to be hooked up to the blue lead on the radio. I had to again remove the unit to hook it up. I hate doing things twice. There should be something on the package telling you that it needs to be hooked up. After looking at the reviews of this antenna connector there are more reviews just like mine, this should tell you something. Other than this one problem there was no other issues installing the unit.

The blue wire connects to the "power antenna" lead from the headunit or a switched 12v source to provide power to the amplified antenna. You'll get poor reception is you just "taped it off"
