Easy to assemble, doesn't add any noticeable bulk around the head unit I installed, only issue I had was I needed to bore out the lower positioning holes as there was some residual plastic from manufacturing and that had me a bit worried I would crack the plastic. Not very rugged but sturdy enough to mount a radio

had a missing part, and doesn't fit all 2DIN aftermarket head units
Crutchfield customer from Grand Rapids, MI on 9/9/2020
2004 Ford Mustang
The kit was recommended by the Crutchfield selector, to install an aftermarket unit in my son's Mustang. From a quality control standpoint, the package I received was missing the support for the rear of the head unit chassis. You can see it in the stock image, laying in front of the faceplate adapter. I would also add that this kit does not match up well with head units that have a double DIN face, but only a single DIN chassis, like the Sony XAV-AX1000. With a standard double DIN chassis, you would be able to add more screws, so it would be more rigid. With the Sony AX1000, you can really only add a couple screws, so the whole kit was quite flexible. When I first tried to install, it was apparent that this was going to be too flexible out of the box, especially without the chassis support bracket. I ended up salvaging the bracket off the OEM head unit, but it didn't mate well with the aftermarket head unit, so I had to fabricate some parts in my garage to make this kit work. After scavenging the bracket from the OEM unit, and fabricating some bracing to stiffen the assembly up, it works fine and will be durable.
Pros: Looks clean when finished, like it's supposed to be there
Cons: QC should have caught the missing part. Also, there should be some accommodation (or maybe a different kit?) for head units that have a double DIN face, and a single DIN chassis. Having to fabricate my own support bracketry was an unexpected time suck.

Used in a 2001 Mustang with a Sony XAV-AX1000, which is shallow as there is no CD player. There is no place to attach the rear support, which is required to keep the radio safely in place. I had to add an extra cross brace inside the bracket to attach the rear support.

The triangle shape support brace attaches to the back of the Jenson KW-X840BTS radio with a screw as shown in the instructions. However, that screw isn't included in the installation kit or with the radio. The radio I removed from my car had a brace but different design so it wasn't compatible. I called Crutchfield tech support, one technician told me the brace wasn't needed because the cage it attaches to is sufficient. After testing that theory found he was wrong. The brace keeps the radio from moving backwards when pushing buttons. Another technician told me what screw size their documentation said is needed but found out it was wrong. The correct size is stamped in the body on the back of the radio. Bottom line, be prepared to make a store run for the screw . Bring the brace to the store, because you made need washers too. The holes on the brace are large and the hardware store didn't have a pan head screw so I got a regular screw and added some washers.

When I ordered the wiring harness for the stereo I was going to install I didn't even know I needed this dash kit. Thank goodness Crutchfield did! It made the installation of my car stereo much easier. Such a time saver and it fits perfectly. I took my stereo out of our Kia Sorento that our insurance totaled and installed it into our new to us 2002 Ford Explorer. With this dash kit it fits perfectly in the dash and looks like it's always been there. It was inexpensive and easy to put on the deck. Fit in great.
Pros: Perfect fit, looks great.
Cons: The back piece is difficult to align with the bottom slide in the dash. This may be more the fault of the dash than the dash kit.

The faceplate part of the bracket fit great and would be worthy of a 5 star rating. However, the rear bracket had to be modified in order to properly hold the receiver. The mounting screw hole on the radio was located toward the top of the radio as opposed to the bottom of the radio.
Pros: Faceplate and side brackets fit accurately
Cons: Rear bracket not designed for a radio where the mounting hole is at the top of the (double din) radio.

Workaround needed to attach to stereo unit.
Ken from Cumming, GA on 1/14/2019
2005 Lincoln Aviator
This adapter kit if fine in itself but a problem that Crutchfield could easily solve. The screws that come with the Sony unit I bought that attach the stereo to the adapter on the sides are very short. So short that with the thickness of the plastic they must pass through to attach the stereo to the adapter they simply don't reach. When I called Crutchfield the tech knew immediately what the problem was as it is a common one and advised that I use a large drill bit to ream a bit of the plastic away so the screws would reach. That solution worked but left me wondering why, if this is a known problem, didn't Crutchfield just include some longer screws with this dash kit.
Pros: Simple assembly, stereo fit nicely into it and it fit nicely into the dash.
Cons: Needs to come with proper length screws that take into account the thickness of the plastic when attaching to stereo.

Great-fitting dash kit
Crutchfield customer from Boulder Creek, CA on 10/14/2018
2003 Lincoln Aviator
Fits very well on the body of the car and the body of the radio. The radio has a stud near the top (Kenwood DNX874S), so I had to make a standoff bracket for it. Also, the sliding rear bracket needs more clearance to allow for easy sliding on the track. I used the one from the original radio instead. The fit in the car allows for the Lincoln dash cover to be closed without clearance issues.

