Apple CarPlay brings your apps to your dash

Apple CarPlay compatibility allows a Lightning™-to-USB connection to provide access to select apps on newer iPhones. Once connected, the receiver shows large icons for functions such as Maps, Phone, Messages, Music, Now Playing, and Podcasts. Several streaming apps — including Pandora® — work within the CarPlay interface as well. Drivers can access these functions by touch or through Siri® voice control. Learn more at www.apple.com/ios/carplay.

Take command through the finger-friendly 6.2" display

You'll see everything you need at a glance on Pioneer's info-rich NEX interface, and the intuitive layout makes choosing musical sources a breeze. When you're properly connected, your smartphone's travel-friendly apps will find a good home on the display. It even offers a "Power Off" mode in the source menu for those times when you want a completely dark screen. iPhone users also get Pioneer's AppRadio mode for in-dash command of several important apps.

Dependable guidance wherever the road takes you

A lost driver is an unhappy driver, so count on the AVIC-5201NEX's GPS technology to guide you practically anywhere in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. You can search for stopping points along your route among the 8 million included points of interest, or mark your own favorite spots for future reference. For a better look at the map, you can choose the level of map zoom manually. Spoken street names at turns and lane guidance keep you on track, while speed limit warnings help you stay safe.

Bluetooth® for hands-free streaming and communication

Wireless Bluetooth connectivity keeps you in contact with others from the road with hands-free calling. The included external microphone gives your conversations plenty of clarity when you're talking through your compatible phone. And the receiver will work with most phones for wireless streaming audio, thanks to its advanced Hands-Free Profile technology. You'll also get smartphone app control through your devices.

Siri® Eyes Free

In addition, you can use your smartphone voice commands via Siri Eyes Free when the receiver's paired with your phone. You can perform any number of tasks such as making phone calls, hearing and composing texts, getting directions, choosing songs and playlists, and adding reminders with your voice.

Please your ears

High-res audio

This Pioneer's also compatible with high-resolution lossless FLAC files, so you can play your music from your thumb drive with maximum fidelity. The built-in 13-band graphic equalizer, Auto EQ, and Time Alignment let you shape the sonic output to suit your tastes. Use the high- and low-pass crossover's adjustable points and slopes for further adjustments, and engage the Advanced Sound Retriever to fill in the missing "gaps" in your compressed music files to restore clarity.

Video to go

You can check out video from DVDs or other sources on the 6.2" display when you're parked. You can also tap into video content on your iPod or smartphone with the help of the correct cable (not included). When you're on the road, you can play movies through a rear-seat monitor for your passengers, so they can stay entertained. Dual-zone capability lets you enjoy the radio or another audio source up front while your passengers watch their favorite movies with headphones in the back. And the receiver offers a dedicated rear-view camera input, plus an additional video input for adding a second camera.

Ready for SiriusXM satellite radio

The AVIC-5201NEX features a connection for an optional satellite radio tuner, so you can enjoy SiriusXM's extensive programming with your subscription. You can listen to your chosen channels no matter where you roam, and take advantage of special features such as alerts when your favorite songs or sports teams are on the air.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

iDatalink Maestro lets you keep your factory extras

The AVIC-5201NEX offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included). The module lets you keep factory features in your Chrysler, Ford, GM, Toyota, Fiat, or VW vehicle that you'd otherwise lose when you install a new radio. You'll also be able to check out expanded functionality on the Pioneer's screen, including gauges, climate controls, a distance sensor, and tire pressure and temperature monitors.

If you currently use AppRadio Mode, Pioneer has found that it won't work with iOS 11. They're working on an update, so you may want to keep iOS 10 until that fix is available.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

If I could give no stars, I would. Unfortunately, the unit was out of stock so I took a chance on an outlet version since they had no idea when the unit would come in. I can't get the unit to work and tech support sent just sent me to Pioneer (which is only open weekdays). What Crutchfield didn'tell me before I bought the unti was that I have to know the password that was set for the unit by whoever set it up before it was returned. They did not inlcude this information in the box. I guess this is more about my dissappointment with the support from Crutchfield. If I expected this, I could save money buying elsewhere, which I will do in the future.

    5+ stars!!!

