the unusual sizing of the speaker opening required a variable material to mount the new standard speakers into the opening. this has pre-scored speaker openings for different size speakers so getting the round size needed should be quite easy. fitting it to the unusual opening in my dashboard should be quite easy with a Dremel, jigsaw, bandsaw, or even a utility knife. Apparently to replace the rear speakers (4") in a 2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i Station Wagon, you have to make your own custom mounting bracket. That sucks but at least Crutchfield sells this panel to make that simpler. [ Matt  Jul 09, 2017 ]

I tried to make adapters to mount speakers in my 1993 Toyota Camry wagon hatch, but i don't have time for all that. I do have a jig saw, though, and a drill. And I've been to the hardware store and found screws that will fit. I just don't have the time and patience to make a template and cut out the adapters. I also just want to do as much of it myself since it is an old car. [ Alison  Apr 13, 2017 ]

Q
Can I use this to fill in a double din opening and then mount a smartphone or tablet to said piece of plastic?
[ Ruddiger  Aug 14, 2016 ]
1 answer
A
Have'nt done that particular application before, but I would be a bit hesitant that the weight of the phone might too much depending on the way you attach the plastic panel to the opening. The panel is not very thick and may over time crack or break from the weight of the phone.

How do I use this as a Speaker adapter mounting bracket?

I didn't end up using mine.
[ VICTOR M  Oct 22, 2014 ]

You need to cut out a piece that will fit around your speaker hole then trim a hole to mount speaker (will look like a donut) only issue is this material is pretty stiff and difficult to cut unless you some kind of power tool to trim Would be fairly difficult with heavy duty snips I ended up not using and just got other precut trim rings
[ WENDELL  Oct 22, 2014 ]
Q
I don't understand what this is for. I'm looking for an adapter bracket for my 6' speakers. and I'm comparing products. For this do I just cut a whole for the speaker lay it flat on the panel, and just drill screws through to stay secure to the panel?

A
This is essentially a blank piece of black textured plastic to fill an unwanted hole in your dash or elsewhere in the vehicle. You could in fact mount a speaker to this material as long as you attach it to your substrate sufficiently.
[ Joseph W.  Aug 16, 2016 ]
A
The panel is pre scored for the speaker and space size that you are using. Either you use the pres scored, of cut it to the desired space measurements