I used this on an Explorer 2002 XLT with a Kenwood Excelon DPX793BH. The bracket worked fine once I figured out how to install everything. There are 3 different installation instructions involved, 1- this kit, 2- the Kenwood and 3 - the Crutchfield. The Crutchfield wasn't very helpful. To install my receiver I had to remove the trim panel and sleeve that came with the unit. Only the Kenwood instructions included this information. I also had to supply my own screw for the rear support bracket. The screws that come with the radio did not fit.

This unit was not able to adapt my Kenwood DDX395 to my 2003 Mustang Cobra. I don't know if Metra is at fault for not adapting to the newer head units or the manufacturer's fault for not having a place to center mount the rear adapter. What I do know is that the Kenwood and JVC touch screen units, and most of the Pioneers, do not have a rear mounting location for this kit. Either way I thought Crutchfield would have figured this out before me. I ended up having to fabricate a piece in order for this stereo to fit securely in my dash. I would have returned it for another head unit but the few units that had a place to mount this kit were not even close to what I was looking for.

Nice final finish. This did not work straight out on my head unit purchased with this. The problem was my Kenwood DDX374BT has cooling fins where the back anchor was supposed to be mounted. However, I found a way to rig this (drilling and tapping a hole in the cooling fin).
Pros: Nice front finish
Cons: The back bracket did not work without doing some rigging. Cooling fins on the head unit instead of bolt holes as instructions suggested.

Kit that requires modification
Gonzalo from Rancho Cucamonga, CA on 10/3/2017
2004 Ford Explorer
This kit is for a 2004 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. The kit is unfortunately made of plastic that needs to be put together. The holes on the side panels did not lineup with the Blaupunkt San Jose 120 that I purchased from Crutchfield. I needed to take a drill bit to the holes and continue the pre made slots to accomodate the stereo holes. The rear support piece that comes with the kit is not tall enough to work with the Ford guide that holds and guides the stereo. I needed to cut a grove on the top portion of the support piece with a drill bit to be able to use it at all. I know the car is 13 years old, and there probably isn't much demand for the kit to work on this type of car, but if Crutchfield is going to sell it as a kit that is supposed to work with the stereo that you buy from them, the least they could do is find a kit that works with the vehicle.
Pros: needed to make stereo fit
Cons: poor design and major modifications needed to make it work

One of the best install kits I have had. Fitment, quality, and easy of parts to put together had my new head unit installed in little as 15 minutes. Nothing to modify or trim and despite the several adjustments this kit has, I just took measurements off the OEM brackets and applied to this kit and new head unit slid right in. This went into a 2001 Mustang GT and had zero issues with the trim panel interfering.
Pros: Perfect fit, not trimming, way to easy installation.

Clean and Professional Finished Product
Jesse from Weirton, WV on 2/26/2017
2002 Ford Mustang
The Metra 95-5026 Dash Kit is a bracket that attaches to your after-market stereo for easy installation. This kit worked perfectly to fill the gap between the after-market stereo and the factory opening in the dash, which made for a clean and professional finished product. I'm very pleased with the Metra 95-5026 Dash Kit and would recommend it to anyone installing an after-market stereo in their vehicle.
Pros: Perfect fit
Cons: Plastic bracket could be considered a little flimsy

Works as intended
Crutchfield customer from Dallas, TX on 12/21/2016
Worked in my double din AVH-4200NEX receiver into a 2004 Ford Mustang Cobra. The assembly is fairly straight forward, but the directions are garbage. The screw to attach the rear bracket was not included with the kit or the receiver, but luckily I had the right screw on hand from another project. The gaps on the side of the mounting plate and face of receiver aren't completely even.
Pros: Works as intended
Cons: Not super sturdy, rear mounting screw not included, side gaps not completely even, bad directions

Dash Kit could be better
Charles from Akron, OH on 11/9/2016
2003 Ford Expedition
The bezel looks good; however, the brackets to attach the head unit need to be modified on certain models because the mounting holes don't quite line up. I also think that the bezel could be made of sturdier material, as it will bend very easily. Other than that it gives a factory appearance once it's installed.
Pros: Fills gaps and give a good "finished" look.
Cons: A little flimsy and mounting holes require modification.