Crutchfield customer from Beaverton, OR on 6/15/2019

    2007 GMC Yukon

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Love this radio. Installed it on my 2007 Yukon and it gives my suv a more luxurious feel. I had an OEM CD player with AUX, backup sensors and XM radio. I got used to having a backup camera in my other vehicle and missed having it on this full sized SUV. I decided to get this radio due to the ability to add GPS and backup camera. I gained more than I expected. I can now view car data such as TPMS, gauge cluster and several other items that I had to scroll through the bland car menu to find... all at the touch of a button. I was able to retain my XM radio and full functionality of my steering wheel controls as well as the OEM rear DVD player. Apple CarPlay is a nice addition. I can have my radio read off text messages and I can send them as well all using voice commands. I am a long time fan of Pioneer car stereos and I have to say that this one is the best I ever had. Even with running the factory Bose speakers, I get a better sound compared to my factory stereo head unit. I give this radio and Crutchfield's customer service 5 stars. I was quoted $1600 for a lesser radio with install at the local car stereo shop. I basically saved myself $1000 by doing it myself and have that pride of saying I did it!!! I did have a few questions about the install but Crutchfield was there and very helpful when I needed them.

Pros: Great sound and easy to navigate. Added more features than I was really looking for.

Cons: I would prefer a knob for the volume but it's not a deal breaker. I mostly use the steering wheel controls anyway.

I really like this unit. The display is very nice in all its functions. The navigation page shows a tremendous amount of information, the back up camera display is great and has a selectable feature to help you when parking. The radio display and the one for the phone are equally as nice. I have not figured out how to stream from my iPhone yet but the telephone function works great. We live in an area where the AM reception is usually poor, but this unit works well even connected to the stock antenna. Highly recommended.

Pros: I like the displays a lot. Great nav functions, even shows address numbers as you pass by them. Very good AM radio reception

Cons: The only on/off switch I've found is in settings. Wish there was a quicker way to mute or turn off.

What a great upgrade over my factory system. Nav is awesome. Had some issues with receiving calls which was a conflict with my iphone 8, sync, and bluetooth on the stereo.

Pros: Before starting read all of the instructions and called tech support with my questions. Tech support helped with which were relevant.Highly recommend purchasing the crutchfield wire harness

Cons: Received instructions which were a little confusing, mastersheet, manuals for both the maestro and pioneer

Stereo is great. Only reason 4 stars instead of 5 is the volume adjustment is just a small up and down button. Not so easy to use. Otherwise this is a great unit. I put it in myself, saving $500 off what the local rip-off audio store wanted. Took me 4 hours and had to use a Dremel tool to shave some of the original opening, but 4 hours for $500 is a good deal. I have lots of tools and am mechanically inclined and this was a chore.

Pros: Great overall unit, great sound, great navigation.

Cons: Small volume control, get the steering wheel kit

I installed the Pioneer in my 2014 Jeep Wrangler. I highly recommend the wire harness completion that Crutchfield offers...really simplifies things. Had a couple questions as worked on it and Crutchfield was a quick phone call away each time with the right answer. The Pioneer is an elegant and simple piece of tech incorporating UConnect and monitoring all the Jeeps's Systems....very cool.

Great sound but poor radio reception

Eddie from Asheville, NC on 5/15/2019

    2007 Ford Explorer

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Installed this unit in my 2007 Explorer. With the dash kit it looks really nice and slick. I'm still learning the many features on it but here are my opinions on what I've found starting with the negatives. It doesn't have a mute or even an on/off button which I find very annoying. The over the air radio reception is garbage. In a big city I suppose it would be adequate but I don't live in a big city. I was always impressed with the range of stations that my old factory radio could pull in so I was extremely disappointed in the Pioneer receiver. The FM station reception is sketchy and you can pretty much forget about AM. The local station that I used to hear clearly 50 miles away is barely audible in town. My FM/AM station list is very short now. On the good side the sound from other audio sources is outstanding, even through my factory speakers - a powerful punch. I did notice that when testing a CD that it was very hot to the touch when I removed it after one song. My guess is the cooling fan vent was blocked by the mass of additional wiring along with the original wiring that I had to cram in behind it. I removed the unit and rearranged and adjusted everything behind it as best I could. Hopefully that will help. The nav system works great. The screen options and colors are good. The hands free Bluetooth works great and sounds good on both ends. I mounted the mic above the steering column. The customer service at Crutchfield is outstanding. Very courteous and helpful.

Pros: Nice unit with lots of features.

Cons: Very poor over the air radio reception.

