Metra 70-1721 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and this also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Features

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required and sold separately.

This harness is probably intended to bypass a factory amp. What is the exact year, make and model of the vehicle? I can check our research file and tell you exactly what you'll need.

Q
2002 honda accord ex radio am fm cassette built-in 6 cd changer anti theft volume and station steering wheel controls existing connector is 20 pin with 15 pins occupied . Most of these connectors are 20 pins with only 12 pins occupied. How does this harness work without modifications?... I don't see how they can.

Thanks for your question. This is the correct harness in all 2002 Honda Accord Models. There is a separate harness that retains steering wheel controls and is wired in conjunction with this harness. If you have further questions you can check http://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx and see the options, or contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on how everything connects and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle.

Q
My civic has the anti theft system built into its stock CD player/stereo. I was told I needed a Y harness so that I could keep the anti theft working. Is this correct? Or will this harness work as well?
[ Taylor  May 22, 2014 ]

A
you do need the y harness . you have to keep the old radio in the car. sometime you can put it low under the dash all the way forward of the center console. Had a 98 civic and had to do the same thing.

The hardness provided by Crutchfield works just find. No problem on my Accord.
[ SALOMON  May 23, 2014 ]
Q
Is this meant for the OEM harness to plug in to the harness side of this plug, and then the color wires need to get connected to the plug that comes with the new stereo? How difficult is this to do if that is the case. Do you simply use wire nuts to keep them together?
[ Randall  Dec 26, 2013 ]

A
Wiring harnesses are indeed meant to plug into your factory wiring. then you would connect those to the harness that comes off your head unit. wire nuts are typically too large to fit behind a deck, especially a bunch. they have barrel crimpers you can use though. You can prob get them here at Crutchfield or local store or something like that.
[ ERIC T  Dec 28, 2013 ]
A
The Crutchfield Wiring harness does plug right into the OEM connector. However, matching the wiring may take some close attention depending on the complexity of the OEM receiver you are replacing. I would also suggest to solder the wiring connections and a heat shrink protector or some other mechanical means of connecting the wires as wire nuts may loosen after sometime.
[ DENNIS K  Dec 27, 2013 ]
A
This is correct. You can solder or use wire nuts. I have used wire nuts on all of the ones that I have done and haven't had a problem. Go for it.
[ Nick Chambers  Dec 27, 2013 ]
A
Yes you connect this harness to the OEM harness and then splice, soder, crimp or twist and apply electric tape (whatever accommodates you) together by matching the colors and it should come with a pamphlet stating what each color represents. From a scale 1-10 of difficulty it is like a 2; If u have any trouble u can Youtube it.
