Metra 70-2105 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-2105 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

There's nothing wrong with the harness. The issue is the supplied power cable. For the vibe, you're supposed to run it to the fuse box under the steering column, easy peasy. The thing is that the little probe on the end that you're supposed to insert into the fuse is too big and not designed to fit into a 10.5 fuse. I solved the problem by snipping the copper probe with cutters until it was small enough. Other than that, the wires on the harness were well labeled and easy to understand. One last note. This was my first time ever replacing a stereo. It took me 4-5 hours. I am very handy and have been working on cars as long as I can remember, If you're, pay for the ready harness and save yourself a headache.

Pros: Everything

Cons: Power supplied cable

Bought three different wiring harnesses that didn't work from three different places. Got the one you suggested for my car and finally my stereo worked! The other harnesses didn't have the blue wire with the black stripe that I needed. From now on I'll start with Crutchfield and be done.

Pros: Easy to install Actually works

Metra 70-2105 Wire Harness

Crutchfield customer from Wilmington, MA on 1/2/2018

2009 Pontiac Vibe

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This "Ready Harness" makes the installation a lot easier. Most of the connections are made, however, there is one connection that is not made. There is a red wire that you are instructed to connect to a connection in the car's fuse box. On my car the fuse box is in the engine compartment. It would have been difficult for me at my skill level to run a wire through the firewall, etc. I called support (Tom was very helpful) and they verbally explained to me how to connect this wire to one of the wires in the car's wiring harness. It is a wire that is connected to the original receiver via the manufacturer's connection to the radio, and is the main power supply to the receiver (accessory 12 volt wire). However the 70-2105 "Ready Harness" purchased from Crutchfield does not have a pin in its connector that corresponds to the wire on the car's harness. I had to splice the "Ready Harness" red wire to the "accessory 12 volt wire" on the car's harness. It would have been easier if Crutchfield put a pin on their connector to allow direct connection of their connector to the corresponding pin of the car's connector. This may be difficult to understand by this explanation, but I'm sure a Crutchfield employee will understand that for a 2009 Pontiac Vib, pin 27 of the manufacturers connector has no pin in the corresponding connector of the Crutchfield "Ready Harness". Having said all that, the receiver works just fine and I'm sure in the long run I will be happy with

Great adapter, but wrong fuse tap provided.

Wan from Wantagh, NY on 6/28/2017

2009 Pontiac Vibe

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I have always used the Metra wiring harness when available for my specific project car. However, this particular kit provides a separate ACC wiring cable to be connected to fuse box or other ACC wire. The mfd instructions and lack of Crutchfield specific instructions made for a confusing job, and difficult for the average buyer. No suggestions to how to connect or where to connect to was provided. No testing instructions to find one either. AND the most important problem, the fuse tap provided was for a mini fuse, where as the fuses used in the project car, 2009 Pontiac Vibe (Toyota Matrix), uses Low Profile mini fuses. So the cheap tap did not fit and broke when trying to jam it in. I had to go buy a separate "add a circuit" fuse tap for the LP mini fuse box. How would an average Joe or Jane know this? Oh, when I tried to call Crutchfield tech support, it said all circuits are busy and hung up on me....I'm a long time (decades) customer, this has been the worse experience.

Pros: Makes splicing wires simple and provides a factory feel.

Cons: Don't rely on the accuracy of the separate ACC cable.

Crutchfield response on 7/3/2017
Once we saw this review, our Tech Support team reached out to Wan to issue an apology and help him further. We'll either help him get the receiver installed correctly, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.

The wiring was PERFECT! I did choose to move the power wire on my original harness because my Pontiac Vibe is technically a Toyota and not a GM, but they do supply an easier alternative (long power wire that fits into the fuse compartment).

Pros: Easy installation. Clear instructions.

Cons: None.

Requires running accessory power on most vehicles

2009 Pontiac Vibe

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

It's high quality and it works... but on a 2009 Vibe it required me to run a separate red wire for switched power. That meant plugging into a tiny fuse box underneath the steering column. What should have taken just a few minutes, took over an hour.

Wire harnessed helped make installation easier except for missing power wires

Pros: Makes removing stereo easier than if all the wires were hard wired/

Cons: Missing power wires (power all time) and (power with key) had to splice separate wires for both power supplies. Would be nice if there were a couple extra wires in the Metra connector. Separate power wire wasn't necessary , it was already in the factory harness

Red wire challenges

DanK from Minnesota on 6/14/2015

2009 Pontiac Vibe

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The wiring harness works great. I knew when I bought it that the instructions require wiring the red wire to a different 12 volt source on the '09 Vibe. I wish I knew why. I would like to meet the person who can slide their head under the dash and slide a flimsy piece of copper into the side of the low profile mini fuse. Fortunately I found a fuse tap online that plugs into the accessory fuse and holds that fuse along with a new fuse for the radio. It would saved me a couple of hours of frustration had Crutchfield offered this accessory with clear instructions to plug it into the accessory fuse slot.

Pros: It's great to be able to solder and tape the wires together then just plug in the harness when installing the stereo.

Cons: Instructions for running the red wire to a 12 volt source could be easily improved.

This harness was great except for one wire. There are only 2 cars this harness work well with all of the others it requires you to run a wire to your fuse box or splice into another wire. A better alternative should be used or more instructions and better parts should be included for this.

Pros: Almost everything matchstick perfectly

Cons: One wire is a pain to run and not enough instruction is included

Receiver works great for the value. I needed a pretty basic receiver to replace my wife's car stereo. This certainly fit the bill and we're not disappointed. Has all the functions needed and an easy user interface.

Pros: Great value, solid performance

Plain harness. It doesn't allow you to interface for the steering wheel adapter, and requires a separate wire to connect to power. This not what I expect from a Crutchfield supplied harness. It could have power built in.

Pros: Limited functionality

Cons: Many

Perfect for what I needed , I went looking for same harness at the local big box store in Port Charlotte FL , and the sales man told me i needed a $150 harness or I would never get the radio to work , I told him that he must be wrong and thats outrageous but he insisted , needless to say , He was wrong.

Pros: Fits perfect , match wire for wire.

Cons: Non , The only con with this CAR is that you have to pull your own acc. wire from fuse box but thats the cars wiring not the conversion harness. The harness even comes with the acc. wire needed.

This wiring harness made installation super easy. I installed the Deck and four speakers in just about 2 hours start to finish. The hardest part was removing dash and door pieces carefully as not to break anything.

Pros: Perfect fit, easy because of color coding matched car.

Cons: Wire ends aren't stripped, so you have to strip them back yourself.

I installed this unit into my wife's Chevy Aveo. It replaced the factory CD receiver and greatly improved the sound quality with the OEM speakers. The Pro EQ feature offers the flexibility to tweak the sound to your preference( especially handy when dealing with original speakers). Just added a 400 watt 2 channel amplifier (also a JVC product) for driving an Alpine type E 12" subwoofer. I am 100% satisfied with this product! Its relatively easy to use, comes with a remote and offers plenty of functions to customize your vehicle's sound system.

Pros: Price, sound quality, features and remote

Cons: none for this price range

Exactly what was needed for 2011 Chevy Aveo. Easy install, just match the colors and connect! Hardest part was taking dash apart. Power wire not compatible with certain models. But separate power wire comes with harness.

Pros: Easy install. Very simple to follow colors of wires.

Cons: Separate power wire (comes with kit). You must connect to audio fuse in fuse block to get power, but spade needs to be filed down to fit into wire connector. Easy to do though.