Great product, great fit!
Joe from Pasadena, MD on 11/5/2016
2005 Ford Expedition
The trim piece fit very nicely into my 05 expedition and has a very clean look. My head unit would not accept the rear support rail piece because it has a heat sink on the back of it "Kenwood DDX773BH".... so I put a few strips of 3M double side tape on the rail which the head unit sits on to prevent any vibration. All in all it looks and turned out just as planned.
Pros: Looks very clean an installed without any modification!
Cons: The rear support would not work with my kenwood DDV773BH

Pros: 1. Speeds up receiver installation. 2. Helps maintain a factory install look.

The kit was a little confusing at first but once I figured it out it was a snap. Had to remove all the mounting brackets from the stereo before using it.
Pros: Really provided a snug fit without rattles. Of course used a little bit of cardboard on the sides for an even tighter fit.
Cons: The rear mounting brace was too short and a screw that fit the receiver was not provided. In the end I used a longer screw with some wide plastic like washers that stuck out about 2 inches. This some how provided the stability I was looking for. Must have come in contact with the rear of the opening.

Got this with a Pioneer AVH-BT 2500 head unit to install in an '04 Mustang. Fit and worked well, but the rear bracket, which attaches to a rail for support behind the dash, was not tall enough to mount on the back of the Pioneer. So, I had to install without it and hope the head unit didn't bounce around while driving. So far, so good. Fortunately, it has not yet affected ability to play discs while driving. Still, it needs more options or flexibility for fitting a wider range of decks.

Receiver Kit Almost Perfect
hlynnbv from Arkansas on 1/15/2013
2002 Ford Mustang
It didn't take long to realize that the sleeve would make the installation much easier and neater looking. Only one glitch was that the rear bracket slot was just slightly too small for the BOSS receiver being installed, so I had to enlarge the vertical slot by about 1/8" so the bracket would engage the lower rail in the Mustang 2002 console and keep the receiver in the proper orientation vertically. Side brackets had 4 holes that lined up with the BOSS receiver screw holes, but unfortunately the proper screws were not provided by BOSS or Crutchfield, so I had to improvise with screws I found in my collection.
Pros: Sleeve made installation neat and easy, side brackets lined up with holes in receiver, instructions were clear and handy for disassembling the Mustang console.
Cons: The rear bracket needed a slight enlargement of the vertical slot to align the receiver properly with the horizontal rail in the Mustang.

Metra 95-5026 Dash Kit
PcsPC from Austin, TX on 10/29/2012
2004 Ford Expedition
It worked! Imagine that, the installation kit for my truck, fit.... my truck! /sarcasm. Installing the radio with this unit was pretty easy. However: Had to modify the rear support bracket. With my AVH-P3400BH, the slot in the bracket was a bit off. So I took a pair of small snips and extended the top of the slot so everything would line up on my Pioneer, and my truck. Seems to work fine. I'm a bit worried about the quality of the plastic though. Doesn't seem too supportive for bigger units. Also, had to go to a local hardware store(Lowes) and purchase a screw that would fit the rear bracket and screw into the back of my Pioneer. This could be at fault of Pioneer supplying the right rear support screw...
Pros: Easy to assemble and install.
Cons: Flimsy plastic..

Ford In-dash Receiver Kit
Bill from Fullerton, CA on 10/27/2012
2005 Ford Explorer
Installed in a 2005 Ford Explorer. Instructions did not say to remove radio's outer metal sleeve before attaching plastic side brackets. Front bezel & side brackets seemed flimsy. The rear support bracket did not attach because the rear threaded hole was tapped in too high a location. I had to drill & tap my own. Then upon installation the rear plastic support bracket bound up too tight on the OEM metal slide. Overall a below average rating.

In Dash Receiver Kit - 2004 Mustang
Paul from Houston, Tx on 8/21/2012
2004 Ford Mustang
Installed a Pioneer AVH-P2400 into my 2004 Mustang almost perfectly. The bracket at the back wasn't perfect but it still worked well, and I thought that a screw would've been supplied for that bracket. Having said that, I still give it 5 stars
Pros: Fits well, and looks good.
Cons: Rear bracket not quite perfect and no screw.

In-Dash Reciever Kit
Nick from Puyallup, WA on 7/16/2012
2002 Ford Mustang
The larger front bracket fit the AVH-P8400BH Pioneer deck just fine. It fit and looked just fine from the front.
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: The rear support bracket DOES NOT work with the Pioneer deck. There is nothing to put the screw in on the back of the deck. All I could do was just install the deck without the rear support. It seems to be ok.. Even if there was a place for the screw in the back the deck for the rear bracket itself would not fit with the added plug-in for the iPhone connector.

