There was not enough room to mount the trim piece around the face of the receiver, but it's a pretty tight and clean fit around the (detachable) face of the single DIN unit I installed. Fit and finish isn't up to OEM standards, if you're a perfectionist you'll probably be disappointed in the gaps. The surface finish is not an exact match with the rest of the dash either. Maybe I'm being too particular, but I work in the auto industry and I've seen yard holds for stuff like this. Physically it's a pretty solid mount, other than the cosmetic issues I don't have a problem with it.

Pros: inexpensive, complete kit has everything you need

Cons: gaps color not a 100% match

Good foundation to install a HU that wasn't supposed to be there.

This kit is a good foundation to help fit a new head unit that was never meant to be part of the factory dash. It's not perfect and for something that is designed to make a hundred different radios fit into the factory hole it's a good foundation to start with. This kit is not 100% plug and play but I didn't expect it to be. The screws that came with my Sony radio were a bit short so I had to make a trip to the hardware store and it was tricky making all the seams line up just right for that factory look. I had to remove the trim around the Sony MEX HU so that this kit would fit in front of the radio display but it looks nice this way. I also bought some black weather strip to fill the 1/16" gap between the HU and the storage pocket below it but this was easy to do and it looks great (I'm a bit OCD). In the end I got it just right with a little MacGyver Ingenuity. The plastic color is a perfect match to the factory dash and the extra storage pocket (I have single dim) is nice to store iPods or a phone in. If you feel uncomfortable knowing that you may have to fuss with the fit or buy some larger screws than either don't buy this kit or have a professional do the installation.

Pros: Good value at this price point. Glad this kit was available for the Mazda 5 because not that long ago it was not.

Cons: Some customers might be disappointed if they think that everything is going to bolt up perfect with no effort. Bad reviews are the result of peoples overly high expectations. Its an inexpensive kit for gods sake so get over it.

Was not a fit with stereo face

2012 Mazda 5

Bought this for a 2012 Mazda5 coupled with a Pioneer DEH-X4600BT stereo. The opening where the stereo goes was too small for the Pioneer stereo (I ordered the products as a bundle and was assured of a fit). After significant efforts in attempting to make the pieces fit together, I had to buy a file to whittle the plastic away so that the stereo could fit - this process added about 2 hours to the install and led to significant frustration. At one point I did get some help from Crutchfield customer service, which was a little bit helpful, but ultimately the part would not have fit if I didn't figure out a way to create a larger opening without compromising the integrity of the piece or making it look bad. Ultimately, the install turned out OK, but I am very unhappy with the fact that this piece was identified as a fit for that stereo model.
