Item has no flaws whatsoever. Depending where it plugs in you may still need an extension. I did not need any other extension for a 2014 Wrangler going so a Sony XAV-AX5500. Plug is behind HVAC controls and is plenty long enough to reach up to radio. Nothing in crutchfield instructions provided.

This piece did not allow the use of the Pionner unit USB port with the factory USB ports in the console of my 2014 Silverado 1500WT. Everything connected nicely and the console ports had power, but I was unable to get any data through the cable to the head-unit. This made using Android Auto through the factory port impossible. I ended up running the cord included with the radio through the storage compartment next to the cigarette lighter. This is where I place my phone and plug in now.

This one just makes me angry! They also included this in one of their packages to 'maintain factory functions' in which case I assumed to mean I could hook my new head unit up to my existing factory USB port in the center console. After install, everything about that port was garbage. CarPlay crashed every single time before it could even load. After talking to tech support, they informed me that the adapter they sent would not adequately transfer data from my factory port to the unit and that I needed to plug directly into the extension from the head unit. Ok... so why did I pay for this kit that helps me do what they later told me I couldn't do?! Seriously I bought from Crutchfield bc I heard their support was great and their smart harnesses/install prep was second to none. But don't even get me started on the lack of install instructions that cost me an additional 4 hours at least

Just wanted to pipe in and say that this item DOES fit a 2019 Ram Promaster! (therefore likely 2014+ Promasters). Clipped right on to the factory cable and after connecting it to my new head unit Android Auto worked perfectly. There were, however, some issues with Apple car play. It connected to my wife's Apple phone and you could use maps...etc...but for some reason there was no volume control at all...not on her phone, not on the steering wheel, and not on the head unit. Everything worked with Android Auto.

Cons: only partial functionality with Apple Car Play (no volume control)

This does not fit my 2013 Yukon Denali. Called first before I ordered my radio and they told me it would work. When I tried to install the connector is not the same. Contacted customer service and they said it will not work and there is nothing they can do about it. Can't you give me a refund for the cable so I can go buy one? Also the adapter for the dvd screens didn't work. Don't buy from here, they don't know what will work correctly. Terrible customer service, this used to be a good company.

If you are planning to buy this to connect your car's existing USB module (which does not support android auto) to get it work with android auto from stereo you are buying, forget about it. It's useless. I eventually had to drill a hole on my stereo cover, and get the direct line out of the stereo unit to make it work with Android auto. Maybe apple carplay would work, but android auto is just....so sensitive with USB jack and cable. But I prefer Android phones so....I do not recommend this.

The install was easy. This may work for iPhone and some Android phones but it doesn't work for Google's Nexus 6 Android phone with a USB-C connector to a Pioneer NEX Avic-8100 radio. I did get the phone connected to Android Auto on the radio with a special cable listed on the Pioneer website. I have not tested the USB Cable here with an Apple product yet. I did include this cable in my wiring before putting the unit back in the dash so I imagine it will work, just not with my Android phone and this radio combination.

2012 GMC Sierra
Ended up not using it. On my GMC 2013 Sierra - in order to convert the factory installed dash mounted USB it needed a male miniB end not the female on this one. I decided to convert the factory installed one instead of having a cable hanging under the dash. Crutchfield needs to update their program that determines compatibility. Went to local store and found correct cable. No big deal it was not worth it to me to bother sending it back, will use for something else. Love the radio and being able to use the steering wheel controls on the radio.

Cons: Ended up not using it. GMC 2013 Sierra in order to convert the factory installed dash mounted USB it needed a male mini end not the female on this one.

Works great. Unfortunately, unnecessary in the "package" I ordered since one comes with the iData package. As with the video harness that came in the kit, this was money wasted because of a lack of understanding exactly what was needed for my installation. More explanation on these type products would allow informative ordering when selecting what is needed for specific installation. i.e. This harness is for installation of rear video or Not necessary if you purchase _____ product. I would also think that when making up a kit Crutchfield employees would recognize the redundancy of adding a cable when one already comes with the product.

Hooked it into my factory USB port. My iPhone only worked 1 out of every 10 times I plugged it in. I took out this adapter and used a different cable. Worked fine. Seems like a very easy cable to produce. Threw it in the garbage.

I purchased this because I wanted to keep the installation of my new Kenwood 9902s clean -- and to use the factory USB port. My android auto didn't work. Kenwood (after 5+ phone calls) said this cable by Metra was the problem. Turns out Kenwood was right. Kenwood has reported numerous issues with this cable, so DON'T USE IT! It worked fine for me with USB flash drives, etc, but my android auto has worked for the first time today!

Incorrect and very misleading product description

I set the rating at 5 stars because I don't want to affect the product rating. Your description says this: "One end of the cable connects to the plug just behind your vehicle's USB port". Well what the heck does that mean? So, I called into your tech support and the guy said, yes, I will have to dismantle my console to get to the back of the usb plug in my center console in order to "connect behind my vehicle's USB port". I contacted the manufacturer who said that the small mini-B part of the cable connects to the mini-B in the dash that normally connects to the OEM head unit, then the usb side of the cable connects to the new Head Unit. This might have been very obvious to me if I had already removed my oem head unit. But I have not done that yet and am in the planning stages. This bad product description has cost me and a lot of other people a huge waste of time and energy. It also shows that some folks in your tech support group don't know how this product hooks up either and they simply went by the product description as well. I spoke multiple people at Crutchfield and none could tell me reasonably how this thing cable gets connected up. Please fix the product description. Thanks.

I have this connected to my Kenwood touch screen deck with my iPod touch newest gen connected. When I turn my truck on it makes the normal sound an iPod makes when you plug it in... But it does it like 6 times.
