Almost everything you need for a 2007 Ford Escape with OEM amplifier.
Crutchfield customer from Webberville, MI on 11/26/2019
2007 Ford Escape
Great kit for installing a radio in my sons 2007 ford Escape with the OEM amplifier. Well documented and great quality construction. I ended up soldering and shrink-tubing all the connections for a robust solid install. Note: If you still have the OEM amplifier, you will also need an Axxess AFDI-5V adapter for the amplifier.
Pros: Great quality construction, great documentation.
Cons: It would be nice if 16 1" long pieces of shrink-tube were included, it would make other peoples installations more robust and much cleaner.

Works perfectly with the Axxess AFDI-5V 12-volt to 5-volt converter. I was a little confused at the wiring of the smaller amp plug with the step down converter because the connector had 2 blue with white stripe wires in it. The 24 pin connector has 1 blue with white stripe wire in it as well. After a call to crutchfield they told me to connect both the blue and white wires of the smaller connector to the blue with red stripe wire of the step down converter and then connect the blue with white strip of the step down converter, the blue with white stripe of the 24 pin connector and the blue with white stripe amp turn on wire from the stereo together. Following those instructions everything works and there is no thump when I turn the radio on. Thanks again to Crutchfied's awesome tech support! I just bought this car and there was an aftermarket stereo in it already. It did not have one of the step down converters and it did thump whenever you turned the car on so I know that thing it doing something and would highly recommend that accessory for this setup.

Chris from Jacksonville, FL on 2/15/2019

I thought I had a problem with the wiring adaptor for the subwoofer connection, turns out I had connected the wrong blue/white wire, which turns the amps on, to the unit harness. Since there are two blue/white wires pay attention to which row the wires are in on the factory plug and splice the one that will align with those. Don't worry with the configuration of the RCA plug wires, they only use one anyway. It looks like some are on the row without wires on the factory plug but it works, just trust it.
Pros: Perfect fit, no need to cut factory wiring and sort through it.
Cons: None

Incomplete
David from Snohomish, WA on 9/28/2018
2007 Lincoln Mark LT
I have a 2007 Mark LT which is a Lincolnized F150 Supercrew with the factory sub. On the main connector, The steering wheel controls are pins 18 and 19, reverse is pin 6, Vehicle Speed Sensor is pin 14, all these are missing. This connector seems geared to a bare bones 2004 F150 with no options. The completely omitted medium size connector on your factory radio that you wonder why it is not in this kit, is for a separate DVD player and back seat entertainment that takes over only the rear speakers when in use but it also contains the input wires from the 1/8" aux jack on the Dashboard Tray. If it's there and can be used, it should be hooked up, this kit will not allow a clean way to do this due to that connector being completely omitted. The only way to make this complete is to by two, take some of the pinned wires out of one and add them. There is no reason to splice into vehicle wiring for reverse, VSS, and steering wheel controls. The only things that need splicing are the emergency brake and if you are able to make use of it, the + and - CAN BUS wires. Hint: The C220A connector to the instrument cluster (Upper Left) contains all three of these and is easy to get to and not far from the head unit. Parking brake is pin 24, pin 31 is CAN BUS + and pin 32 is CAN BUS -, now if iDatalink would work with us on this, I have contacted them. I gave it three stars because it will at least get you on the road with a usable but inconvenient installation with no steering wheel control
Pros: Something to at least get an aftermarket head unit working at the bare minimum.
Cons: Missing several pins that are needed for complete installation.

Works great for my 2006 Ford Mustang! I only found a couple very minor drawbacks. First, even with the illumination wire properly connected, I am still unable to automatically control the dimmer function for my JVC KW-R930BTS stereo when the headlights are turned on. Second, I don't think my car's vehicle speed sensitive volume control works with an aftermarket stereo (I don't use that function anyway). However, I am strongly convinced that both of these drawbacks are caused by an extra factory plug-in that is not used for my application. Even still, this Metra wiring harness deserves a 5-star rating!

Devin from Park Rapids, MN on 6/5/2018
2004 Ford F-150
The connections to the stock harness were good and tight and I haven't had any trouble with interference due to a bad connection/pin. My biggest complaint is that it doesn't come with wires for the steering wheel remote buttons or even pins to add those wires in, yourself, yet it comes with other wires that not all vehicles will have/use. For the wires that were there, I wanted it to look as professional as possible, so I went the more tedious route of soldering the wires between this harness and the radio's harness, then covered them with heat-activated shrink-wrap, and I must say, it looks WAY better than the crimp/wire nut option I see a lot of others using. It also takes up considerably less space in the dash. The only way to improve on this is to directly connect the receiver's wires to the pins in the harness clip/cover (though I'd worry about wrecking a pin or the plastic housing doing this). I did have a small discrepancy between the provided guide and my radio's manual, but did find that the power antenna/amp wire does, in fact, connect to the "rem out 0.4" cable on the Sony XAV-AX100, in order to turn on the stock premium sound system's sub-woofer.
Pros: Simple to use and a good guide from Crutchfield for wire descriptions. Strong connection with no interference from loose pins.
Cons: Missing additional wires/pins for hooking up other features, such as steering wheel volume controls.