Replaced 2007 Corvette Bose Head unit

Crutchfield customer from Manassas, VA on 5/9/2019

    2007 Chevrolet Corvette

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I bought this radio to replace the original head unit in my 2007 Corvette Bose system. I wanted Bluetooth, better GPS and the ability to connect other AV systems, while maintaining my steering wheel controls and SiriusXM radio. This radio does all that and so much more! It has a great GPS, sound is incredible through my Bose OEM amps, and I could not be happier. Installing it is no joke though. When you install a back up camera, XM radio and GPS you will be running a lot of wires through a lot of panels. Getting the Crutchfield wiring harness is a MUST! It makes most of this quite simple. The total system is expandable and has a really nice touch screen. Thanks to the tech folks for advice on what to do with magnetic mount antennas on a fiberglass car - not a problem.

Pros: Features, Expandability, sound, expert wiring harness, learning curve not bad

Cons: Documentation is a bit sketchy but adequate. Putting all this stuff into the space was challenging but doable.

Stereo looks good, sounds good, and is easy to use. The GPS is easy to learn and the directions are clear. But it is wrong 50% of the time. I'm currently looking to buy a house. Everyday I search for ten houses to look at. This GPS usually gets me to the right street but will be up to to blocks off on where the house is located on that street. Several times this GPS has also just gone the wrong way.

Pros: Stereo sounds good and is easy to use all the functions.

Cons: GPS is not the best.

This is a very nice radio with deeply superb sound. The features and capabilities of this radio makes you want to spend more money to interject additional capabilities out of the box. Installation instructions for vehicle interface module and steering wheel control module were quite helpful. I did spend several hours installing myself for the included instructions were for replacing a DTS with standard radio, where mine was the Cadillac NAV Supreme DVD player w/external 6-CD changer.. Very, Very happy with Sound, Picture, Features (love the Bluetooth to my iPod), and integration into the vehicle's systems, chimes and warnings. Ready to hit the road again...

All the features on the unit work great. I especially like the navigation and car play. The electrical hook up was easy but the physical install was challenging. It was listed as mod required and a pic to show what to cut but I also had th cut out an additional brace behind the radio and significant trimming around the opening. Could not have done this without a dremel with abrasive cut off wheel and helical router.

Fan of pioneer for years, and this model doesn't disappoint, new bluetooth and android compatibility makes it a dream to operate, running road directions at the bottom of the screen while you listen to your favorite music or audiobooks is nice. With crutchfield install kit very easy to put together. Only wish would be for an integrated mic for taking phone calls. Comes with remote mic and about 10ft of cord.

Pros: Bluetooth capable and android compatible. Easier functuoning gos for inputting directions, saving locations, and ease of navigating in inner city locations.

Cons: Wired mic for taking calls. Be nicer if there was one integrated into the faceplate of the system itself so as to not have more wires than necessary running around behind the dash.

Excellent piece of equipment. Installation is rather straight forward. Finding the wires in the factory harness that need connected to (parking brake, reverse, speed sensor) can be a pain but a vehicle wiring schematic will help you. The unit itself is user friendly and attractive once installed. I can't wait to add some rear seat monitors to keep the kids entertained on long road trips! GPS works great and having the xm/Sirius installed is makes it that much better. Apple car play is great and works better on this unit than the factory unit in my wife's new Impala! I must say, I am beyond impressed with it, and would recommend it to anyone who is in the market for a navigation unit!

Pros: Sounds great! Navigation works very well. Bluetooth is clear and connects quickly.

Cons: Installation takes longer than basic stereos due to hardwiring into three wires in the factory harness for speed, parking brake, and reverse.

Excellent system and easy to install and at a decent price.

Pros: Love how it matches my Lincoln's interior lighting and the Navigation part is excellent! Recommend this system to anyone.

Cons: Tech support told me that for the 2004 Lincoln Town car the ONLY place you can run the speed sense wire was to the PCM module pin 68 - it is a bear to get to! I found the wire in the passenger side kick-plate - white connector (c-215) lowest of 4 connectors. Also - the illumination for the clock will be lost as the harness supplied uses wire 3 for illumination but car uses wire 4 .

THE GOOD - EVERYTHING. So many features. Too many features. Had to watch many, many, Pioneer videos on YouTube to get through it all. ( Easier than reading Operation manual ) Lots of DETAILED FUNCTIONALITY; keypad color, individual sound volume control for every input, volume control for each seating area in the vehicle regardless if speaker was upgraded or not. This is a middle-tiered Pioneer model and massive amount of detailed features. Takes too much time to enumerate all. I did not upgrade the speakers, and the sound is so clear, rich and deep, as if directly in your ear. Excellent buy if you can.