Was not compatible with purchased head unit
JT from Cincinnati, OH on 7/9/2012
2002 Ford Explorer
I have a 2002 Ford Explorer, which has a "slide rail" in the dash on which the rear of the head unit is supposed to mount. This kit includes the rear mount plate that is supposed to attach to the rear of the head unit, but the head unit I purchased does not have a screw hole located coincident with the slots on the rear mount plate. As such, I was unable to use the rear mount plate to properly mount the rear of the head unit to the vehicle. I had to rig the thing so it wasn't sitting like a cantilever, mounted at the front, but leaving the rear to flop around and bang against the slide rail when I go over a bump. I'm sure this kit would work well with most head units, so I'm not sure if I'm disappointed with the adapter kit, or with Crutchfield for saying that the kit+my purchased head unit was "compatible" with my vehicle. To be fair, I did install the unit and like it, but it was not "easy breezy" like it was made out to be on the site.
Pros: Front bezel looks clean and decent. Fits well. Mounts securely to head unit and dash.
Cons: Rear mount plate does not work with all head units, so check the pictures of the back of the head unit on the site first, and make sure there is a screw-hole fairly low toward the bottom center, to which the rear mount plate can be fastened.

SteveC from Clearwater, FL on 5/12/2012

The build quality on the bracket feels a bit "weak". The plastic side support brackets and the way they fit in to the face don't give you much confidence that it's going to hold up. But once it's in, it's pretty sturdy.
Pros: Easy to install.
Cons: Feels cheap.

2002 Mustang
Bill D from Camby, Indiana on 3/22/2012
2002 Ford Mustang
I used most of the Ford package. It is plastic but thats OK. The only problem is with the unit your trying to use the kit with. The JVC KW-500 comes with a bunch of metal brackets and plastic trim on it that have to be removed before you can apply the Ford kit. Then the rear mounted piece that fits in the track in the Mustang has nowhere to be mounted on the radio without drilling a hole in the new radio, and thats not going to happen. It fits just fine without it.
Pros: Could not install in Mustang without it. Looks like it belongs there.
Cons: It is reasonable that Crutchfield cannot go through every aspect of every radio fitting every vehicle.

This kit made mounting my Kenwood DNX-5160 in my 2004 Ford Explorer a dream. Finished product looked like a factory original. Sturdy mounting, converted receiver into an exact factory replacement mount. Only thing I could see that was a draw draback was that there is no place to mount the rear guide bracket on the Kenwood. This was not an issue as the body of the receiver rested on the guide rail. I would recommend this kit to anyone.

Pretty good
02Mustang from Lockhart, TX on 8/18/2010
2002 Ford Mustang
It fit the double din Clarion CX400 well but tabs in front are thin plastic and not very strong. I heard one crack as I tightened it. The factory bracket is very strong metal and can be tightened better. Of course the factory bracket cannot be transferred. Argh! Also had to install without the rear brace/slide. It is not tall enough for the Clarion and some screw heads on the back interfere as well. The instructions were dead on. Only the four factory electric plugs are hard to see and detach but no fault of Crutchfield. You will need a small pocket screwdriver and good light plus a bit of luck. There is plenty of sharp edged metal exposed once you are inside the dash so be careful with fingers, hands and pulling wires over the sharp edges. My suggestion as an engineer is the have the mounting tabs thickened by modifying the injection mould and add some length to the rear brace. We installers (amateurs and pro's) can take it from there.

Not perfect
Crutchfield customer from Brockton, MA on 2/24/2010
2002 Mercury Mountaineer
This kit fits pretty well in my 2002 Mountaineer. However, it is just barely too wide for the opening and so the plastic trim bends just a bit. Also, the rear support is not tall enough to work with my Avic-Z3. Otherwise, it holds the unit well enough and looks good enough that I'm not going to return it. Shipping was very slow - it took over a week for the kit to arrive, and I only live a few states away! Apparently this was due to recent snowstorms, but I would have thought a return of my shipping fee wouldn't be too much to ask.

I've purchased car kits from Crutchfield in the past and they all worked well. This kit wasn't quite up to their normal standards. I had the same problem as another reviewer with the support. I was using the kit with a 2004 Explorer and a Pioneer double din receiver. I had to drill a hole for the part to work. That wasn't a big deal but there isn't a lot of plastic to work with so my guess is the support was significantly weakened and I have my fingers crossed that it lasts.

Sturdy, Well Made
Kyle from Austin, TX on 8/21/2008
This dash kit is much better than what I have used previously. Before, everytime I took the deck out or put one in, I was worried a piece would break off just because they were made so poorly. This one does the job and seems to be an improvement over past items. The only problem I had with this one is that the support piece that is supposed to go on the back was not tall enough so I was unable to use it with my deck.