I was very impressed with the plugs, I don't know if it was dumb luck or not but the wire colors for the radio and the car harness were even the same (after compared to the prints) This is so much cleaner and easier than hacking into the car harness. Works as intended
Scott from Dallas, TX on 12/21/2016
Worked as intended installing a new receiver on a 2004 Ford Mustang Cobra with the Mach 460 stereo. Wiring colors on the harness matched the Pioneer AVH-4200NEX harness. 1 Additional Metra harness and a 12 to 5V converter were required and supplied separately by Crutchfield. The instructions were well written and straight forward to mate all the harnesses

Luv these harnesses!! Makes installing so easy! Make all the connections from the comfort of your kitchen, and then go to the cold car to install. Must have the correct wiring diagrams however to be successful. The product wiring diagram was sufficient and concise. Matching it to the Sony's wiring diagram was pretty easy as well. It all seems to work.
Pros: easy instructions with color coded accurate wiring descriptions.

Lack of wires needed for steering wheel controls
Ryan from Ellendale, ND on 10/20/2016
2003 Lincoln Town Car
The only reason I bought this product was because I was hoping I wouldn't have to strip any wires and tear into the original harness but when I went to install the steering wheel controls on my 2003 Lincoln Town Car I realized that some of the wires needed to install the harness were not carried over from the original to this one so I still will have to into the original harness. This product did make installing quicker I only wish it would have carried over all the wires. If people don't have steering wheel controls they can just cap them off then.
Pros: Worked great Made installation quicker
Cons: Lacked certain wires

Metra 70-5521 Receiver Wiring Harness
Brian from Ft Worth, TX on 7/3/2016
2008 Ford F-150
The wiring harness made integration with the factory harness a breeze. This harness must be connected properly to the aftermarket unit you purchase. The wiring is pretty straightforward, as long as you carefully examine the diagrams provided for the harness and the proper diagram used in the aftermarket unit. I used red crimp butt splice connectors for my installation. The wire gauge of the harness was thicker than he wire gauge used on the aftermarket unit.
Pros: -clear instructions for the harness
Cons: -would be nice if the harness could be better matched to the aftermarket unit. There was some risk of wiring the harness incorrectly.

Pros: Easy to hook up. I required an additional product to hook this up that got a little tricky but the Crutchfield tech support guy made it easy.
Cons: I bought a JVC receiver along with this product that is supposed to be in tune with the headlights for brightness but it doesn't work... as a matter of fact it doesn't light up at all when radio is off. The orange orange/white wire is suppose to control the lighting and dimmer which is hooked up but doesn't work.

Adrian from Mission Viejo, CA on 10/5/2014
2007 Ford Mustang
This worked in my 2007 Mustang with Shaker 500. It was a bit difficult to get all the connections right. I would definitely recommend getting the crimp caps from Crutchfield because I couldn't find them anywhere; not even radio shack. Although I ended up using 18-22 gauge butt caps. You'll want a good crimp tool as well.
Pros: Worked for my stereo
Cons: The harness had an extra wire that wasn't on the instructions. I called and customer service/ tech support was very helpful. I ended up taping the extra wire off. Also if you get the voltage converter it's a bit weird to set up. The instructions are accurate and I got it right but had to call customer service again because it just didn't seem right but it was.

I didn't have have to splice anything into the stock amps so that was awesome. I was a little confused because I had a 3rd connector that didn't seem to plug in to anything that originally plugged into my stock stereo, but the Crutchfield rep verified that I didn't need to plug it into anything. Seems to work okay.
Pros: Easy to install.
Cons: Crutchfield claims this and other items are "free" with order, but they're really not free. They inflate the price if the stereos to cover the cost of these "free" items and their "free" shipping. Nothing is free. You're still paying for this.

Clear directions made it easy to match up the wires from the radio to those of the harness. I chose to solder and cover with heat shrink tubing. I was glad to have shortened the wires prior to assembly because there would not have been enough space in my Ford Explorer to have wires of the original length.
Pros: Easy directions. Fit the car's harness perfectly.
Cons: None.

Great harness
John W from Massapequa Park, NY on 5/4/2013

This harness enabled me to make all of my speaker and other wiring connections on my dining room table before disassembling my dashboard. Once the old unit was removed this harness just plugged right in and worked almost perfectly. I say almost because the only stock feature that does not work for some reason is the dimmer control. But since I installed a DVD player with a full glass touch screen I don't really see this as a problem for me.
Pros: makes wiring the new head unit a simple task as long as you stay neat and organized while making connections.
Cons: No dimmer control.