Pros: GOOD - EVERYTHING. So many features. Too many features. Had to watch many, many, Pioneer videos on YouTube to get through all. ( Easier than reading Operation manual ) Lots of DETAILED FUNCTIONALITY; keypad color, individual sound volume control for every input, volume control for each seat in the vehicle, regardless if speaker was upgraded or not. This is a middle-tiered Pioneer model and massive amount of detailed features. Still using factory speakers and sound is MUCH better.

Cons: NOT SO GOOD ( Not really a "bad" ) These are personal observations, not really deal-breaker. Still worth the purchase. 1) There are no front-facing USB/SD Card slots. Do not understand the logic behind that, perhaps anti-theft ? 2) There is no built in front-facing microphone. Apple fits a smaller microphone in an iPhone smaller than a car NAV unit, why not integrated in front face ? 3) The power turns on and off every time you turn on/off the car via the ignition (remote starter). It would be nice, as a factory radio, you get to choose when to turn on the Pioneer unit. Perhaps the function is there, but I have yet to find in the manual or in YouTube video; again, these are not significant "do not buy" issues, but they nudge at me a little.

I have had this unit in 2 vehicles so far. It is going into another as soon as I get home from Work on Tuesday. While not perfect, it is still EXCELLENT! Occasionally it will not automatically sync to the Bluetooth on my iphone, but if I shut the radio off and turn it back on it syncs right up. The navigation, once you get accustomed to the input sequence, is easy, fast and accurate. If I have one complaint about the GPS it is that the alert to when and in which lane you are going to be changing to next not always soon enough. I have missed a turn off in Dallas while pulling a fifth wheel camper once because of this fault. Overall I am extremely happy with it though so I still gave it a 5 star rating.

Pros: Easy to use, accurate and looks great

Cons: lane warning for turns not always early enough

This radio is simply amazing. I've been through quite a few stereos these last few months trying to find one that was similar/better to my stock Shaker 500, and nothing has come close. The features are wonderful, Bluetooth is flawless and the amount of input capabilities is great. The app change speed is faster than most I've seen in any head unit. I love the aesthetics of this unit, colors are great, app location is a nice smooth look. Sound quality is a 9 out of 10 in my book. Just a few things I've found to be problematic with this unit. Apple Carplay sometimes decides it's not going to load. My phone will charge, but the head unit does not go into Carplay mode. I have to physically shut down the vehicle and restart the car, then Apply Carplay immediately comes on. I've only seen this happen twice out of maybe 100 times I've driven the car since the install. Spotify likes to not show what song is being played. It will show the libraries and the song list, but when you go to "Now playing" there is no information about the song. Apple claims this is a Spotify issue and Spotify blames Apple. I have since switched to Apple Music, as that function works flawlessly. One other issue is the loading screen sometimes takes a while to come on. I just get this circular arrow for a minute and then the head unit decides to come on. To me, these are very very minor issues, nothing that would ever deter me from purchasing a head unit, but annoying none the less

Pros: Great Sound. Aesthetics are beautiful. Install was a breeze. Very fast applications. Easy to use and read while driving. Carplay is amazing. Crutchfield customer service is the best I've ever seen of any company before this.

Cons: Carplay likes to not load sometimes. Reboot necessary Loading sometimes takes a while Below 25 degrees F, unit screen doesn't respond to fingers Spotify doesn't show which song is being played

I have had this unit for 14 months and it has been good up to 11 months. I enjoyed all the features and quality. But it started acting up. I didn't have time to bring it in to the shop where I purchased it til the 14 month. The unit dvd player started messing up at 11 months, then at 13 month the system started glitching. It would turn off reload and turn back on. This happened at random times. Now it glitches even more and the driver side speakers quit working. It has been very disappointing. Called Pioneer up and they say that they can only extend the warranty one month and I can send the unit in, they will let me know how much it will cost to repair. Wow! Disappointed!

    Pros: Great while it worked

Radio doesn't work after install in my Mercedes-Benz. Other than that it's a great unit. The map database is stored on the head unit's built in 8GB flash memory.

Note: While the receiver's map database was judged to be as accurate as possible at the time of its release, a map database can never be 100% accurate. Road information that is maintained in the map databases, such as turn restrictions or road names may change over time.

Map Updates: Customers are eligible to update to the latest available map database free of charge during the first 45 days of operation (from the unit's first receipt of an active GPS signal) - after this 45 days there will be a charge to download map updates. To update the map database, visit the Naviextras website to download the Naviextras Toolbox on your computer (requires Windows XP or newer; not compatible with Mac) and USB thumbdrive.

GPS Technology: The AVIC-5201NEX accurately measures your current location by the Global Positioning System, a network of satellites orbiting the earth to give you time and position information. The accuracy of the GPS information depends upon how good the reception is. The unit features a built-in GPS receiver and comes with a GPS antenna. The AVIC-5201NEX also utilizes a speed sensing cable for better accuracy of your vehicle's movement; this wire should always be connected to your vehicle's speed detection circuit.

Note: The navigation receiver took approximately 14.1 seconds to calculate directions from Virginia to California. It only took 12.3 seconds to calculate directions from Virginia to Maryland. These tests were done inside the Crutchfield Lab of the Crutchfield Headquarters. Results will vary based on length of calculated route and your surrounding area.

On-Screen Map: The Pioneer AVIC-5201NEX displays a real-time moving map illustrating your current position and intended route. As you travel the AVIC-5201NEX guides to your destination with arrows on the map and directions at the top of the screen. The map screen will also indicate the distance to your next maneuver. During your calculated route, distance to your final destination, timed need to reach the final destination, and estimated arrival time are all displayed on-screen. You can adjust the following map settings.

    • 2D/3D Map Mode: The Pioneer AVIC-5201NEX allows you to view its on-screen map in a 2D (two-dimensional) or 3D (three-dimensional) view. 2D View displays a normal two-dimensional map with North or your direction at the top of map screen. In 3D mode, your direction is at the top of the map screen and you can see the altitude and elevations differences. You can distinguish between valleys, mountains, and elevated roads.
    • Color Mode: You can switch between daytime and nighttime color modes or let the head unit's software switch between the two modes automatically a few minutes before sunrise and a few minutes after sunset.
Note: The on-screen map offers Smart Zoom. When you approach a turn, the map will zoom in and raise the view angle to let you easily recognize your maneuver at the next junction. You can adjust the voice guidance volume independently from the head unit's main volume.

      • Shortest: gives a route that has the smallest total distance of all possible routes. It can be practical for slow vehicles
      • Economical: combines the benefits of Fast and Short; calculates as if it were calculating the Fast route, but it takes other roads as well to save fuel
      • Easy: results in a route with fewer turns and no difficult maneuvers
    • Avoidances: You can tell the navigation unit to avoid certain types of roads along your calculated route, such as - Highways, Tolls, Carpool/HOV, Unpaved Roads, and/or Ferries.

    Audio Section

24-Bit/192kHz DAC: The Pioneer AVIC-5201NEX is equipped with a 24-bit/192kHz digital-to-analog converter for superb quality audio playback from disc, USB, iPod/iPhone, and Bluetooth.

MOSFET50 Internal Amplifier: This receiver is equipped with a 50 watts x 4 (peak) MOSFET amplifier for low distortion, high power output. For higher volume levels from subwoofers, an optional amplifier may be connected to the preamp outputs.

    • CTA-2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)
Note: The power specifications for the AVIC-5201NEX are compliant with the CTA-2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

4V/6CH Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The Pioneer AVIC-5201NEX features three pair of 4.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The Pioneer AVIC-5201NEX lets you adjust the subwoofer preamp output's phase (normal/reverse) and volume (+6 to -24).

Crossovers: The AVIC-5201NEX employs high pass and low pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speakers.

    • HPF: The head unit's variable 6/12/18db per octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, or 200Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
    • LPF: The subwoofer preamp output features a 6, 12, or 18dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, or 200Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.

EEQ (Easy EQ) w/ 13-Band Graphic EQ: There are seven stored equalizer curves which you can easily recall at any time. You can choose from - Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2. The Custom 1 and Custom 2 EQ modes allow you to manually adjust the level (+/- 12dB) of each band of the head unit's 13-band graphic equalizer (50, 80, 125, 200, 315, 500, 800, 1.25k, 2k, 3.15k, 5k, 8k, and 12.5k Hz).

Auto EQ (Optional): The auto-equalizer automatically measures your car's interior acoustic characteristics, and then creates an auto-equalizer curve base on that information. The Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ microphone (130CDMC20, sold separately) is required to use this function. The Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ microphone plugs into your compatible Pioneer A/V receiver's rear-panel AUX 3.5mm input. The Auto-EQ microphone should be placed in the center of your vehicle's driver seat headrest facing forward for EQ measurement.