The wire harness that was included from Crutchfield was great. It was easy to follow with the color coordinated wires. They even sent me the extra cable for the factory sub! Make sure to double check all connections before sliding the unit back in the dash. Otherwise, easy.

Cons: Limited instructions, especially for the sub. If you have never put in a stereo, get some help.

Plug-and-Play is the Word, 2005 Mustang Convert Shaker 500
RandyD from Arlington, TX on 3/26/2013
2005 Ford Mustang
Make sure you have plenty of wire-to-wire connectors, a good crimping tool, and you're good to go. To connect the wire harnesses to the radio, color goes to color. It's that simple. Then, it's plug into the empty car harness. If I remember correctly you'll end up with an empty plug on the car harness that accommodates things such as speed sensitive sound increase/reduce and dim control to the HU display. You'll probably lose both of these functions with a new HU.
Pros: Easy to connect, and, if you have a question, Crutchfield is just a quick phone call away.
Cons: Note sure if it's even possible, but the new harness does not support speed sensitive sound or display dim to the new HU.

Doesn't work in the 2004 Town Car Ultimate
cdb from Jacksonville, FL on 6/23/2012
2004 Lincoln Town Car
Although the speaker harness does work , the Subwoofer out connecter is not compatible. Unfortunately spend $64.00 including Saturday Delivery. The problem with the RCA conncecter is that there are wires in the connector that connect to nothing on the car side. Pins 1,2,3,4 are populated on the vehical side. Pins 5, 6, 7, 8 are empty. On the aftermarked harness, pins 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 are all populated. Had to buy another amp and subwoofer just to recieve bass.
Pros: Half of the harness works
Cons: The other half doesn't

This wire harness provided a simple plug and play solution for installing a Clarion CX501 into a 2007 F-150. It requires some technical skills and soldering. The only issue was having to install a voltage reducer into the subwoofer power feed after the new radio caused the factory subwoofer to pop loudly when the radio come on.

Just one thing...
JohnB from Allen TX on 3/1/2012
2006 Ford F-150
This is nearly a must for installing your stereo because it makes it so much simpler. I have a 2006 F150 King Ranch with sub, but found that I needed to do one additional thing. My Crutchfield advisor mentioned (thanks!) that I needed to add a linear regulator circuit (uA7805) to lower the voltage from my new Sony 770 Nav remote amp signal to my Ford sub amp remote enable. This circuit drops the Sonys 12V output to 5V, was not hard to do, but certainly added some complexity since I needed to build the circuit ( i did it myself since I'm a EE). This is just FYI. Do all the wiring on this cable before you start your installation and it will save lots of time. The Crutchfield tech guys are a big asset because they can look up specific wires from your vehicle and tell you where to tap into them.
Pros: Highly recommended - A real time saver and fits perfectly.
Cons: Two of the wires I needed on this connector were not populated. These were the steering wheel control wires and really should have been there. I just had to tap into these wires on the cars connector (before this one). Not a stopper, just more time consuming.

Metra 70-5521 Receiver Wiring Harness
Crutchfield customer from Stuttgart, Germany on 2/17/2012
2004 Ford Mustang
I'm an amateur when it comes to cars, but this harness made installing my radio very simple. I was able to easily follow the instructions and everything turned out great...until I turned the sound on. For some reason, the subwoofers won't turn on. I tried disconnecting the plugs, but there was no difference in the sound. Sadly, it makes my music sound hollow, and I'm almost tempted to put my factory radio back in. If it wasn't for that, I would have 5-stared it.
Pros: Super easy even for us n00bs.
Cons: Subwoofers didn't connect.

When I was doing the install, I realized that that the wire harness Crutchfield sent me wasnt the right one. So I called tech support and they told me they would sent me out the right one. Will Cause Amp Turn-On Pop with Mach 300 System
This harness does match up with the Mach 300 system in an 05 Ford Escape Limitied. However, the amp for the sub in the Mach 300 system receives a 6volt input on the remote wire, instead of the 12v remote voltage that this harness will give the amp. Everything will work fine, but you will receive a turn-on pop from the sub if you use this harness. The fix is to wire a 12v to 5v voltage regulator to this harness.

Ford wiring harness missing one wire
KeithM from Chandler, Arizona on 3/30/2011
2004 Ford Explorer
The harness worked great, with one exception. I was installing the Axxess aswc at the same time I installed my new JVC stereo. The aswc needed to be connected to pin 18 of the car stereo connector, but the supplied harness did not have a wire in pin 18. I had to cut into the car harness to make the connection. If they added a pin 18 wire, this would be a 5 star product!