    • Listening Position & Time Alignment: For a better sound-stage you can select your optimal listening position. You can choose from All, Front Left, Front Right, or Front. You can also select to manually fine tune the sound stage, using Digital Time Alignment (DTA) by selecting the distance (0-200") for each individual speaker in the vehicle compared to your listening position.
    • Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. When the Advanced Sound Retriever is on, the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve to the original sound. There are two available levels of the Advanced Sound Retriever effect.
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source (AM, Pandora, iPod, Apps) to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the unit's FM volume level, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4 dB to +4 dB.

MIXTRAX: MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a nonstop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and our passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to those in the car. MIXTRAX takes the music from a USB-connected iPod/iPhone or USB MSC device and plays it back with added transitions and effects, creating a virtual DJ inside the Pioneer receiver.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in AppRadio or AppRadioLive mode, with the Pandora App, for CarPlay, and with Bluetooth sources.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation; this can be turned On or Off.

You can simultaneously enjoy the same or different sources in the front and rear of your vehicle. The unit's A/V output can be set to Mirror, Disc, AV-IN, USB/iPod, or Off. If its installed right it should come on as soon as you shift the car into reverse
    [ Brandon  Apr 21, 2019 ]
    A
Should only take a second. Make sure you ran your RCA to the brown plug on the back of the deck. That is your back up input.

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Does the pioneer avic-5201nex work with android ph one?
    [ Miguel  Feb 19, 2019 ]

    A
Yes I have an Android LG V20 and it pairs with the Pioneer just fine. The media play and mapping app is OK but not as good as Apples CarPlay in my opinion
    [ Lamont Jeffrey  Feb 20, 2019 ]
    A
Yes it does, you need to select either iPhone or Android in the settings. You can also link the setting in your favorites so you can switch between the two quicker. This helps if you are in a multi-OS family.
    [ Dan  Feb 19, 2019 ]

It does. My wife and I both have Android phones. Works well either directly plugged in to the usb port or via bluetooth. We use the google drive app for navigation and some other features but it's not necessary.

    Q
How is the nav function on this unit. Such as timing as to a merge or turn coming up compared to a kenwood with garmin nav?
    [ Eric  Feb 10, 2019 ]

    A
The notice for turns is ample and very similar to Google Maps. Starting at a half mile, a few hundred feet from the turn and the last command to execute the turn. I think it is comparable to Garmin; I do not know about Kenwood. Truthfully, I just had it installed today and drove from a larger city to the country without issues.
    [ Steven  Feb 16, 2019 ]

I have tried the Kenwood but have used multiple Nav solutions over the course of many years and find the Pioneer to be comparable to the better ones
    [ Theodore  Feb 11, 2019 ]

For me it works as advertised. My wife has a newer Nissan and it is as good. I can't compare it to garmin because I haven't used the brand.

I'm not familliar with the kenwood with the garmin nav but this does seem to be very fast, usually it gives you lane directions a half mile before the change with a little meter on the side that fills as you get closer to it, it also has speed limit and street name postings on the bottom of the screen while you are using other media modes

Excellent question....i transferred my 35000 file music collection from an IPOD classic (which was on its way out) to USB flash drives. First, buy a USB flash drive with plenty of room (more than your file volume), Second, your USB flash drive needs to be reformatted to FAT32 (just google it if you never did it), The unit will not read a USB drive with more than 15,000 files on it.

I don't believe so. That would require a dual output system for 2 separate input feeds. You might be able to split the DVD output to a separate amp, but it would take a stereo shop with some skills. Good Luck with your install! It's a great unit and I've very happy with my choice. :)

Yes it does but may or may not be comparable with your OEM camera. I recommend calling customer service. Your specific vehicle may need an adapter to utalize the stock backup camera. You can always use an aftermarket camera with this model. Customer service was more than helpful and did not oversell. They helped me pick out the exact wiring harnesses I needed for full functionality

The Metra harness is separate due to all the different vehicle manufactures. It comes with great instructions and is quite easy to install. Just like a factory radio! Enjoy!

Depends on what you plan on doing inside the vehicle (i.e subwoofer, speakers, only speakers etc). I used the Rockford Fostgate P300 to power a hidden sub behind my rear bench of my truck. Love it!

The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have.
